No One Else Will Do But You - Chapter 43
“A-Mu, haven’t your parents arrived yet?”
Over the past few years, people had seen how intensely Jiang Mu’s father pursued Jiang Qin, and it was clear to observers that a remarriage was highly probable. In fact, they had remarried, but the full formal implementation would take some time.
They also learned something that shocked them all: Jiang Mu’s father was an Earl, a French aristocrat. No wonder he was so determined to gain custody in the past.
Anyone who saw Carlo would say he was a man born for romance—elegant, handsome, and impeccably polite. Even Shu Luo’s mother would get starstruck.
Jiang Mu had indeed inherited the best qualities of both of his parents, and his personality was a blend of theirs. He was steady and precocious, which was likely due to his family background.
“Carlo, can you ride a horse?”
The two families were gathered for a dinner party this weekend, and the atmosphere at the table was joyful.
“Of course. My estate has a paddock. If you have time, you’re welcome to visit my château (estate).”
“What is the life of a Western aristocrat like?” Shu Luo’s mother asked, unleashing her brain full of curiosity.
Carlo smiled. “Mm… Don’t imagine it like in TV dramas; that was a long time ago. Today’s aristocracy only retains the title and the right to participate in politics. Aside from the family estate, which is centuries old and symbolizes the past glory of Rochechouart, we certainly do not lack anything today.”
This was a relatively long speech, which had to be translated by Jiang Mu, the Chinese novice.
Shu Luo’s mother nodded. Well, she still couldn’t quite imagine what that life was like.
“Little Luo Luo, have you decided on your major?” Carlo asked Shu Luo, who was sitting on the side.
“Clinical Medicine. I don’t want to switch majors.”
Carlo nodded. “Studying medicine is lonely, and it’s rare that you chose this path, particularly Clinical Medicine, the most demanding department.”
Shu Luo knew this, but he had to stick with it, didn’t he? He believed he could do it.
Jiang Mu hadn’t expected him to choose to study medicine and had wondered countless times if it was because of himself.
Shu Luo’s father was playing with little Shu Yin on the side. He truly cherished this youngest son; he hadn’t been apart from him much since his birth. Now that his career was flourishing and he was a manager with less demanding work hours, he naturally had time to manage the company’s operations. He wouldn’t repeat the negligence of his youth; the growth of his children was very important. Although Shu Luo was already grown, the fear they felt as parents when he was young was still there.
“Luo Luo, why do you look thinner again recently?” Jiang Qin looked at Shu Luo’s complexion. “Auntie thinks you haven’t looked well recently. Is the study load too much?”
Shu Luo subconsciously touched his face. He indeed didn’t have as much flesh as before. “Mm… maybe my appetite hasn’t been great recently, because of practicing… dissection.”
Those studying medicine have to face this. When he first started learning, he didn’t eat for a whole week and even developed a mild fever. Fortunately, it wasn’t serious, but he hadn’t told anyone about this.
No matter how many times he practiced dissection, every time he became familiar with one type of dissection, he would have to dissect another type of creature. He figured he would need a very long adaptation period.
Jiang Mu frowned. He had noticed it too but hadn’t asked in detail.
Carlo saw what was going on right away. “You will adapt. You’ll get used to it even after throwing up a few times.”
Throwing up?
Jiang Mu looked thoughtfully at the small face across from him.
After dinner, the parents sat in the living room chatting, and the two boys went upstairs first. An auntie would handle the cleanup.
Since they moved, Shu Luo’s personal space had become larger.
But what hadn’t changed was the room’s arrangement. Habit is a stubborn way of being.
There were two hanging chairs on the balcony, specially set up.
The villa complex overlooked a lake and a forest park, so the air was very fresh. Especially at night, one could see many more stars here than in the city.
“Luo Luo, why did you decide to study medicine?”
Shu Luo turned his face to look at him. “What do you think?”
His earnest eyes made Jiang Mu just want to embrace him tightly.
It was as expected.
“Luo Luo, we’ve known each other for seven years. Will there be a seven-year itch?”
Looking at Jiang Mu’s handsome face, Shu Luo laughed. “That term is used to describe couples or spouses.”
“You know what I’m talking about.”
Shu Luo took a deep breath, his gaze fixed on the distance. “I’m really not sure.”
“Not sure about what? Not sure if you like me, or not sure who you are?”
“Brother, I know. Give me some time.” How could he not feel it? He was close to being swayed by his own heart.
In truth, the thin barrier separating them as brothers and lovers had long since cracked.
They were just waiting—waiting for a better opportunity.
Jiang Mu walked up to him and crouched down, hooking his hand around Shu Luo’s nape and pulling him closer.
The icy lips and his own seemed eager to ignite a more intense passion. Once they kissed, there was an urge not to part.
Their entangled breaths were exchanged. The moment they opened their eyes, the look felt like forever.
Even after separating, Jiang Mu reluctantly rested his forehead against Shu Luo’s. Shu Luo heard his charming, deep voice whisper in his ear.
“I love you. I will find a time to make you admit it. Wait for me.”
Shu Luo then cupped Jiang Mu’s face. Their eyes met.
“Next time, I will definitely admit it.”
They could almost hear each other’s heartbeats, as if they were beating in perfect unison.
Yes, if he didn’t admit it soon, he’d have to admit he was cowardly.
He had hesitated and dismissed the thought in high school, but once the dynamic between the two of them shifted, things naturally changed.
He had said countless times that Jiang Mu was the most important person to him besides his parents, and wasn’t that true? After entering his life, how could he cut this flesh out unless he tore it off completely?
He also admitted that he was too immature before, but after going to university and meeting so many different people, every personality, every interaction, made him realize countless times that Jiang Mu truly was different.
When he thought about it enough, he naturally understood.
Jiang Mu had set a trap, and he had stepped into it from the very beginning. When he pretended to be strong, Jiang Mu opened his arms to him.
So, he had to become strong and powerful, becoming someone who could stand shoulder-to-shoulder with him.
He might not be a child anymore, but he still wanted to be Jiang Mu’s child, enjoying the warmth Jiang Mu offered him.
“What are you thinking about? You’ve been spacing out a lot recently.” Jiang Mu rubbed his head.
“Nothing. Thinking about all things beautiful,” Shu Luo replied, smiling.
“Beautiful things? Like me?”
“Braggart! You’re really getting more narcissistic now.”
Is that true? His assistant had said so too, but why didn’t he feel it?
But none of that mattered. He only knew that all his changes were because of the person in front of him, the one who was worth changing for.
Now, he needed time to think. He was concerned: was he truly homosexual?
