My Omega Rival in Love [Interstellar] - Chapter 48
Watching Gu Jin leave, He Yu no longer had the mood to stand there. She simply returned to the top-floor garden to wander around.
He Yu did not know that Gu Jin was allergic to pollen. In her impression, Gu Jin was the nemesis of all things; there was nothing that could subdue her. It had to be admitted that for a long time, He Yu had felt envious of Gu Jin. Gu Jin did not have to be like her—constantly striving to be perfect, working hard to meet the expectations of her family, and aiming to be a qualified and outstanding member of the He family, always trapped within shackles.
To put it nicely, Gu Jin was like a breeze; to put it bluntly, she was a loose cannon. From a young age, she had been disrespectful to her elders, willful, and reckless, constantly causing trouble.
When He Yu was learning aristocratic etiquette, being elegant and refined, Gu Jin climbed the dome of the Imperial Palace and dismantled that massive pearl. When He Yu was studying astronomy and geography to be a model student, Gu Jin was busy beating up all the peers of her generation on the capital planet until they were submissive, nearly wearing down the threshold of the Gu family’s door with angry parents.
He Yu had often wondered what kind of punishment she would receive if she did those things. The thought alone was too terrifying to contemplate, so she would secretly sneak to the entrance of Gu Jin’s home to witness her fate.
When He Yu arrived, Gu Jin would be lolling crookedly in a chair, facing a group of parents who were sternly condemning her. She seemed completely indifferent to what they were saying, her exquisite, pale face carrying a touch of carelessness. Her slender fingers were nimbly turning a star cube, looking both lazy and infuriating. Marshal Gu sat behind Gu Jin, holding a teacup with an expressionless face, not looking at Gu Jin or the parents, as if he were lost in thought.
Little He Yu stood at the entrance, watching the farce, feeling as if she lived in an entirely different world.
As she was thinking this, she saw Gu Jin, who was looking down at her star cube, lift her head. Her gaze locked accurately onto He Yu. The guilty He Yu was startled and almost turned to run, but on that nonchalant face, Gu Jin suddenly flashed a bright smile, one that even dazzled He Yu.
He Yu was pulled back to reality by the suddenly escalating condemnations from the parents; that smile of Gu Jin’s had successfully led the parents to believe she was provoking them.
“Marshal Gu! You should at least discipline your daughter. Look at her now—committing so many mistakes yet remaining so defiant, with no intention of repenting. Is this how a member of the royal family should behave?”
He Yu heard the man say this.
Marshal Gu, who had been staring blankly while holding his teacup, finally snapped out of it. His eyes gradually focused as he slammed the table and stood up with imposing authority, looking at the group of parents. “You come here to complain, but can’t you speak properly? My daughter doesn’t look like a member of the royal family? Then who does? You?”
“Also, it’s just children fighting. Why are you so worked up? Your own sons couldn’t even beat my little daughter, and you still have the nerve to come here? If it were me, I’d go back and beat my son. So many little boys fighting one little girl, yet they end up wailing, bruised, and swollen, running home to find their mothers. Isn’t it shameful?” Marshal Gu took a sip of his tea, speaking with such righteous indignation that He Yu was left dumbfounded.
So… this is how one can argue a point?
Gu Jin, the target of the complaints, completely agreed with her father’s statement. She stood up from her chair and stepped onto it with one foot—a pose as delinquent as one could be, especially while tossing the star cube in her hand.
As soon as Marshal Gu finished, Gu Jin followed up. Facing a group of adults who were much taller than her, the young child did not flinch. “I, Gu Jin, beat whoever I wanted to beat. I’ll tell you all this—next time I catch your spoiled brats ganging up to bully someone, I will beat them every single time I see them, until they kneel and call me daddy the moment they see me! If you don’t believe me, just try it!”
However, the moment the arrogant Gu Jin finished speaking, she received a blow to the back of her head, sent flying off the chair by a slap from Marshal Gu.
Little Gu Jin rubbed the back of her head, glaring at her father. Just as He Yu thought Gu Jin was going to get a beating, she heard Marshal Gu speak.
“What do you want with a bunch of cowardly sons who bully the weak and fear the strong? Besides, your sons are also members of the royal family. Do you think they are worthy?”
This time, even Gu Jin was shocked. She couldn’t even care about the slap she had just received and gave her father a thumbs-up. “Dad, you’re right. They aren’t worthy.”
