My System, My Wife Feng Aotian [Transmigration] - Chapter 51
Bubbles appeared above 03’s head, each containing a silver Ball System with a matchstick-like appendage dangling from it. She stood frozen in shock.
“Feng Jue,” 03 said, forced to stare at the pillar. “You’re mocking me.”
Feng Jue grasped 03’s chin and turned her face, bringing their eyes level.
“How could I?” Feng Jue replied calmly, a hint of confusion in her lifted eyes. “Why would I mock you?” 03 remained silent. Above her head, Lingshi slowly twisted, the large bow around its neck swaying and causing the ribbons to fall unevenly, one longer than the other. A bell trapped in her hair chimed.
Feng Jue’s expression remained serene as she gently brushed the bell away from 03’s face, tucking her hair behind her ear to reveal her snow-white ears.
03 grasped Feng Jue’s fingers. “Tell me the truth.”
Feng Jue’s lips curved into a soft smile. “You’re truly beautiful,” she said warmly. “Like a flower, like jade—ethereal and captivating. Even with your hair loose, you’re a peerless beauty who could topple kingdoms.”
03 stared at Feng Jue’s face, thinking: Feng Jue called me a peerless beauty.
“My earlier laughter was simply because I felt sorry for Lingshi,” Feng Jue said, glancing at the Fire Rock Jiao Dragon, which was biting its tail. “Remember to behave and stay put as your hair ornament.”
Lingshi wriggled again.
At this point, 03’s expression turned slightly troubled. She held out her hands to Feng Jue and said, “Compared to the System’s capabilities, the human body has too many limitations. I can answer all your questions and provide you with all the information I can access. If I had enough Points, I could even grant you a daytime ascension, instantly making you an immortal.”
“I am a powerful System, a high-dimensional being existing outside the worldlines,” 03 said calmly. “But now that I have a human body, I can no longer pass through solid objects as before, nor can I directly import data into flesh and blood. I can’t perform beautiful sword flourishes, nor do I know how to tie my hair with a ribbon.”
She lowered her gaze, staring at her hands. Her clear eyes lost their usual brightness, like dark clouds obscuring the sun in an otherwise clear sky. Feng Jue straightened up in surprise. 03… was actually sad.
Feng Jue raised her hand, awkwardly covering her face as she stared directly at 03. She knew that 03 was fixating on trivial matters, and that she was as powerful as she claimed, possessing incomprehensible abilities. But seeing her dejected posture, Feng Jue couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy. She actually found the current 03… somewhat pitiful.
Poor thing, she needed comforting.
“This is really…” Feng Jue murmured, but before she could finish, she had already taken 03’s hand.
03 looked up at Feng Jue.
Feng Jue smiled warmly. “Why worry? As long as you’re by my side, I’ll keep braiding your hair. I may not be as skilled as the palace maids, but I can still do a simple ponytail.”
03 blinked. “I wouldn’t want to trouble Feng Jue,” she said calmly. “The System’s objective is to free the Host from trouble, not become a burden to her.”
“But you’re not the System now, you’re 03,” Feng Jue said, raising their joined hands. Their intertwined fingers were held between them.
Feng Jue chuckled softly. “You’re 03, and you’re a Xi Lingren. In this vast world, I’m the only one who knows your true origin, and you’re the only one who understands my hardships. You’ve saved me time and again, even at the brink of death. 03, I may be indifferent to the world, but I’m not heartless. We’ve long been the world’s most understanding friends.”
03 stared at Feng Jue in astonishment, her usually swift data processing grinding to a halt.
Feng Jue said, “We’re friends.”
“Has our friendship’s affection level maxed out?” 03 asked blankly.
Feng Jue rubbed 03’s hand, chuckling softly. She nodded at 03 and said, “Even better than friends!”
“Between you and me, there’s no such thing as trouble, even if you’re still just a System Ball I can’t touch or reach.”
