- Non-Humans Want to Fall in Love Too [Quick Transmigration]
- Chapter 16 - Shi Yan Held Him Steadily
Ji Shijin returned indoors just as dinner was being served. Seeing that he had not only brought back Xiao Bai after a few days’ absence but was also holding a freshly bloomed flower, Aunt Hong stepped forward with a mix of surprise and delight. She welcomed Shi Yan’s return, ordered the kitchen to bring out the dinner prepared for him, and then went to the warehouse to find a beautiful vase.
The cross-section of the flower branch, bitten off by the fox’s sharp teeth, was uneven. Aunt Hong trimmed it and placed it in the vase with some water. When she turned around, she saw the little red ball of a fox already sitting down and starting to eat.
Opposite him, Ji Shijin picked up his chopsticks. He ate while watching Xiao Bai, as if the sight of him served as an accompaniment to the meal.
There had always been only one person at the dining table, but now that there was a little fox, the scene of one person and one fox, one quiet and one moving, looked exceptionally harmonious.
Aunt Hong watched for a moment with a beaming smile, then carried the vase upstairs and placed it in the study as Ji Shijin had instructed.
After dinner, the person and the fox returned to the study in a tacit understanding. Ji Shijin drew all the curtains and then turned around to say, “Alright, do you want to change back?”
The little fox nodded his head. In the blink of an eye, a layer of thin red mist rose, and a tall man replaced the originally small red fox.
Ji Shijin looked over. The clothes on Shi Yan had reverted to the long robe from their first meeting. His hair was short, but because his features were so sharp and captivating, this attire did not seem abrupt at all.
Shi Yan looked down at himself and formed a hand seal, changing his clothes into a modern style.
Since Shi Yan had returned to human form, the link between them naturally did not need to continue. He proactively disconnected it, and Ji Shijin felt a sense of emptiness in his mind as if something had been drawn away.
Their eyes met, but neither spoke, allowing the silence to ferment in the air.
After a long time, Shi Yan turned his gaze away first and asked, “Is there a computer or a tablet?”
There were still some loose ends to tie up regarding his human identity.
Ji Shijin did not ask what he intended to do; he simply handed over the computer on the desk and opened the documents he had not finished reading that afternoon.
“Go ahead and use it.”
Shi Yan did not stand on ceremony. Holding the computer, he sat in the single sofa in front of the floor-to-ceiling window. The man was tall with long legs, making him look somewhat cramped in the small leisure sofa. He placed the computer on his lap, operating it with one hand while the other rested relaxedly beside the sofa, his fingers swaying gently.
As Ji Shijin looked at his documents, his gaze involuntarily fell upon the man.
Shi Yan’s presence was far too strong.
Now that it was not the little fox accompanying him at work, the study was very quiet. Ji Shijin could clearly perceive the other person’s breathing, his every movement, the sound of fabric rubbing against the sofa, and the occasional sound of typing on the keyboard.
Unaccustomed to working in a room with another person, Ji Shijin felt that today’s documents were numerous and long; he had looked at them for a long time but still had not finished.
The man by the window, however, was focused. Since sitting down, he had hardly changed his posture. He kept his eyes on the computer and tried his best not to make any sound. Sometimes he took out his phone to give instructions, but it was always on silent.
Perhaps affected by this focused atmosphere, Ji Shijin gradually recovered his normal work efficiency. His attention no longer drifted toward Shi Yan. There were only a few meters between them, yet it was as if they each minded their own business, handling their respective work.
The atmosphere was harmonious and pleasant.
Finally, Ji Shijin moved his gaze away from the desk. He looked up and found that the sky had turned a deep black. The hands of the clock on the wall pointed to a large number. The man by the window was resting with his eyes closed.
The hand Ji Shijin used to operate the wheelchair stopped, as he hesitated over whether to wake the man.
“Is the work finished?” When he looked over, Shi Yan happened to open his eyes. There was no trace of weariness in them; instead, they were very clear.
Ji Shijin smiled. “Yes. What about your business? Was it successful?”
Shi Yan stood up and moved his wrist, which had gone slightly numb from being rested upon. He replied, “The identity issue has been resolved. Why, are you curious?”
Ji Shijin nodded. “Of course.”
As far as he knew, when he saved Shi Yan, the latter had just come to the human world from the Demon Realm. How did he handle his human identity in such a short time?
“Many of our Demon Race mingle in human society. Resolving identity issues is not difficult; they have become skilled through practice,” Shi Yan said.
