My Sister Never Said She Was a Creepy Tale - Chapter 93
“How did I fall asleep again?” Yue Yiyue opened her eyes groggily, raising her hand to rub them.
Her head was slightly dizzy, but her spirit felt extraordinarily good. She even felt like she could go out and run twenty laps without a problem.
Especially her shoulder, which had been feeling a bit sore recently due to poor posture while playing on her phone in bed, now felt as comfortable as if it had gone through a perfect spa session.
This state was too good, and Yue Yiyue felt as if something wasn’t quite right.
“Yiyue, you’re awake! I was just about to carry you to the room to sleep,” her mother’s voice interrupted Yue Yiyue’s thoughts. She picked up the remote control and turned up the volume on the television, asking with some concern, “Do you want to go back to the room and sleep for a bit longer?”
“The dark circles under your eyes are quite severe. I asked Gu Nanqiu, and she said you used to stay up a little late, but recently it looks like you’ve been pulling all-nighters.”
The mother furrowed her brow slightly. Seeing her mother’s expression, Yue Yiyue subconsciously raised her hand and obediently vowed, “I’ll go to bed early starting tonight.”
After all, she only said she’d go to bed early; she had her own ideas about what counted as “early.”
Yue Lu watched Yiyue’s eyes dart around. Her furrowed brow relaxed, and she reached out to pinch Yue Yiyue’s nose. “Trying to pull a fast one on me again. No more staying up late, early to bed starting tonight.”
“Mom—” Yue Yiyue’s little trick was seen through. Feeling a bit guilty, she repeated what her mother had just said.
The feeling of being properly disciplined was genuinely nice. At least at this moment, she wasn’t a little rascal who hadn’t been taught.
This feeling was different from the usual guidance she received from Gu Nanqiu.
Yue Yiyue’s eyes gradually became moist. So this was what it felt like to have a mother.
Yue Lu saw the waterline in Yue Yiyue’s eyes. She just quietly and gently looked at Yue Yiyue, then lightly patted her shoulder.
Gu Nanqiu watched the two interact, lowered her head, and continued looking at her phone.
Only the clattering sound of her typing on the keyboard served to vent the dissatisfaction in her heart.
Twenty minutes later, Gu Nanqiu watched Yue Yiyue still rambling on about her study situation.
She looked at the time with some hesitation.
“It’s time to go.” Another ten minutes passed, and she finally had to speak up to interrupt the touching moment.
Yue Lu finally withdrew her hand and looked at Gu Nanqiu apologetically. “I’m sorry, I haven’t seen my darling in so long, so I got a little too excited.”
After speaking, she picked up her coat from the side. “Good girl, go change your clothes. I need to get ready too.”
Yue Yiyue nodded, looked at Gu Nanqiu, and scratched her head. “I’m sorry, I…”
“Yiyue, it’s completely normal for you and your mother to spend so much time together after such a long separation,” Gu Nanqiu leaned down and hugged Yue Yiyue, lowering her head to sniff the shower gel scent on her neck, which was the same as her own.
The trace of annoyance in her heart was slowly smoothed over by the fragrance. “Take your time getting ready. It’s not too far to walk from here anyway.”
Slipping into the washroom, Yue Yiyue looked at the extra toothbrush and the facial cleanser placed on the sink.
A pink towel now hung on the rack.
The house now held the trace of another person’s life.
Yue Yiyue smiled happily. If only it could stay this way… forever… How wonderful would that be?
She would also work hard to earn money in the future and buy a three-bedroom apartment.
Mom would sleep in the master bedroom, and she and Gu Nanqiu would sleep in the secondary bedroom.
This way, she could build the perfect home in her mind.
Occasionally, she would invite Ye Qiu over, or text Curator Qiu to see if she would like to come.
As for the forensic doctor, she would probably hear many sweet stories about her and her lover. If the forensic doctor was willing to come, Yue Yiyue could learn a thing or two.
As long as she could keep this going…
As long as time passed a little slower, and the already chaotic plot didn’t immediately jump to that hateful ‘Rule’ period.
