Pregnant After Being Marked By A Top-Tier Alpha - Chapter 5
Since the beginning of her pregnancy, Bai Jinge’s appetite had been quite poor; she could hardly eat anything. Fortunately, every prenatal check-up confirmed that the baby was very healthy, with all indicators meeting the expected values for her stage of pregnancy.
Bai Jinge was very thin, standing at 170 cm tall and weighing around 48 kilograms. Therefore, even though she was four months pregnant, she did not look visibly pregnant. Only her waistline had thickened slightly; she had not gained weight anywhere else.
It was becoming clear that her modeling career could no longer continue, so Bai Jinge needed to find a new path for herself. But what company would hire a woman with a big belly? Especially a pregnant woman who would be giving birth just a few months after being hired—they weren’t a charity. During the few months she had been modeling, apart from not cutting back on “food,” Bai Jinge had been very frugal in all other aspects, hoping to save as much money as possible.
Zhu Linshuang had been observing this and had been looking for an opportunity to explain her plan to Bai Jinge. Now, the timing seemed perfect.
While they were eating dinner together that evening, Zhu Linshuang took the initiative to suggest the idea of going abroad.
Bai Jinge’s hand holding the chopsticks paused, and she looked at Zhu Linshuang with some confusion: “Go abroad?”
Zhu Linshuang also put down her chopsticks: “Yes, to France.”
“I asked a friend to look at an apartment for me in Paris, and the price and other details have already been settled. As soon as I sell my house here in the country, we will set off for Paris. Jinge, come with me to France! Don’t worry about finding another job; just focus on staying at home to nurture the pregnancy and wait until after you give birth.”
Bai Jinge: “…”
Zhu Linshuang: “I am not doing this entirely for your sake; I am also thinking about my own career. As you know, I have wanted to develop my career abroad for a long time.”
“Jinge, don’t try to be too tough,” Zhu Linshuang said as she used serving chopsticks to place a slice of boiled beef into Bai Jinge’s bowl.
“For the sake of the baby in your belly, what is wrong with accepting my help for the time being? Isn’t that what family is for? I help you when you are in the most need, and when I have something I need help with in the future, I will come to you.”
Bai Jinge pressed her lips together and finally nodded.
After making up her mind, Bai Jinge submitted her resignation the next day. A week later, she left the modeling agency where she worked.
Time flew by to the end of December; it was only ten days until New Year’s Day. Zhu Linshuang’s intention was to stay in the country for a while longer and wait until after the New Year to head to France, as they wouldn’t be able to spend the Lunar New Year in the country this year.
By this time, Bai Jinge was exactly five months pregnant, and her belly had finally begun to show. However, because of the thick winter clothing, it was not very obvious.
On New Year’s Day, City C experienced its first snow since the beginning of winter. The snow began at seven in the morning and continued all day long.
Toward the evening, the snow finally stopped. The charming and prosperous City C was draped in silver, with everything white as far as the eye could see.
Their flight was early the next morning, so this dinner was meant to be a farewell meal for themselves. After asking for Bai Jinge’s opinion, Zhu Linshuang had booked a private room at an authentic Chongqing hot pot restaurant.
During the first four months of her pregnancy, Bai Jinge’s appetite had not been good. It was only within the last month that her appetite began to improve, and she had become particularly fond of spicy food, especially hot pot.
In the afternoon, Zhu Linshuang accompanied Bai Jinge to the cemetery.
The cold cemetery was covered in snow, with nothing but vast whiteness everywhere, occasionally swept by piercingly cold, bleak winds.
Wrapped in a bulky long down jacket, Bai Jinge stood before the tombstone. She wore a pale pink woolen hat, and the scarf around her neck matched the hat. Fully bundled up, she didn’t feel cold.
Zhu Linshuang left the cemetery first because Bai Jinge had said she wanted to speak with her father alone, so Zhu Linshuang had tactfully walked away. At this moment, she was waiting for Bai Jinge at the cemetery entrance.
After talking with her father for a long time, Bai Jinge told him that she was pregnant and had decided to give birth to the child.
