Our Summer Isn't Over Yet - Chapter 51
Mia was sick of her own voice, which was sickeningly soft even when she was filled with rage.
“Mia, you’re talking about the woman you killed, aren’t you?”
Jose savored her voice, closing his eyes as if it were intoxicating. But only for a moment, before a deep furrow appeared between his brows.
Jose gripped Mia’s neck even harder.
“Keuk.”
Ignoring her struggling, Jose touched Mia’s body all over.
The places where Jose had painstakingly left scars.
“Ha. Don’t tell me you were trying to ease your guilt by sucking up to someone who looked like her?”
Whack.
Jose grabbed Mia’s side with his hand. The disgusting warmth felt through the thin fabric gave her the illusion that the healed wound had reopened.
“Goodness, you have no conscience.”
Mia’s face turned red as she reached her limit. Only when she was almost unconscious did Jose’s hand loosen its grip.
Mia gasped for breath.
“Well, enough of this disgusting talk.”
Jose grabbed her unfocused cheeks and forced her to meet his gaze. Blood continued to flow from her already torn lips.
Jose smacked his lips as if he had seen something delicious, but Mia could only wriggle her body slightly.
‘Am I having a terrible nightmare?’
Was I crazy from the start? Had I never escaped Jose, and was my deal with Dylan to retrieve my parents’ remains all a delusion?
Jose’s face came closer and closer. His pupils, slick with desire, were fixed on Mia’s lips. Only when he was right in front of her did Mia barely regain her senses and flail her limbs wildly to shake him off.
But she didn’t have nearly enough strength.
Both arms were caught in his one hand and lifted up. Jose pinned Mia against the wall and grabbed her cheeks again to hold them in place.
“Heueu.”
And Jose came closer to Mia. There was no escape for her, her whole body bound.
“How long I’ve waited to have this. I hope you didn’t give your body to that damn bastard.”
His hot breath was chilling. The tongue visible between Jose’s lips was horrifying. As he tilted his face, Mia bit down hard on Jose’s nose as he approached.
“Keuk!”
He screamed, the intense pain making him grab Mia’s shoulder and slam her hard against the wall, pushing her away.
Jose, grinding his teeth, realized that his nose was bleeding. He looked at his palm and let out a hollow laugh before turning back with a cold face and quickly raising his hand.
Then, without hesitation, he slapped Mia across the cheek.
Her body, which was not leaning on anything, staggered sideways and fell.
“Ah!”
Her mouth felt like it was completely torn, and everything that flowed from her parted lips was red.
“Haa. How nice it would have been if you had just obeyed when I told you to be nice.”
She couldn’t hear him well.
Her body was out of control, trembling, and her vision was blurry.
“It seems like you’ve forgotten everything I taught you before, so I’ll have to teach you myself.”
Jose squatted down in front of Mia, who had fallen over, and poked the scarred area hard. At the same time, he kept whispering, bringing back memories she had forgotten.
The strength gradually left Mia’s hand, which had been clutching the dirt tightly. Her pupils were so dark that they looked almost black. Contempt for the other person disappeared, leaving only fear.
Jose noticed this and burst out laughing, his mouth splitting wide.
“What’s with that pretty face?”
Unable to control his laughter, Jose rubbed Mia’s reddened cheeks. It was a chillingly slow, viscous touch.
“This wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t been rebellious. Huh?”
He forcibly grabbed Mia’s stiff hand and pulled her up.
Jose straightened her up and dusted off her clothes. After a few brushes, he held out his hand to Mia.
“You have to be good from now on. Then I’ll tell you what you want and cherish you forever.”
Mia’s old nightmare smiled and urged her on.
Rejection was not in Jose’s vocabulary. Mia’s pupils were fixed on his palm. Her limp, heavy arm slowly lifted.
Everything was moving so slowly.
The sound of the wind in her ears, the beating of her heart inside her, both seemed to be cut off at any moment, very slowly.
The moment Mia took Jose’s hand, a familiar voice pierced her ears.
“Duchess Richard!”
It was Walter, who had promised to pick her up in the afternoon.
As she turned her heavy head to the side, she saw Walter running towards her. His jet-black hair was no different from Jose’s, but somehow it felt warm.
Before she had a chance to appreciate it, Jose hurriedly pulled Mia away. Mia, her legs weak, followed Jose precariously without resisting.
“Damn it, I told him it would take a long time.”
Jose cursed, saying that time was running out. She could have sat down and stopped walking, but Mia didn’t. Because of the words Jose kept throwing out.
“I’m telling you, what happened to your family is a trap, a very solid one.”
“Heueu.”
“And Mia, you can’t escape that trap. Whether you live or die, I’ll follow you.”
Blood flowed from her parted lips. So much that it soaked her chin and clothes.
Before long, an unfamiliar car stopped in front of them.
Just as Jose was about to get into the car in a hurry, the guards Morgan had assigned appeared, panting.
The guards quickly surrounded the car.
“…How already.”
Jose’s voice was full of embarrassment, as if he had never imagined they would appear here.
“Release Duchess Richard immediately and surrender.”
Jose’s hand holding Mia loosened. Mia, who had collapsed to the ground, blinked blankly, her hands on the floor. At the same time as she felt relieved to be free from Jose, her eyelids kept falling heavily.
She heard hurried footsteps from behind. The sound that had been far away seemed to be getting closer, and then Jose was pinned to the ground.
While Jose was struggling not to be caught, Mia was still sitting down.
“M-! Duchess Richard.”
Then Walter, who had rushed over, looked at Mia.
Walter frowned at her disheveled appearance and quickly scanned the royal army around him. There was no time to ask why Morgan’s people were here. Walter called the captain who seemed to be in charge and immediately gave him an order.
“Your Majesty the Marquis!”
“I’ll use that car.”
“Are you driving yourself?”
“Yes, get it ready in a minute.”
“J-Just a moment, please!”
Walter knelt on the floor and leaned Mia against him. His face showed no sign of brightening.
“You’ll be treated as soon as we get to the official residence. Just wait a little longer.”
Even in the midst of all this, Jose’s screams filled the air. Then she heard the voices of noble ladies approaching.
“Someone was caught causing a riot with a weapon nearby.”
“He was caught, but shouldn’t we hurry up and get out of here?”
“Where on earth did Duchess Richard go? Kyaa!”
It became even more chaotic. One of the noble ladies who had come to look for Mia screamed, and the sound drew even more people.
Those who had arrested Jose hurriedly covered his face, but many people had already seen his face.
“Isn’t that Murad royalty?”
“Did he come all the way to the capital to cause this mess?”
“Isn’t that Duchess Richard lying there?”
“Oh my, oh my! What should we do!”
Walter clicked his tongue once he understood the situation and picked up Mia. Then he laid her down in the back seat of the prepared car. He realized that Mia had no stab wounds and let out a faint sigh.
“Your Majesty, it’s ready.”
The captain who started the engine reported to Walter. Walter nodded to him.
“You can focus on cleaning up the situation now.”
“Yes, I understand.”
Walter didn’t even look at the captain’s greeting and took out the handkerchief in his chest pocket and rolled it up. It was a gift from his wife and was only used on special occasions.
Walter brought the handkerchief, which he had cherished, to Mia’s mouth without hesitation. The white handkerchief was stained red with blood.
“Bite down on it until we arrive.”
“Your Majesty.”
Mia called him with difficulty, tilting her head to the side. Her pronunciation was slurred because her mouth was torn.
“Don’t talk, hurry!”
“Your Majesty.”
“Damn it.”
Mia barely looked at Walter with unfocused eyes. His face was paler than ever.
