Perfect Possession - Episode 44
Mi-ryung glanced at Seo-yeon as she came out, but her gaze went past her. As expected, Tae-yul wasn’t with her.
At first, she thought Seo-yeon was keeping them apart out of spite. But now, Mi-ryung was convinced that there was another reason why she was so desperately preventing them from meeting.
Mi-ryung watched as Seo-yeon approached and bowed her head. Jaehoon had said he found the child at an orphanage. Mi-ryung couldn’t understand how a mother could give birth to a child and then have him found in an orphanage.
How could a 16-month-old baby be in an orphanage? She could only assume that Seo-yeon had abandoned him herself and was putting on a show to try and win Jaehoon back.
Even if that wasn’t the case, Mi-ryung could never forgive Seo-yeon for losing her child. This was more than enough reason to make Jaehoon break up with her.
Mi-ryung glared menacingly at the security guard blocking her path, and Seo-yeon gave the guard a look. Only then did the guard step aside, and Mi-ryung approached Seo-yeon, looking at her with disdain.
“So, I still can’t see my grandson today?”
“No. I can’t let you see him.”
“Is it that you can’t show him to me, or is there another reason why you can’t?”
Seo-yeon looked directly at Mi-ryung. If it weren’t for the current situation, she would have done her best for Mi-ryung, the woman who gave birth to Jaehoon.
But now, Seo-yeon was Tae-yul’s mother. She had no intention of forgiving anyone who disrupted Tae-yul’s stability, no matter the reason.
“Whether there’s another reason or not, it doesn’t matter. Tae-yul’s stability is what’s important right now.”
“Stability? Is Tae-yul sick? Is that why you abandoned him at an orphanage?”
Seo-yeon, who had been calmly dealing with Mi-ryung, felt like she was being swallowed into the mouth of a dark beast. The nerves in her body snapped, and the blood that had been running through her heart scattered in all directions.
She clenched her fists and gritted her teeth. She bit down so hard that her smooth, white jaw trembled slightly.
Even if Seo-yeon was considered a murderer, she had no intention of groveling and bowing her head to Mi-ryung. She looked directly at Mi-ryung and slowly opened her mouth.
“Would you abandon Jaehoon at an orphanage if he were sick?”
“What nonsense are you talking about? I’m talking about you.”
“Who’s talking nonsense here? When Madam had Team Leader Han collude with my money-grubbing mother to break me up with Jaehoon, I was already pregnant. If you had just left us alone, our Tae-yul wouldn’t… wouldn’t be sick.”
Seo-yeon glared at Jia menacingly before turning her gaze back to Mi-ryung.
“You’re out of your mind. Where are you trying to place the blame! We can’t entrust the precious Do-young bloodline to someone who can’t even take care of their own child. Let’s do this by the book.”
“Yes! Go ahead and try. The punishment for not protecting my child isn’t something for you to mete out. You have no right to. So, take this and leave.”
Seo-yeon placed the bankbook containing 1 billion won, which she always carried with her, into Mi-ryung’s hand.
“This is the 1 billion won you gave my mother. My mother, one of the people responsible for making my child the way he is, died as punishment for that. So, you should take care of yourself too.”
“What!”
Mi-ryung didn’t even look at the bankbook that fell to the floor and raised her hand towards Seo-yeon.
That’s when it happened. The sound of small feet running down the hallway could be heard. Instinctively, Seo-yeon turned her head first. Doctor Yang and Jae-moon, who had followed him out, were chasing after Tae-yul.
“Tae, Tae-yul.”
Surprised, Seo-yeon called out to Tae-yul and approached him.
“That child, why is he so quiet? He really can’t talk. He’s not even crying?”
Seo-yeon turned back to Mi-ryung, who was speaking slowly, with eyes full of anger.
A dull sound came from somewhere. She hurriedly turned her gaze and saw Tae-yul throw the doll he was holding onto the floor. Then, he pouted and suddenly opened his mouth wide.
At the same time, a cry that seemed to shake the hallway rang out. As if trying to release all the pent-up emotions in his small chest, Tae-yul’s cry was loud and clear.
Seo-yeon covered her mouth with her hand, unable to even wipe away the tears that were streaming down her face. Like a newborn baby announcing its existence with a cry, Tae-yul was making himself known to everyone.
Seo-yeon ran to Tae-yul and hugged him tightly. It was the first time she had heard her child cry.
After watching a video of brushing teeth, Jaehoon felt so guilty for not being able to accompany them to the hospital. Thinking that he couldn’t let things continue this way, he postponed his afternoon schedule and headed to the center.
On the way, he received a call from Jae-moon saying that Mi-ryung had come looking for them, and Jaehoon’s heart grew anxious.
He couldn’t even wait to park the car in the hospital parking lot, so he got out at the entrance. He couldn’t wait for the elevator and immediately ran up the stairs, when he heard a child’s cry.
In that moment, everything around him went silent, and only the child’s cry echoed around him, enveloping him. He couldn’t breathe and was paralyzed, unable to move.
But when he realized that the cry was Tae-yul’s, he ran up the stairs like a madman.
