My Omega Rival in Love [Interstellar] - Chapter 42
True to Gu Jin’s expectations, Gu Ting, who had just woken up from his nap, sneezed twice the moment he opened his eyes. He rubbed his nose and sat up, grumbling, “Who is that guy Gu Jin cursing me about now?”
He wandered outside in a somewhat lazy manner. At the entrance, he saw Xiao Ze standing with his back to him. Xiao Ze’s tall figure looked somewhat lonely; hearing the door open, he turned around, his handsome features etched with sorrow.
“The Xiao family has launched an uprising. The Imperial Palace is surrounded.”
Xiao Ze’s voice was hoarse. Clearly, he had already learned that Xiao Yuqi was a Zerg, and in addition to his heartbreak, he looked thoroughly exhausted.
Gu Ting adjusted his collar. He was half a head taller than Xiao Ze, and as Xiao Ze kept his head slightly bowed, Gu Ting could only see the top of his head. He raised his hand to ruffle Xiao Ze’s hair, then bent down slightly to look him in the eye. “My condolences.”
Looking at Gu Ting, Xiao Ze nodded and composed his expression. “What do we do now?”
“Are the Old Emperor and the Old Marshal still in the palace?” Gu Ting withdrew his hand and started walking outside.
“They are still at the Chess Pavilion, playing.” Xiao Ze had to admire the calm attitude of the two elders. Even though the outside world was surrounded like an iron bucket, inside, with only a few people present, they remained unmoved, playing Ludo.
Having anticipated this, Gu Jin wasn’t surprised. “Has Gu Jin not returned yet?”
“The battle at the Xiao family’s gate just ended. They should have reached the outside of the palace by now, but I fear they are outnumbered.” The Imperial Palace offered a view of the capital’s main streets. Xiao Ze had seen the events at the Xiao residence earlier, but since Gu Ting hadn’t woken up yet and he couldn’t enter Gu Ting’s room, he had only been able to wait outside.
After briefly understanding the situation, Gu Ting sat on the high throne in the center of the Imperial Palace and beckoned to Xiao Ze. “Sit down next to me; let’s watch a good show.”
Xiao Ze sat down skeptically on the throne one meter away, completely failing to understand what Gu Ting was up to. Big Brother, what time do you think it is? Is just sitting here like this really okay?
After Xiao Ze sat down, he saw Gu Ting take out his light brain to contact Gu Jin. Xiao Ze exhaled in relief; it seemed this had been coordinated with Gu Jin, so there shouldn’t be any issues.
On the other side, the group crouching in the corner saw Gu Jin’s light brain flickering and gathered around to await orders. Gu Jin didn’t shy away and directly connected to Gu Ting’s video call. Seeing the Emperor’s image, the group felt their anxiety instantly ease by half.
“Gu Jin, you should not rush over just yet. I have been the Emperor for so many years and I have never experienced the feeling of a palace coup. Let me finish enjoying this thrill first.”
Xiao Ze: “???”
He Yu: “…”
Imperial Guards: “…”
Everyone was worried about your safety, yet you just wanted to enjoy the thrill of a performance!
Drop the guns! I quit!
Just kidding; quitting was not an option. The group only complained internally, but they were also reassured that the Emperor was truly in no danger, which made them feel a bit more relaxed.
Gu Jin only raised an eyebrow at Gu Ting’s request. “Fine. Just do not play yourself into trouble.”
“This kind of low-skill rebellion is not worth worrying about at all. Alright, hide yourselves, do not come over yet, goodbye!”
Gu Ting closed the feed. Gu Jin put away her light brain, looked at the indescribable expressions of the people around her, and shrugged. “Want to play a round of Fight the Landlord?”
One hour later, the rebel allied forces, who had been waiting at the gate to have a life-or-death battle with Gu Jin, were still waiting.
They were nearly sun-baked into dried meat, so where the hell were Gu Jin and the others?
“Reporting to the Eldest Prince, the palace control center has been cut off! We can attack!” a soldier reported beside “Xiao Yuqi.”
“Wang Zha.” Through the palace surveillance system, Gu Jin, who had overheard this, threw down her last two cards. She looked at the repeatedly defeated He Yi and Gu Ling, then waved her hand. “Not playing anymore; there is a new development.”
He Yu, who had been sitting beside Gu Jin with her eyes closed, opened them. She really did not want to watch this bunch of people neglecting their duties any longer.
The group quickly and professionally arranged themselves into formation. Gu Jin leaned against the wall, thoughtful.
Gu Jin understood Gu Ting, and she understood even better how difficult it was to approach the palace control center. Unless Gu Ting cut it off himself, it was impossible, unless one used force to smash through the entire palace like Gu Jin usually did.
Since the soldier said it had been cut off, Gu Jin could figure it out instantly: Gu Ting must have cut it off himself. Even if this was just a game, was he not taking it too far?
Watching the army ahead give up waiting for Gu Jin and enter the palace directly, Gu Jin scratched her head and contacted Gu Ting again. “What are you doing?”
“Gu Jin, I think I played it a bit too hard!” Gu Ting’s voice came through. “I cut the control authority, but now I cannot reconnect it. You guys hurry back! Protect the Emperor! Protect the Emperor!”
Gu Jin: “…”
Everyone: “…”
One really gets the feeling that this Emperor is not the brightest bulb in the box.