The father and daughter performed in perfect harmony, successfully making the group of accusing parents purple with rage until they stormed out of the Marshal’s mansion.
He Yu watched the parents leave in a crowd, then looked at the harmonious father and daughter inside. She stood at the gate in confusion. When Gu Jin looked toward her, she didn’t have the courage to speak and turned to run away in a panic.
Later, He Yu learned that Gu Jin had acted to stand up for the child who was being bullied. The matter even reached the then-emperor, the current Old Emperor. But the outcome was as expected; with the royal family’s tradition of protecting their own, not only was Gu Jin unharmed, but those parents were also given a stern warning by the Old Emperor. Not only that, those spoiled brats were severely beaten by the then-narrow-minded Crown Prince, and they were so scared that they would run faster than rabbits the moment they saw the Gu siblings.
Of course, Gu Jin wasn’t always that lucky. He Yu had also seen Gu Jin punished many times, mostly because she had destroyed palace property again or had teased her father, the Marshal. Remembering how Gu Jin used to hold her head, her face scrunched up, being punished with frog jumps at the door, He Yu couldn’t help but smile.
Leaning against the chair beside her, a faint smile still lingered on He Yu’s cold face. From birth, she and Gu Jin seemed like two contrasting sets—with vastly different lives and attitudes, making their hostility feel so natural. However, the current relationship between them left He Yu feeling at a loss.
As the smile faded, He Yu placed her hand on her stomach, lowering her eyes.
Back on the capital planet, He Yu had realized that her feelings for Gu Jin had changed. She was not someone who liked to escape or refuse to face things; she simply needed time to repeatedly think and deliberate. Fortunately, Gu Jin liked her too, and what was even more fortunate was that Gu Jin did not force her to make a quick decision, instead giving her enough time to think it through and make up her mind.
Since she was born, Elder He had taught He Yu that she must always choose the optimal solution—the one that would maximize her benefits. He Yu had always firmly believed in this, even if there were times when she did not like that path. In the current situation, He Yu naturally knew that the optimal solution was to marry Gu Jin.
Their families were evenly matched, their parents no longer opposed it, she was pregnant with Gu Jin’s child, Gu Jin liked her, and she wasn’t without feelings for Gu Jin. Furthermore, in every aspect—appearance, ability, and status—Gu Jin was among the top of the younger generation in the Weize Empire, with almost no one to compare to her.
What a perfect optimal solution. But this time, He Yu hesitated and even chose to avoid and evade the topic. When the Emperor said he could bestow a marriage upon them, she remained silent.
For so many years, He Yu had walked on thin ice, thinking ten steps ahead for every step she took, being cautious and careful, with every footstep she left being exactly the same. Gu Jin was different; she was like a child, walking however she wanted, taking it one step at a time. Comparing the two, He Yu was not sure if she could reach the end with Gu Jin based on the attraction that had just sprouted over the last few days. Because she wasn’t sure, she couldn’t take that step.
When she was at the Imperial Palace, He Yu understood clearly: she would regret it if she didn’t marry Gu Jin. But she wasn’t sure if she would regret it even more if she truly did marry Gu Jin. She wanted a partner who was one in soul and dedicated to the end, but judging by the traditional style of the royal family, that was too difficult.
In short, He Yu was now comparing which of these two regrets she could better accept. Unfortunately, she didn’t have the answer herself yet.
Using the excuse of going out to relax, He Yu had accepted Gu Jin’s invitation to come to Rota Star. On one hand, she wanted to see the mechas in person; on the other, she wanted to give herself and Gu Jin a chance to make that decision. Of course, before making the decision, He Yu refused to have any overly intimate contact or any form of deeper relationship with Gu Jin, just in case she chose a different path later, so they wouldn’t find it too difficult to separate.
As He Yu sorted out her thoughts, Gu Jin, who was completely unaware, was standing on the interstellar battleship, looking at the massive “Death” ship in the distance.
The other party seemed in no hurry to leave this time, and even had the mood to compare the number of weapons they had with Gu Jin’s side.
Watching the battle, which looked intense but was actually hitting the defensive walls, Gu Jin frowned in confusion. “Does this Madilon think they have too much time on their hands? Or do they think their weapons can break our defensive walls?”
