- My 'White Moonlight' First Love Came Back, but I Don't Love her Anymore
- Chapter 14 - Drunk and Needing Luo Yuening to Pick Her Up
“Why don’t we play a game?” Ren Li suggested.
“Sure, why not!” the others around them chimed in.
Gao Yao shot a wary glance at Ren Li, knowing full well that this woman was up to no good. “Ren Li, whatever you want to play, I’ll play with you.”
Ren Li’s voice was soft and soothing, like a summer night breeze. “Alright then. We each take a card, and whoever draws the Joker can command the others to do anything. How about it?”
In the first round, Gao Yao drew the Joker. A faint smile touched her lips, and without hesitation, she ordered the holder of the number 2 card to drink three glasses. Just as she expected, the one holding number 2 was Ren Li.
Ren Li calmly picked up her glass, her eyes tracing over Zhou Wanyan with a lingering, seductive gaze before she downed all three drinks in one go.
Zhou Wanyan’s brow twitched. She felt as if she were standing right in the middle of a battlefield.
Gao Yao narrowed her eyes, thinking to herself, Once you’re drunk, let’s see how you try to harass Wanyan.
In the second round, the person who drew the Joker ordered number 3 to drink four glasses.
It happened that Zhou Wanyan drew number 3. After drinking four glasses in a row, a rosy flush began to creep across her cheeks.
“Wanyan, are you okay?” Gao Yao asked worriedly.
Ren Li smiled meaningfully. “I didn’t realize the eldest Miss Gao knew how to care for people.” She then turned to Zhou Wanyan. “Wanyan, if you feel dizzy, you can lean on my shoulder.”
Zhou Wanyan maintained a polite smile. “I’m fine. No need, but thank you.”
Hearing this, Ren Li didn’t push further. She silently picked up her glass, took a small sip, and said, “Let’s keep going.”
Gao Yao accurately captured Ren Li’s momentary flash of disappointment, and a sense of crisis immediately surged within her. She stared intensely at Ren Li, trying to see through her. Could Ren Li have fallen for Zhou Wanyan at first sight?
Luo Yuening, you’re in danger!
Luck was not on Zhou Wanyan’s side for the next few rounds. After several more drinks, she felt her head spinning. She pressed her fingers against her temples to try and alleviate the dizzy, heavy sensation.
Ren Li smiled. “Wanyan, what number is your card? This round, numbers 3 and 4 have to drink a cross-cup wine. I’m number 4.”
Under the pressure of everyone’s gaze, Zhou Wanyan flipped over her card.
Number 3?
Zhou Wanyan froze. Didn’t this mean she had to drink a cross-cup wine with Ren Li?
The sound of cheering and jeering erupted around them. Gao Yao silently raised her glass, blocking Zhou Wanyan’s seeking gaze.
Zhou Wanyan comforted herself, thinking it was just a game. She calmly picked up her glass, which was filled to the brim. Just as she lifted it, Ren Li’s arm wound around hers. Ren Li was wearing a low-cut white dress, and the hint of red at the corners of her eyes radiated charm.
Their eyes met for a brief moment before Zhou Wanyan looked away. As they drank the cross-cup wine together, a photo was captured from a corner of the room.
The corners of Ren Li’s lips curled into a meaningful, hidden smile.
While some were happy, others were troubled. After that, Ren Li stopped bothering Zhou Wanyan. Zhou Wanyan moved to a seat in the corner and closed her eyes to rest.
Without warning, the image of Luo Yuening appeared in her mind.
Luo Yuening had classic fox-like eyes that slanted upward, a slightly tilted chin, and an icy aura that kept people at a distance. Her beautiful long hair was usually tied in a high ponytail.
In the memory, Luo Yuening spoke with a stern face and a soft huff. “Zhou Wanyan, if you’re tired, you can lean on my shoulder to rest. I’ll allow it.”
“Ningning, you’re so good to me.”
The corners of Luo Yuening’s eyes lifted, her heart blooming with joy, yet she maintained a nonchalant expression. “I’m good to all my friends.”
But back then, Zhou Wanyan had changed the subject. “Actually, it’s fine. I can just sleep on the desk.”
She had leaned over the desk, laughter escaping her lips, only to be met with a playful hit from Luo Yuening. Luo Yuening realized she had been teased again, her cheeks flushing with anger. “Zhou Wanyan! I’m never talking to you again!”
Then, Luo Yuening had stormed out of the classroom. Zhou Wanyan would chase after her, say a few sweet words, and Luo Yuening would forgive her every time.
Luo Yuening probably knew Zhou Wanyan’s apologies by heart, yet she never seemed tired of hearing them. Every time after being coaxed, the corners of her mouth would twitch upward uncontrollably, even as she tried to look indifferent.
Zhou Wanyan didn’t know what she had been thinking back then, but every time Luo Yuening hit her for it, her heart would swell with joy.
Thinking back now, she wondered if she had some sort of masochistic streak.
As she thought of this, Zhou Wanyan suddenly snapped awake. The voice from her dream seemed to echo in her ear.
“Zhou Wanyan, are you awake?”
Zhou Wanyan opened her eyes and realized the person from her dream wasn’t there. An indescribable sense of loss filled her heart. She didn’t know what was wrong with her. A person who hadn’t appeared in her dreams for six years had suddenly shown up today.
She noticed someone sitting beside her out of the corner of her eye. She turned her head and froze.
Her dark pupils contracted, reflecting the woman in front of her. Perhaps because of the alcohol, she could clearly feel her heart racing.
