My Omega Rival in Love [Interstellar] - Chapter 47
“Fine, I will not tell your Young Marshal Gu about this, but you must also stop calling me Sister-in-law.” Hearing Gu Nuan call her “Sister-in-law” one time after another, He Yu felt a surge of irritation. This Gu Jin was truly lacking any sense of decorum at all times.
“Understood, Madam.” Gu Nuan nodded as requested, responding with such natural ease that it felt completely devoid of awkwardness.
He Yu: “???”
Before He Yu could say anything more, Gu Nuan took a step forward, entered a passcode, and opened a large gate. Only then did He Yu notice that they had already reached the dormitory area.
“Madam, there are no anti-gravity transport devices here, so we have to walk. It might be a bit tiring. If you feel unaccustomed to it, you can ask the Young Marshal to grant you levitation clearance.” After the gate opened, He Yu looked at the uniquely shaped dwellings ahead and nodded at Gu Nuan’s explanation.
“This side is the dormitory building for ordinary soldiers. They often tinker with things on their own, so the shapes of the houses are a bit strange. Please do not be offended.” As they passed a dormitory building covered entirely in skull decorations, Gu Nuan smiled awkwardly. These guys have even turned the military dormitories into something so bizarre!
However, He Yu did not think much of it. Situated on a garrison star, the troops had nothing but dull training day in and day out. Since their own rooms were the only place they could find some entertainment, it was only natural that they would want to fix them up properly.
“This area is the residential district for regular military officers.” It was like stepping into an entirely different world. He Yu looked at the military-green, neat, and solemn buildings before her, while Gu Nuan continued his diligent introduction. “Generally speaking, you rarely see people in the residential area, as they are mostly outside training or executing missions.”
It was true; in the long time the two had been walking, they had not seen a single person.
Following Gu Nuan, they walked all the way to the innermost part where a manor castle with a garden, fountain, and helipad appeared. Gu Nuan tapped several times in the air in front of them and entered a passcode. After the space rippled like water, Gu Nuan turned back to look at He Yu, signaling that they could continue forward.
Looking at this absurdly large residence, He Yu was astonished. “Is this Gu Jin’s dormitory?” How on earth does this relate to the word ‘dormitory’? This is a full-fledged luxury vacation manor!
“Yes, usually the four of us also live here to ensure Young Marshal Gu’s safety, but most importantly, to remain on call at all times.” Passing through the massive helipad, the colorful central fountain, and the year-round blooming garden, they finally stood at the entrance after crossing a patch of open space and two corridors.
After another round of passcodes, Gu Nuan took He Yu on a tour of the interior. The first floor was entirely a training ground, the second floor housed the rooms for the four members of the guard unit, the third floor was for leisure, the fourth was Gu Jin’s room, the fifth was a conference room, the sixth was an attic, and there was even a sun garden on the top level.
Each floor was as grand as the exterior suggested, resembling a monarch’s castle. The decor was luxurious and exquisite, and the space was more than sufficient. He Yu even wondered what Gu Jin possibly kept in the rooms that she occupied alone.
Regrettably, Gu Nuan did not have the authorization to enter Gu Jin’s room, so she could not visit it for the time being.
When they reached the very top, where patches of bright sunlight spilled over the garden, He Yu noticed the difference between this place and the garden below. All the flowers here were extremely precious and rare varieties. None of them had been genetically modified by humans, but they required delicate care in greenhouses; some were even extinct in the wild.
“I could not tell; does your Young Marshal Gu like flowers this much?” Carefully bending down to touch the indigo petals, He Yu found sparkling pollen sticking to her fingers, looking quite beautiful.
“Hah, it is not that Young Marshal Gu likes flowers. These were all left behind by the Young Marshal’s mother before she passed away. The Young Marshal has a pollen allergy, so she never comes here. This place is usually maintained by Gu Yin.”
With a shrug, Gu Nuan felt quite helpless. Young Marshal Gu cannot stand flowers, yet she keeps so many here, inside and out. As for the trouble of maintaining them? Well, that falls to us! Ever since this task was handed to Gu Yin, Gu Nuan had completely resigned himself to being a little gardener, all because he was the only one of the four who could not beat Gu Yin in a fight.
Looking at the thriving flowers, He Yu’s expression shifted slightly. This was the second time today she had heard something about Gu Jin’s mother. “Did your Young Marshal Gu’s mother live here?”
“No. This manor… no, this dormitory was built only after the Young Marshal arrived. The Young Marshal’s mother passed away more than twenty years ago.” Seeing that He Yu had no further interest in the place, Gu Nuan simply led her downstairs, not forgetting to close the protective barrier before they left. Otherwise, if something happened to these flowers, Gu Yin would crush him before Young Marshal Gu even had the chance to. Sigh, how miserable I am.
When they reached the attic, He Yu stopped walking, as she thought she heard a faint sound. “What is in this attic? I thought I heard a noise just now.”
“Madam, please, whatever you do, do not be curious about this attic.” Gu Nuan, who was walking in front, turned around. “There is a small animal the Young Marshal keeps inside that only recognizes her. It is best if you do not approach this area; it could be dangerous.”
Gu Jin keeps a pet? He Yu realized how little she actually knew about Gu Jin. Even having memorized those ridiculous “fan etiquette” rules, that was merely basic fan knowledge, which was far too detached from the real Gu Jin. For instance, those rules mentioned nothing about Gu Jin having a pet.