She still had two years…
She looked at herself in the mirror, her fingertip touching the dark circles under her eyes, and above them, her pitch-black pupils, like they were soaked in thick ink.
This appearance seemed to overlap with herself from a certain memory fragment.
This was her desire. Yue Yiyue could clearly feel her wish to stop time at this moment.
But she couldn’t.
After the New Year, she had to contact Yu An. She needed to leave Gu Nanqiu for a while to search for her fragmented memories.
Only by knowing the nature of the gamble could she properly count her chips.
Her phone vibrated with a buzzing sound, and a message popped up: “I found a few more good movies. You can check them out when you have time. Also, I wanted to ask you, what are your thoughts on relationships? These few are all about love.”
Wiping her hands dry with the towel, Yue Yiyue unlocked the screen, pondered the message from the online friend for a moment, and then typed out the following line: “My thoughts on relationships? I tend to pursue the extreme kind, where the other person completely belongs to me. Perhaps it’s because I’ve owned so little in the past that I’m more obsessive about certain things.”
Since the person was an online friend who knew nothing of her past and whom she wasn’t certain she’d ever meet, and it was just a small question, Yue Yiyue didn’t hold back.
She stared at the words on the phone. This was a bad habit of hers, dating back to the orphanage.
Because she had so little, she felt she had to hold onto what she believed should be hers, no matter what.
Besides, she was indeed able to defeat those who tried to take her sister away.
Although in the end… she still failed to protect her sister.
But her sister said she didn’t blame her.
Her sister said she would wait for her in the future.
Future… wait…
At this instant, the memory fragment named “Sister” ignited in Yue Yiyue’s mind.
In a corner of the washroom mirror, something opened its eyes and quietly watched Yue Yiyue.
Yue Yiyue was completely unaware that she was being watched by something strange.
She was merely savoring this new addition to her memory.
Her sister, who had been with her for the longest time, lay in her arms. There was a long scar on her face, and it was pitch black inside, with no blood. But Yue Yiyue always felt as if something was about to crawl out of it.
Looking at her sister like this, Yue Yiyue didn’t feel any terror. Instead, it was those who tried to cut off her sister’s face to keep for themselves who panicked, screamed, and ran away, only to be crushed into pulp by something.
However, these things had nothing to do with Yue Yiyue, and she didn’t care.
Yue Yiyue only had eyes for her sister.
Her sister’s face began to shatter. She tried to cover her face, wanting Yue Yiyue not to see her in such a miserable state.
But Yue Yiyue, as if possessed, lowered her head and gently pecked at her sister’s wound. “Can feeding you my flesh and blood keep you alive?”
It seemed she had done this long ago, so the self in her memory spoke very naturally.
But her sister refused her. She only looked at Yue Yiyue. “In the future… you will fall in love with me through a book… and go to the world where the real me exists.”
“Yiyue… wait for me, okay?”
“Yiyue… just give me a little more time. You absolutely, absolutely must wait for me…”
Locking the screen and putting the phone into her pocket, Yue Yiyue went into the room to change her clothes and put on her bag. Standing in front of the mirror in the room, she subtly adjusted her expression. She then looked at Gu Nanqiu, who was already wearing her shoes at the entrance. “Did Mom go press the elevator? I’m coming, I’m coming!”
Waiting for the New Year with family was indeed a pleasant experience. During this time, Yue Yiyue took her mother to explore half of C City, dragging her along to eat at all the restaurants she and Gu Nanqiu had explored and found delicious.
Her mother also bought them many clothes in similar colors. When wearing them out, Yue Yiyue always felt as if her mother was buying them couple outfits.
After eating well and buying clothes, her mother suggested going to the school. Yue Yiyue discussed it with Gu Nanqiu, seeing that the school was mostly deserted due to the holiday.
The three of them strolled through the campus. It was quiet and peaceful. Occasionally, they would run into a professor out for a walk, but they were from another department and she had only seen them on the school’s official website.
It was a pity the cafeteria wasn’t open during the holiday, or else she could have treated her mother to a taste of the school food.
The food at a few of the stalls was genuinely good, and the people serving food in the cafeteria would even give Gu Nanqiu an extra two scoops of meat.
