My Wife is a Frustrating Genius!!! - Chapter 58
Tsk! Such unspeakable words!
Upon hearing Lu Jiahe read the contents of the notebook aloud, the others halted their actions.
Li Damao, who had been lying on the ground pleading pitifully, stopped his wailing. The rest of the group stared at the man who had suddenly fallen into their courtyard with strange expressions.
Lu Jiahe spent her days diligently studying orthodox texts, and though she occasionally indulged in romance novels like “The Domineering Young Master Loves Only You,” she had never encountered such vulgar content before.
“Filth! Utter filth!”
“Where did this come from? It defies all human decency!” Lu Jiahe closed the notebook and rubbed her temples.
Li Damao was taken aback by her words, wondering why she had brought ethics and morality into this.
To maintain his cover, he couldn’t explain too much to them, so he cried out, “T-this is something I wrote in my spare time. Though I work as a cook at the tavern in the west of the city, I’ve always aspired to be a scholar. So, in my free time, I jot down a few lines.”
“Is your protagonist male or female? Married or not?” Lu Jiahe clasped her hands behind her back, looking sternly at the man before her.
Li Damao glanced up at the young master. “She’s a woman, and well, she’s married.”
“If the protagonist in your story is already married, why would you have another young master take advantage of her?”
Only then did Li Damao understand, the other party had misinterpreted the situation. He swallowed hard and replied, “My protagonist is a wonderful person, but that young master is morally corrupt! He forced himself upon her, he’s utterly despicable!”
In this roundabout way, Li Damao had managed to curse Lu Jiahe, and he couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction.
Cheng Yi, standing to the side, grew impatient listening to their irrelevant back-and-forth. “Enough, stop arguing. Let him write whatever he wants.”
Since his wife had spoken, Lu Jiahe saw no point in continuing the quarrel.
She tossed the notebook back at the man, then fetched some rope and, together with Guo’er and Lu An, tied him up.
“Our mistress is being merciful today by not cutting out your tongue or gouging your eyes. If you dare climb onto our roof to spy again, you won’t be spared!”
Guo’er had picked up many intimidating phrases from her young mistress lately. She glared fiercely at Li Damao before she and Lu An dragged him outside the main gate.
To show their mistress’s kindness, Guo’er specially took a skewer of grilled meat from Cheng Yi and stuffed it into Li Damao’s mouth.
Clutching the meat skewer between his teeth, Li Damao watched as the gate slammed shut.
At that moment, he felt incredibly fortunate. Though his surveillance mission had failed, getting to taste something made by his princess firsthand felt like a blessing from his ancestors.
As consolation, the moment the gate closed, he used a hidden weapon to cut the ropes binding his hands. Clutching the fragrant meat skewer, he hurried back to the princess’s residence to report.
Because of the night’s events, the group didn’t linger in the courtyard after finishing their meal. They cleaned up the trash and leftovers before retiring to their respective rooms.
“Where do you want to go after your exams are over?” Cheng Yi sat at the dressing table, removing the hairpins from her hair one by one.
Lu Jiahe sat on the bed, shaking her head as she looked at the other person. “If I do well in the exams, I’ll have to follow the court’s arrangements. But if I don’t do well, shall we take Grandma and go to my maternal grandmother’s place in Jiangnan?”
“Jiangnan, huh?” Cheng Yi thought back to her travels to Jiangnan in the modern era. “That sounds nice, but does your grandmother want to come with us?”
“I’m not sure, but she probably will.” Lu Jiahe took off her shoes and placed her feet into the basin of warm water.
After both had finished washing up, they lay back down on the bed.
Cheng Yi reflected on the events of the past half year. No matter how she looked at it, she never imagined she would meet someone she loved here, someone who, like her, was a woman, and who had poured everything into letting her pursue her own desires.
She turned on her side, gazing at the other’s delicate features, and couldn’t resist reaching out to gently stroke her face.
Ever since her parents passed away, her relatives had treated her like a jinx. Aside from endless blame, no one cared about how she felt after losing her parents.
She had been a victim in that car accident too, yet her own flesh and blood pointed fingers at her with the vilest words. Unable to bear the psychological pressure any longer, she had ended up joining this time-travel journey.
Now, Cheng Yi didn’t know whether to thank those relatives of hers or resent them.
If not for them, she wouldn’t have come here and met Lu Jiahe, who treated her so well. If not for them, she wouldn’t have left behind every trace her parents had left her in that era.
“That tickles.” Lu Jiahe’s eyelashes fluttered as she caught the mischievous hand on her face and held it to her chest.
Hearing this, Cheng Yi stopped her movements, a smile spreading across her face as she shifted closer to the other.
She parted her lips and planted a soft kiss on the other’s chin, then whispered shyly, “Let’s sleep.”
Now fully awake from the sweet atmosphere, Lu Jiahe tightened her arms around Cheng Yi. “You’ve taken advantage of me, and now you’re just going to sleep?”
“What do you want, then?”
