Pregnant After Being Marked By A Top-Tier Alpha - Chapter 2
When her emotions became difficult to suppress, Bai Jingge grabbed Ye Yunwan’s wrist tightly; her fingernails almost sank into the other woman’s flesh. With a pair of misty, tear-filled peach blossom eyes, she looked at the woman and pleaded, “President Ye, not here. I beg you.”
The woman, who had been burying her head in the crook of Bai Jingge’s neck kissing her, suddenly stopped. She tilted her head, her scarlet phoenix eyes staring fixedly at Bai Jingge. Breathing heavily, she uttered a cold, emotionless word: “Fine.”
In the next second, Ye Yunwan wrapped one arm around the small of Bai Jingge’s back and passed her other hand under the back of her thighs. With a standard “princess carry,” she lifted Bai Jingge up, and the two rose from the boss’s chair together.
Bai Jingge looked at Ye Yunwan in astonishment, subconsciously wrapping her arms around the other woman’s neck.
Ye Yunwan did not look at Bai Jingge. Instead, she held her firmly, left the study, walked down the quiet, long corridor, and headed toward her own bedroom.
When Bai Jingge woke up again, her heat cycle had completely ended three days later.
She lay naked on the soft, large bed, wrapped tightly in a thin silk-velvet quilt. Her entire body felt as if it had been taken apart, and her throat was so dry it felt like it was smoking.
The bedroom was dark, with only a warm yellow bedside lamp lit. In the dim light, a torn bean-green dress and various undergarments lay quietly on the floor.
Bai Jingge turned her head, and as her gaze shifted, she discovered a glass cup sitting on the nightstand, filled to the brim with water.
She stretched out her arm until she finally reached the glass. Lifting her chin slightly, she drank the entire glass of water in one go.
Just as she set the glass down, a knock sounded at the door. Immediately following it was the voice of a sweet young girl.
“Miss Bai, I am here to deliver some clothes for you to change into. Is it convenient for me to come in?”
Bai Jingge guarded herself by pulling the quilt tighter, stretched her neck toward the door, and replied with a blushing face: “It’s convenient.”
“Please come in!”
When Bai Jingge was fully dressed and arrived in the first-floor living room, she inadvertently looked up to see a strange woman sitting properly on the sofa. She wore a beige professional suit and had capable, straight, shoulder-length hair dyed chestnut brown.
Seeing that Bai Jingge had finally come down, Secretary Zhao immediately stood up from the sofa and gave Bai Jingge a particularly official smile: “Good afternoon, Miss Bai. I am President Ye’s secretary. My surname is Zhao, and I am an Omega.”
“Good afternoon, Secretary Zhao.” Bai Jingge stood where she was and returned a polite smile.
Secretary Zhao extended her right hand, her five fingers together, and pointed to the sofa opposite her: “Miss Bai, please sit.”
Bai Jingge walked to the sofa, smoothed her skirt, and sat down.
Seeing that Bai Jingge was seated across from her, Secretary Zhao sat back down. She then took a check and a withdrawal letter from her briefcase.
Secretary Zhao held the check and the withdrawal letter and handed them over: “Miss Bai, this is the withdrawal letter you wanted. Additionally, here is a check from President Ye for you.”
Bai Jingge’s mouth twitched. Looking at Secretary Zhao’s calm expression, she controlled her emotions with great breeding: “A check? What does President Ye mean by this?”
Secretary Zhao explained quickly: “Miss Bai, you’ve misunderstood. President Ye has no other intentions. This check is startup capital gifted to you by President Ye. I imagine you wouldn’t want to see your family’s company go bankrupt just like that.”
“With this startup capital, Miss Bai, you can make a comeback.”
“Thank you.” Bai Jingge had a cold face, clearly refusing. “Please relay to your President Ye that I will not accept this money. Money was not part of the deal between President Ye and me. I only want this withdrawal letter from the Du family. Please take this check back, Secretary Zhao.”
After saying this, Bai Jingge reached out and accepted only the withdrawal letter from Secretary Zhao’s hand.
It had rained early in the morning, and a thick fog blanketed the entire estate, not dispersing for a long time. The air was filled with the unique scent of soil after the rain.
Crystal-clear beads of water hung on the tips of green leaves, falling into the mud with a “plop.”
On the road down the mountain, because of the heavy fog, visibility was very low. To ensure safety, the driver drove the car very slowly.
Bai Jingge sat silently in the backseat, clutching the withdrawal letter tightly in her hand.
Although she didn’t know how Ye Yunwan managed it—and Bai Jingge didn’t care—at least she had gotten what she wanted, and her goal was achieved. With this withdrawal letter from the Du family, her father could be spared from imprisonment.
I don’t know how much time had passed when the phone in her bag suddenly vibrated dully.
The vibration pulled Bai Jingge’s wandering thoughts back to reality. She organized her emotions and took out the phone that kept ringing.
It was a call from her cousin, Zhu Linshuang.
“Hello, cousin.” Bai Jingge quickly pressed the answer button, held the phone to her ear, and spoke to the other end of the line.
