My Possessive Boss Is Unexpectedly Needy - Chapter 21
Chapter 21
Before long, Yu Zining was brought to the entrance of a grand hotel. Rows of bodyguards lined the perimeter, forming a path with a long red carpet that led straight to the doors. Behind the barriers, a massive crowd of journalists swarmed like a dark cloud.
At that moment, Lu Yeyan stepped out from the entrance.
“It’s CEO Lu!”
Every light and camera flash pivoted toward him instantly. This level of reception was easily on par with an A-list celebrity attending a major gala.
Lu Yeyan walked toward the car with steady steps, and the door slowly slid open.
Under the harsh brilliance of the spotlights, Yu Zining’s pale skin appeared even more dewy and luminous. Dressed in a designer evening gown, his entire presence was elevated, making him look every bit the part of a high-society matriarch.
The moment Lu Yeyan saw Yu Zining, a slight smile touched the corner of his mouth. He extended his hand, and Yu Zining placed his own upon it. To the outside world, they looked like an incredibly affectionate and perfectly matched couple.
The camera shutters clicked incessantly. Before they could even reach the hotel entrance, a wave of screams erupted from both sides.
Turning to look, they saw fans in the crowd holding up LED light boards with the character “Yang” glowing brightly. A group of female fans was cheering and screaming hysterically.
Under the watchful eyes of Lu Yeyan and Yu Zining, a Lamborghini pulled up to the entrance, and out stepped the dazzling star—Li Yiyang.
Yu Zining was stunned. Li Yiyang? Thinking back to how he had attended Lu Yeyan’s wedding, it was clear his background was far from ordinary.
Li Yiyang stepped out of the car and blew a few kisses to the crowd, triggering another round of ear-piercing screams from his fans. Lu Yeyan watched this scene with a resigned arch of his eyebrow.
As Li Yiyang walked up to them, Yu Zining looked down, feeling inexplicably uncomfortable. It seemed he really wasn’t good at lying; the thought that Li Yiyang—who was constantly flirting with him on WeChat thinking he was some “big sister”—was right there made things quite awkward.
Li Yiyang threw a wink at Lu Yeyan. “Well? I guess my charm is still superior, huh?”
Lu Yeyan simply muttered, “Boring…” and led Yu Zining into the lobby.
…
The lobby was vast and opulently decorated. Bodyguards were stationed in every corner, and one could hardly walk two steps without encountering a server. Many guests had already arrived.
“Oh, CEO Ma!” Li Yiyang reached out to shake hands with a man in front of him.
CEO Ma was a middle-aged man wearing glasses who appeared very well-educated. He laughed. “The big star! Hahaha. Oh, and this must be Mrs. Lu. I had the honor of seeing you once at the wedding. Hello, my name is Ma Feng. I’m in the internet industry.”
Li Yiyang teased, “Oh, CEO Ma, you’re being far too modest.”
Lu Yeyan looked at Yu Zining and explained, “Our largest current network infrastructure is managed by CEO Ma’s company.”
Yu Zining shook hands with Ma Feng and offered a smile.
Ma Feng looked at Zining and said, “It’s all small-scale work. Without CEO Lu backing me up, my company wouldn’t be where it is today. If you ever need anything regarding the web—PR, film and TV resources, or even ‘gold fingers’ for games—just let me know.”
Yu Zining smiled and gestured: Thank you.
Ma Feng froze, looking at Yu Zining in surprise.
Lu Yeyan spoke up: “He said thank you.”
Ma Feng realized the situation immediately. He gave a polite smile and moved on to socialize with others. Li Yiyang studied Yu Zining; he hadn’t expected such a beautiful person to be mute, and he shook his head with a trace of regret.
Lu Yeyan led Yu Zining around to greet various guests, but whenever people realized Zining couldn’t speak, they stared at him with astonishment. Indeed, for a man of Lu Yeyan’s stature, he could have married anyone—yet he chose a mute.
In these business social circles, bringing a “wife” who couldn’t engage in diplomacy was almost like bringing dead weight. Sensing Zining’s unease, Lu Yeyan tightened his grip on his hand.
…
Suddenly, a few journalists were ushered in. Spotlights focused on the center of the hall. Lu Yeyan let go of Yu Zining’s hand and walked to the center.
“Everyone, I’ve invited you here today for a celebration. Today, YIY Group officially appoints the world-renowned designer from Japan, Ms. Li Ruixi, as our Design Director.”
As he spoke, the lights shifted to the staircase. A woman in a pale yellow gown descended slowly. Her slightly wavy long hair fell around her collarbones, and her fresh, elegant face looked like that of a fairy descending to earth. Her gentle smile had the power to captivate everyone in the room.
The woman reached the bottom and stood beside Lu Yeyan. Lu Yeyan smirked and opened his arms. “Ruixi, welcome home!”
Li Ruixi smiled gracefully and returned the hug. She whispered, “Now that I’m back, I won’t be leaving so easily.”
Standing to the side, Yu Zining felt like a complete outsider. The scene before him felt strangely sharp to the eyes.
Someone nearby whispered, “Now that is what you call a match.” “I heard they were childhood sweethearts. Li Ruixi is exceptionally talented.” “Shh, keep it down.”
A match? Hah. Childhood sweethearts? How many “childhood sweethearts” did Lu Yeyan actually have?
Li Yiyang rushed over. “Sister, you’re too much! You come back and head straight for Lu Yeyan without even coming to see me first.”
Li Ruixi chuckled. “You, you… you’re still the same, haven’t changed a bit.”
Then, her gaze landed on Yu Zining. She naturally recognized the dress—it was her own design. She walked over to Zining and asked Lu Yeyan, “Is this your companion for today? Quite beautiful.”
Yu Zining froze and looked at Lu Yeyan. Lu Yeyan lowered his gaze and said, “He is my wife.”
Li Ruixi looked momentarily embarrassed but quickly smoothed it over with a smile. “Oh, you! You’re terrible. I saw the news about your marriage and thought it was just a rumor. I didn’t realize it was real. Hello, I’m Li Ruixi. How should I address you?”
Li Ruixi was warm, socially adept, and carried herself with an air of sophisticated confidence.
“His name is Yu Zining,” Li Yiyang interjected.
Li Ruixi tapped Li Yiyang’s arm lightly. “I was asking him, why are you interrupting?”
Lu Yeyan’s dark eyes flickered toward Li Ruixi. “He cannot speak.”
“Oh?”
Li Ruixi initially showed surprise, but quickly adjusted the atmosphere. “Ah, it doesn’t matter. After all, when fallen angels come to earth, they are often envied by God. Come, let me have a drink to honor this beautiful angel.”
Everyone present was charmed by Li Ruixi’s beauty and wit, smiling with satisfaction. The journalists clicked away, capturing the image of this charming and brilliant returnee elite!