03 opened her mouth, and her other arm, which had been hanging at her side, raised to touch her heart. In the silver bubble above her head, the System’s tears welled up. Pressing a hand to her chest, 03 murmured, “Moved.”
“Feng Jue, you’re wonderful.”
Feng Jue raised an eyebrow. “You’re not bad yourself.”
She led 03 to the bedroom, speaking leisurely. “Come on, let me re-do your hair. Once it’s done, shall I teach you how to do a sword flower braid?”
03’s steps lightened. “Thank you, Feng Jue.”
“But I still have things to do. I need to go down the mountain to find Mu Rong and ask her to help you repair the garden.”
Feng Jue drawled lazily, “Who’s Mu Rong? The palace staff can handle the garden.”
Oh!
But 03 still needed to go down the mountain. “I have other matters to attend to. I need to go down the mountain,” she said.
“You’ve been quite busy today,” Feng Jue remarked, glancing at 03 and raising an eyebrow.
“What is it?” 03 blinked, then suddenly exclaimed, “Aiya!”
“Feng Jue, there was a flaw in what you just said. Lingshi also knows I’m a powerful System.” 03 abruptly raised her hand, pointing at Lingshi perched above them.
Lingshi’s tail nearly fell off in fright, the tiny flames on its horns flickering wildly.
“What does this have to do with Jiao?!”
It doesn’t even know what a System is! Is a System some kind of monster?
Oh, clever, clever. You’ve even learned how to change the subject. Feng Jue chuckled inwardly, pressing 03 back onto the stool and picking up a wooden comb from the dressing table. “Fine, if a fourth person finds out your identity, it’ll definitely be Lingshi’s fault. And when that happens, we won’t let it off!”
Lingshi angrily swished its tail, sliding down 03’s long hair. Feng Jue casually untied the bow around its neck, watching it scuttle under the table with a series of indignant squawks.
I’m not going out anymore!
03 and Feng Jue exchanged a look, bursting into laughter.
Feng Jue finished braiding 03’s hair.
03’s gaze shifted from Feng Jue’s hands to her face. “I’ve identified the problem,” she said. “The satin ribbon lacks sufficient elasticity. If I want to independently achieve hair-binding skills comparable to yours, I’d either need to improve the ribbon’s functionality—but that involves global technological productivity issues and is irrelevant to our mission—so there’s a better solution.”
Feng Jue draped her arms over 03’s shoulders, drawling lazily, “I’m all ears.”
03’s eyes lit up. Sitting upright and enunciating clearly, she declared, “I think I need to grow another pair of arms. Although it doesn’t conform to typical human anatomy, I could make them retractable, retracting them after each hair-binding session—Feng Jue?”
She looked at Feng Jue, who was slowly covering her ears, her expression conveying her thoughts.
Terrifying.
03 shut her mouth.
Sometimes, one mustn’t indulge the wild ideas in 03’s head. Feng Jue had already suffered numerous consequences from this. Clearing her throat, she asked, “Do you have an even better plan?”
“Please share.”
03 listened attentively.
Feng Jue reached out and twirled a strand of 03’s hair around her finger, the cool silver-white strands coiling around her knuckles. She smiled faintly and teased, “Why not just shave your head?”
Contrary to Feng Jue’s expectations, 03 didn’t show any panic or surprise. Instead, she replied seriously, “I considered it, but it’s not feasible.”
She explained, “I researched it. Humans have an obsession with thick, full hair, which greatly influences their perception of appearance.”
Feng Jue raised an eyebrow, teasing, “What, you care about your looks now?” She had always thought that whether one was human or a ball, it made no difference.
“I don’t care,” 03 said, standing up and suddenly patting Feng Jue on the shoulder. “But you do. You’re a total looks-obsessed person.”
Feng Jue: “……?”
She turned around, staring at 03 in disbelief as the AI cheerfully skipped out the door, a red flower in her hair, her silver tresses swaying in the air and leaving shimmering reflections in Feng Jue’s eyes.
