My Sweet And Submissive Bunny Won't Stop Being Clingy - Chapter 27
The white cat was the first to react, pouncing at Meng Hemian’s feet and circling her anxiously.
“I’ll never speak ill of you again, meow! Quick, go save the little rabbit demon.”
Meng Hemian instantly realized that this situation was not as simple as she had thought. Wen Shuyao was likely in grave danger.
By then, Tu Shanxiu had finished her divination. She gathered her slipping shawl and hurried forward with her tablet, showing Meng Hemian a circled location.
“Near People’s Park.”
Fortunately, it wasn’t far from here.
Tu Shanxiu had lost her usual composure, her speech was fast and urgent: “The pressure from the Lightning Tribulation is too heavy, we can’t get close.”
“I’m leaving Xiao Yao in your hands. Even though she’s a demon, she’s no different from an ordinary human. Without your protection, she will surely die. Of course, I guarantee the lightning won’t harm you.”
Her urgency was written all over her face, her fox like eyes shimmering with sincere emotion, nearly reaching out to grab Meng Hemian’s hand.
“For the sake of us having no ill intentions…”
“I know,” Meng Hemian interrupted directly.
She didn’t ask a single question, she had only come here for news of Wen Shuyao’s whereabouts. Now that she had the answer she wanted, she pulled her raincoat hood back on and turned to vanish into the torrential rain.
As the lights outside flickered, even her silhouette disappeared.
No one would be wandering through a park in such extreme weather. Consequently, no one would discover a soaking wet little rabbit on the walking path.
Wen Shuyao had gotten out of the taxi early. Under the crushing pressure of the Lightning Tribulation, it was difficult for a little rabbit demon like her to maintain human form. After paying the fare and walking a short distance, she was forced to revert to her rabbit shape.
At first, she could still struggle to find her way through the rain. But as the thunder drew closer, the little rabbit’s movements slowed. She felt as though her entire body ached, her bones feeling as if they were being pulled apart.
A thick darkness closed in on her from all sides. She couldn’t see the distant streetlights or the path beneath her feet. Only the lightning overhead and the pouch around her neck remained vivid.
Wen Shuyao was so scared she was on the verge of tears.
She was just an ordinary little rabbit who had been fortunate enough to bathe in the “Emperor’s Flowing Grace” of the moonlight to take human form, later being picked up by Tu Shanxiu and brought to the cat cafe. Since then, she had lived like a normal person, eating many meals but experiencing very little hardship.
Only at this moment did she truly realize that death was inches away. She would never get to eat honey cake again, and she would never see Meng Hemian again.
But what if I get struck by lightning? Won’t Meng Hemian’s bracelet be destroyed with me?
A clap of thunder shook her awake. The little rabbit shook the rain from her fur and forced herself to focus. She buried the pouch in a roadside bush, attempting to run further away.
Her soaked fur no longer provided warmth, the rain chilled her to the bone. Her paws were cut by stones on the ground, leaving trails of blood. Dizzied and disoriented, her survival instinct told her she couldn’t stop yet.
Sizzle….
Her fur stood on end. She could feel the approaching electricity, like a beast grinding its teeth above her head, waiting for the perfect moment to swallow her whole. Suddenly, her vision blurred, her body slammed into a step, and she was forced into the muddy water.
The little rabbit gasped in a puddle. If not for the frantic rising and falling of her chest, she might have been mistaken for a discarded stuffed animal.
“Wu….”
The little rabbit let out a mournful cry, curling herself up as tightly as possible to protect her soft belly. Her eyes were wet, it was impossible to tell if it was tears or rain.
What a shame… I haven’t given the gift to Meng Hemian yet.
She blinked hard, listening to the booming thunder. A thousand meters, five hundred meters, a hundred meters.
Amidst the chilling killing intent, an incongruous sound of footsteps suddenly emerged.
Wen Shuyao dazedly saw someone stepping through the water to reach her side. The lightning filling the sky vanished instantly as if it had never existed.
