My Omega Rival in Love [Interstellar] - Chapter 56
Nine Colors was caught somewhat off guard, but she was a battle-hardened pirate with overwhelming strength. She immediately countered Gu Nuan, but somehow, Gu Nuan managed to block her strikes.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, Gu Jin dangled her legs back and forth, looking perfectly at ease, even finding the mood to critique their fight.
“Nine Colors is holding back. That last move from Gu Nuan was a bit sloppy and overly aggressive.”
“Oh, that was beautiful! If Nine Colors had not reacted quickly, that move would have decided the match.”
Gu Jin’s nonstop commentary continued, her casual tone contrasting with the dull thuds of the combat. Hiding in the corner outside the door, He Yu had dark lines on her forehead. How could this person be so carefree?
Originally, He Yu thought Gu Nuan could only stall Nine Colors for a moment, but he was fighting with increasing ferocity. Wearing a micro-mech, he was practically holding his own against the unarmored Nine Colors. There was just one issue: Gu Nuan seemed to have forgotten to hand the mech over to her.
She messaged Gu Nuan through the communicator, her voice tight with tension. “Gu Nuan, you did not give the mech to me.”
There was no reply from him, but Gu Yin’s voice cut in. “If he did not give it to you earlier, do not ask now. Professor He, take the Young Marshal and escape. You will not be able to leave in a moment. Gu Nuan has his own way to get out.”
He Yu glanced at Gu Nuan, who was still tangling with Nine Colors. She took a deep breath, waited for the right moment when the two moved toward the outer corridor, and rushed into the room. She grabbed the arm of Gu Jin, who was staring at her in a daze. “Let’s go! Stop watching the show!”
It was not until Gu Jin was dragged off the bed that she fully registered He Yu’s presence. “Are you crazy? What kind of place is this? Is this somewhere you should be?”
While shielding He Yu and moving toward the exit, Gu Jin lowered her voice to scold her, her tone more severe than ever before.
“I am crazy! Why else would I come here to save you!” He Yu, who had been terrified throughout the journey, was in no mood to be gentle. “Indeed, you seem to be living quite comfortably here with beauties by your side. Perhaps my coming here was just an interruption! Consider it my mistake for meddling!”
Shaking off Gu Jin’s grip, He Yu marched ahead. It is true, Gu Jin lives here in comfort, and I am just an annoyance!
Gu Jin watched the furious He Yu and froze for a moment. Great, I have poked a hornet’s nest. A pregnant Omega is truly scarier than any hornet’s nest.
Despite her thoughts, Gu Jin moved quickly, stepping forward to shield He Yu behind her. She kept her eyes on the two fighting at the doorway to prevent Nine Colors from launching a sudden attack.
Nine Colors clearly spotted the two emerging from the room. She narrowed her eyes slightly. She had not noticed how He Yu managed to slip in, but she did not mind having a few extra guests on the Grim Reaper, especially ones she found interesting.
She kicked Gu Nuan away and used the momentum to land right in front of Gu Jin, reaching out to grab He Yu. Gu Jin would not let that happen. She caught Nine Colors’ arm and twisted it downward. In the blink of an eye, the two exchanged three moves, so quickly that He Yu could barely follow them.
A few moves later, the three stood in a triangle formation, with Gu Jin keeping He Yu tightly guarded behind her.
Nine Colors let out a light laugh, unfazed by the three-on-one situation. “In my territory, do you really think you can leave? I regretted forgetting to take the cute little beauty last time. Since she delivered herself to my doorstep, I will not be polite about accepting her.”
“Nine Colors,” Gu Jin began, fully aware of the dire situation. “I do not know what your ultimate goal is, but you were the one who provoked us first. If you choose to stop now, I can let bygones be bygones. We can sit down and talk this out calmly. If you insist on going your own way, I believe the Merendi Pirate Group will be buried with you.”
This was no idle threat. The Weize Empire possessed the power, but pirates were slippery, like eels, and difficult to eradicate, so most nations did not bother. However, if Nine Colors truly harmed Gu Jin and He Yu, it would be an act of open provocation against the Weize Empire. Gu Ting, all the way back in the capital, would never let the Merendi Pirate Group off the hook.
Nine Colors did not hesitate. In fact, her smile vanished entirely. That exquisitely beautiful face revealed a hint of madness and agony.
“You were the ones who provoked me first! Gu Jin! You owe me!”
The three of them froze at this shout. He Yu’s eyes flickered with suspicion as she looked at Gu Jin. “Your old romantic debt?”
