- My 'White Moonlight' First Love Came Back, but I Don't Love her Anymore
- Chapter 27 - Ning Ning’s Heart Rate Is So High
Inside the observation room of “Romantic Sky.”
“Welcome, everyone, to the Romantic Sky observation room. I am your observer, Liang Yumeng.”
“Next, let us welcome the other members of our observation room.”
The observation room consisted primarily of four people: the host, Liang Yumeng; girl group member, Fang Jing; emotional mentor, Yang Hui; and Huasheng CEO, Yan Jiuqing.
“After a day of observation, I believe everyone has gained a deep understanding of the interaction styles between the three couples. I wonder which couple everyone is rooting for?”
Fang Jing was the first to speak, her tone unable to hide her excitement. “I am rooting for Sister Yuening’s group. I think their way of interacting is truly relaxed and interesting. I met Sister Yuening once during a program recording; her aura is incredibly powerful. She is a cold, elegant beauty, but in front of Sister Wanyan, she seems like a different person.”
Liang Yumeng smiled. “It seems that unique softness only reveals itself in front of a loved one.”
Was this Fang Jing not online at all? To root for a couple with someone else right in front of the official girlfriend was bold.
“Teacher Yang, which group do you favor more?”
Yang Hui thought for a moment and said, “Liao Baiwei’s group. Lively and cute paired with mature and steady; different styles of emotional expression have a high probability of sparking the flames of love.”
Fang Jing’s eyes lit up, and she nodded quickly. “I like that group too!”
Liang Yumeng glanced at Yan Jiuqing, who was sitting quietly on the sofa, and asked politely, “President Yan, which style of emotional expression do you prefer?”
As soon as these words were uttered, it was like a crack of thunder, causing the atmosphere to fall into awkwardness. A few seconds later, Yan Jiuqing gave a faint smile, her voice sweet and clear. “I actually think Xia He’s group is quite good. At the very least, they do not go out of their way to show off.”
Liang Yumeng silently broke into a sweat. She was going to file for a worker’s compensation claim!
“Actually, every group’s interaction is unique. We have a task today as well. We have to guess which group will choose which room. If any of us guesses correctly, we can choose one group to ask a relationship question.”
Fang Jing raised a question. “But there is a specific order. What if someone wants a room that has already been taken by another group?”
Liang Yumeng replied, “Do not worry. Next, we will watch the results of their Heartbeat Game and make our predictions based on the sequence.”
Yan Jiuqing said confidently, “No problem for me.”
She still understood Yan Yan very well.
Meanwhile, the comment section had already exploded. Several versions of analysis regarding this dramatic event were circulating. Some said that after Zhou Wanyan broke up with Yan Jiuqing, she was scouted by Luo Yuening and was now being kept by her side. Others claimed that after the breakup, Yan Jiuqing realized she still loved Zhou Wanyan, lowered her status, and followed her to the show, willing to endure seeing Zhou Wanyan being affectionate with someone else.
But the most popular version was that Zhou Wanyan was caught two-timing; she was now being kept by Luo Yuening, but Yan Jiuqing still loved her, which is why she pursued her to the show. The fact that Zhou Wanyan was willing to pay astronomical liquidated damages to leave Huasheng for Rubik’s Cube seemed to confirm this speculation. Even Zhou Wanyan’s stage name had been dug up.
“I did not expect Zhou Wanyan to be Yan Yi. I also did not expect the person who could write ‘Late Summer’ to be a two-timer.”
“Yan Jiuqing is beautiful and wealthy, yet she still got cheated on?”
“She looks so gentle, but her actions are actually quite disgusting.”
“Even if she is Yan Yi, so what? If there is a violation of principles, she should be boycotted.”
“I do not believe Yan Yi is that kind of person. Besides, there is no way Luo Luo would be the third wheel.”
“To the person above, has Luo Yuening not had plenty of girlfriends? If it is not a new one every month, it is close. Her reputation is already a pile of ruins.”
“Those are all just rumors, okay? Have you ever seen Luo Luo admit to anyone?”
