My Wife Became a Top Star After I Came Back from Quick Transmigration - Chapter 14
Lin Mo had no idea what the fans watching the broadcast were thinking.
She placed a soft pillow under Su Qixi’s head, then leaned back in her seat to rest.
The bus had been on the highway for about an hour before it got off and onto a national road.
After bumping along for ten minutes on the national road, it finally turned onto a small, concrete road. Soon, the car seemed to leave the human world and enter a world of green mountains and clear water.
Lin Mo was the first to wake up. She was a light sleeper and, unlike the other guests, she hadn’t come from another job.
Lately, she hadn’t been working, so she was well-rested.
She first turned to look at Su Qixi, who had, at some point, moved from leaning against the window to leaning against her arm.
Lin Mo could only keep her arm still and shake her head.
She then looked out the window and was stunned. Between the green mountains and clear water, the bus was driving on a narrow concrete road. With the road as a dividing line, one side was a clear lake and the other was an endless field.
She looked up and saw that the sky was clear, and two drones were flying overhead, likely for the show’s footage.
The person next to her moved, and Lin Mo looked down.
She saw Su Qixi’s eyelashes fluttering. Her eyes weren’t open yet, but her hand was already raised to scratch her head.
She mumbled something sleepily, but it was hard to tell what she was saying.
“Are you awake?”
Su Qixi heard the familiar question by her ear. Time seemed to fly by, and it felt like one of those mornings when they used to wake up together. She lifted her head, looked at Lin Mo, and gave a sweet, soft smile. “I’m up.”
Lin Mo took a deep breath. She’s being so gentle with me all of a sudden. I’m not used to it yet.
Su Qixi came to her senses after the words left her mouth. Her expression stiffened, and she pretended to sit up straight, touching her hair.
[Hahahahahahaha.]
[Aaaahhhh, it must be real, right?!]
[Umm… I don’t think so, but I kind of want to become a fan.]
[Come on, you won’t regret it!]
Su Qixi secretly glanced at Lin Mo, who was drinking from what was probably her own thermos. She took a big gulp, gulp gulp.
Su Qixi turned away, her eyes having nowhere to go. She finally looked out the window. Seeing that the scenery outside was nice, she rolled the window down a little. A cool breeze blew through the gap, messing up her bangs and revealing her slightly full forehead. The sunlight streamed through the window and warmed her face, making her feel lazy.
After a while, the breeze finally calmed Su Qixi down.
She then remembered who invited Lin Mo to the show. She must have signed a contract. With whom? She was in debt. How much did they offer her for one episode?
These random worries made her finally close the window, lean toward Lin Mo, and ask in a low voice, “Who called you?”
Lin Mo: “Huh?”
Su Qixi stopped breathing, frowned at her, and said, “I said, how did you get here?”
Lin Mo smiled. “I came by plane.”
“Lin Mo!” Su Qixi immediately called her name.
Lin Mo raised her hands. “Okay, okay, let’s talk properly. I’ll be serious.”
[Hahahahaha, Ms. Pig got scared and backed down.]
[Oh my God, their relationship is so good! I’m loving this!]
[Ms. Pig is so bold, she dares to tease my darling SuSu.]
[Oh no, even the solo-idol fans are getting hooked.]
[What are they whispering about?]
[If they’re not letting us hear it, we’ll assume it’s something scandalous.]
Lin Mo did talk properly, but it wasn’t scandalous. Instead, she said, “A producer said they’d give me 100,000 for one episode. I thought it was okay, so I agreed.”
Su Qixi gasped. That’s so cheap! Lin Mo’s popularity is tied to me! Only 100,000 for one episode?!
This makes me so mad!!! How can they bully her like this!!! I’m so angry!!! She completely forgot that the producer was likely her best friend.
Lin Mo saw her angry but holding it in and chuckled. “Don’t be mad. I didn’t agree. They took a step back and said they’d increase my salary if the ratings were high.”
Su Qixi immediately argued back, “What makes you think I’m mad?”
Lin Mo: “…” With your mouth pouting like that, anyone can tell you’re mad!
Su Qixi continued to ask her angrily, “How much of a raise will you get if the ratings are good?”
Lin Mo replied confidently, “Who’s the butcher and who’s the fish, that depends on what happens later.”
Su Qixi: “Do you think they’ll let you be the one in charge? You’re thinking too simply about the entertainment industry.”
Lin Mo leaned in and whispered, “Before I came on the show, I did some research on your industry. But the information I could access was limited, not as much as a fan club leader would know. But I can make some guesses about this show.”
“This show has had four seasons, and the ratings for each season have plummeted. This season hasn’t been sold to a TV station yet, which is a nice way of saying it. Actually, given last season’s ratings, it should have been canceled. If you look at it that way, it’s not that it hasn’t been sold, but that no TV station wants to buy it, right? So they’re taking a risk by using an online platform. If it becomes a hit online, they can re-edit it and sell it for a high price. It can also build a foundation for the next season. Besides, even if it doesn’t become a hit, with the Douyin partnership, they’ll make money from the live stream. They won’t lose money.”
Su Qixi was stunned. She looked at Lin Mo without saying a word. Everything Lin Mo said was true; Yimei’er had made the same calculations.
During the live stream, they could earn a lot of money from product placement.
Lin Mo: “Considering the guests, they’ve invited some with high popularity, and their prices must not be low either. A show that’s about to be canceled can be this extravagant, even more so than the third season’s lineup. They must have gotten new investors. If someone is willing to invest, it’s either because they see a bright future or they’re gambling on a big hit. This season will either be a huge success or a huge failure. So, whether I get paid and how much I get paid depends on how the public feels about me.”
“If my reputation is good, then I’ll have leverage in negotiations. If not, then I’ll be the fish waiting to be butchered.” Lin Mo said it all so casually, as if she had everything under control. But then she added, “But 100,000 per episode is a huge deal for me right now!”
Su Qixi: “…Are you here because of the 100,000?”
Lin Mo chuckled. “That’s definitely one of the reasons.”
And with that, she earned a dirty look from Su Qixi, who then turned away and ignored her.
Lin Mo: “???”
Lin Mo was so confused. She looked bewildered.
What did I do?
She lowered her head and sent a message to her group chat, asking for help. That’s right, Lin Mo only knew her high school classmates, so her support system could only be them.
Lin Mo innocently explained what happened. Deng Jingrou replied, annoyed: [Why did you say so much? Who wants to hear all that nonsense?]
Lin Mo: […It’s not that much nonsense, is it?]
Huang Rongrong sneered and questioned her: [She asked if you came for the 100,000, and you couldn’t just say, “I came for you.” Why not just say that???]
Lin Mo, innocently: [I did come for her! So I said the 100,000 was just a factor.]
Huang Rongrong: […That factor is not necessary to mention.]
Qin Ke: [Next time, don’t analyze things. Say something nice. Women love hearing nice things, and you’re good-looking, so the effect will be doubled.]
Lin Mo: [But she was the one who asked why I came!]
Tao Shu: […Just listen to us. We know more about this than you do.]
Lin Mo was silent for a moment and then replied: [Okay.]
Meanwhile, in the comments section, everyone was laughing at Lin Mo, who had just been glared at again.
[Ms. Pig, what did you say to make our SuSu so angry?]
[By the way, considering the standards of the other guests, Su Qixi and Ms. Pig appearing on this show together is pretty much a public announcement, right?]
[I think it’s official. Long live Kirin!!! Aaaahhhh!]
Su Qixi looked at the passing scenery outside the window and couldn’t help but smile.
