My Wife is a Frustrating Genius!!! - Chapter 62
Under the scorching sun, a chick held a soft and elastic pink golden bean in her hand as she walked through the barren desert.
Anxiously, she searched everywhere for water, hoping to transform this desolate black desert into a lush oasis with flowing streams all by herself.
She walked and walked, and finally, not far away, she discovered a fissure.
Believing she was close to salvation, the chick hurriedly clutched the pink golden bean and ran toward it, hoping to find the water that would allow her to survive.
With all her might, she rushed to the edge of the fissure and peered down, only to see tiny streams of water continuously bubbling up from below.
Overwhelmed with relief, the chick lay on the ground and couldn’t help but kiss the fissure, as if thanking it for giving her a second chance at life.
In the midst of her actions, she accidentally touched the pink golden bean in her hand and noticed that whenever she squeezed it tightly, more water would gush out from the fissure.
To test her theory, she knelt by the fissure and gently pinched the pink golden bean.
In an instant, the ground shook, and a breeze swept up layers of black sand, brushing against the chick’s face.
The once-tiny streams of water in the fissure, now under the influence of the golden bean, surged like a fountain, filling half of the chasm.
Stunned by the sight, the chick glanced around the desolate surroundings and then looked down at the life-sustaining water below. Summoning her courage, she gripped the golden bean tightly and jumped in.
For over twenty years, this place had remained undisturbed, but now, the intrusion pierced the water’s surface. The once-tranquil fissure seemed to react violently, its rocky walls contracting and pressing inward as if trying to expel the foreign object that had entered the water.
Having thirsted for so long, the chick finally tasted the water she had dreamed of day and night. She could survive now, but her body felt out of control, slowly sinking deeper into the abyss.
Floating in the water, the chick rose and fell with the waves, bobbing up and down. Moving in rhythm with the fissure, she observed her surroundings until she spotted a gleaming light deep within the water. With a sudden dive, she swam swiftly toward it.
Hidden within the fissure, a treasure was inadvertently discovered by the chick. She placed her claw upon it, feeling the warmth emanating from its surface.
As if fulfilling its long-held duty, the fissure, having guarded this treasure for over twenty years, unleashed a powerful jet of water, catching the unsuspecting chick off guard and expelling the “stinky chicken” who dared to steal the treasure from the chasm.
“The sun is already high in the sky, and we’ve both finished lunch. Why haven’t the young master and young mistress gotten up yet?” Guo’er looked at the food warming in the pot, worried that something might have happened to the two in their room.
“The young master just finished his exams. He probably stayed up late chatting with the young mistress last night, which is why they haven’t risen at this hour,” Lu An said, standing at the kitchen door. Though his words were meant to reassure Guo’er, his eyes remained fixed in the direction of the young master and young mistress’s room.
Hearing this, Guo’er pouted and glanced toward the door. She then got up and walked to the pavilion, intending to take out the calligraphy copybook her young mistress had left for her to practice writing.
In the room, two travelers who had just returned from the desert oasis to the real world finally groggily opened their eyes.
Cheng Yi squinted at the person across from her, then, enduring the pain in her body, turned her back to them, intending to sleep a little longer.
Lu Jiahe, who had already fully regained her energy, paid no mind to the other’s cold attitude. Instead, she mischievously snuggled up against Cheng Yi’s back and wrapped her arms around her.
“It’s hot, let go.” Cheng Yi clutched the blanket tightly, trying to kick the person sharing the bed with her out.
Hearing this, Lu Jiahe glanced at the bareness under the covers and said, “Then I’ll go to the ice cellar to fetch some ice.”
“Mm.” Cheng Yi didn’t care what Lu Jiahe was up to now; in her eyes, the most important thing was to get her out of the room.
“Alright.”
Lu Jiahe leaned in, planting a firm kiss on Cheng Yi’s cheek, then quickly got up, put on her clothes and shoes, and hurried out of the room toward the ice cellar.
In the pavilion, Guo’er and Lu An, who were practicing calligraphy, saw their young mistress emerge and immediately set down their brushes to follow her.
“Young Mistress, you’re finally up. Would you like to eat now? Should I go attend to the young madam and help her get up?” Guo’er hurriedly trailed behind her young mistress, unsure where she was rushing off to.
Hearing Guo’er mention entering the room to attend to Cheng Yi, Lu Jiahe abruptly stopped in her tracks. Guo’er and Lu An, who were following closely behind, couldn’t react in time and bumped into their young mistress.
“Young Mistress, are you alright?”
Seeing their young mistress stagger back a couple of steps, the two quickly stepped forward to support her, anxiously asking if she was hurt.
“I’m fine.”
Lu Jiahe scrutinized them carefully, worried that they might have overheard something they shouldn’t have the night before.
“No need. I’m giving you the day off today. You’ve both been busy for a long time without a break. Take advantage of the nice weather and go out for a stroll together. The young madam and I will eat out for dinner, so no need to worry about us.” With that, Lu Jiahe pulled two banknotes she had hidden in her clothes and handed them to Guo’er.
“Huh?” Guo’er stared in disbelief at the two hundred-tael banknotes shoved into her hand, looking at her young mistress in astonishment.
