My Hated Roommate Is Actually My Boyfriend?! - Chapter 2
It was just about time for the midday break, and the hallway had been quiet, until the tremendous noise sent the entire building into an uproar.
People were already charging down the corridor, following the sound, furious.
A third crash!
Bang!
The bathroom door lock came half-loose, dangling precariously, with a large hole punched through the door.
Feng Xingyun yanked the door open and rushed into the bathroom. The moment he saw what was inside, his mind went completely blank. Liu Duanhe was lying on the floor, motionless, not making a sound.
He walked over in a daze and crouched down. The showerhead was still spraying in a steady drizzle, soaking his pant legs.
Water continued to pour from the showerhead, pooling across Liu Duanhe’s fair, flawless body, like that of a saint, tracing rivulets that wound their way down.
This was the first time Feng Xingyun had ever seen Liu Duanhe without clothes. Broad shoulders, narrow waist, an inverted triangle. His chest muscles were full, pale, and smooth to the eye; his abdominal lines were exquisite; his legs were long, slender, and straight. In his usual clothes, Liu Duanhe gave off a refined, scholarly air, and even though Feng Xingyun knew he was on the swim team, he’d never had a real sense of his build.
Another thought surfaced at the same time: So little pigmentation… they’re actually pink!
Feng Xingyun couldn’t believe it. Outside of anime, there were actually people who were pink, a shade even lighter than cherry blossoms. It instantly conjured something sensual and provocative. A pure cherry-blossom pink on a man’s body carried instead a kind of ineffable, unspoken allure.
Liu Duanhe’s entire body seemed like a bed for desire, just as beautiful as his face.
Feng Xingyun silently compared their muscles. He himself trained with both cardio and strength every day, basketball and running without missing a single day, plus his natural skeletal advantages meant his muscles were bigger.
But when his gaze shifted to Liu Duanhe’s front and he saw the blood flowing steadily from beneath where he’d been lying, all those stray thoughts vanished.
Even at the peak of his rebellious fighting days, blood had never scared him.
But Liu Duanhe was different. He was clearly the kind of student who’d never given his parents a moment of worry, let alone gotten into fights, and especially not an injury to somewhere as critical as the head.
Even he himself was surprised by how panicked he felt at this moment, because he’d never liked Liu Duanhe. But Feng Xingyun quickly understood: he told himself he was this anxious because of compassion for a fellow human being. Liu Duanhe was someone he saw every day, and when something happens to someone familiar, it’s always easier to worry and feel shaken.
Feng Xingyun carefully slid one arm behind Liu Duanhe’s back and the other under his knees, lifting him horizontally. Liu Duanhe was over 185 centimeters, yet from behind, Feng Xingyun’s frame completely obscured him.
Liu Duanhe’s eyes, usually carrying a faint, gentle smile, were half-closed. His whole body was drenched, pitiful and helpless, so soft it made one’s heart ache.
Feng Xingyun didn’t know why his heart was pounding so terrifyingly fast, his back soaked with icy cold sweat in the thirty-degree heat.
He first set Liu Duanhe down on a chair. Just then, urgent knocking came at the door. Feng Xingyun had no time for others, only shouting briefly: “My roommate just had an accident.”
The person outside was startled, then called out, “Need any help, bro?”
The only thing Feng Xingyun needed right now was a car, so he replied, “No need.”
He grabbed his phone and called a friend, explaining the situation in short, urgent bursts. He told his friend to drive over immediately and wait downstairs at the dormitory.
Although Feng Xingyun had gotten his driver’s license the moment he turned eighteen, his car had just been sent in for modifications two days ago, so it happened to be unavailable.
Fortunately, their school was on the old campus, surrounded by a bustling area, and the hospital wasn’t far. The clamor of voices in the hallway made his tone especially irritable as he made the call.
Liu Duanhe heard the sound of talking nearby and forced his eyelids open, catching a glimpse of a familiar figure moving before him. His naturally fair face had turned as pale as paper from blood loss.
“Liu… your head’s bleeding a lot… come quick!”
A ringing sound still filled his ears, so he could only make out fragments.
Liu Duanhe’s brain was still mostly functioning. Between the pain and dizziness, he guessed it was at least a concussion. What rotten luck.
