My Husband is Suspicious - Episode 13
Eleanor felt her hands getting sweaty and fidgeted with them.
“No. It’s not that…”
Just then, Dreid said,
“Make sure to tell me next time. I’ll make it even tastier.”
Dreid smiled as if it were nothing. For a moment, Eleanor wondered if she had misheard him.
As if the food was already finished, he skillfully placed the plate in front of Eleanor. Eleanor glanced at the plate and then looked at him. Dreid smiled when he met Eleanor’s eyes and kissed her on the cheek.
“Make sure to eat it all this time.”
Eleanor smiled awkwardly and nodded. She felt a slight guilt for lying to him, and a resulting unpleasant feeling.
Suddenly, Eleanor looked at the vase in the center of the table. The yellow tulips were still fresh.
Wait, but why am I feeling so guilty?
Didn’t Dreid make me suspicious in the first place?
If he had given me complete trust, none of this would have happened.
Evidence to suspect Dreid had already surfaced. His attitude was still affectionate, but Dreid had been subtly different lately, even yesterday. Come to think of it, it had been like that since the day before yesterday.
Strangely, he seemed impatient and felt like he was forcing Eleanor’s love.
Come to think of it, like last night…
Then Dreid probably knows why Eleanor is acting this way. Dreid was quicker to notice than anyone else.
Eleanor looked at Dreid, who was sitting across from her. Then she looked at the back of his hand, but there were no red spots.
“Dreid, are you hiding anything from me?”
Now that things have come to this, Eleanor felt like she had no reason to hide anything either. It was a slightly confident attitude that came from already knowing the suspicious circumstances surrounding him.
“Hiding something?”
Dreid slowly raised his head and looked at Eleanor. He seemed to think for a moment, then smiled.
“Why do you ask?”
Eleanor felt a slight disappointment at his questioning attitude. At least she wanted him to tell her the truth now, but he put on an innocent expression as if he didn’t know anything about the situation.
As soon as she saw that expression, she realized that he wouldn’t answer no matter how much she asked. It was the same yesterday. Even when given the opportunity to tell the truth, Dreid vaguely avoided it.
Eleanor sighed softly.
In the end, she had no choice but to find out by persistently searching. Before, she felt a little sorry for digging into Dreid, but not anymore.
Eleanor unknowingly gripped her fork tightly. Maybe this was inevitable. Something she had to do alone.
Eleanor steeled her heart coldly. And slowly raised her head.
Dreid had been watching Eleanor, and as soon as she raised her head, he met her eyes. Eleanor smiled at him and said.
“…I guess someone was interfering with my work yesterday, so I was annoyed. I’m suspicious of everything these days. By the way, are you looking into the person who’s interfering with my work?”
Dreid nodded, looking indifferently at the food on his plate.
“But it might take some time.”
“Why?”
At Eleanor’s words, Dreid raised his head.
Dreid looked at Eleanor for a moment. He seemed to be thinking about something, but his face was serious, unlike before. It was as if he was saying with his eyes that he wanted her to understand how things had turned out.
For a moment, Eleanor wondered if she had forgotten something and lowered her gaze.
‘Why that expression? Why?’
Rather, Dreid should be telling me something. Why does he look like he wants that from me?
Eleanor bit her lip.
“Eleanor.”
Dreid called, but Eleanor just looked down at the table.
“Please wait a little longer.”
At the soft voice, she instinctively raised her head slightly. He smiled as if he knew Eleanor would look up.
So, he wants me to understand that he’s doing this? Or does he want time to think about telling me everything?
No matter what, Eleanor couldn’t guess what Dreid was thinking.
Eleanor felt helpless and said calmly.
“…I hope the culprit is caught soon.”
“I hope so too.”
And Dreid continued slowly.
“It’s hard for me to see you struggling too.”
Eleanor paused for a moment. It was absurd. Then why is he doing this in the first place?
Eleanor looked straight at him. Dreid felt Eleanor’s gaze and calmly stared back at her.
‘Is he telling me to say something?’
Rather, it seemed like this whole situation depended on Eleanor.
Eleanor looked away from him. What should she say? Eleanor’s mind was complicated because Dreid was acting like that. Now that things have come to this, should she be proactive?
That was the only way. Even if she secretly investigated now, there was no guarantee that Dreid would tell her the truth nicely.
‘It’ll only get more frustrating.’
Eleanor raised her head and looked at Dreid. He was ready to listen to whatever Eleanor said. His deep blue eyes were filled with sincerity.
Eleanor slowly opened her mouth.
“Dreid.”