“Can Luo Yuening’s fans stop deceiving themselves? Is it that hard to admit she is the third wheel?”
“It was clearly Zhou Wanyan two-timing. How did it become Luo Luo being the third wheel?”
A hashtag titled “Yan Yi the Slag Girl” was pushed to the top of the trending searches with abnormal speed. The direction of public opinion on the internet suddenly tilted to one side, as if a pair of invisible giant hands were silently controlling everything behind the scenes.
On the other side, the participants were discussing who would start first, completely unaware of the bloodbath occurring on Weibo.
Liao Baiwei said, “Sister Yun, let us start first.”
Qi Yun nodded and followed Liao Baiwei to the mats in the center. Zhou Wanyan sat in her chair, watching with interest.
Luo Yuening whispered, “Yan Yan, do you want to choose first?”
Zhou Wanyan replied, “Of course. Out of these three, Cozy Home Style sounds the most normal. I imagine they will choose that too.”
A trace of a successful smile flashed in Luo Yuening’s eyes. That one is the most abnormal. Yan Yan, you are still too young.
Luo Yuening said softly, “Then Yan Yan will have to work hard, or else you won’t be able to pick it.”
Hearing this, Zhou Wanyan turned around, looked at Luo Yuening, and smiled. “Why do I hear a bit of schadenfreude in your voice?”
Luo Yuening withdrew her slight smile and feigned coolness, snorting, “I do not have any. Do not measure the heart of a gentleman with your petty thoughts.”
Zhou Wanyan gave a perfunctory smile and ignored her.
Over on the mat, Liao Baiwei’s heart rate just would not go up. Qi Yun’s was better than hers, but still not high. The two decided to use other methods to accelerate their heart rates. For example, Qi Yun chose to pinch herself; though it was not a great method, it worked.
Qi Yun’s heart rate rose rapidly. Liao Baiwei was stunned, then noticed the movement of Qi Yun’s hand on her leg. She suddenly understood and breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed she had misunderstood.
Liao Baiwei seemed to think of something; she stole a glance at Zhou Wanyan behind Qi Yun. The thoughts in her mind made her feel incredibly shy, and the feeling of a racing heart became exceptionally obvious.
Zhou Wanyan was completely oblivious. She looked up at the heart rates increasing on the screen and felt puzzled. How did it go up so fast in such a short time? Did they suddenly fall in love?
When time was up, their heart rates were: Liao Baiwei: 115 beats per minute. Qi Yun: 100 beats per minute.
Xia He did not care much about which room to choose, as long as the chosen room was close to Luo Yuening’s. President Yan, you promised me. You better deliver. It would not be for nothing that she had been trying so hard to please Luo Yuening.
Li Jia said with a half-smile, “What are you thinking about, baby? You are certainly dedicated enough.”
Xia He replied, “Nothing, baby. I was just thinking about how to get the room you like.”
Li Jia’s tone was sickly sweet, but her eyes were devoid of emotion. “Then I really have to thank you, baby. You are too sweet.”
Xia He and Li Jia were the next to go to the mats.
Liao Baiwei’s position was directly opposite Zhou Wanyan. She first glanced at the frost-faced Luo Yuening, then let her gaze fall on Zhou Wanyan. She whispered, “Zhou Wanyan, have you thought of a way to quickly raise your heart rate?”
Zhou Wanyan glanced at the camera pointed right at them and lowered her voice. “Pain can quickly raise your heart rate and is not easily noticed.”
Hearing this, Qi Yun, who was beside Liao Baiwei, looked up. Luo Yuening gave them a faint glance, her eyes now veiled in a layer of frost. She picked up the crystal glass beside her and drained the red wine in one gulp. Her moist red lips, stained with wine, looked like roses blooming in the dark, vividly charming yet carrying a hint of danger.
“Do not worry. We will definitely win.”
A trace of complexity appeared in Zhou Wanyan’s eyes, and a strange feeling arose in her heart. “Do not drink anymore; it is bad for your health.”
Luo Yuening’s eyes flickered. “Okay, I will listen to you.”
