My Wife, So Fierce! - Chapter 33
“Hello, Dr. Zhuang.” Seeing Zhuang Liulan, Zheng Yao pretended to have forgotten her previous embarrassing remarks and simply said, “I’m here to take the little one home.”
Zhuang Liulan smiled and nodded, choosing not to expose Zheng Yao. However, her gaze lingered on the young girl beside Zheng Yao with slight surprise.
But she didn’t ask further.
Though she and Zheng Yao were acquainted, their relationship wasn’t particularly close. Since Zheng Yao didn’t introduce the girl, she tactfully refrained from prying.
After placing the kitten into the carrier, she handed Zheng Yao some medication: “The dosage and instructions are written on the label. Remember to keep the two cats separated when you first bring it home. Let them adjust for a few days and get familiar with each other’s scent before meeting.”
“Got it,” Zheng Yao nodded.
Bringing a new resident home naturally meant buying new cat supplies. There was a pet store not far from the clinic.
Zheng Yao decided to walk there.
Handing the carrier to Shen Baiyi, she said, “From now on, this is your cat.”
Shen Baiyi froze. “Huh?”
She looked down at the little creature in the carrier, flustered. “My cat?”
“Of course,” Zheng Yao said matter-of-factly. “I already have a cat, how could I possibly have another? Bubu would get jealous.”
At this, Zheng Yao narrowed her eyes. “What, you don’t want it?”
“No!” Sensing the displeasure in her sister’s tone, Shen Baiyi quickly shook her head. “I’m just, too surprised.”
Her sister had actually given her a cat!
Staring at the tiny, mouse-like creature curled up in the corner of the carrier, Shen Baiyi earnestly praised, “It’s so cute.”
“Right?” Zheng Yao smirked. “The moment I saw this cat, I thought it looked just like you.”
Skinny, small, and pitch-black, with eyes that sparkled like stars.
The pitiful resemblance between the girl and the kitten was uncanny, a solid 99% match.
She had meant it teasingly, but Shen Baiyi’s interpretation was completely different.
The moment the words left Zheng Yao’s mouth, Shen Baiyi’s expression brightened even more, her surprise tinged with bashfulness. “Sister thinks I’m cute too?”
“…”
Zheng Yao fell silent.
Fine, if that’s how she wanted to take it.
But seeing the genuine delight on Shen Baiyi’s face, she couldn’t bring herself to deny it. Okay, fine she’d admit it. Shen Baiyi did have a certain charm.
Turning her head away, she said nothing more.
–
Zheng Yao had always been quick when it came to shopping.
On the way back, Shen Baiyi suddenly spoke up. “Sister, give the kitten a name.”
Unfortunately, Zheng Yao hated coming up with names. Without hesitation, she refused. “Your cat, your responsibility.”
“Okay.”
Shen Baiyi’s head drooped in disappointment. But as she watched the kitten curiously peeking out from the carrier, her eyes suddenly lit up. She turned to Zheng Yao and asked, “Can we call it Yaoyao?”
Zheng Yao replied dismissively, “Whatever.”
Hearing this, a slow smile spread across Shen Baiyi’s face. She reached out and gently stroked the kitten’s nose, whispering, “Yaoyao.”
Yaoyao was her cat now.
–
With the bicycle, Zheng Yao no longer had to wake up early. She had assumed she’d naturally wake at her usual time, but when she opened her eyes, it was already 9 a.m.
The house was empty Shen Baiyi had long since left for school.
A sticky note was pasted on the bathroom door:
[Good morning, sis! There’s congee kept warm in the kitchen for you. Please remember to eat breakfast! Bub and Yaoyao’s cat food has been refilled, and their litter is cleaned up. You can rest easy ^O^]
Zheng Yao was stunned.
With a 6:30 AM study session to attend and all these chores done, what time had Shen Baiyi woken up?
Her plan to experience single motherhood was probably doomed to fail. Compared to her, Shen Baiyi seemed more like the mom.
Zheng Yao pinched the bridge of her nose with a headache.
Whatever, why overthink it? Wasn’t it good that Shen Baiyi was so self-sufficient?
Still, despite her thoughts, after breakfast, Zheng Yao made a trip to the market.
Shen Baiyi prepared breakfast for her, so she’d prepare supper for Shen Baiyi fair exchange, no one was shortchanged.
With Shen Baiyi’s skinny frame, she definitely needed the nourishment.
That night, Shen Baiyi returned home to a steaming bowl of rich chicken soup.
Real chicken soup Zheng Yao had simmered it all day.
“Drink up.”
She leaned back in her chair, arms crossed.
The soup was fragrant and rich. Shen Baiyi set down her bag, took a seat, and sipped lightly before looking up in delight. “Did you make this for me, sis?”
Zheng Yao kept a straight face. “Takeout.”
Then, her gaze fixed on Shen Baiyi’s face. “Is it good?”
This was her first time making chicken soup.
“It’s delicious.” Shen Baiyi nodded emphatically, her eyes crinkling with a smile. “The best chicken soup I’ve ever had.”
Zheng Yao wasn’t about to be sweet-talked. She scoffed. “Weren’t you supposed to have amnesia? How do you remember other chicken soups?”
“Just a feeling.” Shen Baiyi’s expression didn’t change. She lowered her head, staring at the steaming soup, her eyes shimmering. “Even if I don’t remember, the feeling remains.”
This soup was definitely made by her sister.
Drinking it warmed her whole body. The taste wasn’t the most important part, the thought behind it was.
“You like it? Then eat up. There’s plenty.”
Zheng Yao remained unmoved, still convinced Shen Baiyi was just humoring her. But whether it was genuine or not didn’t matter as long as Shen Baiyi ate well.
