My Wife is a Frustrating Genius!!! - Chapter 61
After being teased and fondled by Lu Jiahe in the room until her senses were nearly burned away, Cheng Yi seized the last shred of her rationality and delivered a series of punches, knocking the “shameless rogue” to the ground.
“Hurry up and get dressed so we can eat. Don’t you know we have to visit the examination hall later? What kind of nonsense fills your head all day?” Cheng Yi wrapped herself in the blanket, covering her upper body, which was now bare.
If she hadn’t also been enjoying the pleasure Lu Jiahe brought her, his fate would have been far worse than just being kicked off the bed.
Lu Jiahe’s inner robe was wide open at the collar. He shifted his position, sitting on the footstool with his hands propping him up, and looked pitifully at his wife.
“Darling, I just wanted to kiss you, to be close to you. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, if I’m not clinging to you every moment, it feels like my heart has been hollowed out.”
Hearing this, Cheng Yi rolled her eyes in exasperation. Seeing him pretend to be innocent made her angry, yet his words were filled with such affection for her that she couldn’t bring herself to say anything more.
“Get up now.”
She wrapped the blanket around herself, put on her half-dropped clothes, and then pulled the shameless man up from the floor. Blushing, she fastened his robe for him.
Lu Jiahe sat on the bed, reveling in everything she did for him. He half-closed his eyes, gazing at the woman who was diligently buttoning his clothes, never imagining that the once-temperamental her would reserve all her tenderness just for him.
In that moment, the fledgling feelings of love and attachment he held for Cheng Yi grew even deeper.
Outside in the courtyard, two people waited anxiously, not daring to approach the door, trying to come up with an excuse to barge into the room. But the next second, the door swung open.
“What are you two doing standing in the yard? Haven’t you had breakfast yet?” As Cheng Yi stepped out, she noticed Guo’er giving her a meaningful look and wondered if the girl had noticed something.
“We just brought the food over and were waiting for you and the young master to eat together,” Guo’er said. After experiencing many things since arriving in the capital, her ability to think on her feet had improved significantly.
Cheng Yi raised an eyebrow and scrutinized their expressions. Seeing no signs of deceit, she nodded and led Lu Jiahe to the pavilion for their meal.
After the four of them finished eating, they gathered their things and headed to the examination hall to familiarize themselves with the venue in advance.
The exam would last three consecutive days, meaning Lu Jiahe would have to stay in the examination compound for two nights.
Feeling sorry for her husband, who was actually a woman, Cheng Yi had long ago spent a considerable sum to have several high-quality cotton quilts custom-made by a tailor.
“Let me lay these out for you first. Tomorrow, when you rest, just remove the top sheet. Go on, try it out and see if it’s comfortable.” After making the bed, Cheng Yi gestured for Lu Jiahe to lie down.
Lu Jiahe complied, taking off her shoes and rolling around on the bed a few times before sitting up and shaking her head at Cheng Yi. “It’s not as comfortable as our bed, and there’s no one to hold.”
Hearing this, Cheng Yi quickly poked her head out and glanced around. Making sure no one nearby had overheard Lu Jiahe’s words, she hurried over and, blushing with a mix of embarrassment and annoyance, lightly punched him a couple of times with her small, pink fists.
“Just three days, bear with it.” With the exams approaching, Cheng Yi couldn’t resort to “violence” against Lu Jiahe and had to soothe her with gentle words.
Upon hearing this, Lu Jiahe immediately grinned at Cheng Yi. “Does my wife’s promise still stand?”
“What promise?” Cheng Yi looked at her in confusion. She had been so busy with Lu Jiahe’s affairs lately that she couldn’t recall what promise she had made.
“You know, that one!” Lu Jiahe said, even sticking out her tongue to lick her lips.
The two servants tidying up their master’s belongings, upon hearing their young mistress’s suggestive tone, quickly grabbed the items and slipped outside to prepare for the exams.
Seeing Lu Jiahe’s “lecherous” expression and hearing the loud slam of the door, Cheng Yi immediately understood what she was referring to.
Blushing, she bit her lower lip and glared at Lu Jiahe before retorting, “You have to do well in the exams first!”
Lu Jiahe chuckled at this. “Don’t worry, my wife, I definitely will.”
Cheng Yi had no patience for this lust-addled person and promptly picked up her things and left the room.
Realizing she had upset her, Lu Jiahe quickly got up and chased after her.
After locking the room, the group returned home to calmly await the next day.
That night, the two did nothing, and even their usual bedtime kiss was forcibly canceled by Cheng Yi.
Early the next morning, they both got up bright and early.
“Make sure you do well in the exams, understand?” Cheng Yi propped herself up and gently kissed the corner of Lu Jiahe’s mouth.
Sensing her expectations, Lu Jiahe nodded firmly. “Don’t worry, my wife. I will definitely use my own hands to change our lives and ensure you never suffer the hardships I’ve endured.”