She was like a cat with its fur standing on end; one moment her claws were out, and the next she was easily pacified by a single sentence, retracting her thorns to show her soft side.
Zhou Wanyan raised her hand, using a silk handkerchief to lightly wipe the corner of Luo Yuening’s lips. “It is dirty.”
Luo Yuening’s breathing hitched for a second. “Is it clean now?”
Zhou Wanyan said, “It is clean. Do you want to check?”
Luo Yuening lowered her eyes to hide the panic within. “No need. If it is not wiped clean, I will deduct your salary.”
At that moment, the sound of Xia He’s group’s heart rate readings rang out, completely drowning out Luo Yuening’s weak voice. Zhou Wanyan did not hear her and asked instinctively, “What?”
Luo Yuening replied, “Nothing. It is our turn.”
On the soft mat, the two sat facing each other, their fingers interlocking and eyes meeting. Luo Yuening’s expression was solemn. Through their joined hands, Zhou Wanyan could feel her body seemed to be in a state of tension.
Zhou Wanyan teased, “Are you nervous?”
Luo Yuening bit her lower lip. “I am not. I would not be nervous.”
Zhou Wanyan tilted her chin up, signaling Luo Yuening to look up. “Then why is your heart rate already at 140?”
Luo Yuening hurriedly looked away from Zhou Wanyan’s gaze and said with feigned composure, “I was pinching myself.”
Zhou Wanyan tightened her grip on Luo Yuening’s hands slightly, then raised an eyebrow. Luo Yuening finally realized their fingers were still interlocked. Her cheeks instantly flushed crimson, and in a mix of shame and anger, she squeezed back hard, engaging in a silent contest of strength.
Distinct red marks appeared on the back of Zhou Wanyan’s hand.
“If you use any more force, my heart rate will go up too.”
Hearing this, Luo Yuening froze for a moment. She saw that Zhou Wanyan’s heart rate on the screen was steadily rising. Only then did she understand Zhou Wanyan’s intention. She no longer held back and squeezed with all her might.
Zhou Wanyan hissed in pain and her face turned red, but it was from the pain. “Alright, alright. Any more force and my hand will be ruined.”
Luo Yuening said, “Oh.”
The others could only see their blushing cheeks and shy smiles.
Li Jia said with a half-smile, “They really are affectionate.”
The speaker was purposeful, and the listener took it to heart. Xia He gave Li Jia a deep look, her voice flat. “Yes, Zhou Wanyan is truly second to none when it comes to making girls happy. Why don’t I go and learn from her so I can make you happy?”
Li Jia replied, “No need, baby. I am very satisfied just knowing you have the heart to do so.”
Xia He smiled without a word. Her evaluation of Li Jia was that she was every bit the actress.
Liao Baiwei exclaimed, “Yan Yan, look! Sister Luo’s heart rate is so high!”
The large screen prominently displayed: Luo Yuening, heart rate 150 beats per minute.
“Yan Yan, your heart rate is also very high. It looks like your group will be the first to choose!”
“Zhou Wanyan, heart rate 130 beats per minute.”
Zhou Wanyan’s expression remained calm as she waited for the final results to be announced. Luo Yuening stood quietly by her side, unable to stop herself from imagining how wonderful it would be if Zhou Wanyan’s heart rate had spiked because of her.
She glanced at Zhou Wanyan out of the corner of her eye and noticed that she was repeatedly rotating her right wrist in small circles.
Luo Yuening asked in a low voice, “What is wrong with your wrist?”
Zhou Wanyan stopped moving and said gently, “It is nothing. Just a minor issue.”
Luo Yuening stared at her silently, her sharp gaze full of disbelief.
Zhou Wanyan compromised, “I will tell you when we get back.”
Luo Yuening let out a soft snort, the diamond necklace around her neck sparkling under the lights. “That is more like it.”
The result was obvious: Luo Yuening and Zhou Wanyan had priority. Zhou Wanyan did not hesitate for a second. “Cozy Home Style.”
The smile in Luo Yuening’s eyes deepened. Lin Qi suppressed a giggle. “Alright, next is Liao Baiwei’s group.”
