My Weekend Lover Turned Out To Be My Boss - Chapter 104
Chapter 104: Villain R · “Starfield”
Returning to the villa after having my wounds dressed at the hospital, walking into the garden felt like a lifetime ago. It was both familiar and a bit strange; the flowers and plants in the yard were beautifully tended. It seemed Phoebe had gone through a lot of effort to prepare the house for my return. Lin Chen sensibly mentioned he needed to continue investigating Nian Buhe; after dropping my luggage in the living room, he vanished in the blink of an eye.
I sat on the sofa with a stiff, awkward back, and there was no smile on Phoebe’s face either. Neither of us felt particularly joyous about coming home after all the hardships. She laid out the medicine she’d bought on the coffee table and busy-headedly went to the kitchen to bring me a bottle of still soda water. I took a sip, looking around the house, until a thick sense of bitterness took hold. “Is the most magical shape in this world a circle?” I asked desolately.
Intrigued by my topic while studying the medication the doctor prescribed, Phoebe asked distractedly, “What makes you say that?”
Answering with a question of my own, I countered, “Don’t you think Guan Shuyun is an incredible woman?”
Phoebe didn’t look up at my question, but I saw her brow furrow slightly. She remained silent for a while, resting the medicine boxes gently on the table. After a long pause, Phoebe raised a smile, her eyes curving into crescents. She shifted her body to sit close to me, resting her head on my shoulder and playing with my hand. “She is incredible,” she answered. “Otherwise, the two of us wouldn’t have fallen into her traps together.”
I ignored Phoebe’s answer and continued talking to myself: “I left in the first place because of her instigation, and I’ve come back now because she let go. Meeting Qiu Qi and He Mu was also because of her. Only now do I realize that through all the circling and turning, it was always her. Truly, there’s no guarding against her.”
Phoebe let go of my hand and leaned back into the sofa, resting her forehead in her palm, looking distressed. We both felt the torment. Perhaps because she had held it in for too long, she took several deep breaths to steady herself before saying sorrowfully, “Must you repeatedly mention Guan Shuyun in front of me?”
Her aggrieved expression made it impossible for me to stay firm. I stood up and paced around the living room. Phoebe couldn’t stand my silence, so she followed me and tugged at a corner of my shirt. “I’m really trying to change. Give me a little more time, okay?”
She tried to make me happy, a strained smile appearing on her face as she reached up to rub the corners of my mouth, wanting me to smile back. Instead, I took her hand seriously and led her back to the sofa to sit down. Sensing something bad was coming, she looked a bit dazed.
“I want to discuss something with you.”
Phoebe took a swig of the soda water I had been drinking, pretending to be relaxed. “Go ahead. Discuss what?”
“Li Shuhua’s mess hasn’t been cleaned up yet, Qiao Xin’s whereabouts are unknown, and Officer Jiang comes to find me every few days for the case. Right now, there are many things without a resolution, so… I want…”
She tilted her head, looking at me with confusion. “So what do you want to do?”
“I think before I’ve cleared these matters up, we shouldn’t talk about our relationship.”
Phoebe set the water bottle aside. She shook her head with a faint, bitter smile, eventually accepting my proposal out of necessity. “I respect your arrangement.”
“Then I’ll go upstairs to tidy a room.”
As I turned to leave, Phoebe caught my hand. She looked up at me with a hint of pathetic longing. “I already had someone clean our room. There’s no need to fuss, and besides… your injuries…”
I interrupted her and gave her a small smile. “I prefer to sleep alone right now. Having personal space feels more free. It’s better if I stay in the guest room.”
At those words, Phoebe forced a smile and nodded, her hand dropping away in disappointment. “Alright… fine…”
I was feeling a bit hungry, so I went to the kitchen to rummage through the fridge. Phoebe followed me in. She looked a bit stunned by the fridge full of fresh ingredients; her “I don’t know how to cook” face eventually turned into an embarrassed, wide grin. “How about… we go back to the ancestral house?”
I didn’t want the hassle, so I refused the suggestion. “Never mind. Let’s just grab something nearby.”
As I was looking at the abundant food inside and preparing to close the fridge door, an empty plate suddenly slid out. Accompanied by a sharp, piercing sound, it shattered into a brilliant spray on the floor. To my soul, that screeching, breaking sound was like a key turning in a door to madness.
My ears suddenly began to ring. A headache accompanied by a wave of nausea surged from my stomach to my brain. Vague memories of the day I struck Guan Shuyun to the ground flashed in my mind. I accidentally pushed Phoebe aside and doubled over the sink, dry-heaving violently. Phoebe patted my back, asking worriedly, “Feifan? What’s wrong?”
I waved her off. “It’s nothing, nothing…”
I splashed cold water on my face. Phoebe insisted on taking me to the hospital, her eyes red as she scolded, “Back to the hospital!”
