My Upperclassman Wants me to confess my feelings - Chapter 10
Chapter 10: The Routine
Despite Sun Wenze’s persistent pestering, Xiaohan still didn’t agree, only saying that she would go if Senior went.
Two days later, Sun Wenze sat blankly in the classroom, not even leaving after class ended. He considered himself someone who understood girls well, and making them happy was usually a simple task for him. But this time, facing Xiaohan, Sun Wenze felt a sense of frustration for the second time.
Why is this happening?
“Hey! Why haven’t you left yet?” Ningning poked her head out, clutching a half-empty bag of potato chips, staring at him.
“Holy—!” Sun Wenze recoiled into his seat in a fright, staring at her with dissatisfaction. “Why are you scaring people in broad daylight?”
Ningning stood up straight innocently: “I didn’t scare you. You scared yourself, okay?”
“Go, go, go! Don’t bother me.” Sun Wenze was currently agonizing over how to get Xiaohan to accept his invitation; he had no time for her.
“Who’s bothering you! I have plans with Xiaohan anyway!” Ningning let out a ‘tch’ and turned to leave.
Sun Wenze’s ears perked up Xiaohan! Ningning was Xiaohan’s roommate!
He immediately stood up and chased after her, his face full of flattering smiles: “Sister Ningning, I’ll accompany you.”
Ningning clutched her chips guardedly and glared at her: “Doing favors for no reason… you’re not eyeing my potato chips, are you?”
Sun Wenze’s brain suddenly became agile: “No, no, no! I want to treat you to chips!”
Using the excuse of having eaten one of Ningning’s dried plums half a year ago, Sun Wenze dragged her to the supermarket and bought a pile of snacks for her.
Ningning didn’t take them; instead, she looked him up and down: “What is your actual goal? Confess honestly!”
Sun Wenze naturally couldn’t tell the truth: “Isn’t it almost my birthday! I invited Sister Cheng and Xiaohan, but Xiaohan doesn’t really want to go. The more the merrier, so I hope you guys can come to show some support.”
“You really spare no effort to please Sister Wu!” Ningning shook her head.
Sun Wenze pretended to speak with regret: “My birthday party is being held at the newly opened Japanese restaurant on Han Street. If none of you go, I’ll have to go through the trouble of canceling some of the dishes I ordered.”
A Japanese restaurant on Han Street…
Ningning was very conflicted, pursing her lips while staring at the snacks in Sun Wenze’s hands. That restaurant was very expensive; she hadn’t been able to bring herself to eat there. Now there was an opportunity right in front of her—
“Alright, I’ll go.”
…
In the dormitory, Ningning was telling Xiaohan about Sun Wenze’s birthday.
Coincidentally, Cheng Wu returned and overheard a portion of it. Thinking back to how Sun Wenze had actually gone to apologize to Xiaohan, she felt that it would be good for Xiaohan to go out more and meet new friends.
“Xiaohan, if I have time then, I’ll go with you. If I’m busy, you and Ningning go first.”
“Senior is going too?” Xiaohan had thought Senior wasn’t going, which is why she hadn’t promised Sun Wenze.
Cheng Wu smiled: “Yes.”
Over at the Finance department, Sun Wenze was discussing the birthday party with Fan Jia. Upon receiving Xiaohan’s reply, he couldn’t help but pump his fist, kick his leg, and let out a “Yes!”
Fan Jia asked him: “Did Xiaohan agree?”
“She did! Now it’s just a matter of how to get Little Bei to go too.” Sun Wenze held his phone and kissed it vigorously, then looked troubled again. “How should I tell Xiaohan?”
The office was quiet for a while before Fan Jia gave him a suggestion: “Didn’t you just say you wanted more people? Just tell Xiaohan to bring her friends along.”
Sun Wenze looked at his phone: “Directly telling her to bring Bei Wenxin would be too obvious, wouldn’t it?”
Fan Jia recalled that day when he and Bei Wenxin chatted all the way, learning that she had really wanted to join the School Student Union and had thoughts of changing majors.
“It doesn’t matter. Just have Xiaohan mention it. Bei Wenxin will definitely come.” Fan Jia was full of confidence; the current Bei Wenxin was very much like Li Ya a year ago—both were very upwardly mobile.
Sun Wenze sent the message with some skepticism, phrasing it very tactfully: Xiaohan, you can also bring your friends along, boys or girls. Whether they come or not is up to them.
Receiving the message, the first person Xiaohan thought of was Bei Wenxin, since everyone from their dorm who could go would be going. However, to be safe, she asked Cheng Wu.
Remembering Bei Wenxin’s interview for the School Student Union, Cheng Wu nodded with a smile: “Talk to Wenxin. Sun Wenze’s friends are basically all from various student unions; this is an opportunity.”
Xiaohan didn’t quite understand Senior’s words, but she still asked Bei Wenxin and forwarded Cheng Wu’s words. In less than a minute, Bei Wenxin replied with a “Sure.”
But soon she asked back: Is it really okay for me to go?
Xiaohan took a screenshot of Sun Wenze’s words and sent it over.
In the department building, Bei Wenxin fell into thought. She could feel that Sun Wenze had designs on her. However, just as Senior Cheng Wu said, this was an opportunity. Most importantly, Sun Wenze didn’t seem to have invited her exclusively in a deliberate way.
Back at the Finance department, Sun Wenze, having received the news, finally hugged Fan Jia: “You were right! She’s really coming!”
Fan Jia patted Sun Wenze on the back: “I hope you get what you wish for.”
Staring at the door, Fan Jia was thinking about something else. If Xiaohan came, Cheng Wu would surely come too.
