My Sister Never Said She Was a Creepy Tale - Chapter 39
It was a snowy day, similar to the present.
The snow that day was also somewhat inexplicable. The morning had been sunny, but as school neared closing time, the snow began to drift down, covering the ground.
She stood in the snow, looking up at the rare sight, curiously opening her mouth, waiting for the white snowflakes to fall onto her tongue.
The small girl, with a large backpack and somewhat thin clothes.
This was the first time Yue Yiyue had seen snow. She couldn’t say she liked it, but she didn’t hate it either.
But on that day, she met a strange aunt who claimed to know her.
The aunt squatted down, studying her intently. Then, she smiled and took her hand: “Yiyue, I don’t have much time. Let me play with you to your heart’s content.”
Driven by an inexplicable impulse, Yue Yiyue didn’t run away. Instead, she nodded to the beautiful aunt in front of her, whose face gave the impression of a kind person.
They first went to the mall. Soft sweaters, thick cotton coats. The strange aunt earnestly instructed Yue Yiyue to take good care of herself and not to walk off with strangers—though she was different, of course.
Then she took Yue Yiyue to the high-end cake shop she often eyed longingly from the outside. The aunt waved her hand and bought several varieties, allowing Yue Yiyue only three bites of each.
Sweet cake, warm milk tea.
It felt like a dream.
Finally, they went to the amusement park, rode the carousel, and at the top of the Ferris wheel, the aunt held Yue Yiyue and seriously said: “You must live well, live until the moment we meet again. We will be fine.”
“What are you thinking about?” Ye Qiu tightened her grip on Yue Yiyue’s hand, interrupting her memory: “It’s rare to see such a nostalgic expression on your face.”
“Would you mind telling me? It might pass the time on this boring road.”
Yue Yiyue watched the white flakes fall on Ye Qiu’s hair, melt into water, and disappear.
Without directly answering Ye Qiu, Yue Yiyue simply asked curiously: “What is this place?”
“You can think of it as the gap between things. It can lead to the past, the present, and the future.”
Silence fell between the two after that statement.
Yue Yiyue didn’t know Ye Qiu well, although she could feel that the other person wanted to talk about something.
For Yue Yiyue, her hazy past wasn’t worth talking about, and she wasn’t good at discussing her own matters.
Her life was boring.
The two walked on in silence.
One in front, one behind.
Yue Yiyue followed behind and slowly found a small bit of fun: stepping into Ye Qiu’s footprints.
This made it feel as if only one person was walking, a game she loved as a child.
…
As a child?
Loved?
Yue Yiyue was momentarily lost in thought. Hadn’t she always gone home alone as a child?
A new memory quickly emerged.
No, that aunt came more than once…
Yue Yiyue vaguely remembered the figure, much taller than herself.
She appeared many times out of nowhere, occasionally tutoring her knowledge.
“Don’t think too much, Yiyue. This place is special, after all. It will have some influence on you, like bringing back some memories of the past, but you’ll forget them once you leave.”
A familiar voice, close at hand.
Ye Qiu turned around, looking with complicated emotions at the young person whose eyes were brimming with tears.
“So, back then…”
“Of course I would fulfill your small wish, Yiyue.” Ye Qiu opened her arms, immediately claiming the credit of her other self without hesitation.
They are one body anyway. This doesn’t count as deception.
No, it doesn’t count as deception!
The movement was the same as the one in Yue Yiyue’s memory of the aunt.
Yue Yiyue, like she did as a child, rushed into Ye Qiu’s arms like a small cannonball, sniffing the familiar scent in the woman’s embrace.
Looking up at the woman’s face, Yue Yiyue suddenly realized: Ye Qiu and Gu Nanqiu.
They were very similar.
Especially similar.
Then she remembered that Gu Nanqiu had an older cousin…
“I’m just an ordinary novelist, occasionally traveling through the seams of time to gather material. As an anomaly, I get ostracized, but this kind of life is also pretty good.”
“The story between you and me? It’s more complicated than you imagine, but, but I just want you to live a healthy and happy life.”
“Why didn’t I come to find you later?” Ye Qiu smiled gently, brushing away Yue Yiyue’s stray hair: “I was trapped in a certain place due to some incidents. I only rushed back recently.”
Ye Qiu patiently answered Yue Yiyue’s questions one after another.
“However, my journey continues, Yiyue. I still have many things to handle. Only when they are taken care of can I come to see you.”
The snow had stopped at some unknown point. The temperature warmed, and the boundless darkness welcomed the light.
It was time to part.
Yue Yiyue remembered the Boss’s instructions. She took off the heavy coat and placed it on the clean ground nearby.
She then took off the thick boots.
Just as she was about to step barefoot onto the ground, Ye Qiu handed her a pair of sneakers.
“I truly wish I could walk with you forever, but I can’t be that selfish.”
Ye Qiu looked regretfully at the spot of light surging towards them. She gazed at Yue Yiyue tenderly.
“Remember, no matter the past, present, or future, I am always by your side—”
When Yue Yiyue woke up, she felt a heavy weight on her chest.
It was as if something very, very heavy was pressing down on her.
And her vision was pitch black.
Is it still night?
Yue Yiyue felt something brush against her shoulder, something wet.
It carried a strange fishy smell.
Like a giant deep-sea mollusk was lying on her, and the creature’s mouth was exploring her nectar.