That said, watching Shen Baiyi enjoy the food so much gave her a strange sense of accomplishment.
Maybe she had a talent for making soup?
For someone who was usually a kitchen disaster, suddenly believing she had a gift for soup was terrifying.
For a long time after, Zheng Yao became obsessed with brewing all kinds of nourishing broths black chicken soup, pigeon soup, pork rib soup if it could be simmered, Zheng Yao made it.
After nearly a month of Zheng Yao’s care, Shen Baiyi’s transformation was undeniable.
“Xiao Bai, have you been getting prettier lately?” Over lunch, Zhu Xiaofu found herself staring at Shen Baiyi’s face in a daze. “Were you always this good-looking?”
Remembering how her sister often gazed at her absentmindedly lately, Shen Baiyi smiled, eyes curving. “Maybe.”
The biggest change was that she had become much fairer.
A fair complexion masked many flaws, let alone someone like Shen Baiyi, who was naturally beautiful.
Her once gaunt face had filled out, her cheeks plump with collagen. With rosy lips, pearly teeth, and jade-like skin, her features stood out even more, elevating her beauty further.
Like a sapling carefully nurtured, she slowly stretched and blossomed, revealing lovely buds.
And she had even grown taller.
She had been striking even when tanned, but now, with her fairer skin, she was even more stunning.
Zhu Xiaofu sighed, “Now I understand why Lin Weiwei can’t seem to give up on you. You’re so beautiful that even a straight girl like me feels her heart flutter.”
Hearing Lin Weiwei’s name mentioned, Shen Baiyi frowned slightly.
That person was truly detestable.
Her cold attitude had once made the other girl lose interest for a while, but recently it seemed Lin Weiwei had taken a renewed liking to her.
After lunch, Zhu Xiaofu returned to the dormitory to rest while Shen Baiyi went back to the classroom as usual.
Normally, there weren’t many people in the classroom during lunch break, but life always had unexpected surprises.
Like now.
Shen Baiyi stared expressionlessly at the two girls passionately kissing in the classroom, her brows slightly furrowed.
It was Lin Weiwei.
Leaning against the wall, Lin Weiwei had her arms wrapped around another girl’s neck, their lips smacking loudly together as she deliberately let out suggestive moans.
Their eyes met across the distance.
Seeing her, Lin Weiwei didn’t restrain herself at all, instead, she moaned even louder.
This was clearly intentional.
Realizing this, Shen Baiyi raised her hand and knocked sharply on the classroom door. “If you want to fool around, take it outside. This is a place for studying.”
The other girl was startled by her voice and immediately shrank into Lin Weiwei’s embrace.
Lin Weiwei chuckled, holding the girl with one arm while giving Shen Baiyi an innocent look. “You just don’t understand dating girls feels so good and exciting. How could anyone resist?”
“Should I call a teacher to help you resist, then?” Shen Baiyi asked coolly.
This frightened the other girl so much that she started sobbing, tugging at Lin Weiwei to leave.
Lin Weiwei’s expression remained unchanged. “The teachers won’t interfere.”
They were already in their final year of high school, the teachers weren’t as strict as before. Besides her father had donated several buildings to the school.
“I can make them interfere,” Shen Baiyi said softly, her tone indifferent. “If you don’t believe me, go ahead and test it.”
Though her words weren’t particularly harsh, Lin Weiwei still felt a chill.
There was something about Shen Baiyi that made her impossible to underestimate.
So she conceded. “Fine, if you don’t like it, we’ll leave the classroom to you. Happy now?”
With that, she and her girlfriend held hands and walked away without hesitation.
Silence returned to the classroom.
Shen Baiyi sat down at her desk, expressionless. She thought she hadn’t let the incident bother her, but during her short fifteen-minute nap, she had an embarrassing dream.
In the dream, her sister appeared in the classroom.
In the exact spot where Lin Weiwei and that girl had kissed except this time, the protagonists were herself and her sister.
Half-hidden by the curtains, her sister looked like a beautiful enchantress, arms wrapped around her neck, pulling her down until their lips met.
They kissed for what felt like forever.
Her senses were filled with her sister’s fragrance, her ears with soft moans and whispers. She was completely lost in it until suddenly, the ground beneath her gave way, and they both began to fall.
She jolted awake instantly.
It was just the classroom.
The dream had only been a fleeting illusion.
Shen Baiyi pinched the bridge of her nose, her face burning uncontrollably. What kind of nonsense was her mind conjuring up?
Thinking back to the culprit, Lin Weiwei, Shen Baiyi’s frown deepened.
Her sister was right Lin Weiwei really was a bad influence.
Although her warning had worked Lin Weiwei hadn’t done anything similar in front of her in the following days ever since that dream, she couldn’t help but think strange things whenever she saw her sister.
Like now.
Returning home from evening self-study, she found her sister lying on the sofa, apparently drunk. The strong scent of alcohol filled the air, and her sister’s cheeks were flushed as she slept soundly on the couch.
She crouched down beside her, her gaze uncontrollably drawn to her sister’s lips.
Her sister must have eaten something spicy again her lips were red and slightly swollen, with a tiny fleck of red pepper clinging to them.
A smile unconsciously crept onto her face as she reached out to remove the pepper flake.
Her fingers brushed against the soft lips, and though she should have pulled back, the movement froze against her will.
That dream came back to her.
Her sister’s lips looked so soft they must feel nice to kiss.
But would her sister really make sounds like that?
She couldn’t imagine her sister making such noises, but it would probably be beautiful, wouldn’t it?
Her fingers unconsciously traced the soft lips, lingering at the seam before pressing down lightly.
