- Chapter 13 - It’s Such a Failure for an Alpha to Let an Omega Frown Like This
Bai You calmly brushed away the hand on his shoulder and shrugged off the jacket before turning around.
The moonlight blended with the brilliant chandeliers of the main hall, reflecting off the Omega’s cheek pale and cold as ice tracing a smooth, elegant curve. “You’re wrong.”
At this proximity, the faint, lingering scent of orchids clinging to the Omega’s clothes was not overpowering, yet it was profoundly refreshing. It was a subtle, intoxicating fragrance, like a flickering candle flame that made it impossible for one to look away and even harder to resist the urge to possess it.
Tang Xu stared at him, his thoughts drifting. “Hmm?”
“I simply don’t like Alphas, period,” Bai You said, his tone flat and indifferent.
Whether they were Alphas, Betas, or Omegas, he loathed the arrogance inherent in all Alphas.
In the light breeze, the Alpha pheromones entangled with the orchid scent surged forward. Even with the master of those pheromones absent, they wrapped around the Omega in a cold, tight embrace, serving as a silent, lethal warning to any approaching predators.
Tang Xu wrinkled his nose in distaste. He turned the words over in his mind and couldn’t help but chuckle, asking with clear implication, “Then what about this?”
He brushed aside the stray hairs at the nape of Bai You’s neck, revealing a slender, snowy stretch of skin marked by a deep set of Alpha teeth. A temporary marking didn’t actually require such a violent bite; as an Alpha himself, Tang Xu immediately recognized the overwhelming possessiveness behind the wound.
An Omega this beautiful should have been his.
Tang Xu clicked his tongue. He reached out with his fingers, intending to rub away the mark that made him so uncomfortable.
Bai You didn’t move away. He kept his head tilted, shooting the man a frigid glance. “If you only came here to discuss this, then you shouldn’t have come at all.”
Tang Xu’s fingertips paused in mid-air. He withdrew the rude gesture and instantly smoothed his features back into a polite, gentlemanly mask. “Why be so guarded against me? Didn’t we have a great relationship back then? I just saw that you looked troubled and wanted to offer my services.”
He leaned down slightly, meeting Bai You’s eyes. “After all, as an Alpha, it’s a total failure to let an Omega frown like this.”
Bai You narrowed his eyes slightly and locked gazes with him for a long moment. Suddenly, the corners of his mouth quirked upward.
When Fu Yu eventually tracked him down, Bai You was leaning back on the swing with his eyes closed, resting.
As if history were repeating itself, another jacket was draped over him.
How annoying. Is this the only move Alphas know?
The Omega turned his head away irritably, not even bothering to open his eyes this time.
Fu Yu, seemingly oblivious to the cold shoulder, stepped around to the front of the swing and knelt. He leaned in for a soft sniff and his expression immediately souled. “Someone was here?”
Bai You kept his eyes shut, his flushed lips moving slightly. “You Alphas really love stating the obvious.”
Fu Yu didn’t get angry. Instead, he reached out to carefully tuck the jacket around Bai You, his voice light and unnervingly sweet. “Oh? And what did the two of you talk about?”
Bai You knew this tone all too well. Usually, when Fu Yu spoke like this, there was a half-dead person kneeling in front of him.
He wasn’t afraid of the violence; however Fu Yu had other methods that were far harder for him to endure.
Bai You’s eyelids fluttered open. He looked down at Fu Yu with a mocking gaze. “Since you brought me here to meet him, you must have checked and known we were acquainted. He just confessed his feelings to me. Are you satisfied?”
Due to the repeated temporary markings, their pheromones were already intimately entwined. Bai You could clearly sense the spike of displeasure in the pheromones Fu Yu was leaking.
Alphas really are all mentally ill.
Bai You continued, “Didn’t you want to give me to him? It looks like your transaction will go very smoothly.”
Fu Yu stared at the pale face before him and let out a long, heavy sigh. “I told you I was joking. How can you hold a grudge for this long?”
A joke? A joke is only a joke if the other person finds it funny.
Bai You fell silent. He stared at Fu Yu’s face for a while before suddenly asking, “Do you hate everyone in this family?”
Fu Yu paused, caught off guard.
“Why did you spare me back then?” Bai You asked softly. “I might have helped you a few times when we were children, but you are clearly an ungrateful wolf. I doubt you even know how to spell the word ‘gratitude.'”
This was a taboo subject. On the surface, Representative Bai had treated Fu Yu exceptionally well, bringing him from a remote galaxy to the Central Star, granting him a noble lifestyle he never would have had otherwise, and supporting his rise in the military.
Yet, the first thing Fu Yu did upon returning from the front lines was personally send his adoptive father—who had been involved in the riots—to death row. He then dismantled the core members of the Bai family and shamelessly took over everything they owned.
It was a disgraceful history, but no one dared mention it to his face.
Fu Yu whispered the word “why” a few times to himself before suddenly breaking into a radiant smile. “Because they were all scum.”
Bai You arched an eyebrow, his eyes clearly saying, And you aren’t?
Fu Yu didn’t take offense. He nodded cheerfully. “I am too. That’s why I won.”
His blunt honesty left Bai You with nothing to say. Bai You opened his mouth to retort, then pressed his lips thin and looked away just in time to spot Tang Xu in the distance.
Their eyes met for a split second before Bai You’s chin was seized and his head was forced back around.
His vision went dark as warm, soft lips pressed against his own. Between the intimate presses of the kiss, Fu Yu murmured with a smile, “Don’t look at him. I’ll get jealous.”
Bai You frowned and tried to push him away with all his might, but the kiss only deepened. He could only manage broken, muffled protests: “Get off me!”
Fu Yu, of course, did not get off. He pulled the Omega’s thin frame tightly into his embrace and whispered a single word: “Brother.”
This time, he truly regretted it.
The moment he had seen Tang Xu approaching Bai You from the terrace, the realization that another Alpha felt possessive toward Bai You. especially seeing that Bai You actually responded to him. it made him want to kill someone.
By the time Bai You was finally released, Tang Xu was nowhere to be seen.
The banquet continued. The sound of music and dancing drifted over from the main hall, separated from the garden by a clear boundary, as if they were two different worlds.
With the smug air of a victor, Fu Yu reached out to wipe the moisture from Bai You’s lips. He smiled and said, “Let’s go. It’s time to go home.”
