Older Brother - Chapter 10
19.
After hanging up the phone, Bai You sat in a daze for a while. Then, with a touch of nervous compulsion, he reopened his belongings to check them one last time.
He didn’t have much to take with him. Everything he needed fit into a single backpack. His new identity was that of a Beta, which wouldn’t draw as much unwanted attention as an Alpha or an Omega.
The following day, he went out alone to visit his mother at the cemetery.
His mother had been a beautiful Omega. Likely due to a life filled with misfortune, even her smiling photograph seemed to carry a hint of resentment and quiet sorrow.
When Bai You was a child, he rarely saw her smile.
Bai You was a man of few words, and he remained largely silent during his visits. He held up a hair accessory he had made against the photo to see how it looked, offering a rare, faint smile. “Mom, I’m leaving. I might not be back for a long time. Please don’t be mad at me.”
The woman in the photo continued to gaze at him with that same smile. Bai You spoke to her for a little while longer, touched the photograph, tucked the accessory away, and headed back to the old family estate.
At the main gate of the estate, he unexpectedly ran into Fu Yu, someone who was rarely seen during daylight hours.
Fu Yu scanned Bai You, noting that he was wearing three layers of clothing today, bundled up tight. He almost let out a laugh. “Where have you been?”
After what had happened the previous night, Bai You felt incredibly uncomfortable just seeing Fu Yu.
He wasn’t sure if it was just his imagination, but those eyes felt like hooks—almost physical in their intensity—as if they were peeling away his clothes layer by layer.
He tilted his head to avoid the gaze, then forced himself to look back, staring at Fu Yu with a flat expression. “Do I really need to report my whereabouts to you?”
Fu Yu spread his hands innocently. “Now, that’s unfair. I’m just offering some friendly brotherly concern. I’m just relieved to see you back, Brother. I was afraid you’d leave and never want to come home.”
Bai You kept a cold face. As they brushed past each other, he thought he heard the faint sound of a chuckle.
As expected, when money is no object, a fake identity can be procured very quickly.
After enduring one more agonizing night, Bai You received word from the black market. They were to meet at the port tonight to exchange the final payment for the documents. Bai You would then be able to board a ship and leave.
Everything was going smoothly so smoothly that it made Bai You feel uneasy.
During dinner, Fu Yu was nowhere to be found. Bai You tentatively questioned the old butler about his whereabouts.
The butler replied with a cheerful smile, “It seems there’s some business over at the Council tonight. The young master has gone there.”
The power dynamics on the Central Planet were divided among three main factions, one of which had always had a major grievance with Fu Yu and was constantly looking for trouble.
If that was the case, Fu Yu shouldn’t be able to extricate himself easily tonight.
Feeling reassured, Bai You waited in his room until the early hours of the morning. He shouldered his backpack, slipped out quietly, and headed for the starport.
The port was still busy at this hour. Upon reaching the meeting point, he found himself surrounded by bustling crowds. Bai You’s tense nerves relaxed slightly. After a short wait, the person he was trading with arrived.
They had only communicated via phone, so this was the first time Bai You had seen him. He took a thick, sealed envelope and lowered his head to open it. “Once I successfully arrive in the Second Galaxy, the final payment will be wired to you through a different account,” he said.
The man didn’t object. “Fine.”
Bai You’s footsteps faltered. He slowly lifted his head. “Who are you?”
People in the black market usually valued money over their lives. This man’s behavior on the phone had made it clear that nothing else mattered but the payment.
Yet, this man had handed over the documents immediately upon meeting and hadn’t even tried to haggle or push back when Bai You mentioned the deferred payment.
In an instant, alarm bells rang in his head.
The man blinked, gave a casual shrug, and pointed to the starship beside them. “I know everyone on this ship. If you try to pull anything funny, I’m one phone call away from turning you into space junk.”
Despite the half-joking threat, Bai You felt a small sense of relief. He carefully inspected his new birth certificate, ID, and other documents. He tucked them away and nodded. “Can I board now?”
The man made a “process” gesture.
Clutching his new identity, Bai You stepped onto the starship.
The outside was a cacophony of noise, but the interior of the ship was eerily silent. He didn’t even see any crew members.
Bai You froze, his heart suddenly dropping.
He closed his eyes for a moment, then looked back at the now-sealed cabin door. Unconsciously, he gripped the document envelope tighter. He walked forward a few steps and, as expected, saw a familiar figure.
“Good evening,” Fu Yu said, turning around with a smile. “It really is a lovely night.”
Even though he knew it was a stupid question, Bai You remained silent for a moment before asking, “Why are you here?”
The old butler wouldn’t lie.
As if reading Bai You’s mind, Fu Yu kept one hand in his pocket and slowly approached. A smile danced in his eyes. “The butler didn’t lie, of course. There was business tonight, but once it was mostly handled, I left it to my subordinates and rushed over.”
“Do you want to know why I hurried here?” Fu Yu leaned down, bringing his face close to Bai You’s, his voice dropping to a whisper. “I came to find an Omega who admires me.”