While He Yu was still wondering what kind of pet Gu Jin kept, Gu Jin, along with Gu Yin and Gu Jing, had arrived at the military command center. They had already reviewed the pirates’ activity locations and it was now time to figure out how to determine the pattern of their movements as quickly as possible.
Interstellar pirates were actually quite common, but she had truly never seen pirates so suicidal that they dared to run to Rota Star. After all, Rota Star was a renowned Weize defensive star; running here to provoke them was as ridiculous as a petty thief trying to steal the sign off a police station.
Marking the recent locations of the enemy’s activities, Gu Jin looked at the map, deep in thought. Throughout history, there were generally only two ways to deal with interstellar pirates: lure the enemy deep to set a trap and annihilate them, or engage in peace talks by contacting someone within the pirates’ organization to convince them to leave quietly.
“Young Marshal, this Merendi Pirate Group is notoriously arrogant. It is said that no one has ever been able to capture them, nor has anyone been able to engage in peace talks with them. Not even their leader’s identity or appearance is known. All that is known is that the person has a code name: ‘J.’ Many refer to him as Mr. J or ‘The Grim Reaper.'”
Gu Yin’s fingers moved, and a massive interstellar spaceship appeared on the conference room screen, with the word “Grim Reaper” engraved on the hull. “This is Merendi’s flagship, the Grim Reaper. No one knows its origin, but its power has indeed caused many to suffer.”
Supporting her chin with one hand, Gu Jin tapped on the table. “Is there any way to contact their leader?”
“Currently, there is no way. They refuse all communication with us.”
“This is interesting.” On this point, Gu Jin was truly baffled. As long as they were interstellar pirates, they must want something—whether it be resources, treasures, or food. Yet, the enemy wanted nothing and simply came to pester them. Isn’t that infuriating?
“Do not attempt to contact them again. Expand the defense line by double; absolutely do not give them any chance to approach Rota Star. Open fire as soon as a target is detected, but do not pursue.” Gu Jin’s idea was simple: since they wanted to play with her, she would certainly accompany them to the end.
“Should we still send people for long-range reconnaissance patrols?” Gu Jing, who had been silent until now, spoke up, as this was his primary responsibility.
Gu Jin shook her head, feeling it would be a waste of effort. “No, it is a waste of energy. Just guard the defense line. I will go and meet them in a couple of days.”
After giving simple instructions to the two, Gu Jin handled some military affairs that had recently piled up on Rota Star. Rota Star was in a semi-independent state, with all command authority resting in the hands of the Rota Star Marshal; even the Emperor did not have the right to interfere. Of course, this was also because of Gu Ting’s absolute trust in Gu Jin, though Gu Jin personally felt it was because Gu Ting was just too lazy.
After finishing the military tasks and checking on the soldiers’ training, Gu Jin could not wait to return, wanting to see He Yu’s thoughts on her new home.
By the time Gu Jin returned to her manor dormitory, Gu Nuan had already returned to his post. Only He Yu was standing in the garden at the entrance, seemingly examining the defensive facilities of the surroundings.
Unlike the series of password locks Gu Nuan had encountered along the way, Gu Jin arrived unimpeded. She walked right up to He Yu, but He Yu, who was immersed in studying the blast-proof devices on the garden streetlamps, did not notice her at all.
“What are you looking at?”
The voice rang out beside He Yu’s ear unexpectedly, giving her a start. He Yu turned around and stepped back half a pace, looking at Gu Jin, who had suddenly appeared behind her. “Are you done with your work?”
“No, I just missed you and came back to check on you.” Gu Jin had grown increasingly skillful at teasing He Yu. Now that she was away from the constraints of the Capital Star and on her own turf, Gu Jin became even more unrestrained.
He Yu did not believe a single word of Gu Jin’s claim. She withdrew the expression on her face, returning to that untouchable, aloof manner, and brought up another matter. “Can you stop having them call me ‘Sister-in-law’ and ‘Madam’? Do you not have any idea what kind of relationship exists between us?”
“Uh…” Gu Jin’s eyes rolled as she rubbed her neck. “You are the mother of my child?”
“Get lost!”
Bringing this up only made He Yu angry. How dare Gu Jin intentionally say that!
She had been pregnant for over a month now. Once she hit the three-month mark and the pregnancy began to show, it would be impossible to keep it a secret. He Yu had not yet figured out what to do, and she was already frustrated enough without Gu Jin grinning at her.
“Alright, alright, is this not just to hide the truth from others?” Seeing that He Yu was truly about to get serious, Gu Jin instantly wilted and coaxed her gently, “It is better if your identity as He Yu is not exposed for the time being. Let us just treat this as a cover.”
“Why?” He Yu had wanted to ask this ever since Gu Jin first gave her those instructions. “Is there something shameful about me?”
“It is not that it is shameful. It is quite complicated, but it is just…”
“Young Marshal!” Just as Gu Jin was about to say something, Gu Yin suddenly appeared at the entrance. After opening the gate, she walked over with a look of urgency. “Young Marshal, traces of pirate activity have been discovered in the southeast direction. We have temporarily contained them, but should we set off immediately?”
What a coincidence; Gu Jin had just arrived, and the pirates had arrived too.
The situation was sufficiently urgent. Gu Jin nodded, supported He Yu’s shoulder, and instructed, “Stay at home and behave yourself. I will talk to you more when I return.”
There was no time to delay. With only that much said, Gu Jin and Gu Yin left in a hurry. A medium-sized interstellar warship appeared out of thin air on the helipad, and within the blink of an eye, it had vanished completely from He Yu’s sight.
