Older Brother - Chapter 6
Bai You turned deathly pale.
Since he had presented, he had lived as an Alpha. No one except his mother knew the truth—it was his greatest, most guarded secret.
But it made sense, looking back.
His mother had been confined to the house her entire life and was in poor health. Besides pleading with her own family, she had no other way to obtain a drug that was strictly prohibited. She had placed her last shred of trust in her own relatives, never imagining that her eldest brother was a complete and utter scoundrel.
His uncle gave Bai You’s frozen face a satisfied pat. “You wouldn’t want this scandal to come to light, would you? So, I’ll leave the matter in your hands.”
It was this single sentence that made Bai You realize something crucial.
For the past few months, the news of Fu Yu searching for a mysterious Omega had caused quite a stir. It was impossible for his uncle not to have heard about it, yet based on his attitude, he clearly didn’t know that Bai You was that Omega. His uncle assumed Bai You had survived the family purge because he was already in some sort of improper relationship with Fu Yu.
He couldn’t let his uncle say the wrong thing to Fu Yu.
Bai You felt as if he were on a roller coaster, his heart plummeting and soaring. Things weren’t much better now; he was balanced on a precarious ledge, where a single, gentle shove could send him into a freefall.
Should I use Fu Yu’s hand. to get rid of him? The thought flickered through Bai You’s mind.
“What are you two talking about?” Fu Yu suddenly appeared behind the uncle, wearing a pleasant smile.
He swept his gaze over them, noting that Bai You looked unwell. Although he had intentionally brought Bai You here to see him get cornered by his mother’s relatives, seeing him actually being bullied made Fu Yu feel a vague, nagging annoyance.
Fu Yu was a very possessive person. If he chose to bully someone, no one else was allowed to touch them.
Facing Fu Yu’s smile, the uncle felt an inexplicable chill. He didn’t dare act as brazenly as before and simply stood there with a forced, silent grin.
Fu Yu looked on with interest. “You seemed to be chatting quite happily just a moment ago. Why stop now that I’ve arrived?”
He reached out casually, pulling Bai You a little closer to his side. He tilted his head at the uncle. “Is there something being said that I’m not allowed to hear?”
This protective gesture confirmed the uncle’s suspicion that the two brothers were involved in a scandalous affair. His gaze turned even more suggestive.
Bai You turned his face away coldly. Fu Yu, confused by the look in the uncle’s eyes, frowned slightly. Once the uncle had scurried away, Fu Yu remarked indifferently, “Stay away from your mother’s side of the family from now on.”
Bai You breathed a secret sigh of relief, though he remained silent.
“What did he say to you?”
Bai You’s mind raced. He intentionally stared at Fu Yu for a long moment before looking away, his long lashes lowering to hide his expression. He spoke slowly. “…It’s nothing to do with you. It’s nothing.”
Naturally, such words only had the opposite effect.
Bai You felt his gland begin to heat up—a bad sign. He shoved the glass of wine he had been forced to hold into Fu Yu’s hand. “I’m drunk. I’m going out for some fresh air.”
Fu Yu narrowed his eyes. Seeing Bai You leave in such a hurry only piqued his curiosity further.
The people from Bai You’s mother’s family were not good people; they were greedy, cowardly, and obsessed with appearances. Fu Yu had dealt with them a few times and had no patience for that leech-like family. Those kinds of people usually set their sights on things—and people they shouldn’t touch.
The more Bai You insisted it had nothing to do with him, the more Fu Yu felt it had everything to do with him.
Fu Yu usually never touched anything handed to him at a gala, even ignoring elders’ toasts. He glanced down at the glass Bai You had shoved at him, drained it in one gulp, and turned to find the uncle.
Seeing Fu Yu coming toward him, the uncle was filled with both excitement and fear. He tried to hide his nerves, assuming Bai You had already made the request. He rambled on with a wide smile before lowering his voice. “Since our family member is already in your hands, that makes us family. I’ll leave this matter to you then, nephew.”
Fu Yu raised an eyebrow. In my hands?
The uncle, thinking Fu Yu was playing dumb, felt a surge of disdain but kept smiling as he swirled his wine. “I know everything.”
