- Chapter 11 - Often Enthralled by Women
Fu Yunqing must have actually opened her door to check.
Imagining that scene, picturing her stepping out only to find an empty hallway and the sting of disappointment, Yu Yan let out a groan and buried her face in her hands. She regretted it so much. She shouldn’t have toyed with Sister Fu’s feelings like that.
She rolled over and sat up, carefully selecting a “begging for forgiveness” emoji to send over.
Fu Yunqing didn’t seem angry. [Go to sleep.]
Feeling the need to replenish the emotional credit she had just squandered, Yu Yan pressed the voice message button. She pitched her voice soft and sweet, practically cooing: “Goodnight, Sister Fu.”
Fu Yunqing: [Goodnight.]
After that little ordeal, Yu Yan was wide awake again.
But she was still weary. She set her phone down and closed her eyes, eventually drifting off. In the middle of the night, she woke up parched and got up for a drink of water.
She intended to go right back to sleep, but the constant glowing of her phone on the nightstand piqued her curiosity. Sitting back against the headboard, she saw a flood of greetings from her friends back home. After replying to a few, boredom set in, and she started scrolling through her photo gallery.
She had taken so many photos today of scenery, street life, and the like, but scrolling through, none satisfied her quite like the candid shot of Fu Yunqing she’d snapped in the car.
No matter how she looked at it, Fu Yunqing was stunning.
Fu Yunqing was truly wonderful.
Yu Yan rolled over, lying on her stomach as she reminisced about every little detail of the night. On a whim, she curated a nine-photo grid for her WeChat Moments. She placed the photo of Fu Yunqing looking back toward the car window right in the center.
The caption: [First sight of Dublin.]
Then, she was the first to comment on her own post: [My heart and eyes are full of my wife~]

The next day, Yu Yan slept until she woke up naturally.
She squinted at her phone, seeing that she’d slept until 10:00 AM Irish time. There was also a mountain of unread WeChat messages.
Yu Yan sat up and skimmed through them. Because of that late-night post featuring Fu Yunqing’s photo, a lot of people were looking for her.
They generally fell into two groups. One was her circle of party-girl besties, who were absolutely howling over how beautiful Fu Yunqing was. The other group… consisted of people like that “top-tier” senior she had recently rejected.
Yu Yan knew she had a long trail of “romantic debts.” She knew she was a bit of a menace, but what could she do? She loved hanging out with girls both straight friends and those in “the community.” She was terrible at gauging the boundaries of these friendships; she didn’t even know if she actually liked them deep down. All she knew was that she was incredibly happy in their company, often getting “enthralled by women,” and she was well aware that they were being drawn in by her too.
She was a natural at little tricks and flirtatious ambiguity, but whether she wanted to take responsibility was another matter entirely.
A “scumbag girl”. Yu Yan was indeed a bit of a player, and she was self-aware about it. But she couldn’t help it. She was happy in the moment and truly found the temptation of women irresistible.
The people reaching out spanned her entire history: an introverted middle-school classmate she’d once helped, who sent a long, sentimental essay; a high-school top student from the class next door, asking cryptically if she really liked her marriage partner; and then there was that “top-tier” senior she’d turned down to marry Fu Yunqing. The senior mentioned she’d found a great job and, once her probation was over, could earn over 30,000 yuan a month, all of which she’d give to Yu Yan to spend.
What should I do, Sister? I’d love to elope with you, but 30,000 a month really isn’t enough for my spending habits.
Yu Yan didn’t know how to reply yet, so she set those aside. Messages from her best friends, who accepted her unconditionally, were much more relaxing. With them, she could release her true nature without restraint.
Liang Su: [I’ve packed my bags. I’m coming in a few days to see this legendary beauty in person!]
Yu Yan replied: [Deal!]
Shen Rui: [Drooling at the beauty jpg. Hehe jpg. Aaaaah jpg. Heart jpg.]
Yu Yan replied: [Girl, why are you so silly?]
Huo Xixi: [I refuse to accept this. Big Socks (Yu Yan’s nickname), why are you so lucky? Surrounded by beauties… why don’t I have that? It’s not fair! I’m clearly a “sweet girl” too!]
