Pregnant After Being Marked By A Top-Tier Alpha - Chapter 4
At the ultrasound room, Bai Jinge lay flat on the medical bed according to the doctor’s instructions, revealing her flat abdomen. Like a soul-less puppet, she allowed the female doctor to apply the wet, cool gel onto her belly.
The female doctor wore a face mask, staring intently at the shadows on the screen, her B-mode ultrasound probe moving around on Bai Jinge’s stomach from time to time, while calling out several data points to another doctor standing nearby.
After the examination was finished, the female doctor pulled down her mask and looked at Bai Jinge with kind eyes: “Congratulations, Mom-to-be! The fetus is developing very well, is basically consistent with the gestational age, and the fetal heartbeat sounds very strong and healthy.”
Bai Jinge subconsciously frowned: “Fetal heartbeat?”
“Yes, the sound you just heard was the little baby’s heartbeat.” The female doctor smiled kindly and moved the ultrasound probe in her hand as she spoke, “Look, let me let you hear it again.”
Bai Jinge: “…”
The examination room fell quiet again. From the cold Doppler instrument, a series of strong and powerful hoof-beat sounds emerged at a very fast frequency.
Da-da—da-da—da-da—
Bai Jinge, who had been lying flat on the bed, was suddenly captivated. She slowly turned her head and cast her gaze upon the screen of the instrument.
She saw a tiny lump curled up in the abdominal imaging; the fetus’s head appeared vaguely large, while the rest was difficult to distinguish.
For no reason, Bai Jinge suddenly felt her eyes moisten, tears welling up, and her heart rate suddenly accelerated as well. The two hearts within her body beat regularly, intertwined with one another.
After leaving the ultrasound room, Bai Jinge clutched the examination sheet and went straight into the restroom. She covered her face in a stall and sobbed softly.
She had clearly made up her mind to remove this child who was not supposed to exist, but the moment she heard the fetal heartbeat, her heart softened all at once, and even her determination to undergo the surgery wavered.
Dazed and confused, she returned home. It was only then that Bai Jinge remembered she had forgotten to show the examination sheet to the doctor, so the surgery had not been scheduled.
She sat on the bed, leaning her back against the headboard, looking lost and despondent. She did not even hear the knocking on the door until Zhu Linshuang opened it and walked in; only then did Bai Jinge come back to her senses and immediately compose herself.
“Jinge, so you were in the room.” Zhu Linshuang said, coming to sit on the edge of the bed, “Why didn’t you hear me after I called you so many times?”
Bai Jinge squeezed out a smile and prevaricated: “I was thinking about something and got distracted.”
Zhu Linshuang: “How was it? Was it a stomach ailment?”
Bai Jinge was still a bit dazed: “Hmm?”
Zhu Linshuang: “Didn’t you go to the hospital for an exam today?”
Bai Jinge: “I checked. It’s not a stomach ailment.”
Zhu Linshuang breathed a sigh of relief: “That’s good. As long as it’s not a stomach ailment, that’s good. Stomach ailments are quite troublesome. You know, my mother… she passed away from stomach cancer.”
Bai Jinge lowered her eyelashes and remained silent.
Zhu Linshuang frowned, noticing the unusual behavior of the other person at a glance, and asked directly: “Jinge, what’s wrong with you? I feel like you have something on your mind.”
Bai Jinge: “Nothing.”
Zhu Linshuang: “Alright. Although we are cousins, we grew up together since we were children; I can tell at a glance whether you have something bothering you or not.”
With red-rimmed eyes, Bai Jinge took out the medical records and the examination sheet hidden under the pillow. Silently, she handed them to Zhu Linshuang and her red lips moved slightly: “I’m pregnant.”
“It’s already been two months.”
Zhu Linshuang suddenly widened her dark eyes and was stunned for a long while before hurriedly taking the pile of examination sheets and medical records from Bai Jinge’s hand.
After Zhu Linshuang accompanied Bai Jinge to manage her uncle’s funeral, she went to another province for a business trip. She had been staying in the other province during this period, returning only two or three times. She didn’t even know when Bai Jinge had been fully marked by an Alpha. No wonder Bai Jinge hadn’t released pheromones in front of her during this time; it turned out she didn’t want her to smell the Alpha pheromones on her body.
Zhu Linshuang: “When did you fall in love? How come I don’t know anything about it? This… you even have a child?! Is the other person a female Alpha?”
As Bai Jinge’s cousin, they grew up together, so Zhu Linshuang naturally knew about Bai Jinge’s sexual orientation.
Bai Jinge held back the urge to cry, her eyes red, and she hesitated as she nodded: “…”
Her cousin was only half right; the other person was indeed a female Alpha, but they weren’t in any kind of love at all, and it was certainly not a normal romantic relationship.
Seeing her look like she was about to cry, Zhu Linshuang hurriedly advised: “Jinge, I know you are thin-skinned and might feel that having a child out of wedlock isn’t great for your reputation, but what era is this? There’s no need to care about those things. While you’re not showing yet, the two of you should hurry up and get your marriage certificate.”
The more Zhu Linshuang tried to persuade her, the more Bai Jinge wanted to cry. Suddenly, her wet, long eyelashes fluttered, and a tear fell.