Liao Baiwei had the same idea as Xia He, but since Liao Baiwei was ahead in the order, Xia He’s group ended up with a room on the second floor, while the other two groups were on the third. Lin Qi then announced that the filming for this episode had concluded. Everyone dropped their pretenses and revealed their true personalities.
At the third-floor staircase, Liao Baiwei said, “Yan Yan, our room is on the first floor. If you get bored, come down and play with me!”
Zhou Wanyan replied politely, “Okay.”
Luo Yuening gave them a faint glance and walked toward their room alone. Seeing this, Zhou Wanyan hurried to catch up. “What is it? Are you angry?”
Luo Yuening muttered under her breath, “What right do I have to be angry? I am not your wife.”
Zhou Wanyan took Luo Yuening by the wrist and coaxed her softly, “Did we not say we would be friends again? As a friend, how could you not have a right? Let us just go in and see the room.”
Luo Yuening complied awkwardly, though the sensation at her wrist caused an indescribable sense of bashfulness to ripple through her body.
Zhou Wanyan pushed open the heavy black walnut door. A dizzying, delicate fragrance wafted toward them, and her eyes met a warm, inviting interior. She walked further into the room, and behind a landscape-painted screen, she was met with a surprise.
Warm orange ambient lighting enveloped the entire space in a sweet filter, making the air itself feel heated. The bed was draped in top-tier silk bedding, but the items on the cart at the foot of the bed made Zhou Wanyan’s breath hitch for a moment.
Cozy Home Style? How could there be such things?
While Luo Yuening was not looking, Zhou Wanyan let go of her wrist, rushed to the cart, and threw a spare bedsheet over it.
Luo Yuening was confused. “What are you hiding so sneakily?”
Zhou Wanyan played dumb. “Nothing. I just thought the things on the cart looked too messy. It was bothering me.”
The smile vanished from Luo Yuening’s face. Her eyes flickered with suspicion as she looked at Zhou Wanyan. “I do not believe you. Let me see.”
As she spoke, Luo Yuening stepped forward to lift the sheet. Zhou Wanyan tried to stop her while trying to talk her out of it, but her actions only fueled Luo Yuening’s curiosity.
Luo Yuening’s burgundy waves cascaded over her shoulders. Her eyes were long and charming, though currently filled with a hint of annoyance. She wore a low-cut, black camisole dress, while her silver-fox shawl had been discarded carelessly on the bed.
Zhou Wanyan kept her hands on the cart and backed away. “Ning Ning, it really is nothing. You cannot look.”
Luo Yuening countered, “In one breath you say it is nothing, and in the next you say I cannot look. No, I am looking.”
With that, Luo Yuening reached toward Zhou Wanyan’s waist. Zhou Wanyan reacted as if her tail had been stepped on and scrambled to avoid her. “Luo Yuening, you are cheating!”
Luo Yuening laughed. “So what if I am cheating?”
Zhou Wanyan’s gaze darkened. She stepped forward, closing the distance between them. Luo Yuening instinctively backed away, her voice trembling slightly. “What are you doing?”
Zhou Wanyan said nothing, only continuing her steady advance.
Luo Yuening spoke again, “Do not come any closer.”
Zhou Wanyan maintained a cold expression, watching Luo Yuening like a predator watching its prey. Luo Yuening had never seen her like this. Pushed to the edge of the bed, Luo Yuening’s legs suddenly gave way, and she fell backward onto the mattress, her hands instinctively grabbing for anything she could hold.
Before Zhou Wanyan could react, she was pulled down on top of Luo Yuening. She quickly braced herself with her arms to avoid crushing Luo Yuening with her full weight. A soft moan came from beneath her. She lowered her head slightly; their breaths intertwined, rapidly consuming the oxygen between them. At such a close distance, she felt as if she could hear Luo Yuening’s heartbeat.
She saw Luo Yuening’s pupils dilate, her beautiful eyes shimmering as if she were frozen in time. Then, she felt the softness pressed against her chest.
She whispered, “Are you okay?”
