My Husband is Suspicious - Episode 15
Just then, Dreid moved slightly away from the bed. Eleanor, suddenly feeling the need to track him, hurriedly spoke.
“Are you leaving now?”
Dreid nodded.
“I just wanted to see you wake up before I left.”
Eleanor said anxiously,
“Wait a moment.”
Then she immediately got out of bed. There must be a tracking device somewhere in her office. She had to attach a tracker because she didn’t know exactly where he was going. That would make it easier to catch up with him and investigate.
“Wait here for a second. I have something to give you.”
Dreid, who was about to leave, looked back at Eleanor. He blinked, seemingly intrigued by her haste.
“Don’t go anywhere.”
Eleanor urged him before leaving the bedroom, worried that Dreid might leave first.
“Take your time.”
Dreid calmly sat down in a chair, as if to reassure Eleanor. As soon as she saw him sit, Eleanor dashed out the door.
The office was still messy. Evidence of last night’s aftermath was visible, with things scattered here and there. Eleanor searched between the books where she remembered the tracking devices being stored.
These were tracking devices she had bought in bulk when she had a lot of requests. Finally, she felt something at her fingertips. Eleanor smiled.
It looked like a small piece of paper the size of a thumbnail, but the magic on the tracker would activate due to the target’s subtle body temperature. Eleanor looked at the tracker for a moment and then hurriedly searched through the drawers.
Soon, Eleanor’s hand touched a small box. Opening the box revealed a subtly glowing pin clip. It was meant to be worn between shirt buttons for decoration, mainly used by men. The outer part shone with a silver light, and although there were some signs of age, it was clean.
Eleanor attached the tracking device to the pin clip. Then, the tracking device began to disguise itself to look exactly like the pin clip. It was perfect.
Eleanor touched the part where she had attached the tracking device, just in case. Fortunately, it seemed to be well-attached, with no rough parts. She could feel the smooth metal texture of the original pin clip.
Eleanor fiddled with the pin clip for a moment.
“…”
It was her father’s pin clip that her mother had kept. She was going to give it to Dreid for their second wedding anniversary. She felt strange. She never imagined that the gift she had saved for that time would be used like this.
Eleanor fiddled with the pin clip for a moment before leaving the room. It was important to give it to Dreid now. She didn’t know what would happen to their second wedding anniversary in this situation, and this was the only thing she could give him naturally without arousing his suspicion.
Eleanor almost ran to the bedroom. As soon as she arrived, she burst through the door. Dreid, who had been sitting leisurely in the chair, looked up.
He stood up as soon as Eleanor arrived, and smiled when their eyes met. Then his expression briefly hardened.
“Did you run?”
“…I thought you might be in a hurry.”
As Eleanor spoke, catching her breath, Dreid approached her. He neatly tucked Eleanor’s disheveled peach-colored hair behind her ear. The warmth on his fingertips was quite gentle.
Her breathing gradually subsided, but Eleanor was conscious of Dreid’s gaze and his hand still on her hair.
“What did you run to give me?”
When she looked up, Dreid had a very expectant look on his face.
Eleanor calmly composed herself and handed him the pin clip.
“Wear this when you go.”
Dreid smiled when he saw the pin clip. Fortunately, he seemed to like it. He immediately and skillfully fastened the pin clip between the buttons near his chest.
“How is it?”
“…It suits you better than I thought.”
Eleanor said unconsciously. The neat pin clip on his white shirt didn’t stand out too much and gave a sophisticated feel.
“Thank you.”
Dreid kissed Eleanor lightly on the cheek and smiled. He seemed happy to have received an unexpected gift.
“I’ll think of you when I see this. Thanks to you, time will pass quickly.”
Eleanor felt a slight pang of guilt in her heart. But she smiled at him as if nothing was wrong. That smile was the best she could do in the current situation.
Dreid seemed to be in quite a hurry and immediately walked to the door. Then he turned around.
“Make sure you eat breakfast before you go.”
Eleanor slowly nodded. Dreid smiled and left the room.
Instantly, the room became quiet. Perhaps because she had been running around since morning, she felt all her strength draining away.
Eleanor slumped into a chair.
‘Did I do the right thing?’
I must have.
But strangely, she felt bad. Seeing Dreid genuinely happy made her feel uneasy. She felt like she had deceived him, like she had done something she shouldn’t have.
But Eleanor changed her mind.
‘This is all Dreid’s fault anyway.’
If he had told her all the facts from the beginning, they wouldn’t be deceiving each other like this. If that were the case, Eleanor would have given him the pin clip with a truly happy heart.