“I am completely innocent!” Gu Jin, whose romantic history was a blank slate, jumped in protest. She stared at Nine Colors, whose face was as dark as a storm cloud. “Wait a minute, explain yourself. How do I owe you anything? This is our first time meeting, is it not? Do not go around framing people!”
“Framing you?” Nine Colors laughed with a touch of mockery. “Fine, I will let you understand why. My name is not Nine Colors; my surname is Ji, and I am Ji Shaoyan. Does that ring a bell?”
“Ji… Ji Shaoyan?” Gu Jin murmured subconsciously. He Yu stood by the doorframe, her eyes fixed on Gu Jin.
“Are you the child who was in Auntie Xu’s womb back then?” Although they had never met, Gu Jin had heard about this from her mother.
“Little Jin, my precious daughter, you are so beautiful. I wonder which little Alpha you will belong to in the future.”
“Oh, if only your Auntie Xu were still here. She was so beautiful, Little Shaoyan would surely have grown up to be a handsome Alpha. What a pity. Shaoyan, what a lovely name, but I never even got to call it out loud.”
…
As Gu Jin’s words trailed off, He Yu finally understood. Gu Jin had mentioned it once before: her mother had arranged a betrothal for her while she was still a fetus. However, both mother and child had suffered a great tragedy and had not survived—or so they thought. Looking at the situation now, it seemed the son was actually a daughter who had survived the disaster.
“Heh, I did not expect Young Marshal Gu to remember me.” Nine Colors, no, Ji Shaoyan, sneered, looking at Gu Jin with intense resentment.
“Even so,” Gu Jin accepted this reality, looking at Ji Shaoyan with complex eyes. “That was just a casual remark made by two mothers many years ago. Both you and I have differentiated into Alphas, so the betrothal is invalid. Furthermore, it is almost the ten-thousandth era; the Old Earth is long gone, and that custom of parents’ orders and matchmakers’ words vanished with it. I already have a lover. How can that count as me owing you? Can we please be reasonable?”
“Gu Jin, I did not expect you to be this kind of person.” He Yu’s voice was low, her eyes full of disappointment.
“I…” Gu Jin was at a loss for words, feeling suffocated. She kicked the white wall in frustration, leaving a dent.
It was just a casual comment! In the minds of Gu Jin and her mother, Auntie Xu and Ji Shaoyan had died over twenty years ago. Gu Jin had never even realized such a person existed. Now, just when she had found someone she loved and decided to be with her, this betrothed fiancée popped out of nowhere. What kind of nonsense was this? Did she have to live like a widow from birth? It was completely ridiculous!
And now, the person she loved was looking at her this way. Gu Jin felt aggrieved. They had not even met before today; how did she end up looking like a heartless traitor?
“Two Alphas cannot have a good outcome.” Gu Jin’s expression was worse than anyone else’s; her brain felt like it was going to explode. “The original betrothal was based on the premise that I was an Omega and you were an Alpha. Since we are both Alphas, the betrothal is inherently invalid. Do you understand?”
“And what if I were an Omega?”
Ji Shaoyan’s voice was low, but it had the effect of a highly concentrated particle-fission bomb, exploding in the ears of everyone present.
“Brother, what kind of joke are you playing? If Omegas were as strong as you, then Alphas might as well all go die.” It was not that Gu Jin was biased, but the fact was dictated by their genetics from the start.
The gap between A and O was far greater than the biological differences of humans before the interstellar era. A and O were separated by a group of Betas as vast as an interstellar map. Because they bore the responsibility of gestation, Omegas had fundamentally sacrificed many innate conditions that would have allowed them to become powerful.
Even He Yu, with her A-grade physique, was a global rarity. If someone were to discover an Omega with a super S-grade physique, whose strength rivaled the top Alphas Gu Jin and Qin Zhao, everyone would assume it was some illogical plot written by a hack writer. There would not even be shock, only disbelief because they would know it was fundamentally impossible.
While the Alphas remained skeptical, He Yu looked at Ji Shaoyan with eager eyes. If this were true, could it completely change the status of Omegas today? Could it prove that Omegas were capable of being powerhouses, thus allowing them to break free from their status as mere dodder plants and high-quality breeding dishes?
Under the gazes of those who were nervous, doubtful, or eager, Ji Shaoyan laughed silently with malice. Her fingers brushed her wine-red hair, slowly gathering it to the side to reveal her long, slender neck.
Omegas had a slightly protruding gland at the back of their necks, which Alphas and Betas lacked. It was the easiest way to identify them.
Until now, Ji Shaoyan had always worn her hair down, completely covering the gland. Nobody had ever suspected she was an Omega, and nobody had ever paid attention to it.
As the mystery unraveled, everyone’s breathing slowed down, including the three people on the other end of the communicator.
