- Chapter 2.9 - Determination— “Glitching the Romance Game”
I walked through the school hallways and the library, searching for traces of “Serena” despite my fuzzy memories. In the library, there were several books she seemed to have read thoroughly, covering topics like magic theory and social etiquette. There were even notes written in the margins of her textbooks.
Since she was known as a top student, she or rather, I must have had quite a passion for studying. I was a serious student in my past life, too, but I certainly never had the experience of learning noble manners so seriously.
(Even though Serena was called a “villainess,” was she actually making a quiet effort? If so, was the bullying against Lily even real?)
The questions never end. Even though I think of myself as a “villainess” now, I don’t feel any wicked emotions. However, it is true that I feel uncomfortable around Lily. It’s because I doubt her “Saint-like” nature is real… or maybe, I am unconsciously on guard because she might take Alexis away.
No, that’s not it. I wasn’t supposed to be interested in the Prince at all. Yet lately, I find my heart being disturbed by him more often. Is this love? That’s ridiculous. A part of me still doesn’t want to admit it.
After finishing my round in the library and stepping outside, Noel spoke to me. “Lady Serena, I just heard that Miss Lily is bringing some kind of concern to the teachers. Please be careful.”
“To the teachers…?”
I have a bad feeling about this. Is Lily trying to establish her story as a “proven fact” before the Prince can finish his “re-investigation”? She might be trying to use the academy’s authority to punish Serena.
—For a moment, I felt dizzy. I’m already branded as a “villainess” anyway. If that’s the case, it might be better to completely destroy the “game route.”
Come to think of it, even in my past life, I wasn’t the type to follow a “game walkthrough” strictly. I actually preferred changing the way I played by using new elements or glitches. If so, even in this world where I live now—
“Alright, I’ve decided. I’m going to break this whole romance game. I’ll completely glitch the ‘official route’ that Lily is expecting.”
When I made that declaration in my mind, I felt strangely relieved. If I just stay passive, Lily will surely frame me as a villain and kick me out. If that’s the case, I should move boldly on my own.
If Alexis is starting to lean toward me, I could strengthen that even more. I’ll take the Prince’s kindness and use it to mess up the game’s plot. —Of course, whether I actually fall in love with him is a separate issue.
Noel looked surprised when he saw me suddenly smirk.
“Lady Serena, did something happen all of a sudden?”
“No, it’s nothing. …Noel, could you help me out for a bit?”
“Of course. If it is your request, Lady Serena, I will do anything.”
Noel smiled quietly and placed his hand over his chest to promise. With his reliable support, I immediately began thinking of a “counter-attack” against Lily.
—In a romance game, the heroine is justice, and the villainess is destined for punishment. I’ve had enough of those rules. I will intentionally trigger multiple “flags” with Alexis and stir up my position at the academy.
No matter how much Lily complains or what the royalty and teachers plot, I just need to create the “proven facts” first.
