- Out of Control Overnight: The Irritable Top Alpha Goes Mad Searching for His Wife
- Chapter 17 - Lu Shijun’s Suspicion
After arriving at the office, Shen Qing prepared to head to his workstation. However, as he looked down, he saw Lu Shijun gripping his hand, refusing to let go.
“President Lu?”
The displeasure in Lu Shijun’s expression deepened. He hated it when Shen Qing addressed him that way, yet as long as they were at the company, Shen Qing remained strictly professional.
“You are not going to your workstation.”
Shen Qing’s desk was in the assistants’ office; he only came to the CEO’s office to hand over work. Previously, Lu Shijun had considered moving Shen Qing’s desk next to his own. Unfortunately, before he could implement the plan, Shen Qing had sternly refused, stating that if Lu Shijun insisted, he would resign. Left with no choice, Lu Shijun had backed down.
“You are sick. Go to the lounge and stay there,” Lu Shijun said. Regardless of whether Shen Qing agreed, he pulled him toward the CEO’s office.
Along the way, they encountered other colleagues. Everyone was used to their intimate behavior and greeted them enthusiastically. During the days Shen Assistant was absent, President Lu had been terrifying. Now that Shen Assistant was back, it felt as if their savior had returned.
“Good morning, President Lu! Good morning, Shen Assistant!”
With so many people watching, the thin-skinned Shen Qing did not want to cause a scene. He could only allow himself to be pulled into the CEO’s office under the fervent gaze of the staff.
“Lu Shijun!” Once they were alone, Shen Qing could no longer hold back and called him by his full name.
Lu Shijun listened with satisfaction, a corner of his mouth curving upward. “Shall I lead you to the lounge, or will you go yourself? Never mind, I will take you. It will save you from being disobedient again.”
He forcefully pulled Shen Qing toward the lounge. “Xiao Qing, will you take off your clothes yourself, or should I help you?”
As the words left his mouth, he had already begun to move his hands. Shen Qing reacted like a startled bird; his entire body, down to every strand of hair, was filled with resistance.
“Lu Shijun, what are you doing!”
“I am not, do not take them off!”
Lu Shijun acted as if he were deaf. The weather was turning cold, so Shen Qing was wearing a coat over a thin, high-collared cashmere sweater. Now that the coat had been removed and Lu Shijun was eyeing the sweater, Shen Qing grew frantic. He hugged his clothes tightly, and because his strength was no match for the other man, his eyes grew red from the frustration of being bullied.
“Lu Shijun, if you keep this up, I will get angry!”
“Lu Shijun!”
Lu Shijun let out a soft tsk. He looked down at his friend, whose eyes were red and whose pale cheeks were flushed with a faint, charming pink from anger.
“What is wrong?”
Shen Qing was choked with rage by his indifferent tone. “You have the nerve to ask? I came here to work! Lu Shijun, either let me go home and take my annual leave, or let me go back to my desk and do my job.”
Who went to work only to lie down in the CEO’s lounge?
“Denied,” Lu Shijun said. “Both are denied. I am the boss, you are the employee, and I have the final say.”
Shen Qing’s eyelashes trembled as he tried to argue, but the man standing before him was an Alpha who lacked all reason.
“Now, take off your clothes and lie down on the bed.”
“Oh, you will not let me remove the sweater because the bed is too cold? I understand. I will lie with you for a while, and once the bed is warm, you can sleep.”
“Be good. It is more comfortable to sleep without the sweater.”
Without waiting for Shen Qing’s consent, he began to strip off his own clothes. Shen Qing’s eyes widened.
“No, I have not agreed to this!”
“Lu Shijun, enough!”
However, his words had no effect. In the blink of an eye, a certain someone was completely undressed. Not only that, but he also enthusiastically patted the other half of the bed. “Alright, Xiao Qing, do not be shy. Come here. Your body has not recovered yet; you need more rest and more sleep.”
Shen Qing stood expressionless. He turned around and prepared to walk away. Just as he reached the lounge door, his feet suddenly left the ground.
Shen Qing let out a cry of surprise, scrambling to grab onto something. Finally, he grabbed a handful of Lu Shijun’s hair. With a sharp sting to his scalp, Lu Shijun hissed in pain. He sighed as he held the man, looking like a husband dealing with a disobedient young wife.
“Stop pulling,” he said helplessly. “It will not look good if I go bald.”
Shen Qing’s breath was uneven from the sudden movement. “Then put me down.”
“I will not,” Lu Shijun replied. “If I put you down, you will go back to that pointless job.”
Shen Qing was dropped onto the bed. Seeing that the other man was about to pull at his clothes again, he completely surrendered.
“We will both compromise. I will rest for two hours, and you go back to work.”
Lu Shijun frowned. “What can you do in two hours? You would just be getting sleepy when it is time to get up. You should lie down for at least half a day before resting further.”
Before he could finish, Shen Qing interrupted him. “Then half a day it is. It is settled.”
Lu Shijun looked at the cheeks that had not yet regained their color and felt a pang of heartache. “You cannot do much in half a day either.”
But Shen Qing clearly did not want to argue anymore. If they continued, he feared he would not even get half a day of rest. Lu Shijun had no choice but to agree. “Fine, half a day it is. But you must take off your clothes. Who sleeps in a high collar when they are sick? Is it not uncomfortable?”
Shen Qing was not a good actor. When the high collar was mentioned, his expression flickered visibly.
“It is not uncomfortable.”
Lu Shijun finally sensed that something was wrong. He narrowed his eyes, his gaze becoming searching. He knew Shen Qing so well that even the slightest change would be noticed. Previously, he had been so focused on handling the events of that night that he had overlooked certain details. Now that he thought back, many things were out of place.
Why was Qingqing so protective of this garment? Was the clothing itself important, or did it hide a secret? No, it was not a problem with the clothes.
For the past two days, Shen Qing had been wearing high collars. He could understand dressing warmly while sick, but why specifically high collars? Why was he unwilling to take it off even while sleeping?
Lu Shijun suppressed his suspicions without showing them. His face remained submissive. “Fine, fine. If you like wearing it, keep it on. I will go out to work first; contact me if you need anything.”
He tucked Shen Qing into the blankets and carefully smoothed them over before leaving. However, the moment he closed the door, his expression changed instantly.
Upon returning to his desk, Lu Shijun immediately contacted the other assistants.
“Compile Shen Assistant’s movements for the past two days, no, for the entire month.”
The assistant was momentarily stunned by the sudden task, but as a professional, they responded immediately. “Yes, President Lu. Are there any other instructions?”
Lu Shijun’s expression was gloomy. His best friend was definitely keeping something from him, yet he refused to speak. What could be so important that he would not even tell him?
The more he thought about it, the more irritable he became. His hand gripped the receiver so tightly he looked as if he wanted to crush it.
“I want to see the report on his movements within the hour.”
