My Omega Rival in Love [Interstellar] - Chapter 36
Skipping that topic, Gu Jin looked at He Yu, who was standing right beside her. Honestly, Gu Jin felt that He Yu was simply too low-profile. Otherwise, whether as the “School Beauty” of Clini or the face of the Veiser Empire, the title would certainly belong to He Yu; there would be no room for the likes of Tao Ran or Ji Zhi.
After activating the air circulation in the room, the scent of pheromones quickly dissipated, leaving the room fresh once more. He Yu glanced at Gu Jin, who was still leaning lazily against her, and pushed Gu Jin’s head away. “Get up.”
“He Yu, once this matter is over, I will definitely give you a satisfactory explanation in a formal manner. But for now, please help me keep this a secret. Do not tell anyone that my injuries have healed. The culprit is about to be brought to justice, and we must not alert the enemy.” Knowing she had acted impulsively today, Gu Jin had to stabilize He Yu first, though she trusted that He Yu was not one to gossip.
As expected, He Yu hesitated for a moment before nodding. “Since you already know who the culprit is, why not arrest them right now?”
“Because the culprit is too cunning and has a long list of crimes. If we do not have sufficient evidence, it would be easy for them to escape conviction. I cannot tell you more. Remember, do not even tell your grandfather, alright?”
After giving her warning once more, Gu Jin stood up, straightened her clothes, and watched He Yu sit thoughtfully by the bed. She leaned down and placed He Yu’s shoes at her feet. “I am leaving. If anything happens these next few days, you can go directly to Gu Ting. Also, He Yu, I have one last question for you.”
Squatting by the bedside, Gu Jin rested her hand on He Yu’s knee. “What exactly is the situation between your grandfather and the Wen family?”
“The Wen family?” Returning from her thoughts, He Yu looked at Gu Jin. “What do you mean by that?”
Gu Jin looked at He Yu with conflict in her eyes. She was truly caught in the middle. Judging by Gu Ting’s attitude, it was clear that if the Wen and He families were truly problematic, he would not hesitate to “sever his own arm” to solve it. Gu Jin did not want to see that outcome.
“If the He family wants to survive, they should stop now. The Imperial Gu family has endured for thousands of years; it does not rely solely on the two people you see on the surface. He Yu, from my position, I should not be telling you this, but…” Gu Jin stopped herself. “Forget it. Just treat it as if I am talking nonsense.”
Something crossed her mind, and Gu Jin said no more. She stood up to leave, but after two steps, He Yu called out to her. “Gu Jin, what exactly do you mean by that?”
“My grandfather is devoted to the Veiser Empire and has no disloyalty. What did you mean by those words?” Detecting the underlying message, He Yu was shocked and pressed Gu Jin for an answer.
Gu Jin stopped, feeling a sense of powerlessness. “If your grandfather were truly as you say, we would not be in this situation today. He Yu, if you want to know what I mean, then do not tell your grandfather about today. Go and investigate the things your grandfather has done yourself, and then you will understand everything.”
With those final words, Gu Jin disappeared from the room. He Yu stood there with her eyes downcast. What was going on? What did Gu Jin’s words imply? Could her grandfather really have done something wrong?
Furthermore, judging by Gu Jin’s tone, was the Emperor about to move against the He family?
By the time He Yu left the room, she had washed up and changed her clothes, her mind set on a plan. Since Gu Jin said she would understand after looking into her grandfather’s actions, she would do exactly that. Deep down, He Yu still refused to believe Elder He harbored any disloyalty.
“Sis, I heard you went to see that Carlo fellow? Why did you meet him? He does not look like a good person at all.” He Yi had just returned and looked He Yu up and down with concern as she sat at the table eating.
“Just eat. Where did you go running off to this time?” He Yu did not answer his question, feeling a headache coming on as she looked at her dense younger brother.
As soon as He Yi sat down, a nutritional meal appeared on the table before him. As the siblings ate, Elder He walked in. The He residence did not use hovering light-disks; one had to walk everywhere on foot. Elder He called this “exercise.”