Yu Yan replied: [Because you’re too “I” (introverted). You blush and stutter when women talk to you. To seduce women, you have to be a bit “wild.” I’m not a sweet girl; I’m a wild woman.]
Huo Xixi replied: [Waaaah, Yan-jie, please teach me how to be wild.]
Yu Yan replied: [It’s natural. You can’t learn it~]
Huo Xixi: [You total brat! Gritting teeth jpg.]
Having not seen her friends for a few days, Yu Yan actually missed them.
It was a shame that Lu Yu was still stuck in the mountains tutoring kids and couldn’t fly to Ireland for her “wedding of the century.”
Yu Yan asked her: [When will the squad finally get to see you?]
Lu Yu: [No idea, it’s not certain yet.]
Lu Yu: [Tell you what, after the wedding you can come to the village. Let the Young Mistress experience country life.]
Yu Yan: [I could do that. Make sure you’re there to receive my royal carriage.]
Lu Yu: [Yes, yes, My Lady. I’ll make a whole roasted lamb for you.]

Time flies when you’re on your phone. Before she knew it, half an hour had passed. Yu Lan knocked on the door to wake her up. Yu Yan gave a lazy response and hopped out of bed.
With messy hair and sleepy eyes, she brushed her teeth and washed up. After putting on a bit of makeup and confirming in the mirror that she looked pretty, she messaged Fu Yunqing: [Where are you, Sister? In your room?]
Fu Yunqing: [In the rooftop restaurant.]
Yu Yan: [Got it.]
Yu Yan: [I’m coming! jpg.]
Yu Yan dashed to the rooftop, arriving just in time to see the beauty dining. She quickly grabbed a plate from the buffet and sat across from Fu Yunqing.
Fu Yunqing looked gorgeous today with light, soft makeup, wearing a purple floral French-style cinched dress. Her skin was so pale, her collarbones elegant, and her long hair fell to her waist, glowing with health.
Yu Yan used to claim she was obsessed with Western women, but now, seeing Fu Yunqing among a sea of blonde, blue-eyed diners, she couldn’t even spare a glance for anyone else.
Fu Yunqing had an East Asian face with a distinct, classical charm.
It seems my aesthetic DNA really is rooted in the East.
“Hello, beautiful~”
“Can I sit here?” Yu Yan greeted her with a playful, slightly frivolous air.
Fu Yunqing gave a simple “Mhm,” permitting her “presumption.”
Yu Yan decided to push it. She blinked: “Can I add you on WeChat? You’re so charming and beautiful. Seeing you makes it impossible for my eyes to move on.”
So I practiced. It looked like she’d said that to many “Sisters” before.
Fu Yunqing gave her a flat look and said nothing.
Silence.
She was being ignored.
Is Sister Fu still angry? Yu Yan felt a pang of dismay and began frantically thinking of a way to fix it.
“Sister, don’t ignore me. I know I was wrong. I shouldn’t have lied to you. I’m a jerk.”
Seeing that Fu Yunqing still wasn’t responding, Yu Yan stretched her leg out under the table. She used the tip of her shoe to nudge Fu Yunqing’s calf, then slowly slid it down, gently grazing her ankle. She watched Fu Yunqing’s face for a reaction.
As soon as Fu Yunqing’s brow knit and she finally looked up, Yu Yan snapped her foot back. Acting as if nothing had happened, she changed the subject: “Sister Fu, I have to tell you, I dreamed about you last night.”
Really? Fu Yunqing wasn’t going to believe a “liar” so easily. She set down her fork and knife. “And what did you dream about?”
Her expression said: Let’s see what kind of nonsense you’ve cooked up this time.
What did she dream about? Yu Yan’s talent for making things up was top-tier, and inspiration struck immediately. She said with a smile, “I dreamed we raised a cat together. A little pitch-black thing. She called you ‘Mom’ and called me ‘Sister.'”
Fu Yunqing froze, her eyes dropping to the table.
A cat. Black. Calling her “Mom,” and calling Yu Yan… “Sister.”