Jaehoon saw Seo-yeon holding Tae-yul in the middle of the hallway. He pushed past Jia and Mi-ryung, who were blocking Seo-yeon and Tae-yul, and approached them.
“Seo, Seo-yeon. Tae-yul.”
Jaehoon’s voice trembled with heartbreaking emotion.
Seo-yeon sobbed and turned to look at Jaehoon. She reached out her hand to him while holding Tae-yul.
“Jaehoon… our Tae-yul….”
She couldn’t finish her sentence.
Jaehoon approached them and collapsed to his knees, hugging Seo-yeon and Tae-yul tightly. His broad shoulders were shaking violently.
“Waaa… Momdad.”
Seo-yeon gasped. She forgot to wipe away Tae-yul’s tears, her heart feeling like it would burst at the sound mixed in with his cries.
Jaehoon’s hands, which were holding her shoulders, were trembling so much that her body felt like it was convulsing. Seo-yeon looked at Tae-yul and slowly wiped away his tears.
“Tae, Tae-yul.”
“Mom… dad.”
“Ah….”
Seo-yeon let out a short exclamation at Tae-yul’s clear voice and burst into tears. Words of gratitude flowed endlessly from her lips.
“Tae-yul, who… who did you just call?”
Jaehoon couldn’t believe his ears, but he wanted to hear it again. He had never felt every drop of blood in his body tremble like this before.
Tae-yul sniffled and wiped Seo-yeon’s tears with his finger, pressing down hard. He seemed to be trying to wipe them away in his own way. She smiled brightly and wiped away Tae-yul’s tears and then her own.
“Tae-yul, who did you just call?”
Seo-yeon asked Tae-yul in a trembling voice. Tae-yul looked back and forth between Jaehoon and Seo-yeon, then pouted again and hugged them both tightly.
“Momdad.”
“Ah….”
A sigh that resonated with his heart escaped from Jaehoon’s lips as well.
Suddenly, Tae-yul raised his head and pointed to Seo-yeon and Jaehoon in turn. The sound of stifled sobs from the people watching Tae-yul could be heard from all around.
“Mom. Dad.”
He clearly said “Mom” to Seo-yeon, but when he called out to Jaehoon, he repeated the “dad” sound over and over. Seo-yeon and Jaehoon laughed and cried. Jaehoon was so happy that he lifted Tae-yul up and shouted.
“Tae-yul, yes, I’m your dad. You little rascal, you’re finally telling me now?”
Jaehoon, who was holding Tae-yul and didn’t know what to do, was also constantly shedding tears. Seo-yeon stood up and looked at the two of them with loving eyes.
It was a day that made her feel like she could die happy. As she had imagined, the words “Mom” and “Dad” that Tae-yul called out melted their hearts.
Seo-yeon knew that the reason Tae-yul had started speaking was ironically Mi-ryung, but that didn’t mean she was going to forgive her.
Jaehoon, who had been happily holding Tae-yul, handed his son back to Seo-yeon.
“I’ll be right back, so go inside. Jae-moon.”
“Okay. Let’s go, Tae-yul. Seo-yeon, let’s go.”
Seo-yeon looked at Jaehoon gently and went into the consultation room with Jae-moon.
Jaehoon wiped his face with the towel that Hyun-shik handed him and approached Mi-ryung, who was still in shock. Her gaze stopped on Jaehoon.
Mi-ryung opened her mouth as if to say something, but Jaehoon cut her off firmly.
“Say one more word. Then you’ll see me for who I really am. How nasty I can be.”
Jaehoon glared at Jia as if she wasn’t even worth talking to.
“Is there any reason for me to keep Team Leader Han around any longer? Hyun-shik, tell the HR department to announce that the position of accounting team leader is vacant.”
“V, Vice President. Are you firing me right now? You can’t do this.”
Jia, who never imagined that she would be fired, stammered in shock.
“The evil deeds you’ve committed aren’t limited to this, are they? There are more than enough reasons to fire you. Hyun-shik, let her choose a few of them. Make sure that I don’t see Team Leader Han, no, Jia, in this company tomorrow.”
“Yes, I understand.”
Jaehoon turned his gaze back to Mi-ryung.
“Go back. If you don’t want to be dragged away by the security guards, you should leave now.”
When Mi-ryung didn’t move, Jaehoon nodded to the security guards. As the security guards approached, she glared at Jaehoon menacingly and opened her mouth.
“I’m leaving now, but you’ll have to explain everything properly. Unless you want to see Secretary Min in court.”
“Go ahead and try. If you think things will go your way just because it’s what you want, wake up from your dream.”
Mi-ryung took a deep breath and glared at Jaehoon menacingly before roughly pushing away the security guard who approached her.
“Get out of my way!”
“A, Aunt. What about me?”
Jia called out to Mi-ryung, whimpering.
“Shut your mouth and follow me!”
At Mi-ryung’s harsh command, Jia fidgeted and followed her out. Jaehoon quickly headed to the center as soon as the two of them were completely out of his sight.
He wanted to hear his son’s voice again. The cute sound of him calling him “Dad” made him feel a happiness that didn’t exist in this world.
“He finally spoke. He called me ‘Dad’.”
The words that Tae-yul had called him flowed from his lips.