This was also something he learned through Cheng Ci. Some demons who were doing well among humans specialized in handling identity issues for those who wanted to enter human society. So, when a thousand-year-old Great Demon like Shi Yan approached them, they arranged a prominent identity for him without a second thought.
“The eldest son of a certain overseas conglomerate family. His mother was a woman from our country. The young master has returned to pay respects to his mother and intends to stay and develop within the country.”
This was the identity those lesser demons had arranged for Shi Yan.
Hearing this, Ji Shijin could not help but laugh.
Shi Yan turned back to look at him with an unreadable expression. “What?”
Ji Shijin shook his head. “Nothing. Although it sounds exaggerated, it is indeed very intimidating.”
Those lesser demons were already arranging to spread information about Shi Yan’s return. He believed that before long, the entire Chengning business world would know. That would be the best time for Shi Yan to make his appearance.
Ji Shijin merely thought of the scene if he were to attend those banquets, being surrounded like a prized possession by a large group of uninformed people, exchanging greetings and flattery, and competing for cooperation.
Shi Yan raised an eyebrow. “You think this identity is fake?”
Ji Shijin froze. “Mm?”
He thought Shi Yan’s identity was just something that sounded good, but was actually a borrowed name or something fabricated out of thin air. After all, he was a demon; it should be easy to simply confuse the vision of people within the country.
The corners of Shi Yan’s mouth curled up, as if in mockery or as if he were unable to suppress a laugh. “You can check to see exactly how much assets are under my name.”
An identity can be faked, but industries cannot. Refusing to believe it, Ji Shijin sent a message to his assistant and received a reply ten minutes later.
He lowered his head and looked at it carefully for a long time, then looked up at Shi Yan again, the emotions in his eyes very complex.
Shi Yan analyzed it; that emotion was probably the complex feeling of suddenly discovering that the cute, weak kitten at home who could only meow was actually a ferocious leader of a territory.
Ji Shijin was immersed in the shock of Shi Yan’s identity and did not notice that the man had actually followed him back to the room. When he entered the walk-in closet and turned around, he suddenly realized Shi Yan was behind him.
The man leaned against the doorframe, his expression unreadable, very gentlemanly and polite. “Wash up first. Tonight, I will help you suppress the death energy in your body again; otherwise, you will not sleep well.”
“Okay.” Ji Shijin took his clothes to shower. After closing the bathroom door, he suddenly remembered an important matter.
Shi Yan was a human now. Would he change back into a fox when sleeping at night, or would he still be in the same room as him?
The room next door had been prepared early on for the little fox’s use, but while that room had everything, it did not have a bed that could accommodate an adult man.
Shi Yan wandered around Ji Shijin’s bedroom out of boredom. It was empty and rigid, lacking a sense of life; everything in sight was in stiff colors like black, white, and gray.
Hearing the sound of the wheelchair, he turned around and saw Ji Shijin, who had finished washing up, his hair soft and limp.
He took a step forward and, before Ji Shijin could react, picked him up in a horizontal hug and walked toward the bed.
Ji Shijin!
He hurriedly reached out to hook his arm around Shi Yan’s neck. His ears turned red instantly, yet his face showed an unexpected look of realization. “The last two times I lost consciousness, did you carry me like this too?”
Shi Yan held him steadily and placed him on the bed. “Yes.”
His expression was as usual, and his movements of picking up and putting down were clean and efficient, leaving no room for Ji Shijin’s imagination to wander.
Shi Yan checked the time; it was already the hour Ji Shijin usually went to sleep. “Close your eyes. After I finish processing it for you, I will cast a spell to help you sleep better.”
Ji Shijin almost instantly thought of last night’s good sleep. “Did you do the same yesterday?”
“Yes, it was a simple task.” Shi Yan stopped wasting time and firmly requested that he close his eyes. A red light on his finger, like a ribbon, leisurely entered Ji Shijin’s body.
A burning warmth traveled through his sensationless legs. Ji Shijin was made lightheaded by that warmth and fell into a dream before long.
As usual, Shi Yan cast a soul-soothing spell. Ji Shijin’s breathing visibly became steady and gentle, and his habitually furrowed brow relaxed, a peaceful and warm aura surrounding him.
Shi Yan watched him quietly for a while, his gaze involuntarily drawn to those slightly parted, rosy lips.