“Tch!” Cheng Yi was deeply moved by this heartfelt confession. “Who said being with you means I’ll suffer? Who would dare bully me?”
“Right, I’m the one who needs my wife’s protection,” Lu Jiahe said, lying down on Cheng Yi’s lap and hugging her while acting coy.
Worried that Lu Jiahe might lose herself in their tender moments and forget her aspirations, Cheng Yi pushed her away, got out of bed, and dressed.
The capital was especially lively that day. Young ladies from every household, accompanied by their maids, ventured out to watch the scholars heading to the exams, hoping to pick out a reliable husband from among them.
Cheng Yi saw Lu Jiahe off at the academy gate, gave her a few words of advice, and as soon as she entered, took Guo’er and Lu An back home to deal with the ice in the ice cellar.
Once inside the examination hall, Lu Jiahe was no longer the lust-obsessed person she was when with Cheng Yi. She knew exactly why she was taking the exams, she no longer wanted to depend on the Lu family. She wanted to rely on herself and Cheng Yi to build a home of their own.
The exams lasted three days. Each day, Cheng Yi personally carried an insulated wooden box filled with ice to the examination hall, handing it over to the officials inside. She even humbled herself, smiling and discreetly bribing the guards at the gate, all to ensure Lu Jiahe could eat fresh, unspoiled food.
By the end of those three days, Cheng Yi felt more exhausted than the candidates themselves.
Day after day, she endured until finally, the day arrived when Lu Jiahe emerged from the examination hall.
“My lady!” Lu Jiahe emerged from the examination hall and immediately spotted his wife standing anxiously nearby, peering intently toward the compound. He quickened his pace to approach her. “Are you feeling hot?” he asked while pulling out a handkerchief to gently wipe the sweat from Cheng Yi’s forehead.
Cheng Yi was too nervous to speak. She dared not ask how his exam had gone, much like how she had resented her own family’s inquiries about her college entrance exam results years ago. Until the official results were announced, she didn’t want to add any psychological burden to Lu Jiahe.
“It’s alright. Are you hungry? I prepared some delicious food at home. Shall we go back and eat?” Cheng Yi reached out to take the book bag Lu Jiahe was carrying.
“Alright.” Lu Jiahe shifted slightly. “My lady, I can carry this myself. I can’t bear to see you doing such heavy work.”
Cheng Yi shot him a look that was both embarrassed and annoyed before linking arms with him to walk back to the Lu residence.
After returning home, they ate dinner quietly. Even after washing up and retiring to bed that evening, Lu Jiahe couldn’t understand why his wife had been so distant with him all day.
“My lady?”
Unable to sleep with this weighing on his mind, he opened his eyes and looked down at the woman in his arms.
“Hmm?” Cheng Yi hadn’t been asleep either. She was desperately curious about Lu Jiahe’s exam performance but didn’t know how to broach the subject.
“Why haven’t you asked me how the exam went?”
Cheng Yi hadn’t expected him to bring it up first. She finally voiced what had been troubling her: “I didn’t want to put pressure on you.”
“It’s fine,” Lu Jiahe reassured her, noticing the tension in her brow beginning to ease. “Have you forgotten our promise? We agreed never to keep anything from each other.”
Cheng Yi nestled deeper into his embrace. “I haven’t forgotten.”
“Don’t worry, my lady. Even if I don’t achieve the top scholar rank, I should at least qualify as a provincial graduate. With some luck, becoming a metropolitan graduate isn’t impossible either.”
“So confident?” Cheng Yi lifted her head to look at the man making such bold claims.
Lu Jiahe chuckled softly. “Don’t worry. Even if I achieve nothing, I can still teach at the academy. I’ll definitely be able to provide for you.”
Recognizing the teasing tone in his voice, Cheng Yi lightly pinched his waist.
“Ouch, my lady.”
Lu Jiahe caught her wrist and swiftly rolled over, pinning her beneath him.
“My lady, I’ve been thinking of you constantly these past few days.” As he spoke, he gradually lowered himself until his lips hovered near hers.
His warm breath fanned across Cheng Yi’s face. She knew he was seeking his reward.
“During such an important examination, what were you thinking about all day!” Cheng Yi tapped his forehead reproachfully.
Lu Jiahe grinned and buried his face beside hers, nuzzling her ear. “Thinking of you.”
Like a little chick, his nimble lips began pecking open the clothing that enveloped the kitten-like woman beneath him.
Cheng Yi knew there was no escaping this. As an adult, she didn’t oppose intimate moments with her girlfriend. In fact, she rather looked forward to them.
But since this was her first time experiencing such intimacy, she couldn’t help feeling both shy and apprehensive.
Gradually, soft, suppressed murmurs emerged from the kitten’s nest, making the mischievous chick even more restless.
The chick gently smoothed down the kitten’s fur, which had bristled with tension. Under such coaxing, the kitten couldn’t help but clutch the troublemaking chick tightly with its paws, stiffening as it allowed the pesky chick to have its way.
