Perfect Possession - Episode 21
“What’s that?”
As Jaehoon approached, Seo-yeon unconsciously took a step back.
“Don’t do that, it pisses me off.”
Seo-yeon silently watched Jaehoon as he roughly swept back his fallen hair and shouted.
“You keep stepping back every time I come closer. I’m telling you not to do that, it pisses me off.”
She hadn’t realized Jaehoon was thinking that way.
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t say you’re sorry either.”
“Can’t you just listen to what I say?”
“Listen to what you say?”
Jaehoon genuinely didn’t understand what she meant.
“I didn’t even realize I was stepping back. I said sorry because I thought I would feel bad if I were you. If you tell me not to do everything like that it becomes difficult for me to even talk in front of you.”
Seo-yeon spoke honestly. This time, he seemed to understand and listened without a word. Seo-yeon realized that Jaehoon was waiting for her to speak.
“Tell me if you’ll let me stay by Tae-yul’s side. If it’s hard for me to be in this house, I’ll get a place nearby. I can commute.”
It was her honest truth. Seo-yeon stared at Jaehoon’s face without even breathing. Slowly, a self-deprecating smile formed on his lips. When his dark eyes turned to look at her, her breath completely stopped.
“Do you think I would let you stay in another house? I really want to hear the answer to that. Are you asking because you think I would do that, or are you just asking whatever comes to mind?”
When she was with him, her emotions always took precedence over reason. That time, when she was wondering if she could say these words, was only before they confirmed each other’s desires. After that, Seo-yeon was always honest with Jaehoon.
He seemed charismatic and ruthless, but he was always a warm man to Seo-yeon. That’s why she ended up saying what was in her heart in front of Jaehoon.
He didn’t dislike that either. He was comfortable with the fact that she didn’t try to look good in front of him like other women.
“No. I know that if you were going to let me stay by Tae-yul’s side, you wouldn’t let me commute from another place.”
Seo-yeon spoke honestly.
“So, you’re testing me?”
Feeling sorry, Seo-yeon’s eyes welled up with tears and became clear. She glanced once towards the room where Tae-yul was sleeping and then turned her gaze back to Jaehoon. Seo-yeon knew best that she had to be honest.
“Like before, it’s still not easy for me to speak comfortably. So, I said things I didn’t mean, but I wasn’t testing you.”
Jaehoon felt that she was telling the truth. The two of them had always been honest with each other throughout their relationship, so honest that they didn’t question each other’s actions.
When Jaehoon heard Seo-yeon’s voice, he thought it was undoubtedly sincere and despaired. That might be why his possessiveness towards her surged even more.
Because he was uncontrollably angry at Seo-yeon for telling him her true feelings like that.
Jaehoon said in a quiet but firm voice.
“What I want is not Tae-yul’s nanny. I plan to carefully choose a professional for the nanny. What I want from you is, a mother and my wife.”
Seo-yeon was looking at Jaehoon, and even though she heard every word he said without missing a single one, the word ‘wife’ sounded unfamiliar, as if she was hearing it for the first time.
That was because Jaehoon had never been interested in marriage, even while they were together. Seo-yeon thought in her head, ‘Is he proposing?’ but her heart was whispering that it was definitely not.
She tilted her head and asked.
“Wife… what do you mean?”
“Just what it says. A wife who is perfect in every way. A wife who sleeps by my side until I die, wakes up with me in the morning, and watches Tae-yul grow up. If you can’t do that, you’ll have to leave this house when Tae-yul’s psychological treatment is over.”
Seo-yeon slowly repeated the words ‘sleep by my side and wake up’ until she died. She couldn’t answer anything without knowing the exact meaning of those words.
Her whole body was trembling so much that she couldn’t help it. Seo-yeon’s heart was beating so hard that it hurt, with a glimmer of hope that she could start over with him.
“Becoming a wife, does that mean a normal married life, like a normal couple?”
Jaehoon took a step closer to her, seeing her small shoulders trembling slightly.
“I want your body and soul to be mine. I can’t even guess what a normal married life is, but I’ll hold you whenever I want. If you were thinking of a show window couple without sex, forget it.”
Seo-yeon quietly stared at Jaehoon even as he cupped her chin and lifted it up.
“I have no intention of holding any woman other than you for the rest of my life. Of course, you have to be the same. This is the only way you can stay by Tae-yul’s side.”