“What do you mean ‘huh’? Isn’t it good to have a day off and go out? Hurry up, go on now.”
Thinking of her wife waiting for the ice in the room, Lu Jiahe personally shooed the two out the door, then went to the ice cellar, fetched two blocks of ice, and returned to the room.
“Darling, feeling a bit cooler now?” Lu Jiahe kicked off her shoes, lay down on the bed, and snuggled up to her beloved wife.
Cheng Yi, with her eyes closed, pulled the blanket tighter and murmured, “Mm.”
“Are you hungry? Should I go to the kitchen to get some food?”
Under the covers, Cheng Yi rubbed her stomach. She was indeed a bit hungry, and the sticky, uncomfortable feeling on her body was hard to bear.
“Mm, and while you’re at it, heat some water. I’d like to bathe.”
“Alright.”
Following her wife’s orders, Lu Jiahe hurriedly got up and rushed to the kitchen. By the time she brought all the food back to the room, Cheng Yi had already put on her clothes.
Lu Jiahe, who had originally hoped to help her wife change and sneak in some affectionate touches, couldn’t help but show a flicker of disappointment on her face when she saw that Cheng Yi was already dressed in her inner garments.
Though Cheng Yi was exhausted and drained from the night’s events, she still caught the fleeting expression on Lu Jiahe’s face in that moment.
“Stinky chicken! Why is your mind always filled with such indecent thoughts!”
The moment she saw Lu Jiahe’s face, she couldn’t help but recall what had happened last night. The memory of herself crying and begging for him to stop while he persisted made her wish she could pluck all the feathers off this stinky chicken and choke him until he passed out.
“Come, my dear, you expended so much energy last night. Eat more to replenish yourself.” After serving Cheng Yi a bowl of porridge, Lu Jiahe kept adding dishes to her plate.
Hearing his words, Cheng Yi glared at him coldly, thinking that she must find a way to gain the upper hand in the matter of the “Bianjing Grand Canyon.”
Knock, knock, knock!
“Is anyone home? Why is the door locked so early in the morning? Is no one here?”
Urgent knocking and a familiar voice came from outside the house.
Recognizing who was outside, Lu Jiahe put down his chopsticks with displeasure.
Cheng Yi thought he was about to get up and answer the door, but after staring at him for a while, he showed no intention of leaving his seat. She turned to look at him, puzzled, and asked, “What’s wrong? Aren’t you going to open the door?”
Lu Jiahe frowned deeply, staring at the food on the table. After hesitating for a long time, he finally spoke, “I don’t want to. I don’t want to let her in. Can we pretend we’re not home?”
Hearing this, Cheng Yi suddenly grew curious about why Lu Jiahe’s attitude toward Xue Wanning had changed so drastically. She asked, “What’s the matter? Why don’t you want to let her in?”
“S-she has ill intentions toward you. I don’t want her getting too close to you.” As he spoke, Lu Jiahe’s voice grew increasingly aggrieved.
Realizing that the little chicken was jealous, Cheng Yi comforted him, “Just because she has feelings for me doesn’t mean I have to reciprocate. If that were the case, would I have let you be so unrestrained in bed last night?”
Lu Jiahe looked up, biting his lower lip as he gazed at his wife. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust her; he just didn’t trust Xue Wanning. After all, Xue had connections with the royal family. If she were to use forceful means to take Cheng Yi away from him, he truly wouldn’t know what to do.
“Don’t worry, go open the door. I’ll get dressed.” Cheng Yi leaned against Lu Jiahe’s shoulder, bringing her lips close to his for a gentle kiss.
Bolstered by his wife’s reassurance, Lu Jiahe finally stood up and went to open the main door.
Xue Wanning stood outside holding a gift. Seeing Lu Jiahe staring at her with a fierce expression, she wondered if something was following her.
She glanced left and right but saw nothing behind her except passersby. She then asked, “What’s wrong with your eyes? Is there something behind me?”
Lu Jiahe had intended to scare her off with his grim expression, but Xue Wanning mistakenly thought he had seen something she couldn’t.
Thinking of his elder brother, Lu Jiazheng, who had recently become obsessed with astrology and fortune-telling, Lu Jiahe put on a troubled expression and said, “Well, my elder brother studies astrology and fortune-telling, so I’ve picked up a thing or two. The moment I opened the door, I sensed a dark aura behind you.” As he spoke, he gave her a meaningful look.
Xue Wanning couldn’t help but shudder. Having served as a royal guard for many years, her hands were stained with the blood of justice. Though she believed her righteous energy could ward off evil spirits, Lu Jiahe’s words still sent a chill down her spine.
“It’s fine, I’ll go to the temple and pray when I have time.”
Xue Wanning didn’t want Lu Jiahe to see the fear in her heart, so she picked up her things and entered the Lu residence without waiting for the other’s consent.
After Cheng Yi changed clothes, she waited for a while but still didn’t see anyone coming in, so she got up and slowly walked out of the room toward the courtyard.
As Xue Wanning passed through the long corridor, she immediately spotted her princess. Smiling, she quickened her pace. But as she drew closer and could clearly see the red marks on the other’s neck.
Holy shit! My lady!
