- My Overly Anxious and Devoted Girlfriend Never Gives Up on Me
- Chapter 1.4 - Yunagi-san Looking This Way
“Can we talk about our plans for the bookstore during lunch break tomorrow?”
“Sure.”
“Yay! Then I’ll bring my lunch and come to your classroom, Sakuraba-kun!”
The next day’s lunch break arrived after that message exchange with Naruse-san.
“Sakuraba-kun!”
Naruse-san appeared in our classroom right after the end-of-class chime rang.
Her gentle, cute face and petite build. Her brownish bob cut swayed as she moved, and her school uniform looked great on her today, as always.
According to Kazuma, who’s sharp about these things (….), she’s quite popular among the male students.
Since Naruse-san has a wonderful personality too, that makes perfect sense.
“Thanks for going out of your way. I could have come to your classroom instead.”
“N-no, don’t worry about that!”
As she said this, Naruse-san sat in the empty seat in front of me and turned the chair toward me.
We spread our lunch boxes across one desk.
It’s a bit cramped, but it should work.
“Since we’re going anyway, I’d like to go to a big one.”
“Right! Should we take the train to Central Station? There’s a bookstore in the station building.”
“Sounds good. That seems like the biggest one around here.”
My discussion with Naruse-san went really smoothly.
With this, we should be able to settle our plans easily.
Just then, I noticed the hallway outside the classroom getting unusually noisy.
After exchanging glances with Naruse-san, we both looked toward the door.
I recognized this atmosphere.
This was definitely, without a doubt, her.
“Ah, Yunagi-san! What’s up?”
“It really is! Yunagi-san! Do you need something in our class?”
“Yes, I came to see a friend for a bit.”
While being called out to by girls in our class, Yunagi-san stepped through our classroom door.
Immediately, our eyes met perfectly.
This pattern again…
Please, don’t wave at me this time.
But Yunagi-san’s reaction was quite different from what I’d expected.
“…Huh?”
Just when I thought Yunagi-san had flashed a bright smile for a moment, she shifted her gaze slightly to my side, then suddenly made a face like a demon.
But she immediately turned away and sat down at a desk far from ours, in front of what appeared to be her friend.
What was that all about?
“D-did I just get glared at by Yunagi-san?”
“…Probably just your imagination.”
I could somewhat imagine the reason, but for now, let’s just say it was our imagination.
Just having Yunagi-san in the same room isn’t exactly pleasant, and if I dwell on it any further, things will just get awkward.
“Whoaaa! Yunagi-san is in our class! How lucky!”
Kazuma came over, shouting something exaggerated with a completely serious expression.
As noisy as ever, that guy.
“Huh? What’s this, Aoto? Going on a date with Naruse-san or something?”
When Kazuma spotted us, he called out with that annoying smirk of his.
“Wh-wha!? N-no! We’re just going to the bookstore together! Stop it, Seo-kun!”
While Naruse-san shook her head vigorously in denial, I silently drank my tea.
If I bothered to correct every one of Kazuma’s wild assumptions, there’d be no end to it.
“Aww. I thought Aoto had finally woken up.”
Kazuma said disappointedly.
Unfortunately, I’m always awake.
Still, I didn’t know Kazuma and Naruse-san were acquainted.
As expected of well-connected Kazuma, his social circle is immeasurable.
Suddenly curious, I glanced sideways to check on Yunagi-san.
She was emitting a dark aura I never would have imagined from her usual self, glaring in our direction.
More accurately, it seemed to be directed at Naruse-san.
Meanwhile, Naruse-san was happily munching on a rolled omelette with her small mouth.
“So, when should we go?”
“Huh? Ah, yeah. I’m free next Sunday.”
“Really? That day works for me too!”
“Then let’s make it Sunday. Is afternoon okay?”
“Yeah. Ah… i-if you’d like would you want to have lunch together too?”
“Sure. Then let’s meet before lunch.”
“Y-yeah! Let’s do that!”
And just like that, our plans with Naruse-san were quickly settled.
The rest of the time passed with small talk between Naruse-san, Kazuma, and me until lunch break was over.
“…Huh?”
My phone vibrated.
It was a message notification.
The sender was ‘Yunagi-san’…
‘I want to meet after school’
I glanced at Yunagi-san again.
This time, Yunagi-san was looking straight at me, gripping her phone angrily.
‘Why’
‘I just have to! Absolutely!’
‘I’m asking for the reason’
‘I’ll die if you don’t meet me’
‘You won’t die’
After I sent that reply, Yunagi-san in my line of sight had teary eyes and her mouth curved into a frown.
She looked like she might really start crying any moment now.
…Fine then.
‘5 PM, in this classroom’
After I sent that message, Yunagi-san nodded slightly with relief.
Looks like after school today is going to be particularly exhausting.
