Perfect Possession - Episode 49
“Heave-ho!”
Even though Tae-yul diligently hit the ball, he pouted when it fell right in front of his feet.
“Tae-yul, it’s okay. Dad will wait,”
Seo-yeon smiled softly, watching Jaehoon calmly handle Tae-yul.
“A man so full of love doesn’t know himself very well.”
She murmured lowly, filming Tae-yul playing ball with her phone. Encouraged by Jaehoon, Tae-yul picked up the ball again and suddenly hugged it to his chest, as if he had no intention of hitting it with his fist.
Seo-yeon wondered why he was doing that, but then Tae-yul pushed the ball with his chest and stretched out his arms. As a result, Tae-yul fell onto the lawn, supporting himself with his hands, but the ball bounced forward.
“Tae-yul!”
Jaehoon, surprised, was about to run over, but Tae-yul jumped up and shouted, stomping his feet.
“Ball! Ball poke.”
Seo-yeon burst into laughter, causing the video she was filming to shake. But she was able to capture all of Tae-yul’s happy moments.
“Wow, isn’t he a genius? Did you see him using his chest because his arms wouldn’t work?”
“I did.”
Seo-yeon smiled brightly, watching Tae-yul hug the ball again and push it with his chest.
“Ah, I think our Tae-yul is better at using his head even though he’s only 17 months old.”
“Better? Than who?”
“No, not you.”
“Then who?”
“Hey, why are you taking it so seriously over something like that? It just came out wrong. Now you film. I’m going to race Tae-yul. This place is so nice. You can run around without getting hurt.”
Jaehoon took the phone, muttering, “It didn’t come out wrong,” and remained curious. Seo-yeon pretended not to notice and went to Tae-yul.
“Tae-yul, shall we race to that tree with Mommy?”
“Huh?”
Tae-yul tilted his head, looking at Seo-yeon with his big, black eyes. She demonstrated running, explaining,
“When I say ‘Go,’ we run to that big tree over there.”
“Okay. Go.”
Saying “Go” himself, Tae-yul stuck out his chest and started running. He was so fast, even while waddling, that Seo-yeon was surprised.
She called out to Tae-yul and ran after him. But Tae-yul, even more excited that his mom was chasing him, laughed gleefully and sped up.
“Oh? He’s too fast.”
Jaehoon, who had been filming with his phone, put it in his pocket and ran after Tae-yul when he saw him darting away.
“Mommy, Daddy! Zoom, zoom.”
Tae-yul, making loud noises, turned around and fell forward. Seo-yeon missed catching him by a hair’s breadth. As soon as Tae-yul hit the ground, he burst into tears. He wailed and wailed, and when Jaehoon came and picked him up, he cried even louder.
“What should I do? I shouldn’t have suggested a race.”
Seo-yeon said with a distressed look.
“It’s okay. The grass is soft, so he probably didn’t get hurt that badly.”
Jaehoon’s hands trembled as he rolled up Tae-yul’s pants. Seo-yeon felt so sorry for Tae-yul that she wiped away his tears and checked his knees.
Fortunately, there was no blood or broken skin. Seo-yeon blew on his reddened knees and wiped away Tae-yul’s tears.
“Does it hurt a lot?”
His crying gradually subsided, and he sniffled. Seo-yeon wiped his nose with a towel she had. Then, Tae-yul smiled sheepishly with a tear-stained face.
“Tae-yul, Mommy and Daddy were so surprised. Does it not hurt?”
“Ouch.”
Tae-yul said in a cute voice, pressing his knees.
“Does that mean it hurts?”
Seo-yeon shook her head, seeing Jaehoon ask in surprise.
“I don’t think it’s that bad. Maybe he’s just a good crier. Tae-yul, come here.”
When Seo-yeon held out her hand, Tae-yul jumped up and sat on his mom’s lap. He leaned comfortably against her, looking at his reddened knees and playing with them, not seeming to be in much pain.
“I think we can just put some medicine on it.”
“No, we should show it to Jae-moon.”
Jaehoon took out the phone he had put in his pocket.
“Don’t. What if he’s on a date?”
“Is that important?”
Jaehoon video-called Jae-moon despite Seo-yeon’s protests. After a while, Jae-moon appeared on the screen with a disgruntled expression, wearing a white coat.
-If it’s nothing important, I’m flying all the way to Jeju Island to freeload.
“It’s important, that’s why I called. Take a look at this. He just fell and cried really loudly.”
-Kids usually cry a lot even for minor things. Tae-yul, hello. Our Tae-yul must be tired of having such a worried dad. And so is your uncle.
Jae-moon spoke to Tae-yul and waved his hand. Tae-yul, fascinated, stared at the phone and then poked Jae-moon with his finger, beaming.
“Uncle.”
After they taught him to say “Uncle,” Tae-yul called Jae-moon “Uncle” ever since, making them laugh for a long time.
“Say, ‘Hello, Uncle Jae-moon.’ Dad’s so worried, it’s really tiring,”
Seo-yeon mimicked Tae-yul as she said what she wanted to say. Tae-yul waved at Jae-moon.