“Another kiss.” Lu Jiahe pointed to her own lips, signaling where she wanted to be kissed.
“You cheeky rascal!”
Cheng Yi pretended to be displeased and gave her a light shove, then wrapped her arms around Lu Jiahe’s shoulders and pressed her lips to the other’s.
During the time Lu Jiahe was studying at home, Cheng Yi took on the role of a devoted partner, caring for her in every way possible.
From daily necessities to intimate moments in bed at night, she never refused any of Lu Jiahe’s requests. Of course, Lu Jiahe never made any unreasonable demands.
Immersed in the warmth of love, the two were no longer satisfied with simple acts of affection like kissing.
Though they occasionally ventured into deeper explorations, they never crossed the final boundary.
“Are you uncomfortable?” Lu Jiahe, wrapped in the blanket, looked down at the woman beneath her, whose face was flushed pink, and couldn’t help but swallow hard.
“It’s fine.” Cheng Yi felt as if she were about to burst into flames from the heat. Though her legs were weak, she mustered all her strength to push the person pinning her down to the other side of the bed. “It’s too hot. I need to take a bath.”
Both of them had gotten carried away earlier. If Cheng Yi hadn’t snapped back to her senses at the critical moment, they might have ended up creating the heir the entire Lu family was eagerly anticipating tonight.
“Let me help you.” Lu Jiahe got out of bed and followed Cheng Yi like a shadow.
Cheng Yi, who was already trying to avoid Lu Jiahe because of that matter, felt even more embarrassed when the other insisted on following her to help with her bath.
“Go to sleep! I can wash myself.” She had just stepped out of the room when she turned back, glaring at Lu Jiahe with anger in her eyes.
Oh no, why is she angry again?
Seeing her fierce expression, Lu Jiahe quickly halted his steps. “Are you sure you can manage? I was worried you might be too tired. If I help, you could save some energy.”
Taking advantage of her distraction, he began inching his way toward the door in small steps.
Noticing his movement, Cheng Yi gritted her teeth and shot him a sharp glare. “If you dare step into the bathing room, I’ll kill you tomorrow. I mean what I say.”
Lu Jiahe carefully studied the expression on Cheng Yi’s face. Seeing that she truly didn’t want him to follow her into the bathing room, he pouted, looking aggrieved, and stood by the door staring at her.
Ignoring his deliberate attempt at acting cute, Cheng Yi reached out and closed the door, then headed to the kitchen to heat water for her bath.
Li Damao, crouched on the roof, had overheard the intimate sounds from inside the room and was filled with sorrow. He never expected that his visit would lead him to witness such a scene.
Fortunately, Aunt Xue had given him some instructions before he came. As soon as he heard the soft moans of his princess, he leaped off the roof and rushed back to the princess’s residence to gather help.
Xue Wanning, who had been woken from her deep sleep late at night, collapsed to the ground upon hearing what Li Damao reported.
Although she had long anticipated this day, hearing it confirmed firsthand was still hard to accept.
“You’ve been to the Lu residence before, right? Go hide inside. I’ll bring people in to catch you,” Xue Wanning said, clenching her fists and frowning at Li Damao.
Li Damao froze at her words. What did she mean? Did she want him to leave the impression of a peeping tom in front of his princess?
Reading the confusion in his expression, Xue Wanning calmly picked up a cup of tea from the table, blew on it to cool it, and took a sip.
“Do you think being tied up and thrown out of the Lu residence last time left a good impression on the princess?” She lifted her head to look at him. “This time, you can hide inside using a different excuse. No one said you have to play the role of a peeping tom.”
Xue Wanning was the second-in-command of their group of covert guards. With the princess absent, aside from obeying the old emperor, she was the only one who could give them orders.
Li Damao lowered his head, wrestling with his thoughts. After pondering for a long while, he finally negotiated some conditions with Xue Wanning.
“After the princess regains her memory, you have to explain things to her on my behalf. I don’t want her to misunderstand me and hold a grudge. I am a loyal supporter of the emperor. If my own master distrusts me, how can I continue to serve her in the future?”
“Don’t worry. Once the princess regains her memory, I’ll make sure you’re cleared,” Xue Wanning assured him. Seeing that he agreed to her plan, she gathered a dozen officers, explained the strategy to them, and then sent Li Damao ahead to hide in the Lu residence.
His steps were heavy, and his eyes were tightly shut.
In that moment, Li Damao seemed to carry the aura of one ready to die for his sovereign.
He glanced back at the princess’s residence, thinking that for the sake of his master, even if his face were trampled upon by countless people, he would endure it!
Suddenly, Li Damao felt as if he were filled with strength. He straightened his brows, lifted his feet, and dashed swiftly toward the Lu residence.
Xue Wanning calculated the time inside the house. After about a quarter of an hour, she led the officers to the Lu residence.
Bang, bang, bang!
“Open up! Open up!”
Cheng Yi had just finished bathing when he heard the loud knocking at the gate. He walked to the entrance and shouted, “Who is it, coming here in the middle of the night?”