“Grandfather.” He Yu had just finished her meal. She placed her utensils down—which were then automatically collected for cleaning—and stood up to face the Elder.
Elder He nodded, leaning on his cane. “You two should pack your things. I am sending you back tomorrow. He Yu will return to Planet Sasha, and He Yi will return to the military.”
He Yu and He Yi exchanged a confused look. “Grandfather, why?”
“You have both rested long enough. Besides, it is currently inconvenient for He Yu to stay on the Capital Star; it is harder to be discovered on Planet Sasha. Go now. I have already booked your starship for tomorrow.” Elder He’s words sounded reasonable enough. The simple-minded He Yi thought nothing of it, feeling he was already growing moldy after staying at home for two days.
However, He Yu, having heard Gu Jin’s warnings, felt differently. No matter how she looked at it, Elder He seemed to be “dispersing the relatives” before making a run for it.
“Grandfather, I still have some business to attend to on the Capital Star. There is no need to rush back to Planet Sasha. The approval for the new mecha has not come through yet, so I would have nothing to do even if I went back.”
He Yu certainly would not leave at a time like this. Furthermore, Gu Jin’s pheromones had not arrived yet. Even if she left, what would she do when her heat cycle arrived in a month?
From any perspective, He Yu could not leave the Capital Star right now.
Elder He paused upon hearing her words. “Then make it the day after tomorrow. Xiao Yu, handle your business as quickly as possible. He Yi, help your sister out and stop running around all day.”
After speaking, Elder He went upstairs. He Yu glanced at He Yi and left as well, leaving He Yi to enjoy his meal alone.
Gu Jin had just returned to the palace when she saw Gu Ting standing on the circular dome of the building, shading his eyes with his hand. Gu Jin waved at him. “What are you doing? You will not die even if you jump from there.”
Gu Ting had seen her long ago, but he simply did not want to speak to her. Hearing her annoying voice, he jumped directly from the thirty-meter-high dome and landed steadily in front of her. “My dear sister, let us negotiate. Why don’t you return to Planet Rota?”
“No,” Gu Jin rejected him immediately, pushing past him. “The truth behind the incident at Planet Rota has not been uncovered yet. I have no face to return.”
“Then do a better job of playing dead and stop wandering around,” Gu Ting said, placing a hand on her shoulder. “The results are about to come out.”
Gu Jin looked at him in surprise, not expecting results so soon. Then, a thought occurred to her. “Let me remind you first, He Yu and I are going to get married. She is already willing to marry me, so do not target the He family anymore.”
“And what if the He family is truly involved in what happened at Planet Rota?” Gu Ting withdrew his hand and crossed his arms, waiting for her reaction.
“Stop joking.” Gu Jin looked at him with hesitation and doubt in her eyes.
“I am just kidding with you,” Gu Ting said with a shrug and a smile after seeing her half-believe him. “I am just giving you some psychological preparation.”
“Get lost!” Gu Jin punched his shoulder and let out a long breath. “Stop joking. I finally had a good mood, and your scare ruined it all.”
“Oh? You are that happy because He Yu is willing to marry you? How pathetic. Have you even asked Elder He?” Gu Ting hid the darkness in his eyes and walked inside with Gu Jin, laughing and joking.
The mention of Elder He gave Gu Jin a headache. Ever since he served as her tutor, she had disliked the old man. He was rigid, shrewd, stubborn, and long-winded. Even now that she was grown, she disliked him as much as ever.
Seeing her distressed expression, Gu Ting patted her shoulder. “Shall I help you think of a way?”
“Brother, do not say it like that.” Gu Jin brushed his hand away with a look of disgust. “When you say that, I feel like we are interstellar pirates planning how to kidnap a lady from a good family.”
Gu Ting: “…” Clearly it is your own mind that is twisted! How dare you look down on me!
Early the next morning, Gu Jin stretched and looked at the bright sky outside. She massaged her neck and sat on the balcony, having just finished breakfast and a cup of tea.
