No One Else Will Do But You - Chapter 10
There are 15 days left until the high school entrance exam.
In the blink of an eye, the second year of middle school has passed, and the third is about to end. Middle school life is coming to a close. Time passes too quickly, just like our youth, which disappears even faster.
Jiang Mu’s habit of sleeping has not changed, but his grades are still excellent.
Shu Luo can only furiously work on his exam questions, filled with a sense of unfairness as he looks at the person sleeping so soundly next to him.
“Jiang Mu, stop sleeping! If you keep sleeping, you’re going to fail the exam!”
Shu Luo felt a sense of injustice, so he wanted to make the other person unhappy as well.
When Jiang Mu didn’t react, Shu Luo decided to use his ultimate move. He leaned close to Jiang Mu’s ear, gritted his teeth, and bit down.
“Hiss—” Jiang Mu shot up, and his eyes met the smug expression on Shu Luo’s face.
Shu Luo triumphantly picked up his pen and continued to work on his problems, ignoring the angry look on Jiang Mu’s face. He suddenly felt much better.
Jiang Mu saw the smug look on his face, reached out, and wiped the saliva from his ear. A smile suddenly appeared on his lips.
“Is there a problem you can’t solve? You could have just woken me up; you didn’t have to do that.”
Hearing Jiang Mu’s teasing voice, he laughed and turned his head. “How could that be? My grades aren’t…”
He trailed off, seeing Jiang Mu’s half-smile. All his confidence was gone, and he suddenly felt a little guilty.
“Hey, I’m too lazy to talk to you. Don’t interrupt my studying.”
Jiang Mu ruffled his hair. “Who’s interrupting whom, huh?”
Shu Luo looked at the devil sitting next to him and wished someone would come and take him away.
It seemed that the period leading up to graduation was also the season for confessions, whether it was middle school or high school.
Especially at a school like Zhengcheng, where the middle school and high school were in the same place, how could people not know about the good-looking boys and girls?
The most popular boy in middle school was Jiang Mu, and the most popular girl was Jiang Mengling. In high school, the most popular boy was Wu Linze, and the most popular girl was Shen Ruilei. These four were very busy these days, as students who liked them were always giving them gifts.
This made Shu Luo feel envious, seeing so many people getting gifts. They’re just good-looking.
At six in the afternoon, the ninth graders were finally let out of school.
Jiang Mu rode his bike home with Shu Luo, carrying a heavy bag.
“Hmph, you got a lot of stuff, huh?”
Hearing the jealous tone in his voice, Jiang Mu’s lips curved upward.
“It’s nothing much.”
Shu Luo angrily slapped him on the back, forgetting that he was on a bike. This caused Jiang Mu to swerve.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa!” Shu Luo immediately hugged Jiang Mu’s waist.
Jiang Mu was startled and almost lost control of the bike.
“Shu Luo, do you know how dangerous that is!” Jiang Mu stopped the bike abruptly, put his feet on the ground, and said in a cold voice.
Shu Luo awkwardly held up his hands. He had forgotten he was on a bike and didn’t know what to say. He admitted that he had felt a little annoyed and upset, which was why he had hit Jiang Mu.
Hearing no sound behind him, Jiang Mu frowned and turned around, meeting Shu Luo’s flustered eyes. In an instant, his heart softened.
He remembered why Shu Luo had hit him so hard and smiled helplessly.
“Alright, all of that stuff is for you.”
Shu Luo’s eyes lit up a little, but he pretended not to care. “Hmph, you’re just giving me things that you got from someone else.”
“If you don’t want it, I’ll just throw it away. I don’t eat any of it anyway.”
“What? You mean food!” Shu Luo’s eyes lit up instantly. “Oh, if it’s food, then it’s fine. It’s not like you’ll know where it came from once it’s in my stomach.”
Jiang Mu shook his head, looking at him with a hopeless expression. Then he turned around and rode home.
“Hey, are you really giving it to me? Don’t lie!”
“Didn’t you already have a perfect reason to refuse? You don’t want things from someone else, right?”
“Did I? No, you heard wrong.”
“Is that so…”
“Yes, yes.”
The setting sun gradually lengthened their shadows until they overlapped.
The sunset was beautiful.
In a luxury private car not far away, a pair of eyes was so deep they were unreadable.
“Boss, should we follow them?”
“No, leave them for now. Let’s go back.”
“Yes, Boss.”
The pure French conversation and the deep, three-dimensional features of the Western man foreshadowed that the future would not be so smooth.
Families were working hard to provide the best balanced diet for their children for these three days, afraid that their children would not be in good condition.
Shu Luo, for his part, was in an unusually good state in the final days and even performed better than usual on the final exam.
Zhengcheng First Middle School has abundant educational resources, and its high school is a goal for many students. Students from the middle school get a 10-point bonus, so many of them prioritize applying for the high school.
“Luo Luo, are you confident you can get into the high school?” Shu’s mom asked during dinner.
Shu Luo bit his chopsticks, feeling a little anxious. “I don’t know, but I put it as my first choice.”
Shu’s mom was a little worried, as Shu Luo’s grades were only in the middle of the class, not particularly outstanding.
