My Wife, So Fierce! - Chapter 96
“From what you said earlier, sister, did that person bully you?” Shen Baiyi asked again.
“Bully?” Zheng Yao raised an eyebrow. “I wouldn’t exactly call it bullying.”
While it was true the other party had backstabbed her and plagiarized her novel, she wasn’t someone to be trifled with – she had immediately filed a lawsuit against them.
Later, the person knelt before her, crying pitifully with snot and tears, which was utterly ridiculous. She couldn’t be bothered to entangle herself with such people anymore. Besides, regardless of whether their previous friendship had been genuine or not, they had indeed been friends for a while, so she decided to let it go.
She never expected the other party would have no self-awareness at all – did they really think they could go back to being friends like before?
“Sister, you can’t go soft on people like this, otherwise they’ll take advantage of your kindness,” Shen Baiyi said with a serious expression.
“Understood.” After responding, Zheng Yao belatedly realized something. Her gaze settled on Shen Baiyi’s face, studying it for a few seconds before she smiled meaningfully. “Baby? Since when did I become your baby?”
As she spoke, she pinched Shen Baiyi’s palm. “I never knew before that you could be so fierce? Dragging people around and pushing them out – what if something happened and they stubbornly demanded you take responsibility?”
Shen Baiyi’s expression remained unchanged. “Sister has always been my baby.”
She added, “Don’t worry, sister. I know what I’m doing. I deliberately pulled her toward the wall – nothing serious could have happened.”
She wouldn’t give the other party any chance to fake injury.
It just wasn’t worth letting such a person ruin their shopping mood. “Sister, let’s not talk about her anymore.”
“Alright.” Zheng Yao nodded. She didn’t want Yan Ke to affect her mood either.
That stumble with Yan Ke hadn’t been completely useless – at least it taught her to learn from her mistakes and not fall twice in the same place. She would never casually reveal her online identity again, nor would she easily trust others.
The two arrived at the clothing section.
The temperature in City A dropped slowly, so there were still plenty of short-sleeved shirts on clearance at rock-bottom prices, while long-sleeved options were fewer.
What was displayed now was probably last year’s inventory, and none of it looked particularly appealing.
At a glance, all the clothes were unattractive. Zheng Yao made an immediate decision. “Let’s go look at clothes elsewhere.”
“Okay.” Shen Baiyi nodded.
Zheng Yao had originally thought buying clothes wouldn’t take much time, but after shopping for most of the day, they still hadn’t found anything suitable.
“Sister, I think that outfit looks nice.”
Hearing Shen Baiyi’s voice, Zheng Yao followed her pointing finger to see a matching set with a terribly outdated style. She couldn’t even imagine what Shen Baiyi would look like wearing it.
“Xiao Bai.” She spoke with grave concern. “Your taste really needs improvement.”
Shen Baiyi’s expression remained unchanged. “Really? Then it seems I still need sister to teach me more.”
Zheng Yao slightly raised an eyebrow. “Sure.”
She continued shopping with Shen Baiyi, but her thoughts had already drifted far away.
There were quite a few things she needed to teach Shen Baiyi. Although the girl seemed bold and capable of anything, she hadn’t forgotten that Shen Baiyi was afraid of supernatural things – she’d get terrified watching horror movies.
Although Chinese and English were performed exceptionally well in the college entrance exam, the foundation still needs to be consolidated when time permits.
Moreover, Shen Baiyi’s tendency to be easily swayed by others worried her, and Shen Baiyi’s view on love didn’t seem quite right either like an irrational “love brain.”
“Sister, why are you still frowning?” Shen Baiyi tilted her head and noticed Zheng Yao’s tightly knitted brows. Her own eyebrows slightly furrowed was that woman really occupying Sister’s thoughts so much?
Could it be that Sister still hadn’t let go of this matter?
At this thought, Shen Baiyi’s eyes darkened. Had she known earlier, she should have recklessly beaten up that person just now.
“It’s nothing.” Zheng Yao quickly suppressed her emotions and smiled at her. “If we don’t find anything suitable, it’s fine. I’ll buy some for you online later, there are even more stylish options there. For now, you can just wear my clothes for these few days.”
Wear Sister’s clothes?
Shen Baiyi hadn’t expected such an unexpected delight and immediately nodded: “Okay!”
Hugging her sister’s arm, she swayed it coquettishly: “Sister, don’t waste your energy on unworthy people. You’re here with your girlfriend, how can you be physically present but mentally absent?”
Zheng Yao: ???
How was she physically present but mentally absent?
Wasn’t she entirely preoccupied with thoughts of Shen Baiyi?
Of course, she couldn’t say this out loud, if she did, Shen Baiyi would become even more inflated with pride.
“Nonsense.” Still, some things needed to be clarified. She put on a serious expression: “I’m not wasting energy on anyone else.”
Not giving Shen Baiyi a chance to continue, she immediately added: “It’s getting late. Let’s grab a bite at a shop first. How about having hot pot for dinner? We can buy ingredients this afternoon to cook hot pot at home.”
It had been too hot recently to enjoy hot pot, but now that the weather was gradually cooling down, it was the perfect time for it.
“Okay.”
Shen Baiyi nodded.
During the several days of National Day holiday, the two ultimately didn’t travel far. Mainly because holiday travel was overwhelmingly crowded everywhere was packed with people, and traffic jams could last indefinitely.
After seeing videos of traffic congestion and overcrowded tourist attractions online, Zheng Yao completely abandoned any thought of going out for fun.