“I think it’s the former.” The Weize Empire’s defensive fortifications were known throughout the galaxy; once the defensive walls were up, basically no weapon could destroy them. Gu Yin felt it was impossible for the Madilon Pirate Group not to know this. Excluding the second possibility, only the first remained.
“Call out to the opposite side and ask them what they are trying to do.” Since the other side did not intend to fight to the death and had not harmed any of her people, Gu Jin did not intend to kill them either, planning to negotiate first. However, having no way to contact them, she had to abandon high-tech communication and adopt the most primitive method: shouting before the battle.
Taking out a special space megaphone, Gu Yin shouted to the pirate group opposite, “We are the Weize Empire, Rota Star, subordinates of Young Commander Gu, Rota Star garrison! What is your intention in coming here? Can we sit down and talk properly?”
After calling out three times, the enemy’s firepower weakened. Gu Jin directly raised her hand to order a ceasefire, and the other side followed suit. Just when Gu Jin thought they were going to reply, she saw that massive “Death” ship turn nimbly and run away…
“Young Commander, it seems they have run away.” Gu Yin put down the megaphone with a complicated expression. That was too decisive, wasn’t it?
“Do I not have eyes of my own?” Gu Jin held back a breath, not expecting this to happen. “If they had the guts, they should have fought us to the end. If they didn’t, they shouldn’t have come to provoke us. What is this? Do they have too much ammunition and came here to consume it?”
“What do we do now?” Gu Yin couldn’t help but laugh or cry. The style of the Madilon Pirate Group was too bizarre; this didn’t even count as provocation or harassment.
“Go home. The next time they come, hold them back. Don’t bother calling out anymore; we will take our mechas directly to their base. I want to see what kind of craziness they are up to!”
Gu Yin indicated he understood. Gu Jin did not stay long, checking the defensive fortifications briefly. After confirming there were no issues, she and Gu Yin returned the way they came.
At the dormitory entrance, Gu Yin went to the training field, while Gu Jin headed to the dormitory. She had been talking to He Yu earlier but hadn’t finished.
Arriving at the dormitory manor, she didn’t find He Yu in the courtyard. Gu Jin simply pulled up the house’s smart butler. Knowing He Yu was on the top floor, she leaned against the railing on the fourth-floor corridor with a difficult expression, asking the smart butler to notify He Yu to come down.
When He Yu came down, she saw Gu Jin leaning against the railing, bored, playing with her light brain. Thinking of the thoughts she had just sorted out, she maintained a cold look. “What do you want?”
“Didn’t we only finish half of what we were saying earlier?” Putting away the light brain, Gu Jin looked at He Yu, not feeling that anything was wrong with her behavior—after all, she had been watching He Yu like this for over twenty years.
He Yu remembered the interrupted topic. “Oh, then can you tell me now why I need to hide my identity?”
“Of course,” Gu Jin said, keeping a five-meter distance from He Yu. “You are the developer of the new-style mecha. Previously, the new-style mecha had an accident. Although it wasn’t your fault, it did indeed cause tens of thousands of soldiers to die in that sea of stars outside.”
Thinking of this, their moods both became heavy. Gu Jin continued, “Those soldiers had lived and died with us for many years, and there were even thousands of high-ranking officers who are now… anyway, that’s how it is. So now, the soldiers have severe resentment toward the new-style mecha, and they hate you by association. If you want to enter and leave the military freely, it is best to hide your identity.”
Listening to Gu Jin’s explanation, He Yu realized what was going on. Since it wasn’t her fault and she was also a victim, she hadn’t thought of this. What surprised her was that while Gu Jin appeared careless, she was actually very thoughtful.
He Yu, who had faced angry crowds before, had no intention of reasoning with the soldiers—everyone understood reason, but people weren’t just rational.
Expressing understanding for Gu Jin’s arrangement, He Yu had no objections and nodded in cooperation. “I understand. I will be careful. Also, I have one more question for you.”
Meeting the seriousness in He Yu’s eyes, Gu Jin was stunned and couldn’t help but become serious as well. “Ask.”
“Why were you so firm in believing in me back then? Even when no truth had emerged and all evidence pointed to our family, you insisted that there was another possibility?”
“Because…” Gu Jin slowly lowered her head. Just when He Yu thought Gu Jin was going to make a joke like last time, she saw Gu Jin look up and smile slowly. “Because you are He Yu.”
Her heartbeat instantly went into chaos.