…
On the day of the birthday, Zhao Ru and Cheng Wu were predictably busy. Xiaohan and Ningning prepared simply and went downstairs. Bei Wenxin was already waiting for them; seeing them, she waved and came over: “Senior Ningning, Xiaohan.”
“Why be so polite! I’m actually the same year as you guys! Just call me Ningning!” Ningning liked Bei Wenxin quite a bit, thinking she was always smiling and very gentle.
The three hadn’t walked far when they encountered Sun Wenze at a corner. He was wearing a pink shirt today, his hair was permed, and he was dressed up to the nines as he waved to greet them.
The moment Ningning saw him like this, she covered her mouth and started laughing. On the other hand, Bei Wenxin seemed prepared; she greeted Sun Wenze but held tightly onto Xiaohan’s arm.
“Three beauties, let’s go.” Sun Wenze didn’t walk toward Bei Wenxin’s side, but instead walked on Ningning’s side.
This made Ningning’s hands itch; she couldn’t help but jump up and grab at his hair: “Why did you get a lion’s mane perm?”
Sun Wenze pushed Ningning’s hand down: “What lion’s mane! This is a tin foil perm that cost me eight hundred big ones, okay!”
“Commonly known as the ‘scumbag perm’!” Ningning was not polite at all, teasing him intentionally. “As expected, only our Jiangda School Grass Sun is worthy of this hairstyle!”
“Hmph! Little girl, you don’t know how to appreciate art!” Sun Wenze ignored her and asked the other two, “You guys judge—doesn’t my hair look good?”
Xiaohan looked at it seriously and nodded: “It’s alright.”
Bei Wenxin also nodded and said it was okay.
Along the way, Sun Wenze played around with Ningning, only occasionally asking for Xiaohan and Bei Wenxin’s opinions. He was neither abrupt nor did he neglect them. After leaving the school, Sun Wenze called a Didi and took the initiative to sit in the front.
It was only then that Xiaohan understood a little why Senior let them attend the birthday party. Sun Wenze changed girlfriends very quickly, liking every one he saw, but under normal circumstances, he handled things with a good sense of propriety. Bei Wenxin also relaxed; as long as nothing was forced, it was fine.
…
Arriving at the Japanese restaurant on Han Street, Sun Wenze led them to a private room. There were three tables pushed together, and there were even displays of Japanese samurai swords and a tea ceremony table.
Ningning was somewhat surprised: “Can the private rooms here be this big?”
“There are some. In business, you have to cater to the guests’ needs.” Bei Wenxin took the initiative to integrate with them.
Sun Wenze felt relieved: There’s a chance!
There were over ten people in the room, two of whom Xiaohan recognized: Fan Jia and Ye Sisi. Ningning got angry the moment she saw Fan Jia, but considering the relationship between Sun Wenze and Fan Jia, it was impossible for him not to come. Picking an empty table, Ningning led Xiaohan and Wenxin over to sit.
To Xiaohan’s surprise, among the people who came in later was actually Zhou Weiwei. Meeting Xiaohan’s gaze, Zhou Weiwei smiled gently and went to the neighboring table with the two boys she came with.
About half an hour later, almost everyone had arrived, so Sun Wenze had the waiters bring out the food. Dish after dish was served, making Ningning’s mouth water. She scrambled to grab a napkin to wipe her mouth, looking ready to start eating.
Xiaohan kept Senior Zhao Ru’s reminders in mind and quickly pulled her back: “Ningning, there will be even more delicious things later! If you get full now, you won’t be able to eat anymore!”
“But I can’t help myself.” Ningning grabbed Xiaohan and acted spoiled.
Fortunately, a waiter came to the door and said that someone’s delivery had arrived, addressed to “520.” Xiaohan immediately stood up and pulled Ningning out: “Go! The gift we got for Senior has arrived! Let’s go check and sign for it.”
At the door, after confirming there were no issues with the gift, Xiaohan signed for it on the spot. Ningning had drunk too much water earlier, so she found a waiter to lead her to the restroom, telling Xiaohan to go back first.
Picking up the gift, Xiaohan turned around and saw Fan Jia. He looked at the item in her hands and asked: “Do you need help?”
“No, no need!” Xiaohan naturally had no good feelings toward Fan Jia and shook her head quickly.
Fan Jia didn’t insist and turned to call a waiter over to help her. Facing a kindness offered by someone else, it was hard for Xiaohan not to say thank you.
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” Fan Jia smiled, turned, and left first.
Returning to the private room, there were two more boys next to Bei Wenxin. After introductions, Xiaohan learned they were from the Discipline Inspection Department of the School Student Union. Their work for the upcoming sports meet was already finished, so they had come early.
Xiaohan couldn’t join their conversation, so she could only open her phone and silently read the posts in the Mathematics department forum. After reading for a bit, she received a message from Ningning: Xiaohan, come out for a second.
Xiaohan said goodbye to Bei Wenxin and got up to leave. Arriving at the spot Ningning mentioned, someone suddenly pulled her into a corner and whispered: “Just now while I was in the bathroom, I overheard a conversation between Zhou Weiwei and another girl.”
“What did they say?”
“The reason this guy Sun Wenze invited us is because he wanted to invite Bei Wenxin! He wants to pursue Little Bei!” Ningning spoke through gritted teeth; she had actually been used as a tool!
Xiaohan was stunned: “Zhou Weiwei said that?”
Ningning couldn’t help but sneer: “Who else! Zhou Weiwei even said that she took the initiative to break up just to clear a space for Little Bei! That way, she and Sun Wenze can still be friends! With her being so sensible, how could Sun Wenze not like her!”
Thinking back to Sun Wenze’s previous fawning, Ningning got angry: “What ‘showing support’! It’s all just his routine for chasing girls!”