Ji Shijin’s lips were usually pale and colorless. Only after Shi Yan helped him suppress the death energy did they begin to improve, and now they had turned a healthy light pink.
As if perceiving someone staring at him in his dream, Ji Shijin frowned slightly. His body turned toward the inside of the bed, but because of his burdened legs, he could not turn around; he could only rigidly turn his upper body halfway, forming a twisted posture.
Shi Yan sighed softly, leaned over to straighten his awkward position, and properly covered him with the slipped quilt, tucking in the corners.
61 appeared quietly, not understanding why his Host kept staring at the person sleeping. Was it that good-looking?
“Host, are you going to turn into a fox or stay in human form to sleep tonight? There does not seem to be a second bed here.”
“Isn’t there one in the guest room?” Shi Yan raised an eyebrow. Even after being a fox for a long time, he was still accustomed to using a human form. “I will just use a spell to clean it up tomorrow morning; no one will be able to find out.”
It was not that he was unaware of Ji Shijin’s worries, but he purposely did not mention them out of a desire to tease the man. Shi Yan reflected on it and found that he had somehow developed a bit of a mischievous streak regarding Ji Shijin.
However, the feeling was not bad. He had always trusted his intuition, so he had no psychological fluctuations. After confirming that Ji Shijin was sound asleep and unharmed, he pinched his fingers and transformed into a wisp of smoke, drifting directly toward an unoccupied guest room.
The next morning, Ji Shijin woke up and felt that all his exhaustion had vanished; he had indeed had a good night’s sleep.
He propped himself up but suddenly saw the man sitting on the sofa opposite him, and his mind exploded with a bang.
Shi Yan had changed his clothes; today it was a deep gray leisure tracksuit. His hair was neatly groomed, a computer was on his crossed legs, and a pair of glasses rested on the bridge of his nose. He looked as if he had been there for a significant amount of time.
Ji Shijin rigidly turned his head to look at the space beside him; the bedding was smooth, with no trace of anyone having slept there.
For some reason, he breathed a slight sigh of relief. Ji Shijin looked at him again and asked, “Where did you sleep last night?”
Yesterday, before he could ask this question, he had been pressed down by Shi Yan to lie down, and after the treatment, he had directly fallen comfortably asleep.
Shi Yan took off the blue-light blocking glasses he had taken from Ji Shijin’s study, closed the computer on his knees, and set it aside before answering unhurriedly, “Sorry, I stayed in your guest room without permission. However, I erased all traces this morning; no one will find out.”
Ji Shijin shook his head. “No need to apologize; it was I who forgot to arrange it for you.”
So he actually rested in human form last night? Ji Shijin could not help but space out for a moment while thinking.
Seeing that Ji Shijin was awake, Shi Yan stood up leisurely. Last night, Ji Shijin had been carried back to bed by him, and the wheelchair was placed far away; he absolutely could not get out of bed on his own.
“Cough, what are you doing?” Caught off guard, Ji Shijin was startled to be picked up again. Looking at the distant wheelchair, he said, “You can just push the wheelchair over!”
Shi Yan looked down at the slightly anxious face of the person in his arms. Somehow, he suddenly thought of the way the man had struggled to turn around last night but was trapped by his legs.
“It is fine; you are very light.” Shi Yan turned around easily while holding him.
He was tall with long legs and reached the wheelchair in just a few steps, leaning over to set the person down. Ji Shijin looked up at him, his eyes slightly helpless. “It is not a matter of my weight.”
“Shh.” Shi Yan stopped his words. With a movement of his finger, the enchanted wheelchair turned on its own toward the walk-in closet.
“Go change your clothes and wash up. Are you not going to work today?” It was already not early.
Being interrupted by such an irregular operation, Ji Shijin could only swallow the words he wanted to say. He helplessly finished washing up and changed into his outdoor clothes. When he came out, Shi Yan had turned back into the little fox.
“Today, I am going to the company with you,” Shi Yan transmitted his voice.
Ji Shijin froze and blurted out, “In human form or?”
Shi Yan remained silent and did not answer immediately. Just as Ji Shijin thought he would not answer, he spoke, “In the fox form.”
Shi Yan thought that if he appeared at the Ji Corporation with Ji Shijin in his human identity, it would inevitably attract countless attention. The image of the little fox was better; he would not be disturbed by people, and it would be quiet.
“Okay,” Ji Shijin replied. The hand on his lap curled involuntarily. He could not tell if the feeling that appeared in his heart at that moment was disappointment or something else.