He wasn’t even wearing clothes, even in his daze, he remembered he’d fallen straight onto the floor. Even though he was too dizzy and nauseous to stand, Liu Duanhe found it harder to accept psychologically. He wanted to go back into the bathroom and rinse off!
The floor his shoes had stepped on, it was way too dirty!
Following his memory of where Liu Duanhe kept his clothes, Feng Xingyun hurriedly pulled underwear and clothes from Liu Duanhe’s locker. He crouched down, grabbed his ankle, lifted one of Liu Duanhe’s legs, and started to slip it into the underwear.
Liu Duanhe vaguely made out what was happening and murmured weakly, “Don’t… don’t put them on. Rinse me off first. So dirty. So dirty.”
Feng Xingyun heard his voice but couldn’t make out the words, so he stood up and leaned close to Liu Duanhe’s lips.
Liu Duanhe’s lips were pale. He repeated himself several times before Feng Xingyun could understand, and when he did, he was stunned. Even at a time like this, Liu Duanhe’s cleanliness obsession was still going strong.
His long brows furrowed tightly, but knowing how much of a clean freak Liu Duanhe was, he still draped the man’s arm over his shoulders and headed toward the bathroom.
The cold from blood loss made Liu Duanhe instinctively curl against Feng Xingyun, seeking warmth. Never once had he felt that scorching body heat could be this comforting.
Feng Xingyun quickly turned on the shower, the water was still hot. He roughly doused Liu Duanhe’s entire body with the hot water, then grabbed a towel from the basket beside them, tore open the packaging, wrapped it around him, and rubbed vigorously a couple of times to dry the moisture off his skin.
Feeling the water cascading over him, Liu Duanhe’s mood improved considerably, and he regained a bit of energy.
He mustered his strength. Though still weak, his tone was deeply sincere: “Thank you.”
Feng Xingyun snapped back from that sense of urgency, grunted in acknowledgment, and then scooped him up in his arms again. Liu Duanhe had been about to say he could walk a bit now, but the words died before they left his mouth, cut off by the other’s actions.
The phone on the table rang. Feng Xingyun set Liu Duanhe down on a chair, freed one hand to swipe open the call, and put it on speaker.
After handing him his shirt, Feng Xingyun picked up the underwear and started pulling it onto Liu Duanhe’s legs. A male voice came through the phone: “I’ve pulled the car up to the building. Hurry up and bring him down.”
Liu Duanhe had no chance to stop him and say he’d try dressing himself. He could only console himself, they were both men, no big deal.
When the underwear reached his hip bone, Liu Duanhe’s seated position made it impossible to pull it up further. Feng Xingyun didn’t fuss over it and simply grabbed the pants to help him put those on instead.
Blood was still flowing, staining the shirt as it ran down from his skull. When Feng Xingyun raised his hand, a drop of blood landed right on his arm.
For a split second, his expression made Liu Duanhe feel utterly terrified. Liu Duanhe even wanted to stand up and comfort Feng Xingyun, he felt fine right now, but Feng Xingyun picked him up again without a word.
And he was still barefoot, no socks, no shoes.
The dorm room that had made such a racket finally opened its door. The onlookers who had been peeking out to watch the commotion stared at the two of them in shock, and their faces turned even more alarmed when they saw the blood on him.
But being carried out like that, it definitely wasn’t an injury from a fight.
Liu Duanhe felt everyone’s eyes on them and wished he could bury himself in the ground. When had he ever been this humiliated, carried out by another man, disheveled and half-dressed?
Feng Xingyun hurried down the stairs and ran all the way out of the dormitory building. Under the sunlight, his exposed skin was so pale it seemed almost translucent, smooth like polished jade. Liu Duanhe’s fingers clung tightly to Feng Xingyun’s collar, and his pearly toenails curled up in shame.
That shame briefly overpowered his germaphobia while his mind was still hazy. Liu Duanhe buried his face into the crook of Feng Xingyun’s neck, not showing a single inch of his face.
Slipping in the shower and ending up in the hospital, too embarrassing. If word got out, he could already imagine people’s ridicule.