Gu Jin finally understood why the Imperial family, despite receiving the best protection and upbringing, still suffered from dwindling numbers after thousands of years. This could not be blamed on others; it was all because the royals were too good at self-destruction. Each one of them was a master of seeking death.
Gu Jin did not have time to scold Gu Ting anymore. She gestured to the people behind her, and the trained team split into four squads, each heading out. Suddenly, only He Yu, her brother He Yi, and Gu Ling remained by Gu Jin’s side.
“He Yi, take your sister home. The control of the He residence should have been restored. Stay home and do not come out. Gu Ling, let’s go.” Pushing He Yu toward He Yi, Gu Jin knew this time probably would not be as easy as before, so she did not dare bring He Yu along and took only Gu Ling with her as she stepped out.
“If you think I am a burden, I can go home myself. He Yi might be lacking in other areas, but his combat power is decent. Leave him by your side.”
He Yu also knew she was pregnant and did not want to cause trouble for Gu Jin, but Gu Jin had so few people with her right now, and He Yi was at least a decent combat force; how could he be wasted protecting her?
Looking at He Yu’s firm gaze, Gu Jin shook her head helplessly. “Forget it. I will not be at ease if you go back alone. Come with me. Remember, protect yourself. Once inside, stay with Empress Xiao Ze and do not fight.”
He Yu had no objections to that. She nodded and walked side-by-side with Gu Jin toward the palace.
Although the palace control system was malfunctioning, Gu Jin had grown up in the palace. She easily found a secret passage and led the group, arriving before Gu Ting even faster than the rebel army that had entered first.
Seeing Gu Ting sitting on the throne eating grapes, Gu Jin had the urge to blow his head off.
“Oh! You guys are here?” Looking up at the four people, Gu Ting’s expression was hesitant. “You… there are only this many of you? Then what did you come here for? To keep me company on the road to the afterlife?”
“No, we came to watch the live-action version of ‘How the Emperor Dies’ and ‘Killing Gu Ting,’ to get the first-hand scoop on the dynasty’s turnover.” Walking up the high platform in a few strides, Gu Jin sat on the armrest of Gu Ting’s chair. She grabbed a grape from the side, then remembered something and pulled a chair next to Xiao Ze with a wave of her hand. “He Yu, sit down first. You must be tired from standing so long.”
“No, this is not in line with the rules. Gu Jin, do not mess around.” Although she was disillusioned with the current Emperor, He Yu still felt that the luxurious chair Gu Jin had pulled up next to the Emperor was a bit excessive.
Gu Ting stopped pinching his grapes, his fingers moving to reposition the chairs. He pulled Xiao Ze’s closer to his side and placed the chair Gu Jin had pulled up slightly below him. “Like this, then.”
Seeing the Emperor give the order, He Yu hesitated, but Gu Jin stood up from Gu Ting’s chair, took He Yu, and placed her in the seat. She instructed Gu Ting, “Protect these two.”
The words had just fallen when the Four Families’ Allied Army arrived. The empty, massive main hall was densely packed with the enemy. On Gu Jin’s side, there were three standing, three sitting, and two Omegas.
“So you are here. No wonder you made us wait so long! Gu Jin, Gu Ting, I advise you to surrender as soon as possible and stop making futile struggles.”
“Xiao Yuqi” stepped forward, with the heads of the four major families and “Xiao Xiaoyu” standing behind them.
Yawning again, Gu Jin listened to these unoriginal lines, too lazy to even roll her eyes. Gu Ting stretched his limbs. “I ate too much; I am a bit stuffed.”
Gu Jin glanced at Gu Ting. “Serves you right, get fat then.”
The two of them went back and forth, bickering like kindergarteners despite the enemy army being present and the odds being against them. It was extremely childish.
“Enough!” Unable to bear it anymore after being ignored countless times, the enemy force finally snapped. “Xiao Yuqi” shouted, “Tie them up for me! Let’s see if you can still laugh then!”
As soon as the words fell, the people around started to attack. Gu Jin and Gu Ting exchanged a look. “Delay plan failed. Gu Jin, it is up to you.”
The three in front engaged “Xiao Yuqi” and the others. Since their numbers were truly too low, the others did not take them seriously, although there were quite a few people attacking Gu Jin; six experts surrounding her alone, which seemed a bit unfair.
Gu Jin handled the situation from side to side, retreating two steps in the air to distance herself from the people beside her, as well as He Yi and Gu Ling, finally getting a chance to catch her breath.
Looking at the shameless six-on-one fight, just as Gu Jin was about to say something, she heard an unfamiliar, sharp cry. Her face stiffened as she looked at the unidentified object rapidly approaching from outside. “At a time like this, who is running over to join the fun?”
Clearly, Gu Jin was not the only one who heard the sound. Everyone’s eyes were fixed on the unexpected visitor. Were they friend or foe?
Soon, the mystery was solved. With her sharp eyesight, Gu Jin saw the full picture of the black shadow in the distance.
A long, thick body, scales shimmering with a silver glow, and two horns on its majestic head! Was this not the Dragon form of Qin Zhao, the envoy of the Ruins Dragon Empire?
Recalling what Qin Zhao had told her at the banquet, Gu Jin felt worried. Qin Zhao liked her sister-in-law, Xiao Ze, and had not received a response for such a long time; surely, he was not coming to snatch people away during this chaotic moment, was he?
Gu Jin panicked slightly.
