- Over The Top! He Keeps Making the Gold-Digging Alpha Cry
- Chapter 120 - It's Happiest When Someone Cares
Xu Wanxing dared not look at all. He faced away, listening to the commotion behind him, constantly hearing the doctor’s sound of hammering the steel pin.
It sounded like blacksmithing.
Normally, he would compliment the doctor’s great strength, but now he found it terrifying.
It wasn’t blacksmithing; this thing was being hammered forcefully into a person’s bone.
The sound was grating and bone-jarring.
Xu Wanxing could faintly smell the scent of blood in the air, coming from behind. A voice in his heart kept urging him to turn and see how Lu Yanbai’s leg actually was.
But he was too afraid.
Lu Yanbai lay half-submerged on the bed, listening to the constant hammering near his ear, his expression so calm as if the leg didn’t belong to him.
The doctor couldn’t help but grumble inwardly. This person is really strange. I’m hitting it this hard, yet he doesn’t cry out in pain at all. You know, because conditions are harsh here, I only administered a small amount of anesthetic.
If he wasn’t in pain, I wouldn’t have bothered, and I could have saved the anesthetic for someone else.
Finally, Xu Wanxing overcame his fear and turned to look at Lu Yanbai.
Upon seeing the blurry mass of flesh and blood, Xu Wanxing quickly averted his eyes. He shivered and walked to Lu Yanbai’s side to comfort him: “Hubby, don’t be afraid. I’m here with you. Does it hurt very much?”
He started off fine, but by the last sentence, Xu Wanxing’s voice was already choked with sobs.
The doctor looked up, ready to watch the drama unfold. He wanted to see Xu Wanxing’s expression.
The patient’s expression was too calm; no pain was discernible on his face.
Would his lover be frightened seeing him so composed?
But all the doctor’s predictions were wrong.
He saw Lu Yanbai’s face, completely pale, cold sweat beading on his forehead. He semi-closed his eyes weakly, and said in a soft, slow voice: “Baby, I’m fine. My leg just hurts a little.”
“Baby, don’t look. My leg must be very scary. It’s not pretty at all.”
Lu Yanbai’s tone carried a hint of self-deprecation.
Xu Wanxing couldn’t stand to hear Lu Yanbai speak like that. What Omega could bear to be told they weren’t pretty, or stand to have their snow-white, flawless skin lacerated and bloody?
Seeing such a vulnerable Lu Yanbai, Xu Wanxing’s heart almost broke. “No, no, your leg is very beautiful. Hubby, don’t look for now. Everything will be fine once the doctor bandages it up.”
He reached out and covered Lu Yanbai’s eyes.
Xu Wanxing felt Lu Yanbai’s long, soft eyelashes tremble in his palm, tickling his hand. He instinctively flinched his hand back.
Lu Yanbai reached out and pressed down on his hand, his voice very soft and weak: “Baby, don’t go. Stay like this, okay? If you stay like this, it won’t hurt.”
Xu Wanxing obediently sat down beside Lu Yanbai, keeping his hand over Lu Yanbai’s eyes, and soothingly stroked Lu Yanbai’s hair with his other hand.
In the midst of the sweet atmosphere, one person stood out as particularly awkward.
The doctor, holding the small piece of steel plate in his hand, felt his eyes nearly pop out of their sockets.
This was a complete and utter contradiction, a face-change faster than turning a page in a book. Now he had truly witnessed it.
One moment, his face was calm, as if he felt no pain, and the next, he became frail and beautifully tragic.
Even the masters of face-changing couldn’t switch faster than him.
Xu Wanxing noticed the distracted doctor and urged him: “Hurry up! Look how much pain he’s in. Why don’t you give him more anesthetic?”
The doctor subconsciously sped up his actions. Was it that he didn’t want to give more? This person had stopped him from administering any more after the initial small dose!
It truly is happiest when someone cares. He needed to hurry up and finish so he could go back and seek comfort from his wife.
The doctor finished stitching, put a plaster cast on Lu Yanbai’s calf, left the medication, instructed Xu Wanxing on various precautions, and then hastily ran off with his toolbox.
It was as if a tiger was chasing him.
Xu Wanxing held the medicine, but before he could even offer thanks, the doctor was out of sight.
Lu Yanbai looked at the medicine filling Xu Wanxing’s arms, leaving no room for him. He leaned back on the bed and said in a weak voice: “Baby, can you hug me? My leg hurts a little.”
Xu Wanxing quickly put the medicine aside, rushed to Lu Yanbai’s side, hugged him, and stroked his hair soothingly: “Does that feel any better? Does it hurt a lot? Do you want me to call the doctor back for another check?”
Lu Yanbai shook his head, buried his face in Xu Wanxing’s warm embrace, and said in a muffled voice.
“No need, Baby. Having you is enough.”
Xu Wanxing’s heart instantly softened. The usually strong and peerless Lu Yanbai suddenly became frail and surprisingly clingy.
This immense contrast made him feel truly needed.
Xu Wanxing continued holding him and eventually drifted off to sleep. When he woke up, the outside world was pitch black, with only the faint light reflected off the snowy ground by the moon.
“Grumble, grumble—”
His stomach was growling.
Xu Wanxing instinctively reached to cover his stomach, but felt a handful of hair.
He looked down and saw Lu Yanbai’s head still buried in his arms, seemingly still asleep.
Xu Wanxing relaxed his strength and gently stroked Lu Yanbai’s hair.
His stomach growled again, this time louder than before, as if madly reminding him to eat.
Aside from a small snack before 4 AM, he hadn’t eaten anything else today.
He had missed lunch and dinner.
He was desperately hungry and couldn’t bear it, not to mention the highly strenuous skiing activity he had experienced today.
And he had caused Lu Yanbai’s injury. After a whole day of shock and fear, he was almost exhausted from hunger.
Xu Wanxing looked at the dark head nestled in his arms, ultimately unable to bring himself to wake him.
Suddenly, the door was pushed open. The dazzling light from the hallway poured in, instantly illuminating half the room, making the faint silver-white outside the window appear dim.
“Xu Wanxing, are you awake? It’s time to eat.” Shen Yuxian stood with his back to the light, his tall figure blocking most of the brightness from the doorway.
Xu Wanxing had just realized the room was brightened, and now it was dimming again. He whispered softly: “Be quiet. Lu Yanbai is still asleep. You guys go ahead and eat.”
Shen Yuxian intended to leave, but the door stopped halfway shut. “Aren’t you hungry after missing two meals? Since he’s not awake, you should get up and eat something first.”
He paused, then added: “He’s not your employer. Why are you starving yourself for him? You need to eat to have strength.”
With that, Shen Yuxian left, leaving the door ajar. He didn’t seem concerned about Xu Wanxing’s plan to eat.
If Xu Wanxing were next to him, he would have noticed that the hand closing the door was red and swollen, with many places chapped and broken.
He didn’t know if it was from the cold, from digging in the snow, or both.
It seemed that he accidentally touched a crack while closing the door. Shen Yuxian gritted his teeth, his expression subtly strained.
Standing under the hallway’s bright lights, he lifted his hand and carefully examined the ugly cracks.
His hands were indeed unattractive.
They were tolerable before, but now they were so mangled they barely looked human.
A rough, red, and ugly hand like this, touching Wanwan’s tender little face, would surely scratch him.
