Perfect Possession - Episode 76
“You asked if you were on my list? That alone is enough to insult me, but how about we try it out? It’ll be a fight between Do-young and Hando, are you sure you’re okay with that? Chairman Cha won’t stand still. Are you confident?”
Seo-yeon turned to Jaehoon and smiled brightly. Only then did his eyes return to normal. He looked at Ha-jin with contempt and said confidently.
“I’m confident I can crush him.”
Realizing that the two were serious, Ha-jin straightened his jacket and bowed politely.
“I’m sorry. I haven’t been in Korea long and made a big mistake.”
“Get lost.”
Jaehoon didn’t want to talk anymore and said curtly. As Ha-jin disappeared, Jaehoon sighed, looking at Seo-yeon.
“Were you smiling brightly again?”
Whenever Jaehoon saw Seo-yeon smiling to herself in the empty living room or on the terrace, lost in thought, his heart couldn’t take it. She was so beautiful that he would stare at her for a long time without saying a word. The problem was that it was okay if it was at home, but whenever they went out like this, it always turned out like this. Even when they went to the grocery store.
“I just smile when I think of you. Stop being angry and let’s eat.”
“You want to eat here?”
“Why? Are you embarrassed because we just fought? But is your fist okay?”
“It hurts.”
Jaehoon said honestly, pulling out a chair for Seo-yeon to sit. As she sat down, she frowned, looking at his reddened hand.
“What’s this? It’s all red.”
“My body moves before I even realize it. Besides, he was getting in your face just now. Ugh, it pisses me off just thinking about it.”
Jaehoon glared at the entrance where Ha-jin had left.
“Stop being angry. I told him off, so it won’t happen again.”
“I’ll never see him again.”
“He’s from Hando Group, though?”
There was a high probability of seeing him at year-end gatherings or founding parties.
“Damn it, I’m not sending him an invitation.”
“Then you’re losing. Are we going to eat?”
Jaehoon couldn’t help but chuckle at Seo-yeon, who was acting cute and winking at him. He touched her cheek and whispered sweetly.
“I was furious, but I’m melting when I see you.”
“That’s so cheesy, but it’s unconditionally sexy when you say it.”
As Seo-yeon narrowed her eyes, Jaehoon’s smile turned suggestive.
“We’re having dinner and then a date, right? I think you said you wanted to walk.”
“Of course.”
The two laughed and ordered their food as if nothing had happened with Ha-jin. The manager seemed to have cleared the area, as people’s attention was no longer on them. It was an honor for the restaurant to have the chairman and his wife of Do-young Group visit, so they took thorough care of security without being told.
The two enjoyed the chef’s recommended tenderloin steak and left the restaurant. Seo-yeon linked her arm with Jaehoon’s and strolled leisurely down the street. The restaurant wasn’t far from Daehak-ro, so they decided to have their date there. Jaehoon had never gone to see a performance or meet friends in Daehak-ro because he hadn’t gone to university in Korea, which worried Seo-yeon.
“Is it always this crowded here?”
“It’s Daehak-ro. I like it because it’s been a while since I’ve seen so many people.”
“I see. But wouldn’t it be suffocating to wear something like that?”
Jaehoon asked, watching someone handing out pamphlets in a strange costume to promote a performance.
“They must have made it so they can breathe. If you’re curious, try wearing it. I’ll buy you and Tae-yul a set.”
He frowned at Seo-yeon, who was laughing playfully.
“You just imagined it, didn’t you? Your lips are twitching trying not to laugh.”
“A lady’s lips don’t twitch. I was just imagining how cute Tae-yul would look wearing it.”
“I’m never wearing that. Our Tae-yul would hate it too. He hates feeling stuffy.”
“That’s right. He cries when he’s uncomfortable, just like you.”
“You always say things like that are like me.”
“It’s true.”
The two leaned on each other as they walked down the street. They were enjoying themselves, walking without any intention of going anywhere or any destination. When people came up to them and handed them pamphlets, Jaehoon silently accepted them and read them.
“It’s an interesting story.”
Seo-yeon was dumbfounded after hearing the story of a man who followed a dead woman to the spirit world and fell in love with another spirit. But Jaehoon reassured her, secretly enjoying it.
“Don’t worry. I only have you. I won’t even bat an eye no matter how sexy a spirit comes on to me.”