The sunlight made him dizzy and drowsy. By now, Liu Duanhe was on the verge of losing consciousness. He could vaguely hear sounds from the outside world but couldn’t respond.
The friend Feng Xingyun had called was named Zhao Yi, a teammate from his basketball team. Before Feng Xingyun even reached the car, Zhao Yi had already gotten out and opened the rear door.
His expression looked extremely anxious, filled with worry.
Feng Xingyun was briefly surprised, then assumed Zhao Yi felt the same way he did, moved by compassion at suddenly seeing someone they knew so badly injured.
Zhao Yi had driven an SUV, and the back seat was spacious. Feng Xingyun first set Liu Duanhe down in the back, then naturally slid in beside him, wrapping an arm around his shoulders to keep him from falling over during the drive.
After all, Liu Duanhe looked like he was about to lose consciousness. If Feng Xingyun didn’t watch over him carefully, an accident would be disastrous.
Zhao Yi’s hand froze for a moment as he went to close the car door. He had actually planned to sit in the back and look after Liu Duanhe while Feng Xingyun drove, because most people on the basketball team knew Zhao Yi had a crush on Liu Duanhe. And as for Feng Xingyun, his friends all knew he was one of the rare people who didn’t like Liu Duanhe; their relationship wasn’t good. Zhao Yi had even tried before to persuade Feng Xingyun to patch things up between them.
Seeing Zhao Yi standing outside the car in a daze, Feng Xingyun frowned. “Zhao Yi, what are you still standing out there for?”
Zhao Yi shoved all the jumbled thoughts out of his head, quickly shut the door, got into the driver’s seat, and shifted into gear.
There was even a small first-aid kit thoughtfully placed in the back seat. Feng Xingyun took out some gauze and wrapped it around the spots on Liu Duanhe that were bleeding.
His technique wasn’t great, messing up Liu Duanhe’s black hair that had been plastered down wet from the water. Fortunately, the man’s face was handsome enough that even so, he didn’t look ridiculous, in fact, there was an unexpectedly free-spirited, untamed beauty to him.
Only after the car was on its way to the hospital did Feng Xingyun snap out of the panic that had overwhelmed him. He looked down at Liu Duanhe, from a high angle, at extremely close range. He could almost catch a faint fragrance in his breath. Liu Duanhe’s long, thick lashes gave his eyes a natural eyeliner effect when open, and his already elegantly shaped phoenix eyes were rendered even more captivating by the contrast.
Feng Xingyun suddenly felt something was off, he was about to scribble down something else in a jumble.
Liu Duanhe’s consciousness had already half-sunk into the deep sea. In the driver’s seat up front, Zhao Yi, having endured a two-minute red light, had been observing the back seat for quite a while, taking in every expression on Feng Xingyun’s face. The radar in his mind was vibrating wildly. He weighed his words and spoke up: “Feng Xingyun, do you like Liu Duanhe?”
Feng Xingyun was caught off guard by the sudden question, momentarily stunned, and instinctively retorted, “How is that possible? Someone like him, who wears a mask all year round, is hypocritical to the extreme, and has a pathological obsession with cleanliness, how could I possibly like him? I can’t even imagine him becoming anyone’s boyfriend someday. That person would be utterly unlucky.”
To back up his words, he rattled off a list of Liu Duanhe’s flaws.
Zhao Yi twitched the corner of his mouth and frowned, saying, “Liu Duanhe is a good person. Don’t judge him through your prejudice.”
Feng Xingyun asked in surprise, “Don’t tell me you like Liu Duanhe too?”
Zhao Yi said frankly, “Yes, I do like him. I want to be his boyfriend.”
“So, Feng Xingyun, I hope you truly mean what you say.”
He uttered that final sentence flatly.
Feng Xingyun let out a scoff, feeling a bit uneasy inside, and shot back, “Mind your own business.”
Liu Duanhe struggled desperately to surface from the ocean of his consciousness, fragments of voices drifting in intermittently from the outside. He couldn’t tell who was speaking, every voice sounded identical, but he instinctively latched onto sentences containing his name.
“Feng Xingyun, do you like Liu Duanhe?”
“…good person… prejudice”
“Don’t tell me you like…?”
“Yes, I… boyfriend.”