“Jingge, where are you right now?” Zhu Linshuang’s urgent, anxious voice came from the other side, her tone clearly unstable.
“What happened?” Bai Jingge’s brows knit tightly together, and a bad premonition suddenly rose in her heart.
“Your father was in a car accident. He is being resuscitated in the hospital, and his condition… is not very optimistic.”
“Hello! Jingge! Are you listening?”
“Which hospital is my father in?”
“The Municipal People’s Hospital.”
“I’m coming right now!”
Bai Jingge held back the urge to cry, but she couldn’t stop the tears from welling up and overflowing. The tears fell like broken pearls, crystal clear, dripping onto her dress one by one.
9:00 PM, Municipal People’s Hospital.
The hospital corridor was deathly silent. Some patients in blue and white striped hospital gowns passed by, supported by their family members. Each patient’s face was deathly pale, their eyes hollow and vacant.
The light above the rescue room remained on, emitting a glaring red glow.
Zhu Linshuang sat alone on the bench outside the rescue room, her head buried, her hands plunged into her messy hair. Her whole body trembled uncontrollably, and sweat-dampened strands of hair clung to her forehead.
At the entrance of the rescue room, the pale-faced Bai Jingge stood motionless. The tear tracks on her face had already dried, and her thin lips were pressed tightly together.
The surgery had been going on for nearly five hours. Suddenly, the door to the rescue room was pushed open.
The lead surgeon in green surgical scrubs walked out, his gloves stained with blood.
Bai Jingge came back to her senses. She quickly rushed forward, staring at the lead surgeon with eyes full of red blood, and grabbed the doctor’s arm, asking urgently: “Doctor, how is he?”
“The patient has been saved, right?”
Hearing this, Zhu Linshuang, who was on the side, also hurriedly rose from her chair, ran over, and asked cautiously: “Doctor, how is the patient?”
The lead surgeon looked grave and apologized: “I’m sorry, we’ve done everything we could.”
Bai Jingge’s body stiffened, and she staggered back a large step. Fortunately, Zhu Linshuang was quick-witted and caught the swaying Bai Jingge.
“Jingge, please accept my condolences.” Zhu Linshuang held Bai Jingge firmly and comforted her with a choked voice.
“Your father, in his spirit in heaven, certainly wouldn’t want to see you looking this sad.”
Bai Jingge looked like death, the circles around her eyes turning red again. Crystal tears fell silently, and she looked at Zhu Linshuang, her face covered in tears, her pale lips trembling: “I… no longer have… a father.”
These simple words exhausted all of Bai Jingge’s strength.
As soon as she finished speaking, Bai Jingge felt the world go black, and there was no strength left in her body. She closed her eyes and collapsed into Zhu Linshuang’s arms.
“Jingge! Jingge!”
“Someone has fainted! Come quickly!”
She had thought that by obtaining this withdrawal letter, her father would be spared from imprisonment and could enjoy his golden years at home in peace.
Bai Jingge graduated from the Royal College of Art in London; even if her family’s group went bankrupt, she could rely on her own skills to support herself and her father.
But fate is cruel. This sudden car accident ruined everything, and her father ultimately closed his eyes forever after resuscitation failed.
In the year Bai Jingge turned twenty-three, her family’s company declared bankruptcy. Bai Jingge went from a wealthy socialite born with a silver spoon in her mouth to a debt-ridden “second-generation debtor.” Her father also died in a sudden car accident after resuscitation failed.
On the day of the funeral, it was raining. Drizzling and constant, the rain wasn’t heavy.
In the suburbs, inside a cemetery, green pines and cypresses stood tall in the misty rain.
The relatives who had come to pay their respects had already left, leaving only Bai Jingge, dressed in black, standing before the tombstone, holding a black umbrella in one hand and a bouquet of white chrysanthemums in her arms.
The slanted rain flew into the umbrella, and raindrops hit the petals. The petals were soaked in the rain, each one hanging with a crystal-clear water droplet.
Bai Jingge’s face was as pale as paper, without a hint of color. Her lips were pressed into a straight line, silently watching the small black-and-white photo on the tombstone.
The man in the photo, although he had white hair at his temples, did not look very old. His eyes were dark and piercing, full of upright, heroic spirit.
Old Master Bai was a veteran who went into business after retiring from the military. Having spent over twenty years in the army, his bones naturally carried an imposing aura.
Bai Jingge had been standing before the tombstone for nearly an hour. Only when she felt clear pain in her knees did she take a step forward, squat down, and place the bouquet of chrysanthemums before the tombstone.
“Dad, I remember you often saying that you were worried Mom would be lonely alone down there, but you couldn’t bear to leave your precious daughter. Now… you and Mom can finally be reunited.”
“Dad, don’t worry about me. I can support myself…”
The rain suddenly grew heavier. Raindrops “pattered” against the umbrella, forming thin, crystal-clear threads of water that slid down the edge of the umbrella and fell endlessly.
The sky was gloomy, and a torrential downpour poured from the dark clouds. The rain nourished all things on earth and moistened the soil beneath her feet.