* * *
The table was already set with a full meal. There was a note on it that seemed to be written by Dreid.
[I made only what you like. I hope you eat it all this time. See you in three days. — Your Dreid]
Eleanor stared at the note and then scanned the delicious-looking food. Apple salad, apple preserves, and a sandwich with apple sauce.
All the dishes contained apples, which Eleanor loved. Moreover, Dreid seemed to have put a lot of effort into it, as the food decorations were detailed and elaborate. It was almost too beautiful to eat.
The previous meals had also been excellent, but not to this extent. This time, it seemed like he had really made up his mind.
“He made it so I can’t throw it away.”
Indeed, these dishes were like that. She would feel guilty throwing them away. Reluctantly, Eleanor sat down in a chair.
Eleanor took a bite of the apple salad nearby. As soon as she ate it, a refreshing aroma spread and she felt a crunchy texture.
“…It seems even more delicious than before.”
Whether he had added a secret sauce or not, the sauce was more refreshing and delicious than before. As Eleanor chewed the food, her guilt towards Dreid seemed to grow. She felt bad, as if she had really done something she shouldn’t have.
‘Why doesn’t he just tell me? I wouldn’t feel like this if he just told me everything.’
Eleanor wondered what the reason could be.
“Did I do something terribly wrong to him, so he can’t tell me until now?”
Is that why he’s being so nice to me, making such delicious food?
But Dreid had made delicious food like this before.
“Or is it a money problem? Did he lose money gambling and is reluctant to tell me?”
But living with Dreid, he had never shown any interest in gambling. He even disliked simple games.
And even if that were the case, Dreid had a lot of money, so he could somehow handle it. His assets, as seen in the documents last time, were enormous.
‘Then could it be a woman?’
Thinking about a woman problem, she suddenly lost her appetite. Eleanor put down her fork.
‘Could it be…?’
But thinking about Dreid, whom she had observed so far, such a thing would be…
She felt inexplicably uneasy.
Suddenly, she remembered an incident at the request agency in the past.
Mrs. Dellakid had come to the agency to gather evidence of her husband’s affair.
‘Sigh, he’s so nice at home that I never thought he would do such a thing behind my back. Who would have known he would seduce a younger woman and go around?’
Mrs. Dellakid had talked for a long time at the agency, as if she couldn’t believe that her kind and caring husband would have an affair.
‘Eleanor, you should be careful too. No matter how kind and caring your husband is, you never know what’s inside a person.’
At the time, Eleanor had just smiled while listening to those words. She couldn’t imagine Dreid doing such a thing, and she didn’t think he was the type to do it.
But now she was very suspicious. Eleanor suddenly felt goosebumps and rubbed her arms.
“So, the reason he hasn’t said anything until now is because of a woman problem?”
Even as she spoke to herself, her voice was strained. When she thought about it, there were several possibilities. He could be pretending to be nice at home to prevent her from suspecting anything about his woman problems, and then doing something foolish outside. Like Mrs. Dellakid’s husband back then.
‘Then why did he bother interfering with my work?’
If Dreid hadn’t interfered with her work, Eleanor wouldn’t have suspected him in the first place.
‘If it was a woman problem from the start, shouldn’t he have acted without me knowing?’
Anyone who wasn’t an idiot would do that. Based on what she had felt while living with Dreid, he wasn’t that stupid. Rather, he was quick-witted.
He was even good at understanding others, as if he could read Eleanor’s mind.
There were several flaws in simply saying it was a woman problem.
‘No, it can’t be a woman problem.’
Eleanor concluded that on her own and felt somewhat relieved. There were many parts that didn’t make sense if it was a woman problem.
‘Then why did he interfere with my work?’
She was back to square one. Eleanor sighed deeply. No matter how much she thought about it, there was no answer. Her head was complicated and her heart was heavy. It was even more so because nothing was being resolved.
Eleanor took another bite of the apple sandwich. Then, realizing that there wasn’t much left, she stared at it for a while before putting it all in her mouth.
The apple sandwich was so generous that she only tasted the other dishes and covered them well. She planned to eat them again when she got off work in the evening.
Eleanor thought that she should stop throwing away food now. It was a waste, and she felt sorry that Dreid was putting in so much effort.
Thinking that it probably wasn’t a woman problem, Eleanor was able to relax a little.
After roughly cleaning up the kitchen and looking around, the mansion was still quiet. It felt even more empty without Dreid, who was always there with her in the morning.
Eleanor looked at the seat where Dreid always sat. He always sat across from Eleanor. Eleanor stared at the empty seat for a long time. Then, looking at this empty house, she suddenly had a thought that she had never had before.