“Why are you saying the obvious like it’s something to be proud of? If you followed her to the spirit world, you should fulfill your unfinished love. What is this? He’s a complete scoundrel.”
Seo-yeon started out joking, but she got really angry as she talked. She glared at the pamphlet and threw it in the trash can next to her.
“It’s ridiculous to cheat with another woman’s spirit.”
“I’m not, I tell you. And this is just a musical, wasn’t it?”
Jaehoon asked, looking back at the trash can where he had thrown the pamphlet.
“It’s a play.”
Seo-yeon was about to laugh, wondering if he had said it was interesting without even knowing what it was. But she looked at him, curious about what Jaehoon would say next.
“It was a play? Who planned it? It looks like a musical would have been more fun, don’t you think?”
“So what?”
“It’s just a story. A man who gave his life for the person he loved would never be interested in another spirit. You shouldn’t make fun of a man’s pure heart, Seo-yeon.”
Seo-yeon, who had been frowning and holding back laughter as she watched Jaehoon trying to appease her, burst out laughing.
“What is it? You’re being serious.”
“Where are you going? All I hear is, ‘It’s not me. I would never do that. Believe me, Seo-yeon.'”
“Did you catch on?”
“I caught on.”
Seo-yeon clung to Jaehoon even more and leaned on him. She was so happy in this moment, walking one step at a time to match his pace. She also enjoyed bickering over topics that had nothing to do with them. Seo-yeon regretted not having this time sooner.
“This is nice.”
Jaehoon said in a low voice, his dark eyes filled with happiness, as if he had understood her feelings.
“It is nice.”
“Mm.”
“Mm.”
Jaehoon, who had been staring straight ahead, said something incomprehensible, and Seo-yeon followed suit. The next moment, the two spoke at the same time.
“Next time, Tae-yul should…”
“If we bring that kid too…”
Seo-yeon glared playfully at Jaehoon.
“Were you just thinking about your son while you were with me?”
“Were you thinking about your son while walking with such a handsome husband?”
“No, I suddenly thought of Tae-yul when I saw that doll over there.”
“Me too. I really wasn’t thinking about anything but you until then.”
“No, I know that when you and Tae-yul are trying to trick me, the corners of your eyes droop a little here.”
Seo-yeon said, touching Jaehoon’s eyes with her hand.
“You have that exact expression right now.”
“Do I? That’s strange. I don’t think I’m making any strange expressions.”
He scratched his temple and slightly averted his gaze. Seo-yeon couldn’t help but feel affectionate when Jaehoon was flustered and avoided her gaze. Without realizing it, she stood on tiptoe and kissed Jaehoon on the cheek.
Jaehoon looked at Seo-yeon with surprised eyes. His heart felt like it was going to explode whenever he saw Seo-yeon, who was changing so boldly that even he was surprised. Even now, he swallowed hard without realizing it, feeling the urge to take her home right away, or even to a nearby hotel.
“You were like the wolf in Little Red Riding Hood just now. Why are you drooling?”
“Drooling… Seo-yeon, we…”
“That huge puppy doll over there, doesn’t it look a lot like Tae-yul’s puppy? Should we buy that and go home?”
Seo-yeon knew what Jaehoon’s “we” was going to lead to, but she pretended not to know. Jaehoon chuckled and pulled her into a tight hug.
“You really always play with my emotions. Do you even know that?”
“I’ll take that as you saying I’m an attractive wife.”
Seo-yeon took Jaehoon’s hand and ran to the place where they were selling the doll. When they got there, it looked exactly like Tae-yul’s favorite doll, Puppy, from the shape of its face to the shape of its eyes.
“Won’t he be surprised because it’s so big?”
It was so big that it looked bigger than Tae-yul’s height.
“I saw a picture of him with a very big dog last time, and he really liked it. He’ll be fine. I really want to see him dragging this around.”
After imagining that scene, the two wanted to go home as soon as possible. Jaehoon bought the puppy doll and headed to the bus stop to catch a taxi. It was the first time he had taken a taxi since he had taken one to Seo-yeon’s house after drinking when she was his secretary. It wasn’t a pleasant experience, but anything was good as long as he was with Seo-yeon. Amidst the crowd in front of the taxi stand, Jaehoon joked with Seo-yeon as they waited for their turn.