“Don’t cry, don’t cry! A pregnant mom needs to keep a good mood.” Seeing this, Zhu Linshuang hurriedly handed the box of tissues on the bedside table to Bai Jinge.
In Zhu Linshuang’s memory, Bai Jinge almost never cried, and she had never shown weakness in front of her. This sudden change caught Zhu Linshuang off guard.
“This is a good thing. If your father knew about this in heaven, he would be very happy.”
Bai Jinge reached out to take the tissues, clutched them in her hand, and wiped her tears. With sparkling eyes, she stared at Zhu Linshuang: “Will my dad really… be happy in heaven?”
Zhu Linshuang nodded affirmatively: “Of course! This is your child, your father’s own grandchild!”
Bai Jinge looked troubled, looking at Zhu Linshuang with a hesitant expression, her long eyelashes, still damp with glistening tears, drooping down.
Zhu Linshuang frowned, sensing something wrong with Bai Jinge, and asked repeatedly: “What’s wrong? Could it be… that she doesn’t want this child and is forcing you to have an abortion? Tell me who she is, and I will definitely go find her to reason with her properly!”
“That is truly bullying!”
Bai Jinge shook her head and whispered with a sob: “It’s not that.”
Zhu Linshuang guessed: “Then what is it? Did you break up? So you can’t keep this child.”
Bai Jinge nodded, which was considered an admission. This child was an accident for Bai Jinge to begin with, and as for her deal with Ye Yunwan, she didn’t want Zhu Linshuang to know.
Zhu Linshuang let out a long breath and looked at Bai Jinge with consoling eyes: “It’s okay. If you don’t want it, we’ll go to the hospital for the surgery. I’ll go with you; don’t be afraid.”
Bai Jinge nodded again, then suddenly threw herself into Zhu Linshuang’s arms. She was so heartbroken that she couldn’t stop sobbing, her shoulders trembling slightly from time to time.
“It’s okay, I’m here. Your cousin will always be here,” Zhu Linshuang said, her own eyes reddening as she reached out to gently pat Bai Jinge’s back, comforting her softly.
At the same time, Zhu Linshuang had too many questions in her heart, but it was not the right time to ask. Based on her understanding of Bai Jinge, if she didn’t want to say it herself, it would be futile no matter how much you asked.
Zhu Linshuang thought seriously for a moment and suddenly said: “Jinge, if you can’t bear to let this child go, we can raise it ourselves.”
As soon as these words fell, the trembling body in her arms suddenly stopped moving.
Zhu Linshuang: “There are so many single mothers these days, and the child is your own blood relative. Since your father has passed, this child is the person closest to you in this world. If you plan to keep this child, we can raise it together.”
Bai Jinge completely stopped sobbing and asked herself silently whether she really couldn’t bear to lose this child as Zhu Linshuang had said.
The solid fortress in her heart was crumbling little by little. In fact, from the moment she heard the child’s heartbeat, Bai Jinge had already wavered and had developed an attachment to this sudden arrival.
Before going to sleep, Bai Jinge drank a cup of hot milk, but she vomited it all up shortly after.
Lying by the toilet, Bai Jinge vomited for a long time, as if she were going to vomit out her bile, physiological tears seeping from the corners of her eyes. She rested against the toilet for a while before she started to feel better.
Later, it was difficult to fall asleep, and she woke up after only three or four hours. Bai Jinge had a dream that she was in the hospital, and the scene from the daytime, lying on the medical bed listening to the fetal heartbeat, appeared in her dream again.
After waking up, Bai Jinge could not fall asleep anymore. She lay on her side in bed, looking at the dark window outside, lost in thought. Until the lights flickered outside the window and the sky turned bright.
At seven o’clock sharp in the morning, Zhu Linshuang came to knock on the door. After just one knock, Bai Jinge, who was still in her pajamas, opened the door. There were red bloodshot lines at the corners of her eyes, and her face looked exhausted. Because her skin was too pale, the dark circles under her eyes were quite obvious.
Zhu Linshuang was surprised: “Jinge, you didn’t sleep at all last night?”
Bai Jinge: “I slept for three or four hours.”
Zhu Linshuang: “Then are you okay like this? Should we go to the hospital tomorrow instead?”
Bai Jinge: “Linshuang, I’ve decided.”
Zhu Linshuang: “Huh?”
Bai Jinge looked at Zhu Linshuang with a determined gaze: “I want this child. She is my only blood relative in this world. I want to give birth to her and raise her well.”
Zhu Linshuang was stunned for a moment, then instantly showed a radiant smile: “Okay! No matter what you decide, your cousin will support you.”
“A pregnant woman must not be tired.” Zhu Linshuang said as she exaggeratedly helped Bai Jinge back to the bed to sit down, “It’s still early, hurry up and take a nap. I’m going to buy breakfast now. Is there anything you particularly want to eat?”
Bai Jinge thought for a moment: “I suddenly want to eat tofu pudding.”
Zhu Linshuang narrowed her eyes and made an “OK” gesture at Bai Jinge: “OK! I’ll go buy some tofu pudding right now, to feed my little niece.”
Bai Jinge sat quietly on the edge of the bed, watching Zhu Linshuang leave with a smile on her lips. She leaned back, sinking her whole body into the soft and comfortable bed, and reached out to touch her flat belly. A feeling like a warm spring breeze brushed through her heart.
