My Hated Roommate Is Actually My Boyfriend?! - Chapter 4
After the butler finished handling the discharge procedures and they got into the car, the old butler hesitated before speaking: “Young Master, should we inform your father and mother about your hospitalization?”
Liu Duanhe’s expression was indifferent as he said, “No need to tell them.”
With that, he leaned back against the seat, his beautifully arched phoenix eyes closing directly, his thick brows as dark as distant mountains furrowing slightly. Seeing this, the old butler could only swallow the words he wanted to say.
On the other end, Feng Xingyun had also just left the hospital and only then noticed that his clothes were almost completely soaked. He figured most of it must have come from the water he’d used to rinse Liu Duanhe’s wounds.
Fortunately, the temperature was high enough that by the time he noticed, his clothes were already half-dry. A little longer and they’d be about dry.
He tugged at his clothes, took out his phone from his pocket and looked at it. Since he’d already requested leave for the afternoon classes anyway, Feng Xingyun simply went straight home and placed an order for a cool silver-gray supercar he’d had his eye on for a long time.
By the time they arrived at their destination, the moment the car stopped, Liu Duanhe opened his eyes. There was no trace of sleepiness in them, clearly, he simply hadn’t wanted to talk earlier.
The bodyguard set down the wheelchair, but Liu Duanhe waved his hand. “Go in first. I can still walk on my own for now.”
After resting in the car for a while, he felt he could hold on a bit longer. Besides, the butler had brought a full set of clothes, shoes, and socks. He could walk by himself. Earlier, Feng Xingyun hadn’t even given him the chance to put on his shoes and socks. Being pushed around in a wheelchair out in public, if word got out, people might think he was crippled.
Liu Duanhe had stayed in the hospital for a full half month. Even though he experienced occasional dizziness and nausea throughout the day, it didn’t delay his coursework or the company affairs the old master had assigned him.
He treated himself as if he were made of iron, but the old butler who had watched him grow up was heartbroken. He’d been injured so severely, hadn’t even told his family, and stayed alone in the hospital while juggling his studies and work. The butler went out of his way to bring all kinds of nourishing soups every day, changing up the recipes.
Until Liu Duanhe developed a conditioned reflex of nausea at the mere smell of meat.
The most annoying thing was Chen Xingdong. He’d recently gone out street racing and narrowly escaped with his life, only breaking his leg. He was also staying in the VIP ward of this hospital.
Originally, they weren’t on the same floor, so it would’ve been hard to run into each other, especially since Liu Duanhe had deliberately kept his hospitalization under wraps.
But as luck would have it, while Liu Duanhe was soaking up the sun in the garden, Chen Xingdong somehow slipped in from who-knows-where and ran straight into him.
For the next half month, he was pestered by Chen Xingdong. So, before his concussion had fully healed, Liu Duanhe chose to leave the hospital without hesitation, despite the hospital’s report recommending that he could be discharged to rest and take medication at home, but that continued hospitalization for observation would be preferable.
After canceling his leave on the app, Liu Duanhe went straight back to school from the hospital. He had a class that afternoon, so after checking the classroom location, he headed there.
He arrived neither too early nor too late, fifteen minutes before class started. It was a large lecture course, and the tiered classroom was already half full.
The first person Liu Duanhe saw was Feng Xingyun, the one he knew best. His sharp, cold-featured face was turned toward the door as he sat in the front row, leaning back against his seat in boredom, with no one on either side of him.
He walked straight toward him.
In fact, from the moment he appeared at the entrance of the tiered classroom, the air seemed to still. Faint, elusive gazes followed his every step.
As he walked, people kept greeting him, as if everyone could exchange a word or two with him.
Liu Duanhe wore a gentle, faint smile, showing not the slightest impatience. His snow-white skin appeared ethereal and hazy under the sunlight streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows, like a shadow cast by an ancient deity, so beautiful that the camera shutters clicking nearby lost focus.
His sharp gaze turned toward the raised phone, then withdrew as the person taking the photo laughed sheepishly.
All that remained was the photographer’s heart pounding chaotically in his burning chest.
That look just now, helpless, yet sharp, was so sexy!
He quickly uploaded the photo and shared it to the dedicated thread for the school’s most handsome man on the forum.
It wasn’t until Liu Duanhe sat down next to Feng Xingyun that the people greeting him finally stopped. After all, getting up and chasing after him to say hello would be too conspicuous, these were college students, and their skin wasn’t that thick yet.
And at banquets, Liu Duanhe was usually surrounded on all sides, with people sticking to him like plasters.
Never underestimate how much people’s desire for power can strip away their sense of shame. There were plenty who would sell their bodies, let alone just be a little thick-skinned.
Feng Xingyun’s back stiffened instantly. He never expected Liu Duanhe to sit right next to him, so close.