“If my heart becomes yours, can your heart become mine?”
She hadn’t intended to ask such a thing. Only questions like, ‘Am I okay for you?’ and ‘Are you really confident that you won’t look at any other woman besides me?’ filled her head.
But Seo-yeon was startled by the words that flowed from her mouth.
His dark eyes rippled and sank deeply. Seo-yeon could hear Jaehoon swallow his breath.
“What do you mean?”
The truth, ‘Give me your heart too,’ only lingered in her mouth and didn’t come out.
If she had heard these same words from Jaehoon before Tae-yul was born, Seo-yeon would have asked for his heart without hesitation.
But the incident of losing Tae-yul had become a shackle for her. Because of that incident, Jaehoon had almost lost his son.
He had said that he would only think about Tae-yul, so he would no longer blame and torment Seo-yeon. That’s why she felt even more sorry.
Seo-yeon closed her eyes as the hand that had been holding her chin wrapped around her neck. His body, which had come close, touched her chest. She fluttered her long eyelashes and lifted her eyes.
His unmoving black eyes were staring straight at her.
She had felt Jaehoon’s subtle touch and the firm muscles pressing against her chest so clearly that she mustered the courage to open her eyes. But she regretted it, wishing she had just kept her eyes closed, because of his intense gaze.
“I asked what you meant.”
“Can you control your heart?”
“So?”
“I hated you. Because I thought you had thrown money at me and left as if getting rid of a troublesome object without saying a word.”
Seo-yeon took a slow breath to gather her courage.
“When I found out I was pregnant with Tae-yul, I was partly happy that I wasn’t over with you yet, rather than despairing that I was pregnant with the child of the man who had left me. I thought I could see you again because I had a child.”
“Does that answer my question?”
“It should be enough. Then or now, no, before I thought you had left, my heart hasn’t changed.”
Jaehoon narrowed his eyes and looked at Seo-yeon. He quickly thought about what she had just said. But he felt like he would interpret it however he wanted if he didn’t hear it directly from Seo-yeon’s mouth.
Jaehoon moved away, intending to calm down the desire that had surged due to Seo-yeon’s body temperature, even a little.
“Tell me. What’s enough?”
“Back then, I was only thinking about you. That heart is still with you.”
Seo-yeon reached out and placed her hand on his chest as much as the distance had widened.
“So, give me this too. That’s only fair.”
Finally, Seo-yeon spoke. She revealed her true feelings that she couldn’t become a couple without his heart.
Seo-yeon, who had been staring at Jaehoon, wondering what he would say, let out a short scream without realizing it when her wrist was grabbed and she was hugged to his chest.
Seo-yeon, who was hugged so tightly in Jaehoon’s arms that her back was bent in an instant, watched his lips curve upwards from right in front of her.
“Give me your heart? I can take that to mean it’s your confession.”
“…….”
Seo-yeon had liked the way he smiled with his lips slightly raised. At those times, fine wrinkles formed on his forehead, highlighting his masculine charm and making her feel so much that her whole body would flinch.
After they made love, Seo-yeon would often ask to see that smile because she liked it. Every time, Jaehoon would tease Seo-yeon, saying, ‘If I smile without my heart, that charm is fake. So, you make me smile.’
Seo-yeon looked at the smile she had wanted to see so much. Her heart trembled, and her breath loosened. She was quickly collapsing at that smile, as if her heart would stop beating like this.
“I’ve always been honest with you. Only you were always so calm.”
A whisper, as if she didn’t know if she was speaking or just moving her lips, flowed from her mouth.
“Calm? Where was I calm? I only played with you so much that I didn’t even care about work. If you want to take my heart, make me spit it out like your confession just now, Min Seo-yeon.”
“You would never make a confession like that.”
Unlike his actions, Jaehoon didn’t even say the words ‘I like you’ out loud. Seo-yeon was initially disappointed, but as she learned about Do-young, she gradually understood him.
She realized that the environment Jaehoon grew up in was not one that allowed him to be honest about emotions like ‘I like you, I love you.’ She also realized that in Do-young, such emotions became a person’s weakness.
The reason she had been able to meet Jaehoon for over a year was because he hadn’t revealed his feelings for her anywhere.
If Jaehoon had revealed that he was meeting Seo-yeon, Do-young wouldn’t have left them alone for a year.
“Now tell me. Will you accept my lifetime contract or not?”