I lost my temper for no reason: “I said I’m fine!”
Phoebe fell silent. Then she went back to the living room; I didn’t know what she was doing until she rushed back into the kitchen, clutching a report in her hand. “If I hadn’t asked, were you going to keep this from me forever?”
I looked at the evaluation report in her hand. My hands shook as I fumbled for a cigarette, only to realize my pockets were empty. I turned away and leaned against the counter, silent. Phoebe stepped up and grabbed my collar, asking angrily again: “Severe psychological disorder, serious emotional dysregulation, suspected early-stage irritability disorder accompanied by Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Requires regular psychological treatment to prevent depression from worsening.”
I shook my head, trying to take the report. “Phoebe, listen to me… I’m not sick… I’m really not sick…”
Phoebe stepped back, hiding the report behind her back, her nose turning red. “It’s all because of me. I’m the one who ruined you like this!”
“Tear up the report! Tear it up… TEAR IT UP!!!”
I swept all the dishes off the counter with one hand… Phoebe was startled by my behavior, her face turning pale as she looked at me. I looked at the wreckage on the floor. “Phoebe… I didn’t mean to… I didn’t… Did I scare you? I’m sorry… I’m sorry…”
I knelt down to pick up the sharp fragments. Phoebe threw herself onto me and hugged me tightly. “I’ll be with you. I’ll always be with you. If there’s an illness, we’ll treat it. I’ll hire the best psychologists. Don’t scare yourself… okay?”
Buried in her embrace, I felt much more at peace. A sudden, inexplicable exhaustion washed over me. Phoebe helped me up. “If you want to sleep, I’ll take you back to the room. Don’t worry about the kitchen, someone will come to clean it. Come on, let’s go sleep in bed.”
Back in the room, Phoebe knelt down to take off my shoes. I leaned over and patted her head. “I’ll do it. You aren’t suited for this.”
She untied my laces and grinned up at me. “I want to be ‘You Feifan’ for once.”
“Your mouth has certainly learned from her—getting more and more cheeky.”
“Alright, go to bed and sleep like a good girl.”
“Then… where are you going?”
“To clean the kitchen.”
I reached out and grabbed her shirt. “Didn’t you say someone would naturally clean it?”
“Am I not a person? What, do you want me to stay with you? Just say it~”
“Cough, cough…”
“So tsundere!”
I patted the pillow and gave a low-voiced command: “Get in bed. Sleep.”
She playfully stuck out her tongue. “Yes, ma’am!”
We leaned against the headboard side by side. Phoebe lifted my arm so I could drape it over her shoulder. She found a comfortable position in my arms. “I accidentally bumped into the psychologist you went to see secretly in the hospital hallway. He saw me coming out of your room and asked how you were injured. It took a lot of pestering before the doctor would give me your report. When did you start losing your appetite and vomiting so much?”
I kissed her forehead, comforting her. “It’s nothing serious. Don’t worry about me.”
Phoebe stroked my face. “Everyone is hurting you. My ‘protection’ was also a form of harm, and even you are hurting yourself. Yet in the end, you use this method to protect me. You Feifan, why are you so silly? How am I worth your love?”
I hugged her back, and the emotions I had suppressed for so long finally exploded. I cried like a three-year-old, wailing, “Who told me to love you?! Guan Shuyun was so good to me, but I couldn’t even see her. I just had to want you, a woman who does nothing but trample on me all day! What can I do… I’m also a woman. Can’t you just be a bit better to me? You’re so cold all the time, even a smile is a luxury. I tried everything to make you happy, but in the end, I had no more ways left to please you. What else do you want from me?”
Seeing the tears sliding from her eyes, she apologized repeatedly: “I’m sorry… I’m sorry… Feifan… I’m sorry. I love you, I really love you! Can you promise me that no matter what happens next, you won’t carry it alone or keep it inside? We’ll solve the problems together.
From now on, we’ll communicate properly. If you have trouble at work, I’ll let you vent to me. When you’re unhappy, you can take your temper out on me, okay?”
………
“CEO Guan is already in the conference room waiting for the three of you. Please follow me.”
The secretary led us to the conference room. Guan Shuyun was sitting in the executive chair, her back to us, silent. Phoebe pulled out a chair and sat down. Once the secretary had served the tea, Phoebe opened the conversation: “CEO Guan, everyone’s time is precious. Let’s draft the framework for the investment liquidation as quickly as possible.”
Guan Shuyun ignored Phoebe. She pushed herself up from the chair and walked directly to me, leaning in close and staring straight into my eyes. “The liquidation is a matter between the Guan Corporation and Doris Venture Capital. Why are you everywhere? Why did you come to join the fun?”
I tilted my head back slightly to look at her, then gave a happy smile and explained: “To stop your losses.”
