- Chapter 39 - Lace or Leopard Print
“You’re still into AA love? I’ve never noticed all these years. You hid it well. No wonder everyone calls you the Imperial Capital’s Ice Queen—no one could ever pick you. Turns out you’re into this kind of thing. It’s certainly niche.”
Ji Rongyu wanted to deny it, but Xu Wanxing’s image suddenly flashed through his mind. He nodded, admitting it, and looked at his friend’s teasing eyes.
“Pei Yu, don’t worry. I’m not interested in guys like you.”
He liked someone like Xu Wanxing—pure, pitiful, a veritable strong, poor Alpha, like a white lotus flower.
The kind of Cinderella-type female lead often found in novels and TV dramas.
Pure, beautiful, strong, and hardworking.
That’s just what he liked.
Pei Yu twitched his mouth and waved his hand. “Alright, go on your date. I’m heading up.”
As Pei Yu returned to the dorm, he bumped into someone and caught a whiff of fragrance. He turned his head and saw Xu Wanxing.
Xu Wanxing was wearing a dress that had a distinct beach holiday vibe. The dress was multi-colored—red, yellow, green, pink—a mix of various vibrant hues. Yet, this bright and bold chaos made Xu Wanxing look pure and stunning.
“Xu Wanxing,” Pei Yu called out abruptly.
Xu Wanxing stopped and looked at Pei Yu in confusion. “What is it?”
“Who are you dressed up like this to see?”
Pei Yu knew he had no right to ask, but his anger and jealousy surged uncontrollably.
When fury rises, a man’s reason vanishes.
He turned into a vinegar jar.
Xu Wanxing said, “I’m meeting my partner. Gotta go, he’s already at the school gate. Bye.”
Partner? A word so sweet, yet so jealousy-inducing.
Pei Yu thought sourly, Xu Wanxing was going to meet that man who came to their dorm last time. What was his name? Shen Yuxuan, right?
Seriously, his good friend Ji Rongyu, who was a lone wolf, had a date—an Alpha—and now his Omega roommate was going out to meet his partner.
It made him sour and jealous. It didn’t help that he harbored some unusual feelings for his Omega roommate. He couldn’t stand it.
They say the near guest first catches the moon. How could he become Xu Wanxing’s roommate and still not capture the moon?
Who was Shen Yuxuan to deserve this?
Downstairs at the dorm building.
Ji Rongyu saw Xu Wanxing in the bright dress and almost didn’t recognize her. Was this the pure, white lotus-like Xu Wanxing?
Is she dressed like this to catch my attention?
Ji Rongyu stepped forward and greeted her, “Xu Wanxing, I’m over here.”
Xu Wanxing nodded, smiled, and walked in the opposite direction.
Ji Rongyu: Huh? Is my eyesight bad? Did she not see me here and walk the wrong way?
Ji Rongyu took a few steps and blocked Xu Wanxing’s path. “Let’s go. To our date.”
He was being so proactive; Xu Wanxing should understand what he meant.
Xu Wanxing looked at the person in front of him in confusion. The dorm building was very close to the school gate; he could already see Lu Yanbai. Why was Ji Rongyu blocking him now?
“Excuse me, you’re blocking me. Please move aside. Thank you.”
Ji Rongyu’s body stiffened. Xu Wanxing walked past him and waved toward the familiar figure at the school gate.
“Hubby, I’m here!”
His voice was filled with delight.
Ji Rongyu stood rooted to the spot, watching Xu Wanxing, dressed like a beautiful butterfly, walk out the school gate and embrace that man.
In an instant, Ji Rongyu’s eyes reddened.
He had never imagined that the only person he was genuinely kind to would throw himself into another man’s arms right in front of him. Was this revenge because he hadn’t accepted his confession?
He had failed utterly.
Why did that man deserve Xu Wanxing’s affection?
Was he more handsome than him? Richer than him? Had a better physique than him? Was he smarter than him? It didn’t seem so.
Zhou Wei had the same problem.
Zhou Wei’s eyes were red as he looked at Xu Wanxing’s now empty bed.
Why did Ji Rongyu deserve Xu Wanxing’s affection?
Was he more handsome than him? Richer than him? Had a better physique than him? Was he smarter than him? Alright, Ji Rongyu really was better than him in every way.
He wasn’t worthy.
Zhou Wei sobbed and collapsed onto his desk, crying.
The dorm leader, Cheng Yang, sighed. This was the consequence of loving someone you shouldn’t.
On the other side, at the school gate.
Lu Yanbai embraced the person in his arms. The feeling in his hands was softer than before. It seemed the feeding had been successful lately; Xu Wanxing had gained some weight.
But he still thought Xu Wanxing was too thin and needed more feeding, ideally until he felt soft and pliant in his arms.
“Hubby, let’s go eat.” Xu Wanxing grabbed Lu Yanbai’s hand and shook it. Another free dinner! Awesome!
Who says you can’t get something for nothing? See? His hubby was showering him with free dinners.
The luxurious kind, too.
Sitting in the car, Lu Yanbai looked at Xu Wanxing in the passenger seat, his eyes gradually changing.
“Baby, didn’t I ask you to wear the clothes I bought you?”
Xu Wanxing tugged at the skirt, showing Lu Yanbai, his face flushed slightly. “I am wearing them! Not only is the skirt one you bought, but what I’m wearing underneath is also something you bought.”
Lu Yanbai’s eyes instantly darkened. His gaze swept repeatedly over Xu Wanxing’s waist and hips.
His rich voice became slightly hoarse and suggestive. “Which one are you wearing, baby?”
Xu Wanxing looked at Lu Yanbai cautiously. “Why are you asking about that the moment we get in? I’m not telling you, it’s a secret.”
Lu Yanbai’s heart was itching. He no longer cared that the dress Xu Wanxing was wearing was not one he had purchased. All he could think about was what Xu Wanxing was wearing today.
“Lace?”
Xu Wanxing shook his head.
“Leopard print?”
Xu Wanxing lightly hit Lu Yanbai. “Don’t try to fool me; you didn’t buy any leopard print! Let’s go eat, I’m starving.”
Lu Yanbai didn’t continue guessing.
When the car stopped at a traffic light, Lu Yanbai watched the seconds tick down on the red light and suddenly spoke, “Lin Yao bought this dress for you, didn’t he?”
Xu Wanxing was startled. Lu Yanbai’s sentence wasn’t even a question; it was a statement.
Was this dress bought by Lin Yao? He wasn’t sure. He had just thrown all those bags together and couldn’t distinguish which item was bought by whom.
He thought Lu Yanbai bought him so many clothes that he wouldn’t be able to tell which ones were his.
He didn’t expect him to figure it out.
Xu Wanxing quietly asked, “How did you know?”
Lu Yanbai chuckled. “Of course I know. I keep track of every single piece of clothing I buy for you, baby. You don’t mean to say you don’t know which ones I bought, do you?”
Xu Wanxing: Here it comes! The deadly question!
He needed an emergency dodge!
“Of course I know, Hubby. This was actually a test for you. You figured it out so quickly! You truly are my dearest husband, so concerned about me.”
Xu Wanxing knew his reply was a bit cheesy, but he had no choice. He was damned if he did, and damned if he didn’t. He might as well be cheesy and act spoiled.
Then he could observe Lu Yanbai’s reaction.