Bai You: “…”
“Or rather…”
Fu Yu gently straightened Bai You’s slightly messy collar. His movements were as tender as if he were treating a lover. His fingers lingered, brushing against Bai You’s temple, his eyes crinkling.
“As ‘your Alpha,’ how could I not come to see you off? Don’t you agree, Brother?”
Bai You’s fingers were already turning cold. Clinging to the last shred of hope, his voice trembled slightly. “What are you talking about… ah!”
The moment he spoke, Fu Yu used two fingers to grip his collar and ripped away the patch covering the gland on the back of his neck.
The gland, still marked with bite wounds, was exposed to the air and the Alpha’s predatory gaze.
Most Omegas are unwilling to expose their most vulnerable spot so easily to an Alpha, even if that Alpha is their lover.
They know all too well that Alphas are greedy, violent, and possessive beasts that can never be truly satisfied.
Bai You was no exception.
The moment he felt Fu Yu’s fingers touch his gland, he instinctively tried to break free, only to be pulled into a suffocatingly tight embrace.
A tall Alpha possesses enough strength to bend steel; overpowering an Omega was effortless. With just one hand, he pinned Bai You down. With the other, he pinched Bai You’s chin, forcing him to look up. His voice turned cold. “Are we still playing pretend? Is this fun for you?”
Bai You’s lips trembled as he tried to speak.
But in the next second, the words died in his throat.
Avoiding the gland, Fu Yu sank his teeth fiercely into the side of Bai You’s neck.
It was a punishing, bloody bite.
20.
The side of the neck isn’t like the gland; being bitten there doesn’t immediately strip away an Omega’s ability to resist. Bai You flinched from the pain and swung his hand back in a sharp strike.
Fu Yu didn’t dodge. He took the slap full-on.
A faint sound of collective intake of breath seemed to come from the shadows around them.
Bai You’s neck was bleeding, and his pheromones began to drift out slowly with the blood. Fu Yu didn’t even blink. He lightly licked away the trace of blood with the tip of his tongue, squinting his eyes in enjoyment as he inhaled the familiar scent of cold orchids.
This was the smell.
No matter how irritable he felt, the moment he caught the scent of these pheromones, he felt a sense of mental satisfaction. He was calmed.
Fu Yu grabbed Bai You’s other swinging hand. The absolute physical dominance of an Alpha over an Omega was on full display. Even though Bai You was fighting with everything he had, once Fu Yu gripped his wrist, it looked more like he was throwing himself into the Alpha’s arms.
The Alpha toyed with his wrist, rubbing the delicate skin and bringing it to his nose to sniff. A glint of predatory excitement flashed in his eyes, as if he might bite into the wrist at any moment to taste the orchid-scented blood.
“Brother,” Fu Yu finally suppressed that bloodthirsty, violent thrill. A smirk played on his lips. “You smell wonderful.”
A chill ran down Bai You’s spine. He tried to pull his hand back. “…What exactly do you want?”
Fu Yu didn’t answer. Instead, he gave a slow, deliberate clap. Immediately, his men brought forward a person. It was a Beta, his face pale with terror. Seeing Bai You, the man let out muffled whimpers for help through the gag in his mouth.
Bai You didn’t need to ask; he knew this was the person who had forged his fake identity.
Fu Yu played with a handgun, spinning it effortlessly before pressing the barrel against the man’s head. “Do you know what you did wrong?”
The man’s terror intensified. If it weren’t for the two men flanking him, he probably would have collapsed. He nodded frantically and then looked toward Bai You, tears streaming down his face.
Bai You looked away. He couldn’t even save himself, let alone this stranger.
He had hoped for a chance to bolt, but at some point, the area behind him had been filled with Fu Yu’s subordinates all of them large, imposing Alphas. There was no escape.
While he was still searching for an opening, Fu Yu suddenly looked back at him. “Brother, how do you think we should handle him?”
Bai You spoke coldly, “Would you really spare his life just because I asked?”
He remembered all too well how Fu Yu had shown no mercy to his own siblings years ago.
Fu Yu nodded agreeably. “Of course.”
Bai You said, “His crime doesn’t warrant death.”
Fu Yu nodded and reached out to take the envelope from Bai You’s hand. He glanced inside and suddenly spoke: “According to Article 280 of the Federal Criminal Law, anyone who forges identity documents for huge profits under serious circumstances shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than three years but not more than seven years, and shall also be fined.”
The forger: “???”
Bai You: “…”
“I’m confiscating the gun,” Fu Yu said, tucking the weapon away without changing his expression. He patted his subordinate on the shoulder. “Take him to the police station.”
Bai You stared at the documents that had cost him ten times the normal price documents that represented his new life. His fists clenched and unclenched in frustration. “How do you plan to deal with me?”
Fu Yu inhaled the deepening scent of orchids on him, his mood improving by the second. “The smell of disguised neutralizers isn’t nearly as nice as your natural scent. Don’t use them anymore.”
Bai You’s face darkened. “What do you want to do to me? If you’re going to kill me or beat me, just get it over with.”
“What are you thinking? We’re going home,” Fu Yu said with a smile. “No Alpha would ever be rough with their own Omega, right?”
