My Wife, So Fierce! - Chapter 43
Shen Baiyi was momentarily overwhelmed with joy.
Her sister liked spending time with her and even allowed her kisses, showing no aversion to her touch.
At this thought, her eyes darkened slightly.
Did that mean her sister might accept even more intimate gestures?
Her gaze involuntarily drifted to her sister’s soft, rosy lips.
She really wanted to kiss them.
Her sister’s lips looked so inviting she had brushed against them a few times before while wiping her hands, and she knew just how tender they were.
Like jelly.
“It’s about time. I’ll drive you over,” Zheng Yao said, oblivious to Shen Baiyi’s distracted state. After checking the time, she stood up and began searching for her keys.
The dress she wore today wasn’t long, and as she bent over the couch rummaging around, the hem lifted slightly, revealing the edge of her safety shorts and the alluring curve beneath.
Shen Baiyi pressed her lips together. “Are you going out too, sis?”
“Dr. Zhuang is also dropping off her sister,” Zheng Yao replied, finally locating her keys. She straightened up. “We’ll hang out nearby and pick you both up when you’re done.”
All thoughts in Shen Baiyi’s mind came to an abrupt halt. She slowly lifted her head. “Dr. Zhuang?”
Zheng Yao gave a vague hum in response. After grabbing her things, she took a few steps toward the door before noticing Shen Baiyi hadn’t followed. She raised a brow. “What are you waiting for? Let’s go.”
“Okay.”
Shen Baiyi lowered her head and followed in silence.
Dr. Zhuang again.
It dawned on her belatedly that her sister led a simple life, with few close friends aside from that woman from before and now this Dr. Zhuang.
Because of her, her sister and Dr. Zhuang were growing closer.
Even though her sister still addressed her formally as “Dr. Zhuang,” Shen Baiyi could clearly detect a difference in her tone, one laced with familiarity and affection.
This realization kept her silent the entire ride.
The class gathering was held at a large restaurant, and with so many parents dropping off their kids, parking was a nightmare.
Sensing Shen Baiyi’s unusual quietness, Zheng Yao thought for a moment before speaking up gently, “Xiao Bai, if you really don’t want to go, we don’t have to.”
She didn’t want to push her too hard.
Hearing her sister’s concern eased Shen Baiyi’s heart a little. She adjusted her emotions, forcing herself to appear as normal as possible, and shook her head. “It’s fine.”
Compared to skipping the gathering, she disliked the idea of her sister being with Dr. Zhuang even more.
But she couldn’t possibly say that out loud otherwise, her sister might realize she was actually a possessive and petty person.
Nothing like the sweet little sister she thought she was.
Grabbing the cookies Zheng Yao had prepared for her, she got out of the car. “Sis, I’ll head in now.”
“Mm, have fun with your friends.”
Once Shen Baiyi entered the restaurant, Zheng Yao found a parking spot and made her way to the dessert shop next door.
Zhuang Liulan had arrived first and was already waiting.
“Sorry, the parking outside was a mess.”
“It’s fine,” Zhuang Liulan said, sliding the juice she’d ordered toward her.
Zheng Yao was parched and didn’t stand on ceremony, gulping it down in a few quick swallows.
“They’ve finally finished their college entrance exams,” Zhuang Liulan remarked, steering the conversation. “After all that hard work, they deserve to relax now. Zheng Yao, summer break is long, do you have any plans?”
“Hmm?” Zheng Yao was a bit confused. “What plans?”
Isn’t summer vacation just summer vacation?
Seeing her reaction, Zhuang Liulan chuckled. “Seems like you don’t have any plans then. I was thinking of taking Yangyang out for a trip. Do you want to join us?”
Then she added, “Don’t they have another close friend? Yangyang asked that friend, and they’re planning to come along too.”
So Zhu Xiaofu would be going as well.
Zheng Yao didn’t hesitate anymore. “We’re in. Our Baiyi is coming too.”
Shen Baiyi had known Zhu Xiaofu first, and now she was about to go on a trip with Zhuang Yang, whom she’d met later. Of course, Shen Baiyi couldn’t be left behind.
But just seconds after agreeing, she shook her head. “No, no, I should ask her first.”
If Shen Baiyi didn’t want to go, forcing her wouldn’t be fun.
Though she was eager for Shen Baiyi to fit in, she still had to respect her wishes.
Zhuang Liulan smiled and nodded. “Sure, if she has other plans, that’s fine. We can always arrange something another time.”
Mentioning the future, Zheng Yao couldn’t help but ask, “Which university is your sister aiming for?”
“A University,” Zhuang Liulan replied, then glanced up. “I heard your sister wants to apply there too. They might end up as schoolmates.”
Zheng Yao nodded. “They’ll definitely be schoolmates.”
She was confident Shen Baiyi would get in. Zhuang Yang’s grades were slightly better than Shen Baiyi’s, so of course she’d make it too.
Zhuang Liulan smiled. “I’ll take that as a blessing.”
They ordered some desserts, but before they could eat much, Zheng Yao’s phone rang.
Seeing Shen Baiyi’s name on the caller ID, she was slightly surprised. Had the gathering ended already?
“What’s up?”
“Zheng-jie!”
But it was Zhu Xiaofu’s voice.
Zheng Yao’s expression instantly changed. She stood up. “Zhu Xiaofu?”
Why was Zhu Xiaofu calling? Had something happened to Shen Baiyi?
At that thought, she immediately grabbed her bag to leave. The next second, Zhu Xiaofu’s voice came through. “Zheng-jie, Baiyi’s drunk. Come pick her up, quick.”
Zheng Yao: ???
Her steps froze.
Shen Baiyi was drunk?
Zheng Yao was baffled. “Wasn’t this a class gathering?”