“Luo Yuening? Where are the others?” she whispered to confirm.
Luo Yuening gave her a resentful look and moved to stand up and leave.
Zhou Wanyan quickly grabbed Luo Yuening’s sleeve. “Don’t go. Is this not a dream?”
At the physical contact, Luo Yuening felt a warm current surge through her body. her fingertips trembled, and her heart felt as if it were being brushed by a feather. She suppressed the agitation in her heart and spoke with a cold voice. “Of course, this isn’t a dream.”
Zhou Wanyan’s eyes, which had been as calm as water, suddenly broke into a faint smile, like a flower blooming in spring.
Luo Yuening was momentarily dazed by the sight. The tenderness in her own fox-like eyes was something even she didn’t notice. “What are you laughing at? What are you looking at? Is there something on my face?”
Zhou Wanyan burst out laughing. “Ningning, you asked three questions at once. I’m too dizzy to know which one to answer first.”
Ningning?
Luo Yuening’s eyelashes fluttered, and a blush instantly stained her cheeks. “Ningning? Who is your Ningning?”
Zhou Wanyan’s gaze was blurry, and her speech was broken. “Ningning is Ningning. Ningning has big eyes and long legs.”
Luo Yuening unconsciously straightened her back, her gaze flickering with a girl’s bashfulness. “And then?”
Zhou Wanyan continued, “And then… her fur is bright yellow, very, very bright.”
Luo Yuening’s smile stiffened, her eyelids twitched, and her chest heaved with frustration. She lifted her foot and stepped on Zhou Wanyan’s foot without mercy.
Zhou Wanyan hissed in pain, her face contorting slightly. She then leaned back against the sofa and fell into a deep sleep.
Seeing this, Luo Yuening huffed. She should have worn high heels to step on her harder.
To think she had been secretly happy, thinking Zhou Wanyan wanted to make up with her. It turned out she wasn’t even talking about a person! Calling her Ningning so intimately… “Ning” your head!
Just stay unconscious then. If I knew you were going to be this annoying, I wouldn’t have come to pick you up.
You certainly looked happy enough drinking that cross-cup wine.
Ren Li, why does that name sound so familiar?
“Hey, where do you live now?”
There was no response. Luo Yuening sighed deeply and lifted the woman by her waist to help her up.
Zixi No. 1, located in the most prosperous area of Haicheng, was a place that held its own stories.
After tossing Zhou Wanyan onto the bed, Luo Yuening sat beside her, panting. Her hair was messily stuck to her cheeks. She ran her hands back through her hair, letting her wine-red curls fall over her shoulders.
After a short rest, Luo Yuening thought it over and decided to take off Zhou Wanyan’s coat.
She stood by the bed, leaning over slightly to remove the coat. Her curls slipped from behind her ears and brushed against Zhou Wanyan’s neck.
The feather-like touch made Zhou Wanyan, who was half-awake, reach out to stop the itching sensation.
Luo Yuening’s scalp tightened in pain. “Hiss!” Tears nearly sprang to her eyes.
Her legs went weak, and she fell directly onto Zhou Wanyan. Luo Yuening’s breathing grew shallow. The person she had been longing for was right in front of her, only centimeters away. She slowly reached out, worried that Zhou Wanyan would wake up, yet unable to restrain her heart.
She traced Zhou Wanyan’s beautiful features with her finger, touching her only with the utmost care. Her longing was like an endless stream of water, growing stronger and more intense.
She had finally waited for Zhou Wanyan to break up. This time, she was going to fight for a chance. Even if the path ahead was unknown, she didn’t want to be the person hiding in the corner anymore. She wanted to stand openly by Zhou Wanyan’s side.
Luo Yuening’s fingertip finally rested on Zhou Wanyan’s full lips. She gave a light tap, then pulled her hand away as if she had been electrocuted.
Finally, Luo Yuening reluctantly moved away. After finishing taking off the coat, she sat by the bed and gazed at Zhou Wanyan’s sleeping face for a long, long time.
Zhou Wanyan, you once said I was brave. But when it comes to loving you, I’ve become a coward. I started using indifference to disguise myself because I was afraid you would leave me if you saw my feelings.
And that was the truth. You must have seen that love letter, and your decision to be with Yan Jiuqing was your response to it.
You gave me the answer six years ago, yet six years have passed and I still can’t let go. I don’t want to gamble with another six years. I want you to love me, even if I end up bruised and battered in the end.
Time slipped away second by second until it was the early hours of the morning. Only then did Luo Yuening slowly stand up and walk out of the room.
The next day at noon, Zhou Wanyan slowly woke up from the soft bed. She sat halfway up and took a deep breath before opening her eyes.
Immediately, she realized something was wrong. This wasn’t her home!
Zhou Wanyan frantically checked her clothes. Seeing that only her coat had been removed, her racing heart finally began to calm down.
She tried to recall what happened last night. She had fallen asleep on the sofa and woken up here. It seemed she really shouldn’t drink so much; she had completely blacked out. She assumed Gao Yao must have brought her home.
Zhou Wanyan pushed open the bedroom door and walked down the stairs. Hearing a noise from the kitchen, she asked softly, “Gao Yao, what are you doing?”
Then, an unexpected person appeared before her eyes.
The woman’s long hair was tied back. She wore a white camisole dress, and her eyes were as soft as water. Her makeup-free face had a faint, cold elegance, but her usual sharp edge was softened.
Zhou Wanyan froze in place, her lips pursed slightly. Her voice carried a hint of disbelief. “Luo Yuening? Why is it you?”