At Eleanor’s words, Dreid was even more focused than before. His eyes sparkled with a hint of curiosity. Seeing Dreid look at her like that, Eleanor didn’t hesitate any longer.
“Since it happened to me anyway, I’ll investigate it too.”
At the same time, Dreid’s eyes turned cold.
“Eleanor.”
Dreid called in a low voice, but Eleanor continued.
“If you and I investigate together, we can find the culprit sooner. As I said yesterday, that person is interfering with my work so cleverly that it’s too much for one person to find. Anyway, I’ve dug into people’s pasts a lot, so it won’t be difficult.”
“……”
His face was stiff. Unlike before, he didn’t seem relaxed. With that momentum, Eleanor continued softly.
“And I’ve already been looking into it. It’s taking a long time because I need solid evidence to find the culprit.”
Then Eleanor looked into Dreid’s eyes and said.
“…Or it would be better if the culprit confessed on their own.”
The last words were wishful thinking. Eleanor hoped that Dreid would confess everything before she had to dig up all the truth with difficulty.
‘I wish Dreid would explain everything before I misunderstand and suspect him on my own.’
So that everyone doesn’t get hurt.
Eleanor thought for a moment and then looked at Dreid’s face. His expression was unchanged. He was just calmly looking at Eleanor’s face.
It was a face that didn’t feel any emotion. It wasn’t that she wanted him to be shaken, but it felt strange because he had no expression.
Eleanor lowered her head. She felt embarrassed and awkward because there was no reaction.
‘Still, say something.’
Eleanor stabbed the innocent meat with a knife for no reason. Red blood oozed out with the juice.
“Eleanor.”
Eleanor was surprised by his sudden words and looked at him. His expression was unchanged, but somehow the atmosphere seemed more subdued.
Dreid said slowly.
“Eat the food before it gets cold.”
The words that came out of Dreid’s mouth were too ordinary. As if the things he had said earlier were nothing. Eleanor felt a slight disappointment and looked at Dreid.
His smile, with the corners of his lips slightly raised, was somehow bright. It was the smile she saw then. The smile she fell in love with at first sight when she first met him.
Eleanor was speechless for a moment.
‘Why does he have to smile like that at a time like this? I can’t even think of anything to say.’
Eleanor turned her gaze away from him and only looked at the meat on the plate. The meat was already cold, so she wondered if it would taste good. No matter how much she looked at it, she didn’t feel like eating.
“……”
“Aren’t you hungry?”
“…I don’t feel like it today.”
“You haven’t eaten anything since this morning.”
“Not really today.”
Suddenly, the surroundings became quiet. In that fleeting moment, Eleanor prayed that her stomach would be quiet.
Fortunately, her stomach didn’t make a very loud noise. That was a relief. It would have been very embarrassing if her stomach had growled now.
“Then I’ll go up first.”
Eleanor got up from her seat and left the table as if nothing had happened.
“Eleanor.”
When Eleanor turned her head, Dreid asked.
“Do you not like this food either?”
Eleanor looked at the table and shook her head. She just didn’t feel like eating that food. She didn’t dislike it, but she didn’t want to eat it in this situation.
“It’s not that I don’t like it.”
She just didn’t feel like eating it.
Dreid was relieved to hear that she didn’t dislike it, and soon softened his face.
“Okay, then go up and rest.”
Dreid slowly got up and picked up the plate, as if he didn’t want to eat any more food either. Eleanor paused for a moment, but then turned around.
In the past, she would have said no and helped him. But now… She felt like there was a wall between them. She felt like she couldn’t communicate with Dreid even if she talked to him.
She was frustrated, but she couldn’t easily break it down now. Above all, Eleanor didn’t know everything about Dreid.
‘Knowledge is power.’
Rather, Dreid seemed to be more relaxed because he knew a lot about Eleanor. Come to think of it, he was now in a higher position than Eleanor.
There must be a reason why he doesn’t talk about what Eleanor is curious about. She was bothered by the fact that she didn’t know what that reason was.
Eleanor frowned. She was frustrated because she couldn’t know everything in the current situation. But she stopped thinking because she couldn’t find an answer no matter how much she thought about it, and walked to the stairs. Then she felt that the surroundings were too quiet.
Her footsteps going up alone also felt heavy. Eleanor stopped for a moment and suddenly turned around.
Dreid was standing in front of the sink with his head bowed for a moment. As if he had some serious worries, his broad shoulders seemed slightly drooped.
He stayed like that for a while and then turned around. There was no expression on his face. His back looked like he had a lot of worries, but his face was fine, so it felt strange.