“Dad, it is my own insistence to have this child. Since I have made this choice, I will not regret it. I will raise her well on my own, and I will give her so much love to make up for the absence of a complete family.”
Just as she finished speaking, a set of footsteps suddenly echoed from behind and to the side, coming slowly over the crushed snow. Judging by the sound, there were two people.
Following the sound, Bai Jinge looked over subconsciously. At that sight, her peach-blossom eyes, shimmering with crystal-clear tears, widened abruptly, and she froze on the spot.
Bai Jinge: “…!”
Reflected in her pitch-black and white pupils was the cold, beautiful, and stunning face of a woman, with a pair of emotionless, elegant phoenix eyes staring right back at her.
The woman had a small black mole under the lower eyelid of her left eye, like the finishing touch in a painting, making her appearance even more alluring and enchanting.
Bai Jinge never expected to run into her here.
Seeing this woman immediately reminded Bai Jinge of the few days they spent at the manor. The memories of their days and nights of intimacy played out like a film in her mind.
Not far away, Ye Yunwan stood in the cold wind, dressed in a black wool coat, with Secretary Zhao standing beside her, holding a black umbrella and also dressed all in black.
After staring at each other for only two or three seconds, Bai Jinge quickly withdrew her gaze and subconsciously looked at her belly. The down jacket was bulky and hid her slightly protruding abdomen perfectly.
Bai Jinge tried her best to hold back her tears, but the corners of her eyes remained red, flushed with a thin, pale color. Her long eyelashes were damp; anyone could see that she had been crying.
Even after the other person turned her face away, Ye Yunwan kept her eyes fixed on Bai Jinge. It had been half a year since they last met; it seemed like nothing about her had changed, yet it also felt like there had been some changes.
Bai Jinge intended to leave immediately, but her feet felt as if they were filled with lead, and she remained rooted to the spot. Her mind was in chaos, and she worried that what she had just said might have been overheard by Ye Yunwan.
Just as Bai Jinge was lost in her thoughts, a black umbrella was suddenly held over her head, blocking the snowflakes falling from the sky.
The snow, which had stopped, had begun to fall again. The flakes were very small, so Bai Jinge, distracted by her thoughts, had not noticed.
Ye Yunwan stood beside Bai Jinge and was the first to speak: “Miss Bai, are you here alone?”
Bai Jinge shook her head and replied in a tone that was extremely distant: “No, my cousin is waiting for me at the entrance of the cemetery.”
Ye Yunwan paused and offered the handle of the umbrella toward her: “You take the umbrella.”
Bai Jinge lowered her lashes to look at the umbrella handle, then looked up at Ye Yunwan: “Thank you for the kindness, President Ye, but it is not necessary.”
Having said that, Bai Jinge pretended to be calm and turned around, brushing past Ye Yunwan’s slender, snowy-dusted shoulder. Her snow boots crunched on the snowy path as she walked further and further away.
Ye Yunwan turned silently, her expression calm as she watched Bai Jinge’s receding figure until it completely disappeared from her sight.
On the other side, after walking only a few steps, Bai Jinge suddenly felt a palpitation in her heart. She gritted her teeth, endured the discomfort, and quickened her pace toward the cemetery entrance.
Therefore, when Zhu Linshuang saw Bai Jinge walking toward her in a rush, she was startled for a moment before quickly stepping forward to support Bai Jinge by the arm.
Seeing the other woman’s face turn pale, Zhu Linshuang couldn’t help but ask anxiously and repeatedly: “What’s wrong? Why is your complexion so poor?”
Bai Jinge bit her lower lip and said softly: “I… I’m not feeling well.”
Zhu Linshuang panicked: “What should we do? Do we need to go to the hospital?!”
Bai Jinge shook her head, holding her waist with one hand and frowning in pain: “No need… Just help me back to the car to rest for a while; I have a sedative in my bag.”
Zhu Linshuang nodded repeatedly, understanding the importance of a sedative for a single pregnant woman. Step by step, she trod on the snow, supporting Bai Jinge as they walked steadily down the path.
