- My Overly Anxious and Devoted Girlfriend Never Gives Up on Me
- Chapter 1.5 - Sakuraba-kun Who Cannot Become Heartless
“Ahh! I can’t take it anymore! This is awful!”
That day after school.
The moment she entered the classroom, Yunagi-san started making a beautiful yet noisy fuss.
“Naruse Honoka-san. She’s the small animal type, quiet and cute, a good gir. But! While that’s true! I can’t forgive her for making eyes at someone else’s boyfriend! Absolutely not! I know she doesn’t know about us so it can’t be helped, but still!”
Covering her cheeks with both hands, Yunagi-san sat down in the nearest seat.
Her usual charm had vanished somewhere, replaced by displeasure and anger at the forefront.
Yet her exceptional beauty remained, truly fitting for the flawless beauty Yunagi-san.
“So, we’re back to that topic. This is exactly why I didn’t want to meet up.”
“No! If I keep these feelings bottled up, who knows what I might do!”
“What do you mean, ‘these feelings’?”
When I asked, Yunagi-san flopped her face onto the desk and spoke in a fading voice.
“…Jealousy and anxiety.”
“Anxiety? You, of all people…”
“I am anxious! I’m so incredibly anxious! I almost cried multiple times during lunch break!”
“Th-that’s such an exaggeration.”
Lifting her face and twisting her mouth, Yunagi-san shouted.
Her overwhelming beauty and intensity made me flinch.
“It’s not an exaggeration! I don’t want to see Sakuraba-kun getting along with other girls! I keep getting sadder thinking he might fall for someone else before me.”
“So that’s why you were glaring at Naruse-san like that… She was scared, you know.”
“I regret that! But I don’t have any right to stop him. I want to respect Sakuraba-kun’s friendships too. But it’s so painfully…”
Saying this, Yunagi-san held her head.
But indeed, Yunagi-san seemed to be what you’d call dutiful, or perhaps earnest.
I honestly thought she’d complain more, but apparently she was just lamenting the current situation.
I had intended to give her various warnings, but with this, not only did they fail to land, I even started feeling a bit sorry for her.
Well, from a general perspective, I’m probably the worse one here.
But this is just who I am.
That’s why I told her “you should have stopped”…
This way, we’re just both suffering…
“…There’s one thing I want to correct.”
Without sitting down, I leaned against the desk and looked down at Yunagi-san.
Her eyes looking back at me were already beginning to moisten.
“I don’t think Naruse-san is making eyes at me or anything.”
“Yes, she is! That girl definitely likes Sakuraba-kun too!”
“She’s just a reading friend. I think we have a good relationship, but that’s it.”
“No, I can tell. Those are the eyes of a maiden in love.”
What’s that supposed to mean…?
Anyway, whether it’s Yunagi or Kazuma, everyone always wants to connect things to romance.
Do they really like romance that much?
“Then let me ask you, why do you think Sakuraba-kun became friends with Naruse-san?”
“Huh? …Because I go to the library often and she’s a library committee member?”
“Wrong. The correct answer is: because Sakuraba-kun saved Naruse-san when she almost fell from the stepladder while organizing the bookshelves.”
Yunagi-san said this proudly and without hesitation.
But…
“…Did that happen?”
“It did. Two months ago. And after that, you even helped with organizing the bookshelves. That’s when Naruse-san started talking to you more often. No doubt about it.”
Apparently, there was no doubt.
Yunagi-san’s tone was filled with confidence and certainty.
However, even if we concede that’s correct for argument’s sake.
“…How do you know about that?”
“Because I saw it.”
“You saw it? How?”
“Two months ago, was when I was already stalk… I mean, following Sakuraba-kun a bit. I happened to see that exchange in the library and how jealous I got.”
“Well, at least I’ve clearly understood that you’re a dangerous person.”
“I, I couldn’t help it! That was all I could do back then!”
“Though it’s not really my place to say, you could have just talked to me.”
“I, I didn’t know what to say.”
So, she says.
Apparently Yunagi-san is surprisingly timid after all.
“Well, let’s set aside Naruse-san’s feelings for now. Otherwise we’ll never finish.”
Feeling just a little, really just a tiny bit more affectionate toward Yunagi-san, I sat in the seat next to her.
“But I don’t have any special feelings for Naruse-san, and even if she confessed to me, I wouldn’t go out with her.”
I didn’t even understand why I was going out of my way to tell Yunagi-san this.
“…Really?”
“Yeah. Or rather, I never intended to date anyone in the first place. Of course, including you.”
“……”
“……”
“…Sakuraba-kun?”
“Ahh… so, well, what? …You don’t need to worry I think.”
But I somewhat disliked seeing her make such a sad face.
Because it didn’t suit her.
Even without romantic feelings, I think it’s not good for someone as wonderful as Yunagi-san to be sad.
“…Sakuraba-kun.”
“Wh… what?”
“I love youーーー!!”
“Quiet! Hey! Your voice is too loud! Someone might hear!”
“I love you! Sakuraba-kun! I really, really love you!”
Shouting loudly, Yunagi-san leaned against me.
The first time our bodies touched, I felt my heart leap.
“I’m going to tell everyone! I’ll spill the beans!”
“Stop! Don’t! And get away from me!”
“No! We’re dating so it’s fine!”
“Even if we’re dating, no! I’ll get angry!”
“I don’t care if you get angry! Right now, I really can’t hold back!”
“Stooooopーーー!””
I really should have firmly refused back then.
It hadn’t even been five days since I started dating Yunagi-san.
And I was already thinking that.