Fu Yu’s frown deepened. He didn’t know what game the man was playing, but he feigned understanding, planning to investigate him and his motives later.
After dealing with the uncle, Fu Yu scanned the ballroom. He had no desire to stay. He looked toward the direction Bai You had gone and, after a moment’s thought, decided to find him.
As he walked out through the side door and passed a certain room, his heart suddenly skipped a beat. His blood began to boil, sending a surge of heat through his chest.
He smelled the familiar scent of orchids.
Bai You had realized something was wrong the moment he left the ballroom.
Likely because he had used disguise agents for so many years, his body had developed a resistance. Starting six months ago, the duration of the drug’s effectiveness had become shorter and shorter from six months down to three, then a month, and now just two weeks. It was like a fuse that was burning out.
After a few steps, his pheromones began to stir, leaking out. Bai You knew he wouldn’t make it out of the club. Before the disguise agent failed completely, he pushed open a random lounge, drew the heavy curtains, and quickly pulled a pill from a small box he carried, swallowing it.
The reaction to the medication was violent. The lights felt like they were glaring directly into his eyes, and the world began to warp and sway. The pheromones that had never been truly released barely poked their head out before being forced back into his gland.
He gritted his teeth, his slender neck slick with sweat. He snapped the lights off and leaned against the wall, gasping for air.
Fortunately, Fu Yu was in the ballroom. Everyone was trying to talk to him; he wouldn’t have the time or interest to wander over here.
An Alpha’s sense of smell was incredibly keen. No matter how well-dressed they were in suits, they were essentially violent, bloodthirsty beasts at their core, while Omegas were naturally defenseless, gentle prey.
After the incident in the study, Bai You had started carrying a high-concentration Alpha sedative spray. Even an Alpha with a pheromone level as high as Fu Yu’s wouldn’t be able to withstand it.
As he felt his pheromones slowly receding, the physical pain was tempered by a sense of relief. But then, a footstep echoed from outside.
His sharp intuition told him it was an Alpha. His heart hammered in his chest. The footsteps stopped right in front of the door.
Cold sweat broke out on Bai You’s forehead. Worse still, the sweat only served to amplify the scent of his pheromones.
The Alpha outside the door seemed to taste the Omega’s panic through the leaking scent. He let out a low chuckle. Bai You’s skin crawled as he recognized the voice—it was Fu Yu!
Bai You could barely move. The pheromones that had started to stabilize were suddenly agitated by the Alpha’s deliberate provocation. The orchid scent flared up from his gland, desperate to break free from the constraints of the disguise agent.
There was a knock on the lounge door. It was slow and rhythmic, as if a gentleman were waiting patiently.
When no response came, the Alpha outside didn’t rush him. Only a muffled conversation could be heard and a moment later, the sound of a key turning in the lock.
The worst of the medication’s side effects had passed. Bai You used the wall to pull himself up, his hand shaking as he gripped the sedative spray.
Fu Yu turned the doorknob. Noticing the darkness inside, he paused. He didn’t turn on the light, instead tossing the key back to the terrified manager behind him and closing the door.
Bai You seized the opportunity, intending to knock Fu Yu out before he could adjust to the dark. But Fu Yu’s hearing was unnervingly sharp. He lunged forward and grabbed Bai You’s wrist in a vice-like grip.
The spray clattered to the floor. The Alpha let out a deep, rumbling laugh from his throat. “Caught you.”
This is bad. Bai You’s heart sank. No matter how much he loathed Alphas, the physical gap between an Alpha and an Omega was an objective reality he knew all too well.
Fortunately, Fu Yu seemed in no hurry to turn on the light. He appeared to be enjoying the atmosphere. Holding Bai You’s wrist, he brought it to his nose and inhaled. “The scent on you has faded.”
His other hand moved to Bai You’s chin, leaning in close. His hot breath, tinged with the scent of wine, brushed against Bai You’s neck like a lover’s whisper. “Why are you hiding from me?”
Bai You opened his mouth, trying to keep his voice deep and steady. But then, a sharp pain shot through the back of his neck.
Fu Yu was biting him.