“Gu Jin, come to my office.”
Gu Ting’s voice came through the optical computer. Gu Jin tilted her head back; the rising morning light gilded her features, and the layers of colorful clouds were exceptionally beautiful. Gu Jin smiled. “Fine weather.”
When Gu Jin arrived at the office, she found Gu Ting sitting in his chair with his legs up. Seeing her, he waved with a smile. “Good news. The second step of our plan is underway. It is a success, and the results are better than expected.”
It was indeed good news, and Gu Jin’s already pleasant mood brightened further. “Look who came up with the idea. So, is it time to close the net?”
“Almost. I called you here to have you prepare. It is time for you to make an appearance. Their ‘Grand Marshal of the Border’ has been in ’emergency treatment’ for so long; it is time for her to come back to life.”
With a wave of his hand, Gu Ting closed the numerous screens surrounding him and stood up. “The Xiao family could not hold back any longer. They moved against the He family and pointed the finger at them. I must say, the Xiao family does things ruthlessly. If I had not already known the truth, I might have actually believed them.”
“Seriously?” Gu Jin walked to his side and reopened the screens he had just closed. She scanned the data, which detailed exactly how the He family had plotted against Gu Jin and how they prepared the assassination. It also showed how the Xiao family had meticulously traced the He family’s tracks. The report involved over a hundred people, and the plan was so detailed that Gu Jin suspected the Xiao family had actually been planning to assassinate her themselves and were simply repurposing the plan.
“Impressive, truly impressive.” Gu Jin marveled as she closed the screens. Honestly, even if she were to plot her own assassination, she might not have made such a meticulous arrangement.
“Alright, the second step is ready. When does the third step begin?” Gu Jin looked at Gu Ting. In the plan, it was inevitable that the Xiao family would bite the He family. Afterward, Gu Ting would vindicate the He family. Then, because the Xiao family framed the He family and was suspected of the assassination attempt, he would apply for a search warrant for the Xiao family to uncover the truth about Planet Rota and more.
The second step had gone perfectly. Gu Jin felt they could proceed directly to the third step. Although the Xiao family’s preparations were thorough, as long as she—the victim—was present, everything else was irrelevant.
Gu Jin was feeling optimistic, but she failed to notice the smile vanishing from Gu Ting’s face. “Gu Jin, you are my sister, but everything must come after the Gu family. Trust me, I will leave He Yu to you. But for now, take a good sleep.”
Gu Jin felt her strength draining away. She looked at Gu Ting in disbelief. “Gu Ting! What are you doing!”
Before she could receive an answer, her consciousness faded. The last thing she saw was Gu Ting’s cold face, filled with a mix of heartache and resolve, before she fell into total darkness.
Gu Ting caught the fainting Gu Jin and gently brushed back her stray hairs, letting out a sigh. “Do not blame me. I have already made concessions for you. Unfortunately, some people do not cherish your kindness.”
The He Residence.
Early in the morning, He Yu and He Yi had just finished breakfast and were doing their morning exercises in the courtyard when a squad of highly disciplined soldiers burst into their home, surrounding the entire residence. The two stood in a corner, completely bewildered.
“Prime Minister He, please come with us. Everyone else is under lockdown; no one is permitted to step a single foot outside the residence. Cut off the residence’s control system.”
A fully armed officer stepped out from the center of the troops. His rugged face was dead serious as he looked at Elder He, who had walked out with his cane. He raised a hand to give orders to the soldiers behind him.
Elder He seemed to have expected this. He looked at He Yu and He Yi and sighed. “Stay at home and do not move recklessly.”
The soldiers still showed a basic level of respect for Elder He. They did not forcibly haul him away but allowed him to board the transport vehicle on his own. They did not use handcuffs or shackles; they only confiscated his cane. This had no effect on Elder He, who did not actually rely on it to walk.
Looking at the formation, which was even more serious than the last time, and the courtyard full of armed soldiers, He Yu and He Yi exchanged a look. Beneath their outward calm, they were utterly lost.
