My Wife, So Fierce! - Chapter 87
Although she initially disliked her, she genuinely wanted Shen Baiyi to hold her.
After a moment of silence, she stiffly said, then quickly added, “And be gentle.”
Don’t always act like you’re trying to break my waist.
Shen Baiyi’s arms soon wrapped around her waist, and besides the sound of the wind, there was her satisfied and obedient voice in her ear: “Got it, sister.”
Zheng Yao’s ears flushed with embarrassment.
Though she hated to admit it, ever since their first meeting, she had always liked Shen Baiyi’s voice, clear and crisp, with an indescribable magnetism and the unique gentleness that belonged to Shen Baiyi.
The gentleness remained, but the initial crispness had completely vanished, leaving only an intoxicating tenderness.
“Sister.”
Shen Baiyi’s hesitant voice sounded.
Zheng Yao snapped back to attention: “Hmm?”
Shen Baiyi: “I think we’ve reached the cafeteria.”
Zheng Yao quickly stopped the bike, but she stopped so abruptly that Shen Baiyi, who was behind her, clearly hadn’t reacted in time. The body that had been maintaining some distance instantly crashed into her.
Shen Baiyi’s softness pressed against her back, followed by her sharp intake of breath from the pain.
Zheng Yao’s face showed urgency: “Are you okay?”
As she spoke, her gaze unconsciously fixed on Shen Baiyi’s chest, and her hand instinctively reached out before she quickly caught herself, forcibly restraining it. She asked again, “Does it hurt a lot?”
It definitely hurt, but unfortunately, that area was too private, and they were outside. Even if she wanted to check, she couldn’t.
“It’s okay.” Noticing the concern on her sister’s face, Shen Baiyi smiled slightly. “If you’re really worried, how about checking it for me back in the dorm?”
Seeing that she could still joke, Zheng Yao felt relieved but put on a stern face: “What nonsense are you talking about? Get off the bike.”
Shen Baiyi obediently dismounted and went to retrieve the packed meal, not forgetting to ask, “Are you shy, sister? Speaking of which, you still haven’t gotten close with me yet.”
She sighed softly.
Even though they were together, it seemed they always stopped at kissing and hugging. Any further, and her sister was unwilling. She wondered if her sister still saw her as a child.
At this thought, her eyes flickered slightly: “Sister, can I stop calling you ‘sister’ from now on?”
“Huh?” Zheng Yao was taken aback. “Why?”
There was an age gap of several years between them. If Shen Baiyi didn’t call her “sister,” what would she call her?
“Can I call you by your name?” Shen Baiyi said, reaching out to hold her hand and swaying it gently. “I’ve never called you by your name before.”
Shen Baiyi calling her by her name?
Zheng Yao couldn’t quite imagine how that would feel, but she didn’t have any particular attachment to being called “sister,” so she nodded: “Fine.”
It was just a form of address, after all.
Shen Baiyi’s eyes lit up: “Then can I call you Yaoyao?”
Yaoyao?
Yaoyao?!
Zheng Yao couldn’t help but twitch her mouth and looked at her expressionlessly: “No.”
Well, she had only suspected before that Shen Baiyi might have deliberately given the kitten that name, but now she was completely sure.
This girl must have done it on purpose back then!
“Why not, sister?”Shen Baiyi clearly hadn’t expected to be rejected and looked somewhat disappointed, with a hint of probing in her attempt to push further.”
“Don’t you know why?” Zheng Yao shot her a sidelong glance. “I’m not going to compete with a kitten for a name.”
I should have expected this situation when I gave the kitten that name in the first place.
Shen Baiyi slumped down dejectedly.
After sitting down in the cafeteria, she couldn’t help but ask, “Is it too late for me to change Yao Yao’s name now?”
Zheng Yao glanced at her sideways, “Wouldn’t that mean I’m really competing with a kitten for the name, and worse, that I succeeded in taking Yao Yao’s name for myself?”
Shen Baiyi: “…”
She fell completely silent this time.
Zheng Yao had brought her to the second floor of the cafeteria, where there were fewer people. Most freshmen rushed to the first floor right after military training ended, with only a few remembering to come to the second floor.
Opening the lunch box, Zheng Yao crossed her arms and leaned back, “Eat.”
She had even thoughtfully ordered a bowl of soup for Shen Baiyi.
Because of the name issue, Shen Baiyi couldn’t hide her disappointment, but she wouldn’t show a sour face to her sister. She nodded upon hearing this, though her voice was noticeably lower, “Okay.”
“So unhappy?” Seeing her expression, Zheng Yao didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, “Besides Yao Yao, you can call me anything else.”
It’s just a form of address after all.
“Then can I call you wife?” Shen Baiyi’s eyes instantly lit up.
The smile on Zheng Yao’s face froze.
“…”
After a long silence, she took the chopsticks from Shen Baiyi’s hand, picked up a large piece of meat, and stuffed it into her mouth, saying calmly, “Eat.”
Understanding her meaning, Shen Baiyi slumped down again. After swallowing the meat in her mouth, she sighed softly, “Can I really not call you that?”
“Do you think that’s appropriate for public settings?” Zheng Yao said with a serious face, “You’re still a student.”
“I’m already a college student,” Shen Baiyi retorted, “And I’m nineteen years old. I should actually be a sophomore this year. I’m plenty grown up.”
“No.” On this matter, Zheng Yao remained firm.
