Perfect Possession - Episode 27
Seo-yeon watched Jaehoon place the dining chair next to the table and said,
“Every time rain falls on the ceiling, my shoulders flinch.”
“Looks like my body knows it too.”
Looking at Tae-yul, he really did flinch his shoulders whenever rain fell on the glass ceiling, just like Seo-yeon said.
“Cute.”
“Indeed.”
Jaehoon quietly repeated to himself, his gaze passing Tae-yul and settling on Seo-yeon. Seo-yeon’s clear eyes, looking at Tae-yul with an emotional face, stirred his heart.
Jaehoon quickly turned his gaze away, as if shaking off unnecessary thoughts, and approached Tae-yul.
“Do you like it?”
Tae-yul nodded his head vigorously and pressed the doll’s head down. As if saying, “The doll likes it too.”
“Does that mean you like your friend too?”
This time, Jaehoon could read Tae-yul’s mind. He stroked his son’s head and led him to the dining chair.
As soon as Tae-yul was seated, Mrs. Kim and Park, the housekeeper, brought dinner. After setting the table nicely and leaving, Tae-yul stared intently at the door they had exited.
Seo-yeon, who had been watching Tae-yul, suddenly called out to the two of them in a loud voice.
“Mrs. Kim, Housekeeper Park. Just a moment.”
Tae-yul nodded his head towards the two who quickly came back inside. He seemed to want to say thank you.
“…Enjoy your meal, young master.”
Mrs. Kim said in a gentle voice, seemingly touched.
“If you want more, blow the whistle over there. Mr. Kim gave it to us in case you might need it,”
Housekeeper Park added, explaining about the whistle in a subdued voice.
“Thank you.”
Seo-yeon replied with a smile to the two who were leaving the room again.
“The whistle seems like a good idea.”
“I agree. I feel a little relieved.”
Seo-yeon showed the whistle to Tae-yul and said,
“Tae-yul, if Mom or Dad can’t hear you, blow this like this.”
She blew the whistle briefly.
“You blow it. Wanna try?”
His dark eyes sparkled with curiosity, and he reached out and took the whistle. Tae-yul immediately brought it to his mouth and blew. The whistle, not blown with full force, made a cooing sound like a pigeon.
“You have to blow it hard.”
Jaehoon gestured for him to blow it again. Tae-yul blew the whistle, straining his face as if taking a breath. Only then did the whistle sound loudly inside the terrace.
Tae-yul looked at the whistle with a surprised face and widened his eyes. Seo-yeon clapped her hands and praised him.
“Good job. Our son is so cool. With this sound, we’ll be able to hear you even if we’re over there. We’ll always run to you when you call. Don’t worry.”
Strangely, Seo-yeon, who had to hold back tears at every word, smiled more than she cried as she saw Tae-yul improving.
“Let’s eat, Tae-yul. Today, the housekeeper made braised short ribs for Tae-yul. Sounds delicious, right?”
Tae-yul, who had been staring blankly at the braised short ribs Seo-yeon offered, smacked his lips and nodded slightly. Judging by the way his gaze was fixed on the ribs, he seemed eager to eat them quickly.
“Give it here.”
Jaehoon reached out his hand. Seo-yeon hesitated for a moment but pushed the braised ribs towards him. Only then did she remember that he used to cut the food he would eat for her.
A wave of longing washed over her. Wherever they went, Jaehoon always considered Seo-yeon first, and like now, he would cut the meat during meals.
Yet, Jaehoon didn’t know that it was love. Even though his actions towards her could only be explained by love, he habitually said, “Me, in love? I’m not the type for that.”
But Seo-yeon was gradually drawn to such a Jaehoon and fell in love. Jaehoon was such a caring and sincere man.
Seo-yeon watched Jaehoon put the neatly cut ribs on Tae-yul’s plate and put a piece in his mouth. His lips curved upward softly, as if he was happy to see him eating well.
“He eats well.”
As he muttered softly and cut the ribs again, Seo-yeon quickly said,
“Jaehoon, you eat too now.”
“It’s what I always did.”
He said it bluntly, but she knew that Jaehoon was also remembering the times he had eaten with Seo-yeon.
“You didn’t like steak, but you liked spicy pork.”
“You ate it well later on, too.”
“Did I… Let’s stop talking about that and you eat too.”
Jaehoon replaced Seo-yeon’s plate and looked up. His dark eyes held many emotions, but Seo-yeon couldn’t read his mind. She gave a faint smile and picked up her fork.
“How was it today?”
“We played well. He keeps nodding, and when he has something to say, he stares intently, so my head is so busy.”