He glanced at the distance between them out of the corner of his eye. Well, it wasn’t exactly right next to him, there was at least ten centimeters between them, but before, Liu Duanhe would always leave at least one empty seat around him!
For the ten minutes before class, Feng Xingyun’s mind was filled with thoughts of the shower he’d taken after playing ball this morning. He changed his clothes every day. Had he sweated this afternoon? He should still smell of body wash, right?
Even if Feng Xingyun felt it still wasn’t clean enough, it was Liu Duanhe who had chosen to sit there himself, so Liu Duanhe probably wouldn’t embarrass him in front of everyone.
Only after the class bell finished ringing did Feng Xingyun barely manage to pull back some of his mental focus to listen to the lecture. He finally reached a conclusion: someone as socially adept as Liu Duanhe wouldn’t make anyone lose face in public even if he minded.
He spent those two classes in a state of tense agitation, letting everything go in one ear and out the other, not remembering a single word the teachers said.
Occupying the other half of his mind for the latter part of the class was the cold, grassy fragrance of snow-covered woods that clung to Liu Duanhe, so crisp it made you want to take a deep breath, chilling straight through to the lungs. Feng Xingyun drifted into aimless thoughts, thinking it was just like the man himself: cold-hearted and cold-lunged.
When the class-ending bell rang, Feng Xingyun stopped his hand that had been mechanically taking notes.
Right beside him was Liu Duanhe’s arm, straight and elegant like a bamboo branch. On the back of his hand, bluish-purple veins lay quietly dormant, not prominent, only making his hand look slender, fair, and almost translucent, cool and restrained. His palm was slightly curled, the angular knuckles modestly visible with a hint of pink, the bones and flesh perfectly proportioned. It was a hand beautiful enough to be a hand models.
Those hands curled slightly, then withdrew, beginning to gather the books on the desk.
Feng Xingyun swallowed hard, only then realizing he had broken out in a light sweat without knowing when, his heart pounding restlessly. He nervously glanced sideways to steal a look at Liu Duanhe’s expression.
Liu Duanhe rarely showed negative emotions to the outside world; in public, he always seemed to be in a good mood. He hadn’t noticed Feng Xingyun’s frantic inner turmoil over the entire two classes at all, his full attention devoted to the teacher at the podium.
After tidying up, he turned his head and smiled at Feng Xingyun. The sunlight from the left made his handsome face half radiant and half deep in shadow, his clear, translucent eyes slightly narrowed like a fox’s. “Let’s go, it’s time to eat.”
Feng Xingyun was like a fish hooked on a line, agreeing to whatever Liu Duanhe said. It wasn’t until they walked out of the teaching building that he snapped back to reality, Liu Duanhe had actually invited him to eat together!
Could it be that Liu Duanhe was thanking him for taking him to the hospital? Other than that reason, Feng Xingyun couldn’t think of any other explanation.
He felt utterly flattered. If it weren’t for Liu Duanhe’s pathological cleanliness and the arrogance and aloofness he had inadvertently glimpsed beneath the surface, Feng Xingyun thought he would definitely enjoy having Liu Duanhe as a friend. After all, aside from those flaws, he was genuinely considerate to his friends, like right now.
Just as they left the teaching building, someone came running over from a distance, panting, “I heard from a friend that you were back for class, so I rushed over from the dorm.”
“Since it’s lunchtime, that company you recommended I intern at last time, I really can’t thank you enough. Let me treat you to a meal outside at noon.”
The tall man had a clean-cut face, wore black half-rim glasses, and was dressed in a simple black short-sleeve shirt and cargo pants, but his hair was clearly styled with care, and he had even sprayed on cologne.
Too deliberate. Feng Xingyun saw through all his tricks at a glance. He could be certain this was another guy who either openly liked Liu Duanhe or secretly harbored feelings for him.
And Liu Duanhe, whether he knew or not, would definitely pretend not to, then after being confessed to, would refuse with feigned regret and tack on a bunch of comforting words.
It was utterly vicious, wasn’t this just fishing?!
Feng Xingyun braced himself for Liu Duanhe to agree. That was his usual way, as long as it wasn’t too much, he’d say yes to people he got along with reasonably well.
He heard Liu Duanhe’s low, slightly husky voice reply gently, “Sorry, I already have plans today.”
It was clear the man across from them was surprised, and Feng Xingyun was surprised too. He hadn’t expected that in Liu Duanhe’s eyes, he mattered more.
He chose him. Feng Xingyun found himself feeling a bit pleased. He stepped forward, standing beside Liu Duanhe, his sharp and defiant brows raised, a smile tinged with unconscious provocation and smugness on his face. “Sorry about that, classmate. We’re roommates, and we already made plans in advance.”