“Where could be more comfortable than home?” she reasoned confidently with Shen Baiyi, while also painting a rosy picture: “When winter comes, I’ll take you to play in the snow. This season really doesn’t offer much fun anyway.”
Shen Baiyi always cherished these promises from Zheng Yao and immediately agreed: “Okay.”
She was being utterly obedient.
Almost too obedient.
Filled with affection, Zheng Yao decided to take advantage of Shen Baiyi’s holiday time at home to help her build some courage.
So, she patted Shen Baiyi’s hand meaningfully: “Don’t worry, even though we’re not going out, I’ll make sure this holiday becomes meaningful.”
Shen Baiyi looked surprised: “What are you planning, Sister?”
“You’ll find out tonight.”
Zheng Yao had originally intended to maintain some mystery and give Shen Baiyi a small surprise, completely unaware that her words could be misinterpreted.
Shen Baiyi slowly blushed and nodded: “Okay.”
Zheng Yao, preoccupied with deciding which horror movie to show Shen Baiyi that evening, failed to notice her unusual reaction.
It wasn’t until dinner time, when she saw the lavish spread on the table, that Zheng Yao stared for a few seconds before looking up at Shen Baiyi with slight hesitation: “You haven’t been up to anything today, have you?”
“Not yet.” Shen Baiyi curved her lips into a smile. “Don’t we have plans tonight? It might go late, so eat well, sister, so you won’t get hungry later.”
That made sense.
Zheng Yao nodded: “True.”
But as she ate, various thoughts uncontrollably flooded her mind.
Shen Baiyi’s cooking kept improving with each meal, and her own appetite had been growing along with it. Her taste buds were becoming increasingly spoiled by Shen Baiyi’s cooking. The thought that after the long holiday, she wouldn’t be able to see Shen Baiyi every day and would have to eat various unpalatable takeouts and instant noodles made her mood heavy.
“Sister, what’s wrong?” Seeing her put down her chopsticks with a serious expression, Shen Baiyi’s brows furrowed in concern. “Does it not taste good?”
“No.” Zheng Yao sighed. “It’s too good, Xiao Bai. You’re going to spoil me completely.”
Nowadays, she found outside food unsatisfying – she only enjoyed what Shen Baiyi prepared. How could this be?
She was becoming too dependent on Shen Baiyi.
She didn’t know when it started, but she had become so reliant on someone else, especially when that person was younger than her.
Shouldn’t it usually be the younger one depending on the older? Why was it reversed between her and Shen Baiyi?
“How have I spoiled you, sister?” Shen Baiyi denied with a stern face. “You’re so capable and skilled at everything. The soup you make is delicious, your fashion sense is excellent, you’re smart and talented, so knowledgeable, and you can even write novels. Unlike me – my head hurts just looking at dense text.”
Zheng Yao blushed at the praise. She wasn’t really that amazing, was she?
Wait!
Her gaze suddenly sharpened: “You still get headaches from dense text? Then how do you handle reading for classes?”
Shen Baiyi: “…”
After a long silence, she stood up: “Sister, I’m going to check if Bub and Yaoyao need more water.”
With that, she immediately made her escape.
Zheng Yao clicked her tongue. This Shen Baiyi!
–
After washing dishes with Shen Baiyi, she went to the bedroom to fiddle with the projector she had bought earlier.
It was perfect for watching movies while sitting on the bed. When winter came and it got cold, she could wrap herself in blankets – a state she particularly enjoyed.
But for some reason, the projector wasn’t working no matter how much she tried to set it up.
While struggling with it, she was suddenly embraced from behind by Shen Baiyi.
“Sister, when will you be done?” Shen Baiyi’s tone carried a hint of grievance.
“Soon, soon.” Zheng Yao was sweating from the effort. “I don’t know why this thing isn’t working. So annoying.”
“If it’s broken, we can fix it another time.” Shen Baiyi complained mournfully. “Is a projector more important than me?”
She had thought her sister felt the same way about enjoying intimate moments, but her sister didn’t seem to be looking forward to it as much as she was.
She had been waiting in the room for so long, and her sister hadn’t even noticed her.
If she hadn’t initiated the hug, who knows how long it would have taken for her sister to realize she was there.
“Of course, the projector isn’t more important than you.” Zheng Yao said without hesitation. “But our plans later are closely related to it, so I have to get it working.”
Closely related?
To that kind of activity?
Shen Baiyi immediately blushed. Could it be that her sister wanted to watch those kinds of videos together using the projector?
Her sister was always so capable – she could even get resources for those kinds of movies.
Seeing sweat beading on her sister’s forehead, she quickly turned on the air conditioner and pulled her sister up. “Sit over here, sister. Let me handle this.”
“Can you, do it?” Zheng Yao asked skeptically.
“I’ll try.” Shen Baiyi had never operated this before and wasn’t sure if she could manage.
Zheng Yao moved aside. “Alright.”
Sitting on a nearby stool, she quietly watched Shen Baiyi’s focused expression as she fiddled with the projector.
When someone becomes serious, their charm always seems to intensify. Watching Shen Baiyi like this, Zheng Yao couldn’t help but curl the corners of her lips.
“Xiao Bai, you must have many admirers at school.”
She stated with certainty.
No one could resist such a Shen Baiyi.
Hearing this, Shen Baiyi paused briefly before looking up. “Sister, you must have had many admirers in university too, right?”
Zheng Yao raised an eyebrow. “Hmm? Throwing the question back at me, Xiao Bai? Are you feeling guilty?”