In the snack street, most of the owners had also returned home for the New Year.
To Yue Yiyue’s surprise, the barbecue place they had eaten at before was still open.
The owner saw Gu Nanqiu, walked over, and enthusiastically asked if their former classmates had all gone home. She hadn’t seen the child who always walked with her little cousin for a long time.
Recalling Wu Zhen’s situation, Gu Nanqiu nodded. “Yes, she went back. She went back to have a good New Year. I heard she was accepted for graduate studies at A University a while ago.”
The owner looked relieved upon hearing the answer. “That’s good, that’s good. I heard something happened at the school before, and I hadn’t seen the child since… Thank goodness, thank goodness, the Bodhisattva blesses.”
She wiped her hands on her apron and muttered to herself, “That child was quite well-behaved. She came often and would even lend a hand when things were busy. It’s just that she was easily startled by the fire from the barbecue grill.”
Yue Lu stood beside them, listening, and casually picked up a few vegetable skewers. “Then this place must be quite good, as it has repeat customers.”
Yue Yiyue had originally planned to take her mother out for Western food, but seeing that her mother didn’t seem to mind the barbecue, she quietly pulled out a plate and then turned her head to look at Gu Nanqiu, who had already gone to order fried rice noodles.
This is truly wonderful.
That evening, Yue Yiyue naturally ran between the two rooms.
One night sleeping with her mother, and one night sleeping with Gu Nanqiu.
Overall, life was stable and happy.
Just like that, amidst the sound of crackling fireworks, New Year’s Eve arrived.
Gu Nanqiu and Yue Lu were busy in the kitchen, having handed Yue Yiyue a gaming console to keep herself entertained.
When the Spring Festival Gala was playing, eight dishes and one soup were laid out on the living room table.
Yue Yiyue held up her beverage cup and approached Gu Nanqiu, asking if they would be visiting relatives later.
“Yes, they’re coming over tomorrow to pay their New Year’s respects and meet you.” Gu Nanqiu lowered her head and sniffed Yue Yiyue’s cup, making sure there was no alcohol in it. “Yiyue, you always talk about your sister at night… Is she a very important person?”
“Yes, she is,” Yue Yiyue heard Gu Nanqiu’s question. Her slightly furrowed brow relaxed, and a cheerful smile spread across her lips. “She is my very important sister. It’s just a pity that, due to certain circumstances, I can’t introduce you to her.”
“And I haven’t seen her for a very long time,” Yue Yiyue hooked Gu Nanqiu’s arm and put the cup in her hand. “I believe you two would have a great time if you met. She is very much like you.”
Listening to Yue Yiyue finish the sentence with some excitement, Gu Nanqiu nodded with a slight hesitation in the face of her expectant gaze. “Is that so?”
She then returned to her usual demeanor. “Well, that’s truly unfortunate. If I ever have the chance in the future, I would very much like to meet the sister you speak of.”
The Spring Festival Gala became background music. Gu Nanqiu and Yue Yiyue chatted idly, while Yue Lu, beside them, was looking down and typing on her phone, asking about the sister in a group chat.
She had noticed that Yue Yiyue seemed a bit off these past few days.
At night, she would get up and stare quietly at their faces, as if appreciating something.
While being watched by Yue Yiyue was certainly pleasant and exciting, a lack of sleep at night was bad for her health.
For the sake of Yue Yiyue’s health, they had justifiably added a little something to her meals.
Perhaps it was too much of a boost, as Yue Yiyue began to stay awake all night, just staring at them.
What a wonderful problem to have.
Yue Yiyue had no idea that her anomaly had been discovered. She was simply picking fish bones for Gu Nanqiu and peeling shrimp for her mother.
After the New Year, her mother would have to leave again. Although she hated to see her go, she would endure it.
Only when she earned enough money in the future could her mother rest.
“Nanqiu, Mom, if we have guests tomorrow, let’s all go see a movie the day after.”
“It’s a Spring Festival New Year’s film, and it looks very family-friendly. I’ve never watched one with you two before,” Yue Yiyue handed over her phone with the page already open. “Are you free at this time?”
“If you are, I’ll book the tickets.”