“Did Xiao Mu fill in the school, too?”
Shu Luo nodded. “Yeah, he doesn’t even need to take the exam to get in. The school would pay to keep him. The gap between people is so big, and the distance between me and Jiang Mu is like a chasm.”
Shu’s mom comforted him by putting a piece of meat on his plate. “It’s okay, it’s okay. We are who we are, and we’re just different. You have your smart points, too.”
“Like what?” It was a rare occasion for his mom to praise him, so he wanted to hear more.
“Eating! You’re a great eater, and being able to eat is a blessing! Look, Xiao Mu can’t eat as much as you. Look, haven’t you grown taller this year? You’re almost five feet tall now, right? Jiang Mu hasn’t grown as fast as you.”
“…” Mom, that’s not a compliment. That’s a backhanded compliment to Jiang Mu. What do you mean I eat a lot? What do you mean by that? She must think that Jiang Mu is easy to raise because he doesn’t eat much. And what do you mean Jiang Mu hasn’t grown as fast as me? He’s almost 5’9″! That’s not a slow growth rate. That’s a freak! He’ll be six feet tall soon!
Shu’s mom saw Shu Luo’s resentful expression and smiled. “Alright, alright, I’m just teasing you. Eat up. You and Xiao Mu are different, and you have your own strengths.”
Shu Luo twitched his face and finally decided to eat in silence. He would eat more to grow taller, and he would work to surpass Jiang Mu. Although, at the current rate, it might be a little difficult.
“Luo Luo, the exam is tomorrow. Don’t study anymore today. Just rest well, okay? Don’t put too much pressure on yourself.”
Shu Luo, who was watching TV, nodded. “Okay, I already threw away all my books.”
Oh no, this kid is too “trouble-free.” So tiring.
Shu’s mom’s lips twitched. “Alright, but don’t watch TV for too long. You should still review.”
Shu Luo looked at Shu’s mom with confusion, then shook his head. A woman’s heart is a needle at the bottom of the sea.
How fast time flies. Middle school is just ending like that.
He looked at the calendar, lost in thought.
If I don’t get into this school, will I really be getting farther and farther away from Jiang Mu?
He thought back to the day they were filling out the forms for the mock exam.
“Luo Luo, apply for this school. We’ll continue to be together.”
Jiang Mu said this in a very serious yet relaxed tone.
“…” Shu Luo’s hand holding the pen froze, and then he looked at him with a funny expression. Why does he make applying for a school sound as simple as eating? He can effortlessly crush my fragile spirit.
Jiang Mu saw what Shu Luo was thinking in his eyes. “Luo Luo, how do you know you won’t get in?”
Shu Luo nodded confidently. “I won’t.”
“…” He was so direct that Jiang Mu had no words.
Jiang Mu looked at him, seeing that he hadn’t even written down his first choice. He frowned. “Are you that unconfident in yourself?”
“Yes.”
What a justifiable reason.
Jiang Mu rested his chin on his hand and turned to look at him, which made the pretty girl sitting at the next table blush.
Mingli’s heart raced as she looked at Jiang Mu’s alluring face. She immediately covered her heart, feeling shy.
“Oh, Jiang Mu, please turn back. I-I can’t even do my homework. It’s so embarrassing.”
Shu Luo frowned, then looked at Jiang Mu’s posture. Is he showing off?
He slapped Jiang Mu’s arm and said through gritted teeth, “Turn around!”
Jiang Mu looked at him with a laugh, then used his chin to point at the paper. “First column, fill in Zhengcheng.”
“Jiang Mu, you’re crazy, but I’m not! Filling in Zhengcheng is a waste of a choice!” Shu Luo shook his head.
Jiang Mu used his hand to press down on Shu Luo’s hand holding the pen, looking him seriously in the eyes. “Trust me, I’ll make sure you get in.”
Jiang Mu’s eyes seemed to have an unusual sparkle, making people stare and want to believe him.
Shu Luo looked at him, conflicted. “How can you guarantee that?”
“We have two months. Give yourself to me. Come to my house every day after school, and I’ll send you home at 10:30.”
Shu Luo was bewildered. “What are you going to do?”
“I’ll give you a big pre-exam review and tutoring.”
“Why didn’t you help me earlier?”
“The timing wasn’t right. Now is just about perfect.”
Shu Luo thought for a moment. “What if I still don’t get in?”
“I’ll give up Zhengcheng. Wherever you go, I’ll go.”
Wow, should I be moved or grateful?
Mingli’s eyes suddenly lit up when she heard this. Hehe? Is there some gossip here?
Shu Luo was a little conflicted, and when he got anxious, he liked to pull at his clothes, making the corners uneven.
Jiang Mu saw his actions out of the corner of his eye and knew he was struggling. He tapped his head helplessly. “When have I ever gone back on my word?”
That’s true. He did give Shu Luo the skateboard he promised, a basketball with Kobe’s signature, and a PSP… Hmm, I guess he is trustworthy after all.
“Alright, I’ll trust you this one time.”
Jiang Mu’s lips curved into a smile, and his eyes were full of happiness.
Mingli touched her chin and smiled strangely. There really is gossip here. Okay, I’ll apply to Zhengcheng, too.