She didn’t particularly care herself, but Shen Baiyi was still attending classes at school, surrounded by many people. Human hearts were unpredictable, and there was no telling what unpleasant rumors might spread.
Harsh words could wound deeply.
And first impressions were especially important.
She didn’t want Shen Baiyi’s first impression on others to be “that girl who’s into same-sex relationships.”
The beginning of the school year was crucial. She still remembered during her own military training year, there was a girl who had a crush on a boy and made such a scene that throughout her college years, everyone’s first thought upon seeing that girl was “the one who boldly confessed her love during military training.”
“Alright.” After taking a few bites of food, Shen Baiyi, having been rejected yet again, couldn’t help but struggle once more, “Not even in private?”
She looked truly pitiful. If Zheng Yao refused again, it would really be too unreasonable. So she pressed her lips together, suppressing her shyness, and nodded, “In private, you can.”
Shen Baiyi: !!!
“Really?” she asked cautiously, completely incredulous.
Zheng Yao was amused by her reaction, “What’s this? You get upset when I refuse, but when I agree, you don’t believe me. Just keep calling me sister.”
Shen Baiyi had already processed it and beamed with joy, “No, I want to call you!”
She deliberately lowered her voice for the word “wife.” Though it was hard to make out in the noisy cafeteria, just seeing her lips form the word made Zheng Yao blush uncontrollably.
Subconsciously turning her head away, she forced composure, “Hurry up and eat. After you finish, go back to the dorm for a nap.”
The smile faded slightly from Shen Baiyi’s face, “Is sister leaving?”
“Mm.” Zheng Yao said with amusement, “I’ll come see you again in a few days.”
Then she added with concern, “If you don’t like the cafeteria food, you can just eat out. Eat whatever you want, don’t worry about saving money. Call or message me anytime if you need anything.”
“Got it, sister.” Shen Baiyi nodded, suppressing her reluctance, but quickly realized something. “But we haven’t decided how I should address you in public yet.”
“What’s the hurry?” Zheng Yao curved her lips. “If you don’t know what to call me, just call me sister.”
Shen Baiyi: “Alright.”
Regarding how to address her sister, she didn’t want to decide casually, nor did she want to use the same form of address as others.
She had to be the most special to her sister.
Just like how her sister was the most special in her eyes – only her sister could call her “Xiao Bai,” no one else was allowed.
Still reluctant to let her sister leave so soon, she gradually slowed her eating pace. Besides deliberately stalling for time, she genuinely found it hard to swallow.
It was too hot – she only wanted to drink water, not eat anything, completely without appetite.
But the cafeteria was too hot, and her sister already had fine beads of sweat on her forehead. Sighing inwardly, she put down her chopsticks: “Sister, you should head back first.”
“Are you sure?” Zheng Yao raised an eyebrow. “I thought you’d be reluctant to let me go.”
Of course Shen Baiyi wanted to do exactly that, but she hadn’t forgotten her sister’s cleanliness obsession. If she sweated too much, her sister would be unhappy.
“Remember to wash your face when you get back, use the facial cleanser I prepared for you. Don’t forget to apply more sunscreen before afternoon military training, don’t get sunburned, understand?”
“Most importantly, you must remember to bring water this afternoon, use the water bottle I bought for you. Don’t just take a mineral water bottle.”
Before leaving, Zheng Yao couldn’t help but chatter on.
These were all lessons from her own experience. When she went through military training herself, she just grabbed a large bottle of mineral water from the supermarket. But with so many people in training, she could guarantee she wouldn’t take someone else’s by mistake, but couldn’t guarantee others wouldn’t take hers.
Once, precisely because someone accidentally took her mineral water, she nearly got heatstroke from thirst, her throat parched.
So she didn’t want Shen Baiyi to go through the same. She had bought Shen Baiyi an extra-large custom water bottle during summer vacation, even with Shen Baiyi’s name on it, so it would absolutely not be mistaken by others.
After saying all this, her gaze fixed on Shen Baiyi’s face, expression unchanged: “After all that talking, Xiao Bai wouldn’t think her sister is too naggy, would she?”
“No.” Shen Baiyi answered without hesitation, instantly beaming. “I like it when sister cares about me.”
Hearing this, Zheng Yao finally looked satisfied.
If Shen Baiyi had dared to nod just now, she would have had to reconsider their relationship.
Reaching out to pinch her cheek: “So well-behaved.”
Back home, Zheng Yao brought all the cats back. She originally planned to bring Dahuang back too, but the dog was extremely uncooperative.
Although Dahuang hadn’t been as enthusiastic as during previous visits with Shen Baiyi, it hadn’t shown resistance either.
So, neither she nor the pet hospital staff expected such a strong reaction when they tried to put on its leash to leave.
Baring its teeth while barking and making a fuss, it looked fierce and ready to bite, startling Zheng Yao, who was already afraid of dogs.
The staff at the pet hospital said Dahuang might have psychological trauma, so they ended up soothing its emotions instead of rushing to take it away.
The two cats, on the other hand, were carefree, especially Yaoyao. This cat had a huge appetite, always gobbling down its food in big mouthfuls as if afraid someone would snatch it away. Since it was young, it would eat until its belly was round and often sneak bites of Bub’s adult cat food.
As a result, it grew quickly, completely shedding its previous scrawny appearance. It was easy to imagine that before long, its weight would surpass Bub’s.
If only Bub had half its appetite, Zheng Yao would be overjoyed. That rebellious child had been extremely picky lately, taking only a few bites of anything and refusing this and that, it was truly frustrating to watch.