Under the dim streetlight, Meng Hemian appeared so bright she seemed like a dream woven from light and shadow.
Meng Hemian let out a soft sigh. She leaned over to pick up the “tattered cloth rabbit,” stroking its head soothingly. She said, neither lightly nor heavily, “Where did you run off to? You’re not a little rabbit, you’re a little mud ball.”
Having said that, she unzipped her raincoat and tucked the “mud ball” into her embrace to carry her home.
As the rain eased, Meng Hemian held the frozen rabbit, tucking her in as tightly as possible. The rabbit trembled in her arms, even through the layers of clothing, the terror of a narrow escape was palpable.
Meng Hemian was also reeling from the aftershocks. She had almost lost her “little bread.” She couldn’t understand why Wen Shuyao would run so far during such a critical time. However, now wasn’t the time to dwell on it, the priority was getting her back.
She walked fast, cutting a twenty-minute journey in half.
Once home, she quickly wrapped the rabbit in a blanket, turned on the heater, and went upstairs to find a hair dryer. When she turned back, the figure sitting on the sofa had already changed into Wen Shuyao.
A Wen Shuyao who was thoroughly drenched and pale-faced.
Hearing the movement, she looked up, her eyes vacant and unfocused, appearing as though she hadn’t yet recovered from the state of shock.
Worried about her condition, Meng Hemian first tried handing her a clean towel: “Dry yourself off.”
Wen Shuyao held the towel in her hands, sitting dazed and motionless.
The latter sighed, took the towel back, and began drying her personally. She started with the hair, wrapping it to squeeze out the excess water, then gently wiped her face.
Wen Shuyao didn’t say a word the whole time. When told to lift her head, she lifted it, when told to raise her hand, she raised it. When she wasn’t moving, she didn’t even blink, as obedient as a doll.
Only when Meng Hemian was rummaging through the medicine box did she whisper aggrievedly, “The clothes are dirty…”
Meng Hemian looked at her clothes, they were wrinkled and spotted with mud, definitely dirty. But compared to those “paws,” the clothes were fine.
What were once perfectly fine hands were now covered in small, water bloated cuts and dirt, they would easily get infected if not treated properly.
Meng Hemian knelt on the floor, holding her hands and wiping them with alcohol cotton. She comforted her casually, “I’ll help you change after we’re done cleaning up.”
Wen Shuyao lowered her gaze, saying guiltily, “I’m sorry, I got your clothes dirty.”
Meng Hemian looked down. There were two dark paw prints on her light coffee colored short-sleeved shirt, along with a patch of smeared mud.
“What is there to apologize for?” She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry as she applied the last bandage.
Wen Shuyao licked her dry lips and pressed down on Meng Hemian’s hand: “It’s okay, I can do it myself.”
Meng Hemian frowned: “Are you sure?”
“Yes!” The little rabbit nodded decisively, looking much more recovered. She stood up slowly holding the towel, swaying as she walked toward the stairs. “Thank you…”
Seeing her tilt as if she were about to fall, Meng Hemian reached out to steady her. Without a word, she bent down and scooped her up, holding her steadily.
Wen Shuyao instinctively hooked her arms around Meng Hemian’s neck, her eyes fixed unblinkingly on her.
Blood seemed to begin flowing again, racing through her hypothermic limbs. The sensation she had lost suddenly returned, becoming so sensitive that she could feel the other person’s body heat. It was exceptionally warm; just being pressed together felt wonderful.
The presence of her heart became even more pronounced. As if celebrating this narrow escape, it went thump-thump, each beat so powerful it was impossible for Wen Shuyao to ignore.
Her senses were slightly distorted. The sound of thunder felt like fireworks, the few steps across the room felt like a year.
Most importantly, her mind was filled with one thought: What should I do?
What should I do? I can never repay this life-saving debt… if I offer myself in marriage, would Meng Hemian even want me?
