Older Brother - Chapter 17
30.
Bai You’s muscles tensed instinctively. Faced with the Alpha—who approached with the leisurely, predatory grace of a lion closing in on its prey—he took a slow step back, retreating into the bathroom, his sweat-slicked hand trembling as he reached for the door.
Before he could touch it, the world went dark. Fu Yu’s tall, imposing frame blocked the doorway like a mountain. He looked down, his dark eyes burning with an unnameable, flickering flame. “Is closing the door going to help? Haven’t you noticed, Brother? Your pheromones… they’re overflowing so much the very air feels damp.”
The end of his sentence trailed off into a teasing, suggestive murmur.
Bai You’s eyelashes fluttered. As the Alpha drew closer, the relentless, bone-deep ache of his heat intensified. His glands throbbed, his pheromones screaming at him to throw himself into the man’s arms to let himself be loved roughly, to finally satisfy the void of a desire he had forcibly suppressed for years.
His already clouded mind slipped further into a daze. His thin, pale lips began to tremble. But as Fu Yu’s hand reached out, Bai You caught something beneath the familiar scent of the Alpha: the faint, lingering sweetness of a stranger’s Omega pheromones.
An Omega in heat possesses a terrifying sense of territoriality. The moment he detected the scent of another Omega, a wave of physiological nausea washed over him, jolting him into a sudden, sharp clarity. He moved abruptly, shoving Fu Yu away just as the Alpha leaned in to tilt his chin up for a kiss.
Noticing the undisguised look of disgust on Bai You’s face, Fu Yu’s heart turned cold. His eyes narrowed, and a harsh retort was already on the tip of his tongue when he heard Bai You’s breathless, raspy voice: “You stink. get away from me.”
Fu Yu froze. It took a moment for the realization to sink in: Bai You wasn’t disgusted by him, but by the lingering scents clinging to his clothes.
He looked down and sniffed his sleeve, feeling a mix of innocence and amusement. “Ten or so Omegas going into heat at once. even if I didn’t touch a single one, I’d still come away smelling like them.”
He paused, his mood inexplicably brightening. “And whose fault is it that all those Omegas were riled up in the first place? Now you’re complaining that I smell.”
Bai You covered his nose, glaring at him without a word. However, due to the heat, his eyes were moist and rimmed with red; instead of looking fierce, he looked utterly soul-stirring.
No Alpha could resist their Omega looking at them like that—not even one with a heart of stone.
Fu Yu’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He let out a low chuckle. “Brother, are you acting spoiled?”
This version of him was worlds apart from the dull, invisible persona he used to maintain. He felt vivid and alive, even when he was being “spoiled” with a cold face and a sharp tongue.
He’s actually quite cute, Fu Yu thought.
As the idea took hold, Fu Yu licked his lips. He stared at the rosy lips peeking through Bai You’s fingers, his throat burning with thirst. He wanted to lean in and taste them, but Bai You took another step back, his resistance written in every line of his body.
His voice was thick with suppressed desire. “Get out.”
Fu Yu was generally not a patient man. Ever since he had broken free from the control of old Congressman Bai, his style had become simple and direct; he didn’t believe in wasting time.
Yet, his patience for Bai You was surprisingly deep even to his own shock.
His gaze was like a wolf’s, blunt and predatory, but his actions were surprisingly conciliatory. He raised his hands in a gesture of surrender. “Fine. I’ll take a shower right now and wash the smell off.”
Bai You pressed his lips thin, his mind feeling as though it were being roasted over an open flame. He neither agreed nor refused, simply turning his head and stepping out of the bathroom to give Fu Yu space.
But the moment he tried to pass, Fu Yu’s hand clamped firmly around his wrist.
“Your pheromones are making the air practically drip,” Fu Yu whispered into his ear, his voice laced with amusement. “Can you hold out? Do you want me to give you a bite first—a temporary mark?”
Bai You coldly shook his hand off. His bones felt like they were melting from the high fever, and his strength was negligible, but the Alpha let him go, following his lead.
“Alright,” Fu Yu shrugged. “Then. wait for me ‘obediently’ on the bed. I’ll be out soon.”
He emphasized the word “obediently,” but Bai You’s mind was too chaotic to catch the subtext. He closed his eyes and spat out four words: “Wash yourself thoroughly.”
Those simple words nearly shattered Fu Yu’s facade of casualness.
His throat tightened. He wanted nothing more than to drag Bai You to the bed right then and there.
The bathroom door closed, and the sound of running water filled the room.
Bai You leaned against the cold wall, exhaling a heavy cloud of hot air. He clutched his forehead and bit his tongue hard. The metallic taste of blood and the sharp sting brought a fleeting moment of lucidity to his hazy mind.
Now, escape!
Bai You summoned every ounce of strength he had left and lunged toward the bedroom door.
But under the influence of his heat, a distance that would usually take a few steps felt like an insurmountable canyon. After only a few strides, he was drenched in sweat again, and his knees buckled, nearly sending him to the floor.
His head was buzzing so loudly he didn’t even notice when the sound of the shower stopped.
He finally managed to reach the door, but just as his hand curled around the handle, the Alpha’s voice rang out, cold as ice: “In this state, where exactly do you think you’re going?”
A strong, calloused hand clamped down over his own on the door handle.
Fu Yu’s voice was thick with palpable anger. As he looked down at Bai You’s beautiful face—flushed red, eyes misty with heat—his words became exceptionally cruel: “Do you have any idea how many Alphas are outside? Those low-grade Alphas lose all control the moment they catch the scent of an Omega. A triggered Omega running into a pack of wolves… do you want them to eat you until there’s nothing left but bones?”