Seo-yeon said jokingly. It hurt her that Jaehoon didn’t want to think about the past, but she understood him. Only now, facing him, was she okay with remembering the past; before, she couldn’t breathe just thinking about it.
‘Are you still hurting?’
She quietly repeated the words she wanted to ask him in her mind.
“You’re doing well. I don’t know even half of that. But I’ll watch diligently. It doesn’t make sense if Dad doesn’t know what his son is saying.”
It made sense to Jaehoon, who grew up in Do-young, but he thought it would be different for Seo-yeon. Seo-yeon used to look at passing children with envious eyes.
If she, with such a warm gaze, didn’t know her child’s heart, she would be upset.
“You’re doing well too. I’m just grateful that Tae-yul is following along so well.”
Jaehoon smiled as he watched Tae-yul, who was eating the ribs on his face. His gaze towards the small child who resembled him held many emotions.
Even while dealing with the backlog of work today, Tae-yul was on his mind. When he went to declare war on Mi-ryung, he felt anger, getting excited in advance over something that hadn’t happened.
At the sight of the two of them claiming the rights of grandparents to his child and giving him heir lessons.
It was the first time he, who had always led Do-young with cold reason, had been excited by something that hadn’t happened. All unfamiliar emotions. Jaehoon admitted that the emotion was ultimately denial as he returned home.
He didn’t know how fortunate that was. It was an emotion that Chairman Han didn’t have. He thought for the first time that he, who didn’t resemble his father, was a decent guy.
After that, the dinner time, filled with the nods of the two and Tae-yul, flowed peacefully. No one would have seen them as separated lovers who had barely found their long-lost child.
Like a family that had been together from the beginning, they looked at each other and ate.
Perhaps because he hadn’t been active enough, Tae-yul, who had been running around excitedly in the garden, began to doze off near the end of dinner.
“He’s falling asleep.”
Seo-yeon whispered, looking at Tae-yul, who was struggling to lift his eyelids, which were heavy with sleep, while holding his spoon tightly.
“Does he fall asleep while eating too?”
Jaehoon seemed not to believe it, even after seeing Tae-yul occasionally chewing, still with food in his mouth.
“I guess so. Can we just put him to sleep?”
Seo-yeon looked at Jaehoon, hiding her flustered feelings.
“Are you asking me?”
Jaehoon’s dark eyes looked back and forth between Seo-yeon and the sleeping Tae-yul, flustered.
“Ah, you don’t know either. You’re both so silly.”
Seo-yeon laughed at the sight of the novice parents being flustered. She took the spoon from Tae-yul’s hand and carefully picked him up. His limp body seemed to be completely asleep.
“Didn’t he eat just a little while ago? What happens if there’s food in his mouth? He could choke in his sleep.”
“We have to take it out. What if he cries?”
The two looked at each other, unable to shake off their worries.
“I should ask Mrs. Kim.”
Seo-yeon and Jaehoon came out of the terrace with Tae-yul. Seo-yeon, who met Mrs. Kim on the way to the room, showed her the sleeping Tae-yul.
“He must have been tired.”
“Does he fall asleep like this too?”
Jaehoon asked Mrs. Kim. His concern was only that the food in his mouth might block his airway.
“Of course. He falls asleep while eating, playing, and even in the bathroom.”
“There’s food in his mouth, so I was thinking of calling Jae-moon.”
“You don’t have to do that. There’s a finger toothbrush; it’s originally for younger children, but since he’s asleep, you can use that to brush his teeth.”
“There’s such a thing?”
Only then did Jaehoon turn to Seo-yeon. She didn’t dislike Jaehoon’s flustered appearance. She could tell how sincere he was about Tae-yul. Seo-yeon smiled as if to reassure him.
“Do you want to go and put Tae-yul to sleep together?”
“I…”
Jaehoon paused for a moment, then opened his mouth again.
“I’ll wait in the study. Please have Mrs. Kim stay with him after Tae-yul falls asleep.”
Jaehoon lightly touched the sleeping Tae-yul’s hair as if the wind was blowing, then left the place.
“It’s the first time I’ve seen the vice president like that. He’s always been so cold.”
“Actually, I was really surprised too. I was just blinking, wondering if the two of them could be so silly.”
Seo-yeon smiled and recalled his words to meet in the study as she returned to the room with Mrs. Kim. She was nervous about what Jaehoon would say.
He had said with his own mouth that they should become a couple, so he wasn’t the type to go back on his word. Then something must have happened in Do-young. Seo-yeon steeled her heart and went to put Tae-yul to sleep.