With teachers present, how could they have been drinking?
The phone call wasn’t making things clear. Zheng Yao turned to Zhuang Liulan. “Something’s come up with Baiyi. I have to go, let’s talk on WeChat.”
“I’ll come with you,” Zhuang Liulan said, standing up at once.
Zheng Yao didn’t dwell on it and hurried to the restaurant next door.
The entire place had been booked by the school. Students were hugging and laughing everywhere, the noise alone enough to give anyone a headache.
Zheng Yao quickly made her way to the third floor, where Shen Baiyi’s class was.
It wasn’t much different from downstairs. A bunch of freshly minted adults, finally free from constraints, were acting like they’d lost their minds.
“Sorry about this, guardian,” the homeroom teacher said, looking apologetic. “The kids got a bit carried away. They snuck some alcohol when I wasn’t looking. By the time I noticed, Baiyi was already drunk.”
“It’s fine.” Zheng Yao scanned the room for Shen Baiyi. “Where is she?”
“Over here!” Zhu Xiaofu’s voice rang out.
Zheng Yao turned to see Zhuang Yang and Zhu Xiaofu supporting Shen Baiyi on either side. Shen Baiyi did indeed look thoroughly drunk.
“Jiejie, you’re finally here!” Zhu Xiaofu quickly pushed Shen Baiyi into Zheng Yao’s arms. “Take her away, quick. She’s wasted.”
She looked like she couldn’t wait to be rid of her.
Zheng Yao quickly caught Shen Baiyi, who leaned against her shoulder, soft and clingy. The warm breath exhaled against her neck sent waves of tingles through her.
Too preoccupied to ask why Zhu Xiaofu had avoided them, she hurriedly supported Shen Baiyi out.
“Let me help you.”
Zhuang Liulan, who had been following her, suddenly spoke up.
Zheng Yao was indeed struggling to manage alone Shen Baiyi had grown taller recently and wasn’t as scrawny as before, making it harder to support her.
“Alright, thank you,” Zheng Yao agreed.
But unexpectedly, Shen Baiyi, who had been docile just moments ago, suddenly became uncooperative. Her arms clung tightly around Zheng Yao’s neck, burying herself entirely into her embrace.
“No! Not her.”
Drunk Shen Baiyi harbored an inexplicable aversion to Dr. Zhuang. The moment the doctor approached, she bristled like a little hedgehog.
Zheng Yao’s face was accidentally scratched by Shen Baiyi’s nails, making her suck in a sharp breath. Annoyed, she snapped, “Shen Baiyi, if you scar me, I’ll stew you into soup tonight!”
The squirming girl in her arms instantly stilled, tilting her head to examine the wound before puckering her lips to blow on Zheng Yao’s face. “Sister, no pain! Sister, no pain!”
Zheng Yao: “…”
This is insane.
Covering Shen Baiyi’s mouth before it could reach her face, Zheng Yao turned an impassive gaze toward the stunned onlookers. “We’ll be leaving now.”
With that, she hastily guided Shen Baiyi downstairs.
After much difficulty, they finally reached the parking spot. Zheng Yao stuffed Shen Baiyi into the passenger seat, fastened the seatbelt with a resentful tug, and pinched her cheek before leaving.
What’s a brat doing drinking?!
By the time she settled into the driver’s seat, Shen Baiyi had opened her eyes again gazing at her with an intense, unblinking stare.
Zheng Yao, torn between anger and amusement, leaned over to grip Shen Baiyi’s chin. “What’s a brat doing drinking, huh?”
The next second, Shen Baiyi’s hand touched her face.
Zheng Yao froze momentarily.
Remembering the stinging pain, she scowled. “You scratched my face. Is it bleeding? If I’m scarred.”
Her words cut off abruptly.
A strange, scorching wetness pressed against her cheek Shen Baiyi was licking her wound.
The realization sent Zheng Yao’s mind blank. By the time she registered the soft, damp tongue lapping at her skin even lightly sucking she finally snapped back to reality.
She shoved Shen Baiyi away without hesitation.
Thud. Shen Baiyi’s head hit the car window.
Tears welled in Shen Baiyi’s eyes as she looked at Zheng Yao, voice tinged with confusion and hurt. “Sister?”
“Are you a dog?!” Zheng Yao grumbled.
Literally acting like a dog licking and nibbling at her!
What should’ve been a reprimand, however, was met with a solemn nod from Shen Baiyi. “I’m Sister’s puppy. Only yours.”
“…”
Whatever. No point arguing with a drunk.
Expressionless, Zheng Yao fastened her seatbelt and drove them home.
Thankfully, Shen Baiyi remained well-behaved the entire ride.
Relieved, Zheng Yao parked and painstakingly hauled her inside.
“With your tolerance, you’re banned from alcohol from now on.”
After dumping Shen Baiyi onto the couch, she collapsed onto the floor and lectured sternly.
Seeing Shen Baiyi’s deep, unblinking gaze fixed on her, it gave off an inexplicably dangerous illusion.
She raised an eyebrow. “What are you looking at?”
Honestly, it was kind of terrifying.
Unable to resist, she lifted her hand to cover Shen Baiyi’s eyes and chuckled softly. “Don’t look at me like that.”
No sooner had the words left her mouth than the face beneath her palm shifted abruptly her hand, which should have been covering his eyes, suddenly pressed against Shen Baiyi’s scorching lips.
Zheng Yao’s eyelid twitched, and she instinctively tried to pull away.
But Shen Baiyi was faster. His strong hand clamped around her wrist with unyielding force.
Then came the familiar damp warmth.
Zheng Yao froze completely.
Shen Baiyi was truly drunk.
Stiffly, she looked down and watched as Shen Baiyi, like a puppy, kissed every inch of her hand.
