- My Overly Anxious and Devoted Girlfriend Never Gives Up on Me
- Chapter 2.4 - Sakuraba-kun in Between
“Kasumi, let’s have lunch. Sakuraba-kun, you can join us too.”
“Yeah, sure, that’s fine.”
It had been a week since that day, and Yunagi-san came to my class every day.
At the same time, Shirato-san and I also increased our opportunities to talk.
Originally, Shirato-san and I had many similarities.
Neither of us were particularly talkative, we were both extreme indoor types who preferred quiet.
To top it off, we shared the common experience of being dragged around by Yunagi-san, so we gradually opened up to each other.
“You come here every day, Shizuno.”
“I thought Kasumi might be feeling lonely.”
“Sakuraba-kun, shall we eat together?”
“Yeah, that sounds good.”
“Waaah! I said I’m sorry!”
Of course, at first it felt like we were only talking because of Yunagi-san’s strategy.
But after spending some time together, we seemed to develop a strange affinity for each other, and now we’re like ordinary good friends.
And perhaps thanks to that, the sight of me, Shirato-san, and Yunagi-san talking together during lunch break was becoming familiar in our class.
The perception that Yunagi-san and I were fairly good friends had also formed among those around us.
Looking at it this way, it seemed safe to say that Yunagi-san’s strategy was progressing fairly smoothly.
However, separately from that, there was one problem.
“Aoto-kun, do you have a moment now?”
“Ah, Mikura-san. Sure, but what is it?”
Lately, Mikura-san had been calling out to me an awful lot.
Of course, I didn’t mind.
But it was true that compared to before, this kind of thing had suddenly increased.
Well, since it was none other than Mikura-san saying she needed me, I obviously couldn’t just brush her off.
I put away my finished lunch box and moved over near Mikura-san’s seat.
“There’s something I don’t understand in my studies. Could you teach me?”
Mikura-san said something quite unusual.
That Mikura-san saying she didn’t understand her studies?
I’d never heard that before.
If there was something her grades couldn’t handle, I should be even more clueless.
And if it’s about studies, there are people better than me.
Like Yunagi-san, for instance.
“Sure, but I probably won’t understand it either.”
“W-well, don’t say that. Everything is worth trying.”
That might be true.
But, hmm…
Then I suddenly felt someone’s gaze and turned to look.
When I did, I saw Yunagi-san glaring at Mikura-san with snake-like sharp eyes.
Somehow it felt like a scene I’d seen before.
From what I’d learned over the past few days, it seemed Yunagi-san and Mikura-san didn’t get along very well.
At first, I thought Yunagi-san was the only one directing hostility toward Mikura-san.
But just two days ago, I saw Mikura-san glaring at Yunagi-san’s back with eyes like a samurai who’d encountered his enemy.
I thought both of them were people everyone liked, but reality didn’t seem to be that sweet.
Well, they didn’t directly argue or fight, so maybe it wasn’t something to worry about too much.
“It’s this problem.”
“Umm…? Huh? Isn’t this a difference sequence? I think it’s pretty straightforward.”
What Mikura-san pointed to was a page from our math textbook.
Moreover, it was a problem that shouldn’t be that difficult.
Even I, who isn’t very good at math, could understand it, so it was hard to believe Mikura-san couldn’t solve it.
“Ah, ah. That’s right. That’s it, that’s it. How careless of me.”
Somehow, it sounded completely monotone, just like Yunagi-san.
This was getting more and more strange.
What exactly did Mikura-san want?
“Sakuraba-kun, hey.”
Before I knew it, Yunagi-san had come over to us.
Immediately, I felt the atmosphere tense up sharply.
“What are you two doing?”
“Ah, Mikura-san said there’s something she doesn’t understand in her studies.”
When I answered, Yunagi-san stared straight at Mikura-san.
Mikura-san glared back as if meeting her gaze head-on.
Somehow, the atmosphere felt dangerous.
“I see. If you’re done, shall we go? Hey, Sakuraba-kun?”
“I still have something I want to ask Aoto-kun. Don’t go deciding things on your own.”
Their gazes clashed with me caught in between.
What is this atmosphere…?
Moreover, without me noticing, our classmates’ attention had gathered on us.
Well, that was understandable.
That Yunagi-san and that Mikura-san.
If those two were fighting about something, of course people would be curious.
“W-what is this ‘something’ you want?”
“That’s none of your business.”
After saying that, Mikura-san suddenly grabbed my hand and started walking.
She seemed to be heading outside the classroom.
“Ah! Wait!”
Yunagi-san’s voice didn’t stop Mikura-san either.
I was practically dragged along as she led me away.
Somehow things had gotten strange.
In the end, what Mikura-san wanted was help going to get materials that would be distributed during fifth period.
While there were many sheets, with two people carrying them it wasn’t a big deal.
When we returned to the classroom, Yunagi-san was already gone.
Instead, I had a message from her on my phone.
‘I want to meet after school! Absolutely!’
This pattern again…
I resigned myself and simply replied ‘Okay’ before stuffing my phone back into my bag.