The absurdity of this thought made Yue Yiyue unable to suppress a giggle.
She immediately felt the weight on her body lighten.
Oh, it’s conscious sleep paralysis.
Yue Yiyue calmly closed her eyes again, letting herself fall back into the darkness.
But she vaguely heard crying near her ear.
It sounded quite mournful.
Yue Yiyue was too tired.
She couldn’t worry about these things anymore.
Her constantly tense nerves completely relaxed the moment she felt the familiar bed.
“Nanqiu, I’m so tired. Keep your voice down.” In her daze, Yue Yiyue squeezed out this sentence, using her last bit of strength to roll into the incredibly soft embrace and automatically gave a quick kiss.
Okay, quiet now.
Yue Yiyue could finally sleep in peace.
The night was dreamless. When Yue Yiyue woke up, she was first hit by the aesthetic blast of Gu Nanqiu’s beauty.
Gu Nanqiu looked exceptionally beautiful today.
Her complexion was rosy, and the lips that were usually pale were also very red today.
She lay beside her, every strand of hair seeming to glow.
Like the Sleeping Beauty from a fairy tale.
But Yue Yiyue was not the prince waking up the princess.
She turned and headed for the bathroom.
For some reason, Yue Yiyue felt sticky, though she couldn’t pinpoint it. She just felt strange.
Standing in front of the mirror, Yue Yiyue saw circles of red marks all over her body.
It was as if she had been tied up by something or circled by something.
Yue Yiyue poked the marks on her body; there was no pain.
Some areas felt slightly burning, as if they had been forcefully sucked.
But looking closer, those areas showed no abnormality.
Thinking was useless. Yue Yiyue stepped into the shower stall.
She turned on the hot water and quickly took a shower.
She had classes today. She would buy breakfast later and then wake Gu Nanqiu up.
She also needed to ask Gu Nanqiu if anything strange happened to her.
Just as she quickly finished planning what to do next, Yue Yiyue heard a knock on the door.
“Yiyue, why are you up so early? Can you lie down with me for a bit longer?” Gu Nanqiu’s voice came through the glass door. It seemed the fog inside was too thick; Yue Yiyue felt the voice was laced with water vapor.
It made her feel a strangely compelling excitement.
This feeling was completely new to Yue Yiyue.
“I have class soon. Wait, I’ll be out in a minute.”
It was now autumn, and the seven-day break was approaching. Yue Yiyue wanted to resolve everything before then so she could have a proper time off with Gu Nanqiu.
“Eh?”
“Yiyue, you’ve been missing for several days. It’s already National Day break now! I took leave for you from the department. I’ll go with you to cancel the leave when the holiday ends, okay?”
Gu Nanqiu’s yawning sound came from outside, followed by the dragging of slippers…
Yue Yiyue could imagine Gu Nanqiu’s appearance without having to look.
She quickly rinsed off the soap, dried her body, dressed, and returned to the bedroom.
Gu Nanqiu lay on the bed, hugging a doll, looking pitifully at Yue Yiyue: “Come here and let me hug you. I missed you so much.”
Damn it. It ruined her plans.
It wasn’t supposed to be like this!
When Gu Nanqiu sensed Yue Yiyue’s aura disappear and was about to rush over immediately, she was stopped by Ye Qiu, who appeared from who knows where.
“She needs to go there to retrieve some memories, otherwise she will never remember us. Gu Ye, you need to persuade her during this time. The sooner we return to being one body, the better it will be for Yue Yiyue. At least there will be no more lies.”
“Yiyue said that a relationship built on lies won’t last. Even for us, we only have three chances to deceive her.”
“As long as the last two are activated, we can return to the main body. But are you sure that the time Gu Ye spent with Yue Yiyue, compared to your time with Yue Yiyue, will really make the main body, that monster, fall in love with Yue Yiyue again?”
“That place needs presiding over. It’s your turn. After all, if Yue Yiyue is present when you go, she might notice something.”
Gu Nanqiu’s fist clenched and unclenched. Finally, she turned and headed towards the place she utterly loathed.
Back in the present, Gu Nanqiu burrowed into Yue Yiyue’s arms, rubbed against Yue Yiyue’s chest, picked a comfortable position, and slowly counted Yue Yiyue’s heartbeat. It was so comfortable being surrounded by Yue Yiyue’s scent. She really didn’t want to go back to those places full of filthy things.
But that’s her job!
It’s her primary job!
If she kept not going, the Main God would think she was slacking off and find an excuse to cause trouble for Yue Yiyue.
This feeling of having a weakness also made Gu Nanqiu blissfully ecstatic.
But she was also afraid—afraid of the day Yue Yiyue learned the truth.
But they won’t be separated.
“Were you worried while I was missing these past few days?” Yue Yiyue stroked Gu Nanqiu’s black, smooth hair, cautiously asking her.
“No, I saw my cousin, and she said she could bring you back.”
This was their well-rehearsed alibi.
Gu Nanqiu let out a cold huff, which also allowed Ye Qiu to find an opportunity to assert her presence.
But the tiny Yiyue from childhood was truly adorable.
Of course, she’s adorable now too!
Gu Nanqiu, the fervent, single-minded fan of Yue Yiyue, thought this as she looked up at Yue Yiyue’s captivating jawline.