“Uncle, Uncle Uncle.”
Jaehoon and Seo-yeon couldn’t help but laugh at how happy he was, calling his uncle three times in a row.
After showing him the injured knee, Jae-moon advised them that there was no need to apply medicine and just blow on it a few times, warning them that he would chase them to Jeju Island if they called him one more time before hanging up.
After Seo-yeon blew on it, Tae-yul jumped up and had fun playing with the ball for a long time, enjoying pushing it with his chest.
The three of them did whatever they wanted, playing when they wanted to play, eating when they wanted to eat. When they wanted to rest, they went to the rooftop terrace that the late Chairman Han had built for his wife and looked out at the sea.
“Wawa?”
Tae-yul pointed to the Jeju sea and asked.
“Sea.”
When Seo-yeon slowly repeated it, he pursed his lips and said in a clear voice.
“Sea.”
“Wow, our Tae-yul said it correctly after Mommy. Sea.”
“Sea, sea.”
Tae-yul, excited by Seo-yeon’s praise, looked at Jaehoon, saying it in a loud voice. His eyes were full of expectation, as if saying, “Hurry up and praise me too!”
Jaehoon stroked Tae-yul’s head with eyes that seemed to have something to say, then whispered in Seo-yeon’s ear.
“I’m a little sad. It’s not after ‘sea,’ is it?”
“Pardon?”
“Well, you say it correctly. If you take away the ‘D,’ I pronounced it more accurately than ‘sea.'”
“You really care about everything.”
Seo-yeon couldn’t laugh at Jaehoon’s surprisingly serious expression.
“Are you serious?”
“No, well… I’m just saying.”
He avoided Seo-yeon’s eyes, embarrassed, then picked up Tae-yul and made him look at him.
“Tae-yul, say ‘Daddy.'”
“Daddydy.”
“No, Daddy.”
Jaehoon said “Daddy” quickly and briefly. Tae-yul, as if wondering if he had called it wrong, stared intently at Jaehoon without blinking. Finally, he opened his mouth.
Seo-yeon was dumbfounded by the sight of his expectant black eyes watching his son intently. But deep down, she hoped Tae-yul would say it correctly.
“Daddy.”
He said it quickly, as if a strong wind had passed, but this time Tae-yul said it properly.
“Yes, that’s it. Daddy is Daddy, not ‘Daddydy.’ Seo-yeon, did you hear? He clearly said Daddy?”
Seo-yeon could see that Jaehoon was so happy that she couldn’t even joke around. She congratulated him, genuinely happy, without realizing it.
“Jaehoon, congratulations.”
“Let’s have a drink tonight. On a happy day like today…”
“Daddydydy, seaseasea.”
Seo-yeon burst into laughter, clutching her stomach, watching Jaehoon freeze as if turned to ice. Not only did he call him “Daddydy” again, but he even added another “dy,” making it impossible for her to hold back.
Seo-yeon collapsed onto the sofa, curling up and laughing.
“Min Seo-yeon, stop laughing.”
Jaehoon couldn’t say anything to his son, who was smiling with his teeth showing because he was so happy, and sat on the sofa as if attacking Seo-yeon. Tae-yul, sandwiched between his mom and dad, called Jaehoon “Daddydy” repeatedly, enjoying it. As a result, Seo-yeon couldn’t even make a sound, clutching her stomach.
Jaehoon put Tae-yul on his back and hugged Seo-yeon from behind.
“Is it fun? I’m really serious.”
“Sorry, I’m sorry, but please move away.”
Seo-yeon pushed Jaehoon away, trying to hold back her laughter somehow. But she couldn’t because Tae-yul thought it was an airplane ride and called Jaehoon, shaking his body.
“Daddydy. Daddydy? Mommy?”
“Ugh, Tae-yul, Dad’s back. Do you know how important this is?”
“Oh, really, stop it. I’m going to die.”
The sea or the sunset evening scenery no longer entered the eyes of the three of them. Looking at each other like this, any beautiful scenery in the world seemed like just an ordinary front yard to them.
Seo-yeon thought she knew why the late Chairman Han had left this villa to Jaehoon. Jaehoon also used this place occasionally, and it had a baby room next to the master bedroom.
She could feel their desire for Jaehoon to meet someone he loved and start a family. After putting Tae-yul to sleep, the two of them came out to the living room near the baby room and sat down with wine glasses.
“Seo-yeon.”
Jaehoon quietly called her. Seo-yeon looked at him without a word.
“Are you going to be okay even if I leave Do-young?”
“Are you going to leave?”
Seo-yeon knew how attached he was to the Do-young Group. The late Chairman Han may have had extraordinary marital affection, but he was not blessed with children.
Both of his sons not only failed to live up to their expectations, but were also busy taking care of their own greed. So, they must have had great expectations for Jaehoon.
Jaehoon, who resembled his grandfather more than his father, exceeded his expectations and raised Do-young to the No. 1 group in the business world. It was only natural that Jaehoon would say something like this because of them.
“Jaehoon.”