The Fox-like shimmer in Luo Yuening’s eyes was clear. She reached up and placed her hands weakly against Zhou Wanyan’s shoulders in a posture that seemed both like a rejection and an invitation. “I am fine. You were so scary just now; you actually frightened me.”
Zhou Wanyan did not believe for a second that Luo Yuening was afraid of her. “Scared of me? Then why have you not pushed me away yet?”
Hearing this, a flash of shy anger appeared in Luo Yuening’s eyes. She raised her hands and hammered twice on Zhou Wanyan’s shoulder, her strength soft and weak.
Zhou Wanyan ignored her own racing heart. “Alright, I was just teasing you.” She paused, then feigned self-reproach. “I scared you. I am sorry.”
Luo Yuening’s brow furrowed unconsciously as she grumbled, “I was not actually scared.”
The corners of Zhou Wanyan’s lips turned up slightly, her gentle eyes reflecting Luo Yuening’s face.
Luo Yuening asked, “What exactly happened to your right wrist?”
Zhou Wanyan downplayed it. “I accidentally strained it. It will be fine in a few days.”
Luo Yuening remained skeptical and looked down at Zhou Wanyan’s right wrist. It was slender with a prominent wrist bone. She took Zhou Wanyan’s wrist in her hand, circling it with her fingers to measure it.
Just then, a voice came from beyond the screen. “You two, something big happened!”
The voice cut off abruptly. Both women turned their heads simultaneously to see Lin Qi holding a tablet, staring at them in stunned silence.
Lin Qi panicked. “I am sorry! I am sorry! I did not know! Please, continue!”
As she spoke, she hurried to leave. Zhou Wanyan looked down and met Luo Yuening’s gaze; they shared a laugh. But the next second, Lin Qi returned with a grave expression. “No, something really happened. Whatever you two are doing, wait until this is resolved.”
Zhou Wanyan used her core strength to push herself off Luo Yuening and explained, “Sister Lin, you misunderstood.”
Luo Yuening sat up as well, her snow-white shoulders exposed. “What happened? What is all the fuss about?”
Zhou Wanyan grabbed the silver-fox shawl from the bed and naturally draped it over Luo Yuening’s shoulders, adding, “Do not catch a cold; it is chilly.”
On the surface, there was nothing wrong with the statement, but upon reflection, they were indoors—how could it be cold? Zhou Wanyan’s gesture was perhaps a bit too obvious. Luo Yuening tightened the shawl. Was Yan Yan worrying about her? But the air conditioning was on, and it was actually quite hot. Suddenly, a realization clicked in her mind, and the corners of her lips curled into a meaningful smile.
Observation Room
Liang Yumeng: “Welcome back. After watching the live broadcast, I am sure everyone has their own guesses. But before we guess, I want to ask everyone a question: what is the most unacceptable thing in a relationship for you?”
Yang Hui thought for a moment and said calmly, “Cheating. That is a matter of principle. I can accept that you might gradually love me less because the novelty fades; some people are destined to change, and we can just break up. But cheating cannot be forgiven.”
Fang Jing nodded quickly in agreement. “Sister Yang Hui is right. Cheating is the most unforgivable, and so is the ‘cold treatment.’ I hate that the most. If you do not like me, just say it directly; do not use cold treatment to force me into being the one to suggest a breakup.”
Liang Yumeng smiled. “The people who do that are usually thinking, ‘I was the one who was dumped, I need comfort, I am the victim.’ Then they go find someone else to seek sympathy.”
Fang Jing spoke as if she had opened a floodgate. “Exactly! That is their usual tactic. It makes it look like they were dumped, so the victim must be them. But has anyone considered that some people are forced into initiating the breakup?”
Liang and Yang both nodded in agreement with Fang Jing. Their intense discussion stood in sharp contrast to Yan Jiuqing, who sat quietly to the side. The words spoken by the three were like a sharp blade, each sentence cutting across Yan Jiuqing’s face with a stinging pain.
Seeing that Yan Jiuqing had remained silent, Liang Yumeng, as the host, felt it was her task to ensure every guest interacted actively. “What about President Yan? What is the most unacceptable thing in a relationship for you?”
